Damage detection using both energy and displacement damage index on the ASCE benchmark problem

  • This paper aims to present a novelty damage detection method to identify damage locations by the simultaneous use of both the energy and displacement damage indices. Using this novelty method, the damaged location and even the damaged floor are accurately detected. As a first method, a combination of the instantaneous frequency energy index (EDI) and the structural acceleration responses are used. To evaluate the first method and also present a rapid assessment method, the Displacement Damage Index (DDI), which consists of the error reliability (β) and Normal Probability Density Function (NPDF) indices, are introduced. The innovation of this method is the simultaneous use of displacement-acceleration responses during one process, which is more effective in the rapid evaluation of damage patterns with velocity vectors. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, various damage scenarios of the ASCE benchmark problem, and the effects of measurement noise were studied numerically. Extensive analyses show that the rapid proposed method is capable of accurately detecting the location of sparse damages through the building. Finally, the proposed method was validated by experimental studies of a six-story steel building structure with single and multiple damage cases.

강널말뚝 흙막이벽으로 시공된 굴착연약지반의 안정성 (The Stability of Excavated Soft Ground Supported by Sheet-pile Walls)

  • 인천국제공항 공사현장의 흙막이 굴착단면에서 계측된 자료를 검토하여 연약지반에 설치된 강널말뚝 흙막이벽의 수평변위와 굴착주변지반의 변형에 대한 상관관계를 조사하였다. 벽체의 지지방식에 따른 강널말뚝 흙막이벽의 수평변위는 앵커지지, 복합지지, 버팀보지지 순으로 작게 나타났으며, 각각의 지지방식에 따른 최대수평변위 발생위치도 서로 다르게 발생하였다. 흙막이벽의 최대수평변위 및 최대수평변위속도는 굴착지반의 안정수가 ${\pi}$이하일 경우 각각 굴착깊이의 $1\%$, 1mm/day이하로 발생되고, 안정수가 ${\pi}+2$ 이하일 경우 각각 굴착깊이의 $2.5\%$, 2mm/day이하로 발생되며, 안정수가 ${\pi}+2$ 이상일 경우 급격하게 증가한다. 또한, 굴착저면에서의 N치가 감소함에 따라 흙막이벽의 최대수평 변위는 증가하며, N치가 약 10이하일 경우 흙막이벽의 최대수평변위는 급격하게 증가함을 알 수 있다. 한편, Terzaghi(1943)에 의해 제안된 히빙에 대한 안전율이 감소함에 따라 흙막이벽의 최대수평변위는 증가하며, 히빙의 안전율이 2.0일 경우 흙막이벽의 최대수평변위는 급속하게 증가함을 알 수 있다. 따라서, 국내 연약지반 강널말뚝 흙막이벽의 경우 히빙에 대한 안전율은 2.0으로 제안할 수 있다.

테니스 한손 백핸드 스트로크와 양손 백핸드 스트로크 동작의 3차원 운동학적 비교 분석 (3-D Kinematic comparison of One Hand Backhand Stroke and Two Hand Backhand Stroke in Tennis)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations between the segments of the body, the three dimensional anatomical angle during One Hand Backhand Stroke and Two Hand Backhand in tennis. For the movement analysis three dimensional cinematographical method(APAS) was used and for the calculation of the kinematic variables a self developed program was used with the LabVIEW 6.1 graphical programming(Johnson, 1999) program. By using Eular's equations the three dimensional anatomical Cardan angles of the joint and racket head direction were defined. 1. In three dimensional maximum linear velocity of racket head the X axis and Y axis(horizontal direction) showed $-11.04{\pm}2.69m/sec$, $-9.31{\pm}0.49m/sec$ before impact, the z axis(vertical direction) maximum linear velocity of racket head did not show at impact but after impact this will resulted influence upon hitting ball. It could be suggest that Y axis velocity of racket head influence on ball direction and z axis velocity influence on ball spin after impact. The stance distance between right foot and left foot was mean $75.4{\pm}5.86cm$ during one hand backhand stroke and $72.6{\pm}4.67cm$ during two hand backhand stroke. 2. The three dimensional anatomical angular displacement of trunk in interna rotation-external rotation showed most important role in backhand stroke. and is follwed by flexion-extension. the three dimensional anatomical angular displacement of trunk did not show significant difference between one hand backhand stroke and two hand backhand stroke but the three dimensional anatomical angular displacement of trunk was bigger than one hand backhand stroke. 3. while backhand stroke, the flexion-extension and adduction-abduction of right shoulder joint showed significant different between one hand backhand stroke and two hand backhand stroke. the three dimensional anatomical angular displacement of right shoulder joint showed more flex and abduct in one hand backhand stroke. 4. The three dimensional anatomical angular displacement of left shoulder showed flexion, adduction, and external rotation at impact. after impact, The angular displacement as adduction-abduction of left shoulder changed motion direction as abduction. angular displacement of left shoulder as flexion-extension showed bigger than the right shoulder.

  • Recently among several tennis techniques forehand stroke has been greatly changed in the aspect of spin, grip and stance. The most fundamental factor among the three factors is the stance which consists of open, square and closed stance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations between the segments of the body, the three dimensional anatomical angle according to open stance patterns during forehand stroke in tennis. The three dimensional anatomical angular displacement of shoulder joint showed most important role in forehand stroke. and is followed by wrist joints, in addition the movement of elbow joints showed least to the stroke. The three dimensional anatomical angular displacement of racket increased flexion/abduction angle until the impact. after impact, The angular displacement of racket changed motion direction as extension/adduction. 3. The three dimensional anatomical angular displacement of trunk in flexion-extension showed extension all around the forehand stroke. The angular displacement of trunk in adduction-abduction showed abduction at the backswing top and adduction around impact. while there is no significant internal-external rotation 4. The three dimensional anatomical angular displacement of hip joint and knee joint increased extension angle after minimum of knee joint angle in the forehand stroke, The three dimensional anatomical angular displacement of ankle joint showed plantar flexion, internal rotation and eversion in forehand stroke. it could be suggest that the plantar pressure of open stance during forehand stroke would be distributed more largely to the fore foot. and lateral side.

  • Conductive Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films have recently attracted much interest from the viewpoint of ultrathin film conductors at the molecular level. The result shows that the Maxwell-displacement-current (MDC) measuring technique is useful in the detection of phase-transitions over the entire range of molecule areas. In this parer, electrical properties of PBDG Langmuir(L) films were investigated using a displacement current measuring technique with pressure stimulation. Displacement current was generated When the Spread volume $150{\mu}{\ell}$ and compression velocity was about 30, 40, 50 mm/min. In the result, it is known that current is generated of higher current peek as compression velocity become faster.

전기.유압펌프 시스템의 설계 및 제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on Design and Control of Electro-Hydraulic Pump System)

  • The study deals with controlling the velocity of hydraulic motor with PI controller through the control of displacement pump which has higher efficiency than valve-controlled system. This was done as follows. First, we modified original displacement pump and designed this electrohydraulic puma system. Second, after experimenting static and dynamic characteristics, we identified system parameter of approximated model. Lastly, to control the velocity of hydraulic motor we controlled the angle of the swash plate of displacement pump. Test carried out in the laboratory shows that transient and steady state response could be improved by PI controller reducing power loss.

  • The displacemant current measuring system used for detecting the dynamic behavior of monolayers at the air-water interface is described. It basically consists of a film balance, a pair of electrodes connected to each other through a sensitive ammeter. Here, one electrode is suspended in air and the other electrode is placed in the water. With Maxwell-displacement-current-measuring method, the phase transitons of $Poly-{\gamma}-benzyl_{L}$ -glutamate (PBLG) and $Poly-{\gamma}-benzyl_{D}$-glutamate(PBDG) on a water surface were detected. Measured surface pressure, displacement current and dipole moment of monolayers of PBLG and PBDG on the water surface. Also, we measured that compression velocity (30, 40, 50[mm/min]) when the sample spread volume was about 370[ul]-400[ul] and displacement current that occur when differed temperature. From the result, it is known that current is generated in the range of high surface pressures as compression velocity become faster and increase of temperature.

유한 요소 해석을 활용한 공작기계 이송축 열적 특성 평가 (Evaluation of Thermal Characteristics for a Feeding Axis of Machine Tools Using Finite Element Analysis)

  • In this study, two finite element (FE) models were developed to evaluate the thermal characteristics of a feeding axis of a CNC lathe. One was used for analysis of heat transfer to identify the temperature distribution of the feeding axis and then, the other was used for analysis of thermal deformation to evaluate its structural behavior based on the temperature distribution. The FE models were based on the test standard for the axial thermal displacement. The feeding velocity was composed of three steps: the ascending, constant, and descending velocities. Therefore, the heat generation and convection coefficient were calculated for each velocity and applied to the thermal FE model. The convection coefficient for the ball screw rotation was based on an experimental equation. The result of the analytical thermal displacement was compared with that of the experimental displacement to verify the finite element models.

  • A functional suspension model is proposed as a kinematic describing function of the suspension, that represents the relative wheel displacement in polynomial form in terms of the vertical displacement of the wheel center and steering rack displacement. The relative velocity and acceleration of the wheel is represented in terms of first and second derivatives of the kinematic describing function. The system equations of motion for the full vehicle dynamic model are systematically derived by using velocity transformation method of multi-body dynamics. The comparison of test and simulation results demonstrates the validity of the proposed functional suspension modeling method. The model is computationally very efficient to achieve real-time simulation on TMS 320C6711 150 MHz DSP board of HILS (hardware-in-the-loop simulation) system for ECU (electronic control unit) evaluation of semi-active suspension.

  • Surface normal vector and surface velocity are very important parameters to simulate rolling processes precisely. In this study, Local displacement functions are constructed for each node on the contact surface and parameters are found by the least square fitting of displacement on the neighbor nodes. Deformation gradient tensor is calculated from the displacement function and surface normal vector and velocity also can be derived. Flat rolling simulation model is presented on the basis of the suggested contact scheme. Series of rolling process simulation are carried out and the results are compared with the experiments.
