Synthesis and Application of Reactive Polymer Modifiers for Asphalt: 2. Application (아스팔트용 반응성 고분자 개질제 합성 및 적용: 2. 적용)

  • This study is on the performance analysis of modified asphalts which were prepared by mixing the asphalt with polymer modifiers of varying compositions which were synthesized by the emulsion polymerization method. Thermal properties of mired asphalt were investigated by DSC (differential scanning calorimetry), and dispersion of modifiers in asphalt was investigated by the fluorescence microscope. Dynamic stability and permanent deformation velocities of mixed asphalt were investigated by wheel tracking measurements. Modifier 6 showed the best results in both penetration test and wheel tracking measurement among investigated modifiers, which supports MMA(methyl methacrylate) moiety in modifiers plays better contribution for the enhancement of asphalt performance than styrene moiety does.

Color Filter Utilizing a Thin Film Etalon (박막형 에탈론 기반의 투과형 컬러필터)

  • A transmission type color filter based on a thin film Ag-$SiO_2$-Ag etalon was proposed and realized in a quartz substrate. The device could acquire infrared suppressed transmission and wide effective area compared to costly e-beam lithography and laser interference lithography. The FDTD method was introduced to take into account the effect of the dispersion characteristics of the silver metal and the thickness thereof. Three different color filters were devised: The cavity length for the red, green and blue filters were 160 nm, 130 nm, and 100 nm respectively, with the metal layer unchanged at 25 nm. The observed center wavelengths were measured at 650 nm, 555 nm, and 480 nm for the red, green, and blue devices; the corresponding bandwidths were about 120 nm, 100 nm, and 120 nm; and the peak transmission for all was ~60%. Finally the relative transmission was measured to decline with the angle of the incident beam with the rate of 1%/degree.

Hydrophilic Graphite Nanoparticles Synthesized by Liquid Phase Pulsed Laser Ablation and Their Carbon-composite Sensor Application (액상 펄스 레이저 어블레이션에 의한 친수성 그라파이트 나노입자의 제조 및 센서 응용)

  • It is widely recognized that it is hard to prepare hydrophilic graphite nanoparticles because of their high crystallinity and inert characteristics. In this study, we successfully synthesized the hydrophilic graphite nanoparticles by using liquid phase pulsed laser ablation method which has been actively employed for the thin film deposition up to now. The obtained hydrophilic graphite showed an ultra-high dispersion stability in water, because the hydrophilic functional groups like carboxyl and carbonyl group was simultaneously introduced onto the graphite surface with the nanoparticle formation, as confirmed by FT-IR and zeta potential measurements. Finally, a markedly enhanced gas sensing ability for acetone was shown in comparison with the conventional carbon black for the carbon polymer composite sensor with polyethyleneglycol (PEG).

A study on the fabrication of Y-branch for optical power distribution and its coupling properties with optical fiber (광분배를 위한 Y-branch 제작과 광파이버와의 결합특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, w designed an opical power distribution device for application to an optical switching and an optical subscriber loop. We fabricated PSG thin film by LPCVD. Based on the measured index of fabricted thin film, rib-type waveguide was transformed to two-dimension by the effective index method and we simulated dispersion property to find asingle-mode condition. We found that the optimum design parameters of rib-type waveguide are:cladding layer of 3.mu.m, core layer of 3.mu.m, buffer layer of 10.mu.m, and core width of 4.mu.m. Each side of the guiding region was etched down to 4.mu.m to shape the core. We used these optimum parameters of the rib-type waveguide with branching angle of 0.5.deg. and simulted the Y-branch waveguide by the BPM simulation. Numerical loss in branching area was claculated to be 0.1581dB and equal to the total loss of the Y-branch. The loss of the fabricated Y-branch waveguide on PSG film ws 1.6dB at .lambda.=1.3.mu.m before annealing but was 1.2dB after annealing at 1000.deg. C for 10 minutes. Consequently, the loss of branching area from 3000.mu.m to 6000.mu.m in the z-direction was 0.8dB, and single-mode propagation was confirmed by measuring the near field pattern. For coupling the fabricated Y-branch waveguide with an optical fiber, we fabricated V-groove which was used as the upholder of optical fiber. An etching angle was 54.deg. and the width and depth of guiding groove was 150.mu.m, 70.mu.m, respectively. The optical fiber is inserted onto V-groove. Both the Y-branch and V-groove were connected through the index matching oil. Coupling loss after connecting Y-branch and the optical fiber on V-groove was 0.34dB and that after injecting index mateching oil was 0.14dB.

Design of a Miniature Power Divider Based on the CRLH Zeroth Order Resonator with the Bandpass Filtering for the Military Satellite (군 위성통신 중계기용 대역통과 여파기 특성을 갖는 CRLH O-차 공진 기반 소형 전력분배기의 설계)

  • In this paper, a new compact power divider is suggested. Instead of the quarter wavelength transmission line(TX-line)s for the branches of the conventional Wilkinson's power divider design method, we use our composite right- and left-handed(CRLH) TX-line zeroth order resonator(ZOR) bandpass filters of one twelfth wavelength and reduce the physical length of the power divider. Besides, the filters in the branches can secure the passband for power-division. To validate the proposed power divider, we take an L-band for millitary satellaite transponder as the test case and the performances of the circuit and full-wave simulation results with the CRLH properties of the structure are shown with the dispersion curve and E-field at the ZOR. The measurement is compared with the simulation results. Also, the size reduction effect by the proposed scheme is addressed

Implementation of Content Based Color Image Retrieval System using Wavelet Transformation Method (웨블릿 변환기법을 이용한 내용기반 컬러영상 검색시스템 구현)

  • In this paper, we implemented a content-based image retrieval system that user can choose a wanted query region of object and retrieve similar object from image database. Query image is induced to wavelet transformation after divided into hue components and gray components that hue features is extracted through color autocorrelogram and dispersion in hue components. Texture feature is extracted through autocorrelogram and GLCM in gray components also. Using features of two components, retrieval is processed to compare each similarity with database image. In here, weight value is applied to each similarity value. We make up for each defect by deriving features from two components beside one that elevations of recall and precision are verified in experiment results. Moreover, retrieval efficiency is improved by weight value. And various features of database images are indexed automatically in feature library that make possible to rapid image retrieval.

  • As the development of MEMS/NEMS structure and application technology the demand for an assessment of the mechanical properties have increased. The mechanical properties are mainly evaluated by using tensile test or ultrasonic wave measurement. However, the new technology have been developed such as nano-indentation, guided wave method because they have a limitation in case of a thin plate and thin film. In the study, the guided wave velocities are measured by electromagnetic-acoustic transducer(EMAT), the material properties of thin metallic foils are obtained using optimization process of the theoretical and experimental group velocity of guided wave. The Young's modulus obtained by the optimization process(201.6 GPa), nano-indentation(207.0 GPa) and literature value(203.7 GPa) of a $50{\mu}m$ thick nickel thin plate shows good agreement within 3%.

Propagation of Elastic Waves in Fiber Reinforced Composites (섬유강화 복합재료 내의 탄성파 전파)

  • A dynamic self-consistent method previously proposed and validated for the composites containing spherical inclusions is applied to the simplest two dimensional problems : SH wave propagation in unidirectional fiber reinforced composites. The self-consistent conditions for SH wave are derived without limitation on frequency and the wave speed and coherent attenuation are calculated for two composites. THe results of the present theory are compared with those of the multiple scattering theories and another self-consistent theory. At low volume fractions, the present theoretical results coincide with those of the multiple scattering theory using exact pair-correlation function, whereas the results based on another self-consistent theory deviate markedly from the others. As the volume fraction increases, the three theories give different results although they have qualitatively similar trends. The present theoretical results for composites considered in this paper exhibit less dispersion and physically realizable attenuation. An important observation is that the multiple scattering theory predicts vanishingly small attenuation at low frequency with volume fraction is high.

  • It is very important for the competitiveness and sustainable management of enterprises that the rapid changes in the managerial environments quickly and accurately are responded. For example, the large-scale investment accompanied by bad alternatives in accordance with misunderstanding of the managerial environments yields the huge cost and effort to modify and improve. In firm management, the quality of products and the productivity are influenced by changes of the endogenous factors yielded in manufacturing process and the exogenous factors as market, etc. These changes include not only changes in 4M (man, machine, material, method) but also those in the market, competitors, and technologies in the process of commodification, i.e., first, such disturbances make dispersion of the process big and odd. By Shewhart chart it can be checked that the process monitored is control-in or out. Business administration executes activities for input stabilization by monitoring changes in 4Ms, comparing with the standards, and taking measures for any abnormality. Second, TRM (technology road map) is to prospect product deployment and technological trend by predicting technologies in the competitive environment as the market, and to suggest the future directions of business. So, TRM must be modified and improved according to DR (design review) stages and changes in mass-production like input material change. Therefore, a role of TRM in input stabilization for reducing cost and man-hour is important. This study purposed to suggest that the environment changes are classified into endogenous factors and exogenous factors in production process, and then, quality and productivity should be stabilized efficiently through connection between TRM and input stabilization, and to prove that it is more effective for the display industry to connect TRM with input stabilization rather than to use TRM separately.

The Synthesis of Nano-sphere Titanium-oxide and Cosmetic Applications (광반사체로 사용되는 $TiO_2$ 나노구형체의 합성과 화장품으로의 적용 연구)

  • In this study, the $TiO_2$ nano spheres were synthesized by Sol-gel method to give an excellent UV-blocking effect and increase waste adsorption. The pH value was adjusted to obtain a superb UV-blocking effect and adsorption capacity due to the high surface area which is the characteristics of porosity. Base treated $TiO_2$ showed outstanding characteristics. The adsorption of gycerine onto the $TiO_2$ sample using TGA resulted in a high surface area of 1.16 mg/mg. This also showed a high reflectance in the UV-A region. In order to find the optimum dispersion, inorganic powder particles were maintained their sizes as 180 nm for about 6 months. The size of particles were measured using ester oil and silicon oil. Overall, the results reveal that $TiO_2$ has an excellent capability sunscreen in the UV-A region and skin waste adsorption.
