  • A two-dimensional direct numerical simulations was peformed to investigate the flame structure of $CH_4/N_2$-Air counterflow nonpremixed flame interacting with a single vortex. The detailed transport properties and a modified 16-step augmented reduced mechanism based on Miller and Bowman's detailed reaction mechanism were adopted in this calculation. To quantify the strain on flame induced by a vortex, a scalar dissipation rate (SDR) is introduced. Results show that the fuel- and air-side vortex cause an unsteady extinction. In this case, the flame interacting with a vortex is extinguished in much larger SDR than steady flame. It was also found that air- side vortex extinguishes a flame more rapidly than fuel -side vortex.

  • Reburning is an efficient combustion technology to reduce nitrogen oxide by injecting hydro-carbon fuel to the downstream of the main combustion. In this paper LPG has been used not only as main fuel but also as reburn fuel and air was used as an oxidizer with 15kW swirl burner. Experimental studies have been done to evaluate effect of reburning for NOx reduction. Also to examine the effect of the amount of burnout air for complete combustion by reburn fuel on NOx reduction, test was conducted by reducing the amount of burnout air. Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation was performed using the commercial CFD code FLUENT 6.3 to simulate experimental results and investigate the thermo-chemical characteristics. An evaluation of reaction models for swirl burner has been carried out for propane-air with two step finite-rate eddy-dissipation model in FLUENT.

  • In this paper, an 8bit CMOS low power, high-speed current-mode folding and interpolation A/D converter is designed with te LG semicon $0.8\mu\textrm{m}$ N-well single-poly/double-metal CMOS process to be integrated into a portable image signal processing system such as a digital camcoder. For good linearity and low power consumption, folding amplifiers and for high speed performance of the A/D converter, analog circuitries including folding block, current-mode interpolation circuit and current comparator are designed as a differential-mode. The fabricated 8 bit A/D converter occupies the active chip area of TEX>$2.2mm \times 1.6mm$ and shows DNL of $\pm0.2LSB$, INL of <$\pm0.5LSB$, conversion rate of 40M samples/s, and the measured maximum power dissipation of 33.6mW at single +5V supply voltage.

  • This paper illustrates how simulation modeling can be of substantial help in designing constructions in the vicinity of airport runway and presents results about the influence of aircraft wake vortices through computer simulation. The cross-wind energy dissipation rate is estimated from the Y-directional velocity spectrum for a sample in a real meteorological observation data. The eddy region about cross wind in the vicinity of airport runway is highly dependent on the height and shape of the buildings and the AOA of aircraft is greatly influenced by Y-directional velocity occurred by dint of separation region in runway.

  • Continuing improvement of microprocessor performance involves in the devece size. This allow greater device speed, an increase in device packing density, and an increase in the number of functions that can reside on a single chip. However this has led to propagation delay, crosstalk noise, and power dissipation due to resistance-capacitance(RC) coupling become significant due to increased wiring capacitance, especially interline capacitance between the metal lines on the same metal level. Becase of pattering MSSQ (Methylsilsequioxane), we use RIE(Reactive ton Etching) which is a good anisotrgpy. In this study, according as we control a flow rate of CF$_4$/O$_2$ gas, RF power, we analysis by using ${\alpha}$ -step, SEM and AFM,

  • A kinematically admissible velocity field for the numerical analysis of closed-die forging process of spur gear is proposed. The velocity field is divided into three regions of deformation. In the analysis, the involute curve is approximated to be straight line and the upper-bound method is used to calculate energy dissipation rate. A constant frictional frictional factor has been assumed on the contacting surfaces. The effects of root diameter, number of teeth, and friction factor are determined on the relative forging pressure. The frictionless relative pressure is independent of root diameter for the same number of teeth, but increases with the number of teeth on a given root diameter. In the presence of friction, the relative forging presure increasing root diameter at the start of forging, but decreases with increasing root diameter in the processing of forging.

  • Using a vortex stretching invariant term, the two-layer k-.epsilon. model has been modified to account for the extra staining of turbulence due to the mean-flow convergence and divergence. The calculations of turbulent boundary layers in a plane of symmetry are compared for experimental cases which are an axisymmetric body at an incidence of 15.deg.. The comparisons between the calculations and experimental data show that additional modifications to the dissipation rate equation have brought the significant improvement to the prediction of plane of symmetry boundary layers in the strong mean-flow convergence and divergence.

  • Most previous studies have generally overlooked the contribution of thermal stresses generated within the concrete mass when subjected to microwave heating and reported on pore-pressure as being the dominant cause of surface spalling. Also, the variation in electromagnetic properties of concrete and its effects on the microwave heating process have not been studied in detail. In this paper, finite element modeling is used to examine the simultaneous development of compressive thermal stresses and pore-pressure arising from the microwave heating of concrete. A modified Lambert's Law formulation is proposed to estimate the microwave power dissipation in the concrete mass. Moreover, the effects of frequency and concrete water content on the concrete heating rate and pattern are investigated. Results show high compressive stresses being generated especially in concrete with a high water content when heated by microwaves of higher frequencies. The results also reveal that the water content of concrete plays a crucial role in the microwave heating process.

  • High temperature compression tests for newly developed Al-Zn-Mg alloy were carried out to investigate its hot deformation behavior and obtain deformation processing maps. In the compression tests, cylindrical specimens were deformed at high temperatures ($300-500^{\circ}C$) and strain rates of 0.001-1/s. Using the true stress-true strain curves obtained from the compression tests, processing maps were constructed by evaluating the power dissipation efficiency map and flow instability map. The processing map can be divided into three areas according to the microstructures of the deformed specimens: instability area with flow localization, instability area with mixed grains, and stable area with homogeneous grains resulting from continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX). The results suggest that the optimal processing conditions for the Al-Zn-Mg alloy are $450^{\circ}C$ and a strain rate of 0.001/s, having a stable area with homogeneous grains resulting from CDRX.

  • In this study, it was verified that carbon-ceramic brake discs can replace existing cast-iron brake discs of the same size. In addition, a method of pretreating carbon fiber to secure heat dissipation characteristics while using a small amount of carbon fiber was established. The thermal conductivity and bending strength characteristics were analyzed according to the carbon content, and brake braking tests were conducted. Through pretreatment, the maximum temperature was lowered by 16 ℃ compared to the case using only carbon fiber, and the cooling rate was improved by approximately 10% compared to metal brake discs. However, the total heat capacity increased as the mass increased owing to the reaction. Thus, the measured temperature was higher than that of the metal brake disc; therefore, additional research is required.
