  • Since the most program execution time is consumed in a loop structure, extracting parallelism from loop programs is critical for the taster program execution. In this paper, we proposed data dependency removal method for a single loop. The data dependency removal method can be applied to uniform and non-uniform data dependency distance in the single loop. Procedure calls parallelisms with only a single loop structure or procedure call most of other methods are concerned with the uniform code within the uniform data dependency distance. We also propose an algorithm, which can be applied to uniform, non-uniform, and complex data dependency distance among the multiple procedures. We compared our method with conventional methods using CRAY-T3E for the performance evaluation. The results show that the proposed algorithm is effective.

  • In most application programs, loops usually comprise most of the computation in a program and the most important source of parallelism. When the data dependency relation is uniformin terms of distance, several compile time parallelization methods were introduced. On the otherhand, when the data dependency relation is non-uniform in distance, the compile time extraction ofparallelism is much complicated. In this paper, a general method the extracting parallelism in nestedloops is presented. This algorithm can be applicable where the dependency relation is both uniform andnon-uniform in distance. According to execution repeatedly the statements in nested loops, thealgorithm which effectively removes these kind of data dependencies is developed in order to presentthe total parallelization of nested loops.

  • To investigate the flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC) dependency of carbon steel (A106 Gr. B) and low-alloy steels (1Cr-1/2Mo, 21/4Cr-1Mo) on pH, orifice distance, and material, experiments were carried out. These experiments were performed using a flow velocity of 4 m/sec (partly 9 m/sec) at pH $8.0\~10.0$ in an oxygen-free aqueous solution re-circulated in an Erosion-Corrosion Test Loop at $130^{\circ}\;{\ldots}$ for 500 hours. The weight loss of the carbon steel specimens appeared to be positively dependent on the flow velocity. That of the carbon and low-alloy steel specimens also showed to be distinguishably dependent on the pH. At pH levels of $8.0\~9.5$ it decreased, but increased from 9.5 to 10.0. Utility water chemistry personnel should carefully consider this kind of pH dependency to control the water system pH to mitigate FAC of the piping system material. The weight loss of the specimens located further from the orifice in the distance range of $6.8\~27.2$ mm was shown to be greater, except for 21/4Cr-1Mo, which showed no orifice distance dependency. Low alloy steel specimens exhibited a factor of two times better resistance to FAC than that of the carbon steel. Based on this kind of FAC dependency of the carbon and low-alloy steels on the orifice distance and material, we conclude that it is necessary to alternate the composition of the secondary piping system material of NPPs, using low-alloy steels, such as 21/4Cr-1Mo, particularly when the system piping has to be replaced.

  • In this paper, we propose a new language model, namely, a dependency structure language model, for information retrieval to compensate for the weaknesses of unigram and bigram language models. The dependency structure language model is based on the first-order dependency model and the dependency parse tree generated by a linguistic parser. So, long-distance dependencies can be naturally captured by the dependency structure language model. We carried out extensive experiments to verify the proposed model, where the dependency structure model gives a better performance than recently proposed language models and the Okapi BM25 method, and the dependency structure is more effective than unigram and bigram in language modeling for information retrieval.

  • Since the most program execution time is consumed in a loop structure, extracting parallelism from sequential loop programs is critical for the faster program execution. Conventional studies for extracting the parallelism are focused mostly on a uniform data dependence distance. In this paper, we proposed data dependency elimination method for a nested loop and extended data dependency elimination method to extract parallelism from the loop with procedure calls. The data dependency elimination method and the extended data dependency elimination method can be applied to uniform and non-uniform data dependency distance. We compared our method with conventional methods using CRAY-T3E for the performance evaluation. The results show that the proposed algorithms are very effective.

  • This paper presents a statistical model for Korean dependency-based parsing. Although Korean is one of free word order languages, it has the feature of which some word order is preferred to local contexts. Earlier works proposed parsing models using modification lengths due to this property. Our model uses headible path contexts for modification length probabilities. Using a headible path of a dependent it is effective for long distance relation because the large surface context for a dependent are abbreviated as its headible path. By combined with lexical bigram dependency, our probabilistic model achieves 86.9% accuracy in eojoel analysis for KAIST corpus, more improvement especially for long distance dependencies.

  • The source parameters of 85 events ($1.6\;{\leq}\;M_L\;{\leq}\;4.9$) that occurred in and around the Korean Peninsula during 2006 and 2007 were analyzed by an iterative spectral fitting procedure. The data set consists of 487 S-wave trains on three-component seismograms recorded at broadband seismograph stations in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. Moment magnitudes for each event were determined using spectral analyses of the seismograms, and the results were compared with the variation in corner frequencies with hypocentral distance. Corner frequencies have a tendency to decrease with increases in hypocentral distance, and the decrease is smaller the larger the moment magnitude. We define the measured corner frequency on a displacement spectrum as the apparent corner frequency. Although it was reported that the distance dependency of the corner frequency was found in some regions, such as the eastern Canadian Shield and the Baltic Shield, the origin of the phenomenon is not certain yet.

  • This letter addresses a structural disambiguation method for Korean adverbs based on the correlative relation constraints between adverbs and modifiees, and the morphological context information of sentences. Using the proposed method, we improved the dependency parsing accuracy of adverbs from 79.2 to 89%. The experimental result shows that the proposed method is especially expert in parsing adverbs which can modify multiple word classes or have a long distance dependency relation to their modifiees.

  • Response spectra of earthquake ground motions are important in the earthquake-resistant design and reliability analysis of structures. The formulation of the response spectrum in the frequency domain efficiently computes and evaluates the stochastic response spectrum. The frequency information of the excitation can be described using different functional forms. The shapes of the calculated response spectra of the excitation show strong magnitude and site dependency, but weak distance dependency. In this paper, to compare the effect of the earthquake ground motion variables, the contribution of these sources of variability to the response spectrum's uncertainty is calculated by using a stochastic analysis. The analytical results show that earthquake source factors and soil condition variables are the main sources of uncertainty in the response spectra, while path variables, such as distance, anelastic attenuation and upper crust attenuation, have relatively little effect. The presented formulation of dynamic structural response in frequency domain based only on the frequency information of the excitation can provide an important basis for the structural analysis in some location that lacks strong motion records.
