집중 강우시 남한강 내 용존 유기물의 성상 변화 (Changes in Dissolved Organic Matter Composition in the Namhan River during a Heavy Rain Event)

  • In this study, changes in the composition of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) were investigated using water samples collected at a downstream site of the Namhan River near the Lake Paldang ($N37^{\circ}24^{\prime}05.33^{{\prime}{\prime}}E127^{\circ}32^{\prime}25.01^{{\prime}{\prime}}$) during a heavy rain event from July 23 to July 28, 2008. The DOC concentrations varied from 1.68 to 3.18 mg/L with the maxium value at a peak of the river water level. Each DOC sample was fractionated into three compositions including hydrophilic (Hi), hydrophobic acid (HoA) and hydrophobic neutral (HoN) fractions. The results showed that HoA was most abundant fractions, constituting 47.2~56.5% of DOC. Refractory dissolved organic carbon (R-DOC) contents were also determined by measuring the DOC concentration after 28-day dark incubation of the samples. R-DOC content was in the range from 83 to 99% of DOC and it was significantly correlated with HoA contents (r = 0.91, p<0.005), while it did not exhibit such a good correlation with the fractions of Hi and HoN (p>0.02). Our results suggest that the HoA, which is associated with humic substances, may be a major composition of refractory organic matters in rivers during storm events.

  • 연안수질의 시공간적 분포특성을 살펴보기 위하여 1997년부터 2004년 사이에 우리나라 연안해역에서 측정된 수질자료(chlorophyll-a, pH, DO, COD, SS, dissolved inorganic nitrogen, dissolved inorganic phosphorous, salinity, temperature)에 대해 GIS 공간분석 기법을 적용하였다. 본 연구에서 사용된 수질자료는 공간상 모든 위치에 그 값이 존재하나, 실제 간의 수집은 고정관측 위치에서만 수행된다. 따라서 공간적으로 연속적으로 존재하는 연안수질의 분포 특성을 파악하기 위해서는 미관측 지점의 값을 예측할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 공간분석 기법인 IDW를 연안수질 측정자료에 적용하였으며, IDW 기법의 적용 가능성을 평가하였다. 또한 IDW 공간보간을 적용한 후, 전국 연안을 46개 구간으로 구분하여 각 구간의 수질특성을 GIS 시각화 기법을 이용하여 분석하였다. 적용결과 공간보간 및 GIS 기법이 다년간 광범위한 범위에서 수집된 수질 자료로부터 시공간적 분포 특성을 파악하는데 유용함을 확인할 수 있었다.

하수처리수 재이용을 위하여 Sym-bio공정과 용존 오존 부상공정을 이용한 하수처리의 효율 분석 (A Treatment Efficiency of Wastewater by using Sym-Bio Process and Dissolved Ozone flotation Process for Water Reuse)

  • Water reuse of effluent is limited, due to bacteria and chromaticity or turbidity which may result in low perception of water quality. Consequently, this study showed a method in the reuse of treated wastewater by a diversified treatment method, with separation of centralized reformation of aeration tank into pre-treatment with minimum installation of facilities, and post-treatment, applying advanced oxidation treatment. A pilot plant experiment was performed using Sym-Bio process adopting an NADH Sensor without modification of the exiting aeration tank. The Dissolved Ozone Flotation process, which is an advanced oxidation process, to treat the remaining organics, nutrients, chromaticity, turbidity and bacteria. As a result in the Sym-Bio process, the biological treatment, even on the condition of single stage reaction tank, the treatment efficiencies of BOD, $COD_{Mn}$, $COD_{Cr}$, SS and T-N were 96.6%, 84.6%, 88.25%, 95.1% and 71.0%, respectively, while that for T-P was 25.0%, which required further treatment. In the Dissolved Ozone Flotation process, the advanced oxidation treatment, the treatment efficiencies of BOD, $COD_{Mn}$, $COD_{Cr}$, SS, T-N, T-P, chromaticity, turbidity, bacteria, coliforms were 78.9%, 34.6%, 28.7%, 48.0%, 70.4%, 82.4%, 84.0%, 74.5%, 99.8% and 99.4%, respectively.

북한산국립공원(北漢山國立公園) 북동사면(北東斜面) 일대(一帶) 계류수질(溪流水質) 특성(特性)(II) -이화학적(理化學的) 특성(特性)을 중심(中心)으로- (Characteristics on Stream Water Quality in the Northeastern Part of Puk'ansan National Park(II) - With a Special Reference to the Physicochemical Characteristics-)

  • 북한산국립공원(北漢山國立公園) 북동사면(北東斜面) 일대(一帶) 계류수(溪流水)의 이화학적(理化學的) 수질특성(水質特性)을 파악함으로써 국립공원내(國立公園內) 계류수질(溪流水質) 보전(保全)을 위한 과학적 기초 자료를 제공하기 위하여 1998년 7월부터 1999년 11월까지 매월 4개 지점의 계류수질을 분석한 결과, 이 지역 계류수의 평균pH는 6.65, 평균용존산소량은 $10.7mg/{\ell}$로 하천수질환경기준에 의한 상수원수 1급수의 범위 내였다. 또한, 이 지역 계류수(溪流水)는 연수(軟水)이었으며, 평균용존산소포화도(平均溶存酸素飽和度)는 96.7%로 포화상태이었다. 북한산 국립공원을 이용하는 탐방객수(探訪客數)의 증가(增加)는 계류수의 용존이온량을 증가시켜 계류수의 전기전도도(電氣傳導度)를 상승시키고 계류수질오염(溪流水質汚染)에 영향(影響)을 미치는 것으로 분석(分析)되었으며, 직선회귀분석결과(直線回歸分析結果) 1% 수준에서 유의(有意)하였다. 북한산 북동사면 일대 계류수에서 전기전도도(電氣傳導度)와 용존음이온량($Cl^-$, $NO{_3}^-$, $SO{_4}^{2-}$)은 상류(上流)보다는 하류(下流)에셔 증가(增加)하였다.

수중 유전체 장벽 방전 플라즈마를 이용한 페놀의 분해 특성 (Characteristics of phenol degradation by using underwater dielectric barrier discharge plasma)

  • This objective of this study was to investigate the degradation characteristics of phenol, a refractory substance, by using a submerged dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma reactor. To indirectly determine the concentration of active species produced in the DBD plasma, the dissolved ozone was measured. To investigate the phenol degradation characteristics, the phenol and chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentrations were evaluated based on pH and the discharge power. The dissolved ozone was measured based on the air flow rate and power discharged. The highest dissolved ozone concentration was recorded when the injected air flow rate was 5 L/min. At a discharge power of 40W as compared to 70W, the dissolved ozone was approximately 2.7 - 6.5 times higher. In regards to phenol degradation, the final degradation rate was highest at about 74.06%, when the initial pH was 10. At a discharged power of 40W, the rate of phenol decomposition was observed to be approximately 1.25 times higher compared to when the discharged power was 70W. It was established that the phenol degradation reaction was a primary reaction, and when the discharge power was 40W as opposed to 70W, the reaction rate constant(k) was approximately 1.72 times higher.

미역 (Undaria pinnatifida)의 생장에 따른 영양염과 CO2 흡수율 변화 (Variations in Nutrients and CO2 Uptake with Growth of Undaria pinnatifida from the South Coast of Korea)

  • To investigate the contribution of macroalgae to biogeochemical nutrients and carbon cycles, we measured the uptake rates of nutrients and $CO_2$ by Undaria pinnatifida using an incubation method in an acrylic chamber. From January to March 2010, U. pinnatifida was sampled at Ilkwang, a well-known area of macroalgae culture in Korea. The initial and final concentrations of nutrients, dissolved oxygen, total alkalinity, and pH of the chamber water were measured, and production/uptake rates were calculated using concentration changes, chamber volume, and incubation time. The production rate of dissolved oxygen by U. pinnatifida (n = 32) was about $5.4{\pm}4.0\;{\mu}mol\;g_{fw}^{-1\;}h^{-1}$. The uptake rate of total dissolved inorganic carbon (TDIC), calculated by total alkalinity and pH, was $7.9{\pm}6.5\;{\mu}mol\;g_{fw}^{-1}\;h^{-1}$. Nutrients uptake averaged $141.7{\pm}119.2$ nmol N $g_{fw}^{-1}\;h^{-1}$ and $15.0{\pm}9.1$ nmol P $g_{fw}^{-1}\;h^{-1}$. A positive linear correlation ($r^2$ = 9.6) existed between the production rate of dissolved oxygen and the uptake rate of total dissolved inorganic carbon, suggesting that these two factors serve as good indicators of U. pinnatifida photosynthesis. The relationships between fresh weight and uptake rates of nutrients and $CO_2$ suggested that younger specimens (<~50 g fresh weight) are much more efficient at nutrients and $CO_2$ uptake than are specimens >50 g. The amount of carbon uptake by the total biomass of U. pinnatifida in Korea during the year of 2008 was about 0.001-0.002% of global ocean carbon uptake. Thus, more research should be focused on macroalgae-based biogeochemical cycles to evaluate the roles and contributions of macroalgae to the global carbon cycle.

  • Black shale that has relatively high organic carbon content was tested to determine its sorption phenomena and capacity for TCE. Conventional batch sorption tests were peformed at room temperature. The parameters that were thought to affect the TCE sorption were solution pH and dissolved organic matter. The effect of solution pH on TCE sorption was minimal, but the dissolved organic matter increased the amount of TCE sorbed on black shale. Thus, using black shale as sorbent for TCE in groundwater could save material costs by replacing high cost conventional activated organic carbon.

The Active Dissolved Wafer Process (ADWP) for Integrating single Crystal Si MEMS with CMOS Circuits

  • This paper presents a fabrication technology for the integration of single crystal Si microstructures with on-chip circuitry. It is a dissolved wafer technique that combines an electro-chemical etch-stop for the protection of circuitry with an impurity-based etch-stop for the microstructures, both of which are defined in an n-epi layer on a p-type Si wafer. A CMOS op. amp. has been integrated with $p^{++}$ Si accelerometers using this process. It has a gain of 68 dB and an output swing within 0.2 V of its power supplies, unaffected by the wafer dissolution. The accelerometers have $3{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$ thick suspension beams and $15{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$ thick proof masses. The structural and electrical integrity of the fabricated devices demonstrates the success of the fabrication process. A variety of lead transfer methods are shown, and process details are discussed.

Production of Antibacterial Violet Pigment by Psychrotropic Bacterium RT102 Strain

  • The antibacterial action of violet pigment, a mixture of violacein and deoxyviolacein, isolated from phychrotrophic bacterium RT102 strain was examined, and the operational conditions for the effective production of violet pigment were studied. The antibacterial activity of the violet pigment was confirmed for several bacteria such as Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and the high concentration of violet pigment, above about 15mg/L, caused not only growth inhibition but also death of cells. The growth properties of RT102 strain were clarified under various incubation conditions such as pH, temperature, and dissolved oxygen concentration. The maximum violet pigment concentration, i.e. 3.7 g/L, and the maximum productivity of violet pigment, i.e. 0.12 g .L$\^$-1/H$\^$-1/, were obtained in a batch culture of pH 6, 20$^{\circ}C$, and 1 mg/L of dissolved oxygen concentration.

모나자이트 중의 납 정량을 위한 신속한 EDTA 적정법 (A Simple EDTA Titration Method for the Determination of Lead in Monazite)

  • 모나자이트 중의 납함량을 신속하고 간편하게 결정하는 방법을 기술하였다. 즉 모나자이트 시료를 황산에 녹여 200ml가 되겠끔 희석하였다. 스트론튬으로 납을 정량적으로 분리한 후 3N 수산화나트륨에 녹였다. 여분의 Zn-EDTA를 가한 다음 남은 아연 이온을 0.01M EDTA표준용액으로 적정하였으며 이때 가리움제 (masking agent)러서 시안화칼륨 및 아세틸 아세톤을 가하였고 pH 5에서 자이렌을 오렌지(Xylenol orange)를 지시약으로 사용하였다.
