In this study, a cancer treatment by accumulating and aggregating ferromagnetic particles in newborn blood vessels was examined. It is necessary for this treatment to control dispersion-aggregation property of ferromagnetic particles. Ferromagnetic particles required in this method disperse at low magnetic field, aggregate at high magnetic field and maintain the aggregation even after removal of the magnetic field. In order to control the dispersion-aggregation property, the surface of magnetite particles was modified with higher fatty acids having different lengths. As a result, we succeeded to prepare propionic acid-modified magnetite particles that form irreversible aggregation by magnetic field. The model experiments simulating newborn blood vessels showed that these particles can block the flow by the magnetic field, and the blockage was maintained after removal of the magnetic field.

This study aimed to prepare antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) dispersion with high stability. The methods to achieve this goal were sought by investigating the changes of ATO particle size, size distribution, dispersion property as wet ball milling treatment time increased. And the changes of wet ball milled ATO dispersion property were also investigated, as pH increased. The changes of ATO particle size and size distribution, according to wet ball milling treatment time were evaluated with laser diffraction particle size analyzer and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The changes of ATO dispersion property, as wet ball milling treatment time and pH increased, were evaluated with zeta potential analysis and Turbiscan. By 60 min wet ball milling treatment time, ATO particle size decreased and size distribution became narrower, as the treatment time increased. After 60 min milling, the ATO particle size decreased to less than 30% of the initial size and the size distribution was narrowed to $0.1{\sim}5{\mu}m$ from $1{\sim}35{\mu}m$. However, more than 60 min milling, ATO particles aggregated and the particle size increased. ATO dispersion stability also increased as the treatment time and pH increased because the reduced particle size increased particle surface energy and repulsion between particles and the increased pH enhanced particle surface ionization. Hence, after proper length of wet ball milling treatment, highly stable ATO dispersion can be prepared, as increasing pH of the dispersion.
The continuous wavelet transform (CWT) has a frequency-adaptive time-frequency tiling property, which makes it popular for the analysis of dispersive elastic wave signals. However, because the time-frequency tiling of CWT is not signal-dependent, it still has some limitations in the analysis of elastic waves with spectral components that are dispersed rapidly in time. The objective of this paper is to introduce an advanced time-frequency analysis method, called the dispersion-based continuous wavelet transform (D-CWT) whose time-frequency tiling is adaptively varied according to the dispersion relation of the waves to be analyzed. In the D-CWT method, time-frequency tiling can have frequency-adaptive characteristics like CWT and adaptively rotate in the time-frequency plane depending on the local wave dispersion. Therefore, D-CWT provides higher time-frequency localization than the conventional CWT. In this work, D-CWT method is applied to the analysis of dispersive elastic waves measured in waveguide experiments and an efficient procedure to extract information on the dispersion relation hidden in a wave signal is presented. In addition, the ridge property of the present transform is investigated theoretically to show its effectiveness in analyzing highly time-varying signals. Numerical simulations and experimental results are presented to show the effectiveness of the present method.

In this paper, we develope a dispersion model based on the Generalized Langevin Model. Thomson's well-mixed condition is the well known criterion to determine particle dispersion. But, it has 'non-uniqueness problem'. To resolve this, we adopt a turbulent model which is a new approach in this field of study. Our model was greatly simplified under the self-similarity condition, leaving model only two model constants $C_{0}$ and ${\gamma}$$_{5}$ that control the dispersion and spin which measures rotational property of the Lagrangian particle trajectory. We investigated the sign of spin as well as magnitude by using the Direct Numerical Simulation. Model calculations were performed on the neutrally stable boundary layer flow. We found that spin has weak effect on the particle dispersion but it shows the significant effect on the horizontal flux compared to the zero-spin model.

The wavelength dispersion of birefringence (or retardation) is very important property for optical use of polymer films. Birefringence free film and retardation film have been widely used for applications such as liquid crystal display (LCD). In this study, miscible polymer blends which consist of polymers of positive and negative birefringence were found. By operating composition and orientation of molecules in the transparent blend films, the behavior of wavelength dispersion of birefringence (retardation) was controlled. The applicability to wideband birefringence free film and quarter wave (retardation) film was discussed.
Optimal values of $\alpha$ characterizing the linear dispersion property in the modified Boussinesq equations are determined by minimizing the combined relative errors of the phase and group velocities. The value of $\alpha$ is fixed in previous studies, whereas it is varying in the present study. The phase and group velocities are calculated by using variable $\alpha$ and compared to those of the linear Stokes wave theory and previous studies. It is found that the present study produces the best match to the linear Stokes theory.

The dynamic rheological properties of the dope and the hydrated disperson of the soyprotein, as a starting material of soyprotein fiber, were studied to investigate their viscoelastic properties. The increase of protein concentration in the both cases of the dope and the dispersion resulted in the establishment of intermolecular reaction of the protein. With the addition of alkali solution to the dispersion, the dope shows the characteristics of very lightly cross-linked high molecular weight polymer. In constrast, the dispersion shows the properties of an amorphorous polymer. The effects of chemical modification of the dispersion on the dynamic properties were also investigated.
Dicyanate-clay nanocomposite has been prepared by a melt in-situ polymerization method for different modifiers and cation exchange capacity (CEC) values in order to study dispersion and mechanical property. Various dicyanate nanocomposites were prepared by using different MMT systems containing different intercalants which led to different initial gallery heights and packing density. Depending on compatibility between dicyanate and clays, the degree of dispersion varied. Dispersion of clay plates in dicyanate resin depended mainly on CEC and aliphatic chain length of modifier. The lower CEC and shorter aliphatic chain length of modifier gave the exfoliation structure. It was also found that the reactivity of intercalant with dicyanate resin was one of the key factors facilitating the intercalation/exfoliation process of dicyanate/MMT nanocomposites. Shear modulus of reaction-induced dicyanate nanocomposite was significantly increased.

Two types of one-dimensional dispersion-correction scheme are developed to take into account the dispersion effects for the simulation of tsunami propagation using ADCIRC finite element model based on shallow-water equations The first is an implicit scheme, and the dispersion-correction is accomplished by controlling the weighting factor assigned to each spatial derivative term of different time levels. The other scheme is explicit and the dispersion is considered by adjusting the element size. The validity of the dispersion-correction scheme proposed in this study is confirmed through the comparison of numerical solutions calculated using the new schemes with analytical ones considering dispersion effect of waves.
In order to fabricate the porous $Al_2O_3$ with dispersion of nano-sized Cu particles, freeze-drying of camphene/$Al_2O_3$ slurry and solution chemistry process using Cu-nitrate are introduced. Camphene slurries with 10 vol% $Al_2O_3$ was frozen at $-25^{\circ}C$. Pores were generated by sublimation of the camphene during drying in air. The sintered samples at 1400 and $1500^{\circ}C$ showed the same size of large pores which were aligned parallel to the sublimable vehicles growth direction. However, the size of fine pores in the internal walls of large pores decreased with increase in sintering temperature. It was shown that Cu particles with the size of 100 nm were homogeneously dispersed on the surfaces of the large pores. Antibacterial test using fungus revealed that the porous $Al_2O_3$/1 vol% Cu composite showed antifungal property due to the dispersion of Cu particles. The results are suggested that the porous composites with required pore characteristics and functional property can be fabricated by freeze-drying process and addition of functional nano particles by chemical method.
