  • This paper proposes the center distributed embroidery machine structure with 1,500 RPM, 52 heads for productivity and large sized embroidery goods. The synchronous velocity controller is adopted for control of the 2-axis distributed embroidery machine and the DOB(Disturbance Observer) is also adopted for minimizing disturbances caused by needle cams. For driving experiments of 2-axis center distributed driving structure, two conventional 26 heads 1,500RPM embroidery machines are used. It was shown that the center distributed driving structure with 2-axis synchronous control can be one way for implementing a large embroidery machine.

  • The Internet's low cost and ubiquity present an attractive option for real-time distributed control of processes on the factory floor. When integrated with the Internet, the LonWorks open control network can give ubiquitous accessibility with the distributed control nature of information on the factory floor. One of the most important points in real-time distributed control of processes is timely response. There are many processes on the factory floor that require timely response. However, the uncertain time delay inherent in the network makes it difficult to guarantee timely response in many cases. Especially, the transmission characteristics of the LonWorks/IP network show a highly stochastic nature. Therefore, the time delay problem has to be resolved to achieve high performance and quality of the real-time distributed control of the process in the LonWorks/IP Virtual Device Network (VDN). It should be properly predicted and compensated. In this paper, a new distributed control scheme that can compensate for the effects of the time delay in the network is proposed. It is based on the PID controller augmented with the Smith predictor and disturbance observer. Designing methods for output feedback filter and disturbance observer are also proposed. Tracking position control experiment of a geared DC Servo motor is performed using the proposed control method. The performance of the proposed controller is compared with that of the Internal Model Controller (IMC) with the Smith predictor. The result shows that the performance is improved and guaranteed by augmenting a PID controller with both the Smith predictor and disturbance observer under the stochastic time delay in the LonWorks/IP VDN.

  • Fault Ride Through(FRT) requirement prevents disconnections of distributed generations during the specific time on disturbance condition for system stability. However, since there is a limitation to the FRT capability of distributed generation, and the protection system needs to clear the fault quickly before the distributed generation is disconnected. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel optimal setting method of directional overcurrent relay considering FRT of distributed generation. The proposed method reduces the probability of disconnections of the distributed generation in disturbance without additional equipment considering the FRT capability of the distributed generation by calculating the optimal relay setting through the Genetic Algorithm(GA).

  • A reduced-order linear feedback controller, which is used to control the linear disturbance in two-dimensional plane Poiseuille flow, is applied to a boundary layer flow for stability control. Using model reduction and linear-quadratic-Gaussian/loop-transfer-recovery control synthesis, a distributed controller is designed from the linearized two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. This reduced-order controller, requiring only the wall-shear information, is shown to effectively suppress the linear disturbance in boundary layer flow under the uncertainty of Reynolds number. The controller also suppresses the nonlinear disturbance in the boundary layer flow, which would lead to unstable flow regime without control. The flow is relaminarized in the long run. Other effects of the controller on the flow are also discussed.

  • LonWorks over IP(LonWorks-IP) virtual device network(VDN) is an integrated form of LonWorks device network and IP data network. In especially real-time distributed servo applications on the factory floor, timely response is essential for predictive and preventive maintenance. The time delay in servo control on LonWorks-IP based VDN has highly stochastic nature. LonWorks-IP based VDN induced transmission delay deteriorates the performance and stability of the real-time distributed control system and can't give an effective preventive and predictive maintenance. In order to guarantee the stability and performance of the system, and give an effective preventive and predictive maintenance, LonWorks-IP based VDN induced time-varying uncertain time delay needs to be predicted and compensated. In this paper new Pill control scheme based on Smith predictor, disturbance observer and band pass filter is proposed and tested through computer simulation about position control of DC servo motor. It is shown that how can the proposed control scheme be designed to minimize the effects of uncertain varying time delay and model uncertainties. The validity of the proposed control scheme is compared and demonstrated with the comparison of internal model controllers(IMC) based on Smith predictor with and without disturbance observer.

  • A power quality improvement scheme for grid connected inverters, even in the presence of the disturbances in grid voltages due to harmonic distortions and three-phase imbalance, is presented for distributed generation (DG) power systems. The control objective is to force the inverter currents to follow their references with robustness even under external disturbances in grid voltages. The proposed scheme is realized by a disturbance observer (DOB) based current control scheme. Since the uncertainty in a system can be effectively canceled out using an estimated disturbance by the DOB, the resultant system behaves like a closed-loop system consisting of a disturbance-free nominal model. For experimental verification, a 2 kVA laboratory prototype of a grid connected inverter has been built using a digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320F28335. Through comparative simulations and experimental results under grid disturbances such as harmonic distortion and imbalance, the effectiveness of the proposed DOB based current control scheme is demonstrated.

  • The time delay in servo control on LonWorks/IP Virtual Device Network (VDN) is highly stochastic in nature. LonWorks/IP VDN induced time delay deteriorates the performance and stability of the real-time distributed control system and hinders an effective preventive and predictive maintenance. Especially in real-time distributed servo applications on the factory floor, timely response is essential for predictive and preventive maintenance. In order to guarantee the stability and performance of the system for effective preventive and predictive maintenance, LonWorks/IP VDN induced time delay needs to be predicted and compensated for. In this paper position control simulation of DC servo motor using Zero Phase Error Tracking Controller (ZPETC) as a feedforward controller, and Internal Model Controllers (IMC) based on Smith predictor with disturbance observer as a feedback controller is performed. The validity of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated by comparing the IMC based on Smith predictor with disturbance observer.

  • LonWorks over IP (LonWorks/IP) virtual device network (VDN) is an integrated form of LonWorks device network and IP data network. LonWorks/IP VDN can offer ubiquitous access to the information on the factory floor and make it possible for the predictive and preventive maintenance on the factory floor. Timely response is inevitable for predictive and preventive maintenance on the factory floor under the real-time distributed control. The network induced uncertain time delay deteriorates the performance and stability of the real-time distributed control system on LonWorks/IP virtual device network. Therefore, in order to guarantee the stability and to improve the performance of the networked distributed control system the time-varying uncertain time delay needs to be compensated for. In this paper, under the real-time distributed control on LonWorks/IP VDN with uncertain time delay, a control scheme based on disturbance observer and ZPETC(Zero Phase Error Tracking Controller) phase lag compensator is proposed and tested through computer simulation. The result of the proposed control is compared with that of internal model controller (IMC) based on Smith predictor and disturbance observer. It is shown that the proposed control scheme is disturbance and noise tolerant and can significantly improve the stability and the tracking performance of the periodic reference. Therefore, the proposed control scheme is well suited for the distributed servo control for predictive maintenance on LonWorks/IP-based virtual device network with time-varying delay.

  • Death patterns of gap-makers and changes of environmental factors in gaps formed by disturbance were studied in Pinus densiflora forests of Youngwol, Mt, Mansu, Mt. Songni, Uljin, and Mt, Obong in Korea. Death pattern of gap-makers showed that standing deat type was the most frequent in all the study areas. Longevity of Pinus densiflora was about 140 years, which was about half of that of the temperate deciduous broad-leaved trees. size of gaps were distributed from $20m^2$ to $235m^2$, more than 80% of those were gaps created by death of two or more trees. Relative light intensity and water content of soil in gap area were higher than those in non-gap area and those in the central part of gap were the highest.
