This paper targets the development of micro-converter such as a power converter for photovoltaic module. In corresponding to the poor performance of centralized PV system under partial shading, the power converter for single PV module to maximize the energy harvest from PV module. The power converter is constantly tracking the maximum power point of photovoltaic system and increases energy output power. To minimize the quantity of devices and switchs, 320W solar micro-converter is developed using synchronous rectifier. From the basis of these results, through simulations and experiments were verified efficiency.
Global warming and air pollution have increased the amount $CO_2$ in the atmosphere. In order to decrease the amount of $CO_2$, lots of researches are conducted toward using Hydrogen energy. Because of its high efficiency energy level and environmental friendly features, many companies have researched on developing hydrogen engine system and distributed generation system. Especially, the focus of this research provides the operation method of linear generator for hydrogen fuel combustion linear engine. During an ignition, linear generator is operated by motor to create the initial condition of engine combustion. Once the engine combustion is stabilized, the generator supplies electric power to grid. In order to stabilize the engine, linear generator is required to control mover frequency, direction, and force; Hence the PCS(Power Conversion System) place three H-bridge type inverter stacks in parallel to control phase current independently. As well, by using Back-to-Back method, it can receive electric power from both end.

As a subset of the Internet of Things, the Internet of Energy (IoE) is expected to tackle the problems faced by the current smart grid framework. Notably, the conventional day-ahead power scheduling of the smart grid should be redesigned in the IoE architecture to take into consideration the intermittence of scattered renewable generations, large amounts of power consumption data, and the uncertainty of the arrival time of electric vehicles (EVs). Accordingly, a day-ahead power scheduling system for the future IoE is proposed in this research to maximize the usage of distributed renewables and reduce carbon emission caused by the traditional power generation. Meanwhile, flexible charging mechanism of EVs is employed to provide preferred charging options for moving EVs and flatten the load profile simultaneously. The simulation results revealed that the proposed power scheduling mechanism not only achieves emission reduction and balances power load and supply effectively, but also fits each individual EV user's preference.
The cost incurred by voltage sag effect in power networks has always been of important concern for discussions. Due to the environmental constraints, fossil fuel shortage crisis and low efficiency of conventional power plants, decentralized generation and renewable based DG have become trends in recent decades; because DGs can reduce the voltage sag effect in distribution networks noticeably; therefore, optimum allocation of DGs in order to maximize their effectiveness is highly important in order to maximize their effectiveness. In this paper, a new method is proposed for calculating the cost incurred by voltage sag effect in power networks. Thus, a new objective function is provided that comprehends technical standards as minimization of the cost incurred by voltage sag effect, active power losses and economic criterion as the installation and maintenance costs of DGs. Considering operational constraints of the system, the optimum allocation of DGs is a constrained optimization problem in which Lightning Attachment procedure optimization (LAPO) is used to resolve it and is the optimum number, size and location of DGs are determined in IEEE 33 bus test system and IEEE 34 bus test system. The results show that optimum allocation of DGs not only reduces the cost incurred by voltage sag effect, but also improves the other characteristics of the system.
The Energy Management System (EMS) communicates with power plants and substations, monitors the substations and plant operational status of the transmission and substation system for stability, continuity, real-time, and economy of power supply, and controls power plants and substations. Currently, the power exchange EMS communicates with power plants and substations based on the serial communication-based Distributed Network Protocol (DNP) 3.0 protocol. However, problems such as the difficulty of supply and demand of serial communication equipment and the lack of installation space for serial ports and modems are raised due to the continuous increase in new facilities to perform communication, including renewable power generation facilities. Therefore, this paper presents a TCP/IP-based communication method instead of the existing serial communication method of the power exchange EMS, and presents a security risk analysis that may occur due to changes in the communication method and a countermeasure to the security risk.

In the face of global warming and resource depletion, a smart grid has been suggested as one way of contributing to abating the environment problems and increasing energy efficiency. Smart grids utilize renewable energy which has intermittent and irregular output power depending on weather conditions. In order to maintain stability and reliability of the power system, smart grids need to have complementary measures for the possible unstable system conditions. Cogenerating systems such as Combined Heat and Power(CHP) can be one good solution as it has capability of instantly increasing or decreasing output power. Therefore, this paper investigates the connectivity between Combined Heat and Power systems and smart grid technologies. The smart grid national roadmap formulated by South Korea Ministry of Knowledge and Economy and 'IEC Smart Grid Standardization Roadmap' are analyzed to extract related components of the smart grid for the CHP connection. Also, case studies on demonstration projects for smart grids with CHP systems completed or currently being implementing in the world are presented.
To serve basic data for the design of capacity and management of Distributed(or On-site) Power Generation System using renewable energies, this study measured the electric power consumption(hereafter abbreviated as EPC) of 5 families of fishing village located at island in southeastern area of Korea. The results are as following. The maximum monthly average EPC occurred in December or January. Although the total monthly EPC of H family is 2~3 times more than J family, individual monthly EPC of J family is 10~30 % more than H family. Hourly EPC pattern shows that the maximum EPC occurred between 20~24 o'clock in summer season, but it occurred between 18~24 o'clock in winter season. Compared to summer, the height of fluctuation through a day is small. And the EPC patterns of weekdays and weekend estimated as very similar.
With Korean Government's Renewable energy 3020 plan and 8th Basic plan for long-term power supply, renewable energy industries in Korea are active and catching attention from many relevant industry's relations. Especially with Interconnection guarantee policy established in Oct, 2016, DERs interconnection delay due to lack of allowable distribution hosting capacity is happening and reduction of reinforcement cost for distribution system where 70 % of DERs in South Korea are installed became one of important issues of KEPCO. Therefore, KEPCO needed to extract reasonable solutions to increase feasible hosting capacity of distribution feeders in order to reduce reinforcement cost under the condition of no matter in distribution system operation. This paper proposes feasible hosting capacity of distribution feeders that can be adopted and the status of DER installation in distribution system, PV output data, minimum load in distribution feeders as well as capacity of distribution lines have been investigated and analyzed in proof of the proposal.

It is well known that distributed generation(DG) system using renewable energy is an alternative to solve the problems which result from the exhaustion of fossil fuel and the environmental pollution. A PWM inverter is required for a power flow control in the DG systems. This paper proposes a SRF power flow control method considering grid impedance in grid-connected single-phase inverter systems. The proposed SRF power flow control method can provide a voltage-reference for the single-phase inverter even without any grid impedance estimation so that the single-phase inverter system could operate in stand-alone mode and grid-connected mode based on the known nominal value of grid impedance. Also independent controls of active and reactive power are achieved by the proposed control method. The effectiveness and the validity of the proposed control method are demonstrated through simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed control method can control properly power flow in grid-connected single-phase inverter systems.
