Toward the Personal Robot Software Framework (차세대 퍼스널 로봇 소프트웨어 프러임워크에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a software framework is proposed for the personal robot located on home network. The proposed software framework is divided into four layers-a transparency layer, a behavior layer, a distributed task layer, and a mission scenario layer. The transparency layer consists of a virtual machine for platform transparency, and a communication broker for communication transparency among behavior modules. The communication architecture includes both server/client communication and publisher/subscriber communication. A mission scenario is assumed to be a composition of sequentially planned distributed tasks. In addition to the software framework, a new concept, personal robot design center platform as proposed in this paper with its implementation mechanisms. The personal robot design center is defined as a developing and a managing environment for high-level behavior modules, distributed tasks, and mission scenarios.

  • Intelligent Space defines an environment where many intelligent devices, such as computers and sensors, are distributed. As a result of the cooperation between smart devices, intelligence emerges from the environment. In such scheme, a crucial task is to obtain the global location of every device in order to of for the useful services. Some tracking systems often prepare the models of the objects in advance. It is difficult to adopt this model-based solution as the tracking system when many kinds of objects exist. In this paper the location is achieved with no prior model, using color properties as information source. Feature vectors of multiple objects using color histogram and tracking method are described. The proposed method is applied to the intelligent environment and its performance is verified by the experiments.

  • With distribution industrial control system, the use of low cost to achieve a highly reliable and safe system in real time distributed embedded application is proposed. This developed intelligent node is based on two microcontrollers, one for the execution of the application code, also as master controller for ensuring the real time control & the logic operation with CPLD and other for communication task and the easy control execution, i.e., I/O digital input, digital output and interrupting. This paper also presents where the case NCS (Networked control system) with LonTalk protocol is applied for the filtration process control system of a small water treatment plant.

DMRUT-MCDS: Discovery Relationships in the Cyber-Physical Integrated Network

  • In recent years, we have seen a proliferation of mobile-network-enabled smart objects, such as smart-phones and smart-watches, that form a cyber-physical integrated network to connect the cyber and physical worlds through the capabilities of sensing, communicating, and computing. Discovery of the relationship between smart objects is a critical and nontrivial task in cyber-physical integrated network applications. Aiming to find the most stable relationship in the heterogeneous and dynamic cyber-physical network, we propose a distributed and efficient relationship-discovery algorithm, called dynamically maximizing remaining unchanged time with minimum connected dominant set (DMRUT-MCDS) for constructing a backbone with the smallest scale infrastructure. In our proposed algorithm, the impact of the duration of the relationship is considered in order to balance the size and sustain time of the infrastructure. The performance of our algorithm is studied through extensive simulations and the results show that DMRUT-MCDS performs well in different distribution networks.

  • Distributed object technologies have become popular in developing distributed systems. Although such middleware platforms as DSOM, DCOM, CORBA and Java RMI ease the development of distributed applications, they do not directly improve the reliability and the availability of these applications. Because the task of developing fault-tolerance techniques for distributed object paradigms is often complicated and error-prone, there is a great need for a development toolkit that enhances the reliability and the availability of distributed objects. In this paper, we propose a fault-tolerant distributed middleware system based on RMI, called IMMORTAL. We use a log-based rollback-recovery mechanism for supporting reliable distributed computing. Through a series of experiments, we observe that benchmark applications on the IMMORTAL tolerate hardware and software failures and evaluate its performance and scalability.

Scheduling for Guaranteeing QoS of Continuous Multimedia Traffic (연속적 멀티미디어 트래픽의 서비스 질 보장을 위한 스케쥴링)

  • Many of multimedia applications in distributed environments generate the packets which have the real-time characteristics for continuous audio/video data and transmit them according to the teal-time task scheduling theories. In this paper, we model the traffic for continuous media in the distributed multimedia applications based on the high-bandwidth networks and introduce the PDMA algorithm which is the hard real-time task scheduling theory for guaranteeing QoS requested by the clients. Furthermore, we propose the admission control to control the new request not to interfere the current services for maintaining the high quality of services of the applications. Since the proposed admission control is sufficient for the PDMA algorithm, the PDMA algorithm is always able to find the feasible schedule for the set of messages which satisfies it. Therefore, if the set of messages including the new request to generate the new traffic. Otherwise, it rejects the new request. In final, we present the simulation results for showing that the scheduling with the proposed admission control is of practical use.

  • Workflow is defined as the automation of a business process, and consists of interrelated workflow tasks. Because many modem business processes nay involve activities that are geographically distributed between different departments or organizations, workflow inherently has the characteristics of distribution. In distributed workflow systems, each workflow task performs its assigned role by utilizing information resources placed at some hosts, and then transmits workflow execution control to the next tasks in a workflow definition. Hence, it is very important to appropriately allocate workflow tasks to hosts for high performance workflow processing. In this paper, we propose a multilevel workflow graph partitioning scheme for efficient placement of workflow tasks. This method can improve the performance of workflow processing by minimizing the remote communication costs occurred during workflow execution.

Some Determinants of manager Style and household Work Organization on the Urban Homemakers in Korea (도시주부의 가사노동 조직화 및 관리자 유형 분석)

  • The main objective of this dissertation is to find out the measurement methods of household work organization and manger style and the quantitative analysis methods of influential factors on household work organization and manager style. Subjects were homemakers living in metropolitan , medium and small cities. Questionnaires were sent to subjects and usable responses were 1139 out of 1239 received questionnaires. Data collected through both preliminary and main survey were analyzed by using frequencies, percentage, analysis of variance, chi-square test and pearson's correlation analysis. Results are as follows; 1) The degree of household work organization was distributed on upper middle level exceeding middle score. Among subsystems of household work such as task assignment , test regularization, task arrangement and task standardization. subjects show the highest positive attitude in task standardization. 2) The characteristics of management in household work have task centered orientation. By the prority of task centered orientation, the order was integrated style. dedicated style. It means that the most ideal style is an integrated style which accounts for one-third of the total homemakers. 3) Household organization's subsystems and household work manager style are related with socio-demographic variables. Integrated style is significantly related with homemaker's employment and having helpers for household work. homemakers who are employed and have helpers for household work exhibit high scores in task assignment and task arrangement. Dedicated style is significantly related with homemaker's age and the number of children. Homemakers who are older and have many children exhibit high scores in task assignment. Related style is significantly related with marriage duration, education level and income level. Homemakers who have a long marriage duration exhibit high scores in task assignment and who have high education and income level exhibit high scores in task regularization. Seperates style is significantly related with homemaker's age m marriage duration an family life cycle. homemakers who ar older, have a long marriage duration and are of late stage in family life cycle exhibit seperated style and high scores in organization. To summarize research findings, household work manger and household work organization are related with family life experiences, and task assignment is an influential variable on manager style. in conclusion, it is evident that household work organization emphasizes efficiency as cognitive component and such organization. Finally it is necessary to broaden this research considered social psychological variables. And also it needs to build household manger style models appropriate fro the characteristics of each style.

  • This paper presents a resource management mechanism for the mesh networking in IEEE 802.15.3 High-rate WPAN. IEEE 802.15 TGS is standardizing the MAC and PHY for mese networking. This task group researches the mechanism that are extension of network coverage without increasing transmit power of receive sensitivity, and studies the enhanced reliability via route redundancy. In this paper we propose the distributed resource management scheme that is fairly using the channel resource in the piconet without centralized piconet coordinator. Each DEV reserves the channel time and broadcasts its information. This scheme has unfairness for later associated DEV because of preoccupation of earlier associated DEVs. This paper presents the method that fairly allocates the channel time in MAC layer. And we evaluate the performance enhancement using simple simulations.

  • Network human-robot interface is an important research topic. In home application, users access the robotic system directly via voice, gestures or through the network. Users explore a system by using the services provided by this system and to some extend users are enable to participate in a service as partners. A service may be provided by a robot, a group of robots or robots and other network connected systems (distributed sensors, information systems, etc). All these services are done in the network environment, where uncertainty such as the unstable network connection, the availability of the partners in a service, exists. Moreover, these services are controlled by several users, accessing at different time by different methods. Our research aimed at solving this problem to provide a high available level, flexible coordination system. In this paper, a multi-agent framework is proposed. This framework is validated by using our new concept of slave agents, a responsive multi-agent environment, a virtual directory facilitator (VDF), and a task allocation system using contract net protocol. Our system uses a mixed model between distributed and centralized model. It uses a centralized agent management system (AMS) to control the overall system. However, the partners and users may be distributed agents connected to the center through agent communication or centralized at the AMS container using the slave agents to represent the physical agents. The system is able to determine the task allocation for a group of robot working as a team to provide a service. A number of experiments have been conducted successfully in our lab environment using Issac robot, a PDA for user agent and a wireless network system, operated under our multi agent framework control. The experiments show that this framework works well and provides some advantages to existing systems.
