  • Information superhighway and improvement of computing power result in increase of the requirements for distributed multimedia applications. But, developer of applications needs much time and efforts because of the difficulties of development, enhancement and maintenance of distributed applications. To solve this problem, CORBA is used widely. But, the definitions of CORBA services are required for the brief developments of distributed multimedia applications. Especially, collaboration service is required because multiple users use distributed multimedia service. Collaboration service manages user and group information of applications and makes the interoperability between of multi users. In this paper, we designed collaboration service for CORBA based distributed multimedia applications. Collaboration service is able to maintain group information and to present the ability for collaborative works between of multi users. Application developers can develop the applications easily because the ability of collaborative works is offered by collaboration service.

  • It needs to control each objects on various platform and transmit multimedia data to multiple receivers which are for developing a multimedia service with multimedia live streaming in a distributed environment. In this paper, we present a DLS (Distributed Live Streaming) package which support l:N multimedia live streaming in a distributed environment. Also, it has extended RMI which is a distributed object technology and JMF using multimedia transmission/processing. A java-based DLS package has been designed to separate a transmission and a control for more efficient distributed processing. It is possible to apply in development of multimedia service supported 1:N transmission and runned independently to any platform.

In terms of distributed multimedia systems, the most important catagories for quality of service are a timeless, volume, and reliability In this paper, we discuss a method for increasing reliability through fault tolerance. We describe the design and implementation of the ECA running on distributed multimedia environment. ECA is a system is able to classify automatically a software error based on distributed multimedia. This papaer explains a performance analysis of an error classification system running on distributed multimedia environment using the rule-based DEVS modeling and simulation techniques. In DEVS, a system has a time base, inputs, states, outputs, and functions.

  • Multimedia services in the cloud have become a popular trend in the big data environment. However, how to efficiently schedule a large number of multimedia services in the cloud is still an open and challengeable problem. Current cloud-based scheduling algorithms exist the following problems: 1) the content of the multimedia is ignored, and 2) the cloud platform is a known parameter, which makes current solutions are difficult to utilize practically. To resolve the above issues completely, in this work, we propose a novel distributed multimedia scheduling to satisfy the objectives: 1) Develop a general cloud-based multimedia scheduling model which is able to apply to different multimedia applications and service platforms; 2) Design a distributed scheduling algorithm in which each user makes a decision based on its local information without knowing the others' information; 3) The computational complexity of the proposed scheduling algorithm is low and it is asymptotically optimal in any case. Numerous simulations have demonstrated that the proposed scheduling can work well in all the cloud service environments.

  • This paper describes a digital convergence platform(DCP) which is implemented based on the MPEG-21 multimedia framework. DCP is a newly proposed solution in this research for the convergence service of future home multimedia environment. DCP is a common platform designed to have the feature of reconfigurability, by means of S/W. which supports to run diverse digital multimedia services. A distributed peer to peer service and transaction model is also a new feature realized in DCP using the MPEG-21 multimedia framework. A prototype DCP is implemented to verify its functions of multimedia service and transactions. The developed DCPs are networked with IP clustering storage systems for the distributed service of multimedia. Successful streaming services of the MPEG-2/4 video and audio are verified with the implemented test-bed system of DCP.

  • The basic requirement of a distributed multimedia system are intramedia synchronization which asks the strict delay and jitter for the check period of media buffer and the scaling duration with periodic continuous media such as audio and video media, and intermedia synchronization that needs the constraint for relative time relations among them when several media are presented in parallel. In this paper, a distributed multimedia synchronization algorithm based on the fuzzy logic is presented and the performance is evaluated through simulation. Intramedia synchronisation algorithm uses the media scaling techniques and intermedia synchronization algorithm uses variable service rates on the basis of fuzzy logic to solve the multimedia synchronization problem.

  • In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of the FDRA(Fault Detection Recovery based on Agent) running on distributed multimedia environment. DOORAE is a good example for distributed multimedia and multimedia distance education system among students and teachers during lecture. It has primitive service agents. Service functions are implemented with objected oriented concept. FDRA is a multi-agent system. It has been environment, intelligent agents interact with each other, either collaboratively or non-collaboratively, to achieve their goals. The main idea is to detect an error by using polling method. This system detects an error by polling periodically the process with relation to session. And, it is to classify the type of error s automatically by using learning rules. The merit of this system is to use the same method to recovery it as it creates a session. FDRA is a system that is able to detect an error, to classify an error type, and to recover automatically a software error based on distributed multimedia environment.

  • In recent years, several methods in distributed environment have been proposed in which a user-centered multimedia service may be efficiently provided. However, problems such as the improvement of QoS, streaming and the dynamic service of data for distributed service of multimedia data are introduced. In this paper we propose $POX -H_{r}$ structure for user-centered multimedia service in distributed network environment. The proposed $POX -H_{r}$ structure are constructed by disjunct, conjunct, semantic and filtering mapping scheme, and its structure are updated by $M_{filtering}$ scheme. The comparison results shows that the proposed method provides the better than the other methods.

  • N-screen is an emerging technology to support multimedia multicasting, content sharing and content mobility. N-screen service providers should obtain the technology that provides the highest quality content seamlessly. Distributed nature of WiMedia distributed-MAC protocol can provide full mobility support, and achieves seamless medium access method in contrast to IEEE 802.15.3. So, in this paper, WiMedia distributed-MAC protocol is adopted and an asynchronous multicast transmission (AMT) technology is proposed to enhance performance of seamless N-screen wireless service based on distributed-MAC. The ACK frame transmissions are not required for multicast transmissions. By using this property in AMT, if a device is a multicast receiver, its reserved time slots can be reserved by the other devices with 1-hop distance. Furthermore, each N-screen device broadcasts and shares the information including an order in asynchronous traffic reservations to reduce conflicts in determining the transmission order of asynchronous N-screen packets. Therefore, AMT scheme expands the number of time slots available and throughputs for multicast and asynchronous traffic reservations when comparing with the distributed-MAC standard system. N-screen communications based on distributed-MAC with the proposed AMT shows a new framework for realizing N-screen wireless service with the full content mobility.
