The number of old buildings older than 30 years in Korea continues to increase from 29.9% in 2005 to 38.8% in 2020. Considering the growing urban regeneration projects, urban maintenance projects, the suppression of urban expansion, and the lack of idle land in the city, the dismantling of old buildings is expected to increase further in the future. As major accidents at building dismantling sites continue to occur, related agencies are also strengthening safety management of building dismantling works. While physical safety management such as collapse and fall is strengthened, there is a relative lack of interest in the health of workers at dismantling sites due to environmental hazards. Since relevant laws stipulate that construction waste should be separated and discharged, old buildings need to be considered for environmental hazards such as fine dust, floating bacteria, and floating molds when dismantling. In this study, we intend to find important safety management elements in the management of building dismantling sites, measure environmental factors harmful to dismantling workers, and present basic data for the management of dismantling sites in the future. "Safety management" was the highest priority, followed by "dust," "vibration," "noise," "bacteria," and "smell." The perception of the importance of "physical damage prevention" with workers working on dismantling and managers managing the site came out similar, but the perception of "work efficiency" and "health disorder prevention" through environmental hazard management showed different priorities. In the process of dismantling, floating bacteria and floating mold were collected, cultured, and measured the concentration in the indoor air. The measurement was measured by dividing it into pre-dismantling and during dismantling.
It is necessary for lower grade students to study the correct usage of tools as a base of the technical education for dismantling and assembling various machines. However, enough understanding has not been obtained though the usage of these tools when training first grade students. So, we started to develop a teaching text and materials within the students' practice curriculum based on the dismantling and assembly of all-terrain vehicle [ATV]'s, which is a very motivating for lower grade students. This practice makes the student learn both how to use the tools and the steering mechanism of cars through the dismantling and assembling of the ATV. It is possible to not only have the student learn about the knowledge obtained through the practice, but also they also acquire wider and deeper knowledge through making the text and teaching materials for the practice. The textbook and secondary educational materials of this practice curriculum were created in cooperation with a fifth grade student as part of their graduation research. As a result, an effective teaching and learning text and secondary educational material regarding manufacturing practice could be developed from the student's point of view. Making a teaching text and materials is effective for promoting the study and experience of engineering.

The D&D work requires worker's safety and high reliability of operation because it has been processing in high radioactive environment. Therefore, it is necessary to select the dismantling items and applicable dismantling technologies and analyze the scenarios for selected items. In this paper, the main dismantling items were selected by the consideration of several factors, their 3D CAD models were constructed as well. The applicable dismantling technologies for each dismantling items were selected and their dismantling scenarios were setup. Finally the 3D graphic simulations for the shielding concrete, the RSR, and the core are performed.

Now a performance process of Demolition works is 'Before-Removal & After-Classification' method in Korea. This method is short of demolition time, but construction wastes contained substances lower recycling rate of construction, raise expenses of reclamation & treatment. Then the government has decided upon a positive 'Before-Classification & After-Removal' method, and substantially raise a recycling rate of construction wastes. Therefore, this study makes an investigation into state of internal and external demolition field through evaluating technological level, we make a proposal of dismantling method from there. Also, we put dismantling to the test in an apartment by proposed work process. As the result, it made a term of works increased for removing interior material. To solve this problem, we need to develop tools and methods of construction that can remove efficiently. From now on, we continuously need to study a breakdown system of dismantling, analysis of dismantling process and general system by inspecting entire demolition process. And we have to study details for making a specific thesis of method of removing interior material which was based on developing a suitable partial demolition machine and dismantling works.
When decommissioning a nuclear power plant, it is difficult to make an appropriate plan to ensure sufficient space for temporary placement and conveyance operations of dismantling targets. This paper describes a system to support temporary placement and conveyance operations using augmented reality (AR). The system employs a laser range scanner to measure the three-dimensional (3D) information of the environment and a dismantling target to produce 3D surface polygon models. Then, the operator simulates temporary placement and conveyance operations using the system by manipulating the obtained 3D model of the dismantling target in the work field. Referring to the obtained 3D model of the environment, a possible collision between the dismantling target and the environment is detectable. Using AR, the collision position is presented intuitively. After field workers evaluated this system, the authors concluded that the system is feasible and acceptable to verify whether spaces for passage and temporary storage are sufficient for temporary placement and conveyance operations. For practical use in the future, some new functions must be added to improve the system. For example, it must be possible for multiple workers to use the system simultaneously by sharing the view of dismantling work.

Underwater cutting has a different mechanism than dry cutting, and there are more restrictions than benefits. Due to these constraints, research and development of underwater cutting has been very limited. At present, reactor dismantling is emerging as an important task worldwide, and reactor pressure containers, a key part of the reactor, are decommissioned based on underwater cutting. Reactor pressure containers are high-level radioactive waste, which is one of the main goals of today, such as to bridge the gap between environmental, safety, and cutting performance; hence, a process suitable for cutting should be applied. Therefore, many studies are being conducted on underwater cutting in connection with the dismantling of nuclear reactors in various areas in order to find appropriate processes. This paper first introduces the core technology of underwater cutting processes and discusses various processes. The emphasis is then placed on the adequacy of the reactor dismantling application. More specifically, we examine the suitability for the mechanical and thermal cutting processes, respectively, to find a solution suitable for dismantling a reactor. We discuss how each solution can sufficiently perform the specified functions at each stage of reactor dismantling and suggest that these processes can perform all of the work of underwater cutting.

Since the dismantling processes of building are very dangerous, there have been many studies to develop a remote operating devices using joystick. In this paper, in order to improve the operability of the dismantling actuator that is usually an excavator, a novel concept of tele-operated haptic device is proposed. Operators who use this haptic device with additional environmental sensing devices can work safely away from the dangerous sites. First, based on the concept design of the haptic device, the workspace mapping from the haptic device to the excavator is explored. Second, the kinematics which deals with the conversion from the 3 dimensional position information of the haptic device to the joint variable information of the backhoe is included. Lastly, 3D graphical simulation of both haptic device and the backhoe will be shown. This new design of the haptic device can be easily manufactured and gives the workers very convenient and transparent remote control capability.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2018, approximately 37% of residential buildings in Korea need to be reconstructed. Due to the rapid growth of the demolition industry, many side effects such as environmental destruction and safety accidents are becoming a problem in the demolition of existing buildings. This study proposes a decision-making process for selecting the most suitable dismantling method for field application by comprehensively considering safety, economic feasibility, and environmental characteristics. In particular, field applicability is evaluated by evaluating risk factors for the selected method. To this end, this study proposes the TOPSIS method for the selection of the dismantling method using the QFD development concept, and the FMEA method as a continuous development process of the selected method.

Currently, reconstruction and remodeling are conducted to improve the performance of aged housing. Recently reconstruction has caused many problems such as wastes generation, wasting resources and real estate speculation, remodeling is drawing attention. Accordingly, remodeling business for aged housings gradually increasing, but the use of scheduling method not considering characteristics of remodeling deters construction in some construction types. Especially, in case of dismantling construction, the dismantling is delayed since the scheduling method not considering characteristics of remodeling is used. In case of remodeling, dismantling construction is ahead of other processes, if the dismantling construction is delayed, whole construction will be delayed and if speedy construction is conducted, the costs for remodeling will increase. Furthermore, existing remodeling for aged housing has been for rahmen(crossbeam and pillar) structure apartments, but since most apartments to be remodeled are wall-slab structure where dismantling takes a lot of weight, it is highly possible the dismantling construction is delayed. Thus, this paper is to establish scheduling method for the dismantling construction reflecting characteristic of remodeling to prevent delay of dismantling construction for remodeling of aged housing with wall-slab structure.

As recent construction projects aim to build higher and bigger buildings, lifting operation is getting increasingly important in construction sites. Accordingly, as tower cranes get higher and higher, disasters involving tower cranes are also on the rise. According to occupational incident statistics of the Korea Occupational Health & Safety Agency (KOHSA), most of such incidents occur in installation, dismantling and climbing phases of tower crane. Therefore, it is essential to develop preventative measures to secure safety of tower crane operations, with critical focus on installation, dismantling and climbing of tower crane. Hence, this research attempts to measure criticality of key risk factors in installation, dismantling and climbing phases of tower crane on construction site and propose necessary safety measures. As a result, conclusions herein will contribute to minimize disasters and incidents involving tower cranes in high-rise building construction sites.
