The aim of this study is to investigate the present use condition of 145 public open spaces which have not been executed in the Busan Metropolitan City Area. The unexcused public open spaces are analyzed by the zoning, size, shape type and the development planning. First, in terms of the distribution rate by zoning, it is found that the majority of unexecuted public open spaces are located in residential area, especially in the third general residential area. Second, the most shape types are linear forms and the next are indeterminate form and fixed types. Lastly, just a few of the unexecuted public open spaces have the development plan and those are mostly to create a small park or rest area.
Purpose: In this paper, we have considered a problem of newsvendor model in an environment of random yields in quality and customer balking behavior, in which only the mean and the variance of the demand are known. In practice, the distributional information of the demand is very limited and only the mean and variance are guessed by experience. In addition, due to the customers balking behavior occurring when the available inventory level decreases, the product's demand becomes a function of inventory level so that the classical newsvendor's optimal order quantity is no longer optimal. Methods: We have developed an optimal order quantity model that enables us to incorporate the random yield of a product and the customer balking information such as a threshold inventory level of balking and the corresponding probability of a sale during the balking. Results: We illustrated the concepts developed here through simple numerical examples and showed the robustness of our model in a various setting of parameters. Conclusion: This paper provides a useful analysis showing that our distribution-specific and distribution-free approach to the optimal order quantity in the newsboy model can act as an effective tools to match supply with demand for these product lines.
The current study investigated distributional properties of the Korean Accentual Phrase and their implication to word segmentation. The properties examined were the frequency of various AP tonal patterns, the types of tonal patterns that are imposed upon content words, and the average number and temporal location of content words within the AP. A total of 414 sentences from the Read speech corpus and the Radio corpus were used for the data analysis. The results showed that the 84% of the APs contained one content word, and that almost 90% of the content words are located in AP-initial position. When the AP-initial onset was not an aspirated or tense consonant, the most common AP patterns were LH, LHH, and LHLH (78%), and 88% of the multisyllabic content words start with a rising tone in AP-initial position. When the AP-initial onset was an aspirated or tense consonant, the most common AP patterns were HH, HHLH, and HHL (72%), and 74% of the multisyllabic content words start with a level H tone in AP-initial position. The data further showed that 84.1% of APs end with the final H tone. The findings provide valuable information about the prosodic pattern and structure of Korean APs, and account for the results of a previous study which showed that Korean listeners are sensitive to AP-initial rising and AP-final high tones (Kim, 2007). This is in line with other cross-linguistic research which has revealed the correlation between prosodic probability and speech processing strategy.
Purpose - The volume and valence of online word-of-mouth(eWOM) have become an important part of the retailer's market success for a wide range of products. This study aims to investigate how the growth of eWOM has generated the product's final financial outcomes in the introductory period influences. Research design, data, and methodology - This study uses weekly box office performance for 117 movies released in the South Korea from July 2015 to June 2016 using Korean Film Council(KOFIC) database. 292,371 posted online review messages were collected from NAVER movie review bulletin board. Using regression analysis, we test whether eWOM incurred during the opening week is valuable to explain the last of box office performance. Three major eWOM metrics were considered after controlling for the major distributional factors. Results - Results support that major eWOM variables play a significant role in box-office outcome prediction. Especially, the growth rate of the positive eWOM volume has a significant effect on the growth potential in sales. Conclusions - The findings highlight that the speed of eWOM growth has an informational value to understand the market reaction to a new product beyond valence and volume. Movie distributors need to take positive online eWOM growth into account to make optimal screen allocation decisions after release.
It is well known that the distributional properties of financial asset returns exhibit fatter-tails and skewer-mean than the assumption of normal distribution. The correct assumption of return distribution might improve the estimated performance of the Value-at-Risk(VaR) models in financial markets. In this paper, we estimate and compare the VaR performance using the RiskMetrics, GARCH and FIGARCH models based on the normal and skewed-Student-t distributions in two daily returns of the Korean Composite Stock Index(KOSPI) and Korean Won-US Dollar(KRW-USD) exchange rate. We also perform the expected shortfall to assess the size of expected loss in terms of the estimation of the empirical failure rate. From the results of empirical VaR analysis, it is found that the presence of long memory in the volatility of sample returns is not an important in estimating an accurate VaR performance. However, it is more important to consider a model with skewed-Student-t distribution innovation in determining better VaR. In short, the appropriate assumption of return distribution provides more accurate VaR models for the portfolio managers and investors.
Representative observations are useful to express explicitly the distributional variation of the data by a few selected observations corresponding to the quantiles in the univariate situation. Jones and Rice(1992) extended it to the multidimensional case by the principal component based method. This study introduces a modified version of Jones and Rice exploiting the self-consistency of principal components in expressing the chosen observation vectors. Compared to that of Jones and Rice, the suggested method tends to provide with less susceptible representative observations to the sampling variation of the data and the resulted vectors benefits from the self-consistency.
PURPOSES: The operational characteristics of roundabouts are generally influenced by location as well as traffic volume. The goal of this study is to develop urban and rural roundabout accident models and to discuss safety improvement guidelines based on the model. METHODS : To analyze accidents, count data models are utilized in this study. This study used accident data from 2010 to 2013 for 56 roundabouts collected from the Traffic Accident Analysis System (TASS) of Road Traffic Authority. Poisson and negative binomial regression models were developed for this study using NLOGIT 4.0. RESULTS : The main results are as follows. First, the hypotheses that there are distributional differences in the number of accidents and injuries/fatalities among rural and urban roundabouts were accepted. Second, Poisson and negative binomial regression accident models, which were all statistically significant, were developed. Seven independent variables, which were statistically significant, were adopted. Third, the common variable of models was evaluated to be traffic volume. CONCLUSIONS : This study developed two negative binomial roundabout accident models and suggested some accident reduction strategies. The results are expected to give some implications to the safety improvement of roundabout.
This study aims at exploring the degree of phonetic similarity between Korean and Japanese vowels in terms of acoustic features by performing the speech production test on Korean speakers and Japanese speakers. For this purpose, the speech of 16 Japanese speakers for Japanese speech data, and the speech of 16 Korean speakers for Korean speech data were utilized. The findings in assessing the degree of the similarity of the 7 nearest equivalents of the Korean and Japanese vowels are as follows: First, Korean /i/ and /e/ turned out to display no significant differences in terms of F1 and F2 with their counterparts, Japanese /i/ and /e/, and the distribution of F1 and F2 of Korean /i/ and /e/ in the distributional map completely overlapped with Japanese /i/ and /e/. Accordingly, Korean /i/ and /e/ were believed to be "identical." Second, Korean /a/, /o/, and /i/ displayed a significant difference in either F1 or F2, but showed a great similarity in distribution of F1 and F2 with Japanese /a/, /o/, and /m/ respectively. Korean /a/ /o/, and /i/, therefore, were categorized as very similar to Japanese vowels. Third, Korean /u/, which has the counterpart /m/ in Japanese, showed a significant difference in both F1 and F2, and only half of the distribution overlapped. Thus, Korean /u/ was analyzed as being a moderately similar vowel to Japanese vowels. Fourth, Korean /${\wedge}$/ did not have a close counterpart in Japanese, and was classified as "the least similar vowel."

RFID is a technique that plays an important role in identifying and tracking the movement of objects by inserting small chips in objects. It is somewhat similar to bar codes from the various points of applications, but is hopefully considered to lead to tremendous development by solving the present drawbacks of bar codes such as slow identification. Speed, low rate of identification, limitation on the distance of identification and on the amount of saving capacity. Through the development of RFID technique, revolutionary growth is anticipated in the area of logistics and commodity distributional systems. Futhermore, the self processing RFID makes the communications between man and objects possible, and through which introduction of ubiquitous atmosphere will be accelerated. Therefore RFID is considered as one of the most attracting area of investment by developed countries as well as Korea. In this paper, we analyze the world wide tendency on RFID, and propose the conditions for activating RFID industry and also suggest directions for national strategy for diffusing RFID.
Deciduous hardwood communities were ecologically analyzed in order to determine their distributional characteristics. The quadrats were sampled in Mt. Chiri, Mt. Deokyu, Mt. Kyeryong, Mt. Sokri, and Mt. Jungwang, and their environmental factors including topographical features as well as soil properties were investigated. The computer program TWINSPAN and CANOCO were used to elucidate the relationship between environmental factors and species composition. In the relations of communities and environmental factors, the optimal ecological habitats of Carpinus tschonoskii community could be the sites at low latitudes such as the regions of southern part of Korea in which total nitrogen and organic matters are rich, while those of Fraxinus mandshurica community, Acer mono community, and Betula costata community could be the sites which are wet and have high total nitrogen and organic matters in soil. The quercus mongolica community is distributed widely throughout Korea, and its ecological habitats could be the sites which have high soil nutrient and moderate soil moisture in central and northern parts of Korea, while those of Quercus variabilis community could be the sites which is dry and have high Mg and C.E.C. value.
