The effects of half-section waste tire reinforcement on pipe deformation behavior

  • Every year, millions of waste tires are discarded across the world. Storage of waste tires presents many problems such as fire threats, epidemics, and non-economic factors. Furthermore, the disintegration process of waste tires is not economical or practical due to its time-consuming, and disposal requirements. In this study, half-section waste tires (HSWTs) were integrated with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes under different relative density conditions. The main aim of the study was to reduce the deformation values of embedded HDPE pipes in sandy soil and to evaluate the soil-pipe interaction. In comprehensive laboratory tests, half-section waste tires were integrated in two different ways: in the middle of the pipeline and along the pipeline. Accordingly, it was concluded that the effectiveness of waste tires reduces the deformation and bending moment values in the critical regions of pipes. As a result of reinforcement in the mid-point of the pipe defined as the most critical region, 52% and 36% less deformation was observed in the crown and springlines of the pipe, respectively. In addition, the bending moment values for the same critical section were determined to be 40% less in the crown and 28% less in the springline regions of the pipe.

생분해성 플라스틱 PLA(Polylactic acid) 퇴비화를 통한 생분해능 검토 (Study on the Biodegradable ability of Biodegradable Plastics PLA(Polylactic acid) by composting)

  • 기존에 군에서 사용하는 훈련용 수류탄은 분해가 어려운 플라스틱 성분으로 구성되어 환경오염의 원인이 되었다. 그래서 짧은 시간 내에 생분해될 수 있는 PLA(Polylactic acid) 계열 소재를 적용하게 되었다. 특히 PLA 수지는 생분해성 고분자 물질로 최종적으로 이산화탄소와 물로 분해되어 타 분야에서도 플라스틱의 대체 물질로 관심이 높다. 그래서 이번 연구에서는 연습용 수류탄에 적용된 PLA계열 소재가 실제적으로 분해 능력을 가지는지 확인하고, 타 품목에 적용가능 여부를 판단하기 위해 파일럿-규모의 퇴비화 과정을 진행하였다. 퇴비화 시험은 ISO 16929(2013)에 따라 진행하였으며, 실험 후 모든 파라미터를 통해 실험 과정이 유효하다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 퇴비화 시험 마지막에(12주 후) 시험 장치 내 시료를 포함한 전체 내용물을 체에 거르고, 구분, 분리하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 12주 후 99.2%의 붕괴도를 보였으며, 이는 ISO 17088(2013), EN 13432(2000), ASTM D 6400-12의 기준인 90%를 통과할 수 있는 수준이라고 볼 수 있다. 그러므로 지속적인 연구를 통해 소모성이 큰 타 품목에 PLA 재질의 추가 적용이 필요하다고 판단된다.

완전요인배치법을 이용한 carvedilol 및 ivabradine 이층정 복합제 내 carvedilol 속방층 제형 최적화 연구 (Formulation Optimization Study of Carvedilol and Ivabradine Fixed-dose Combination Tablet Using Full-factorial Design)

  • 본 연구는 carvedilol과 ivabradine의 이층정 제형 개발에 있어 carvedilol 속방층의 제형조건을 최적화하기 위해 수행되었다. Full-factorial design of experiments를 사용하여 carvedilol 속방층(wet granulation part)의 첨가제(microcrystalline cellulose, citric acid, crospovidone) 및 타정 시 공정변수(main compression)를 확인하였고 각 독립변수에 대한 7가지 종속변수(함량, 함량 균일성, 경도, 마손도, 붕해, 용출(pH 1.2 및 6.8)를 design expert software를 사용하여 평가하였다. Design of experiments (DoE) 실험에서 도출된 Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) 결과를 통해 main compression은 경도, 마손도, 붕해 시간에 유의한 영향을 주었고, microcrystalline cellulose는 마손도, 용출에 주요한 영향을 주었음을 확인하였다. 또한, citric acid는 마손도, crospovidone은 마손도, 용출에 주요한 영향을 주었음을 확인하였다. DoE실험 결과를 종합하여 최종적으로 도출된 설계공간에 따라 microcrystalline cellulose (약 18.0-32.0 mg), citric acid (약 0.5-12.0 mg), main compression (약 615-837 kgf)의 최적의 범위 내에서 초기 위험평가에서 평가된 모든 위험요인이 제거된 carvedilol 속방층의 최적 제조 범위를 확인하였다.

Formulation and Evaluation of Sustained Release Preparation of Ibuprofen Fast-Disintegrating Tablet (FDT)

  • The objective of this study was to enhance the utilitization of Ibuprofen (IBU) by introducing the fast-disintegrating tablet (FDT) form. Presently, IBU is being widely used as a tablet or syrup form. But in contrast to these two formulations, IBU as FDT is not only convenient but also increases the control over the time release of the drug, noted by using Alginate beads. This study was carried out with Sodium Alginate and IBU at the ratios of 1:0, 1:0.5, 1:1, and 1:2 in order to produce a series of beads with different ratios. During the drying process of the beads, talc was added in beads to compare the effects with and without the talc. The final product was scanned with SEM imaging to determine the difference in the surface of the beads. The parameters assessed were the diameter, content assay, dissolution test and effectiveness of time-release. Direct compression method was used to prepare FDT containing IBU bead. The properties of FDT, such as hardness, disintegration time, were investigated. The dissolution profiles of FDT were tested using KP dissolution apparatus 1 (basket method). The results suggest addition of talc and drying the beads made the surface smooth and less vulnerable to clutter into chunks. The size of beads was less than 300 ${\mu}m$ which did not create a sandy feeling in the mouth. Thus, the beads formulation model made the sustained release of the drug possible, the hardness of FDT (1.25~1.50 $Kg/cm^2$) was acceptable and all the values of dissolving period were less than 30 seconds. The dissolution profile of FDT was same as that of IBU bead. The efficient dissolution profile and low price of IBU bead containing Sodium Alginate, the FDT formulation prepared from IBU bead can save the expenses and can improve the convenience of application of this drug.

  • Many of the industrialized countries since the 1970s have been experiencing the change in the industrial structure due to technological development, that is, from Fordism to post-Fordism, or to "flexible production system". Regional development has been undergoing some changes according to the different industrial production systems. During the Fordist mass production period, the manufacturing belt was the core region of the production system. As the system shifts to flexible production system of which characteristics are veritcal disintegration, emphasis for JIT(just-in-time) delivery system, part-time and short-time labor contracts, design-intensive industries, etc, the new system requires the new production core and has produced the new industrial spaces, such as Sunbelt cities, suburbs, small-or medium-sized cities, and non-metropolitan areas. In the perspective of global system, the Fordist production system made th NICs developed, because the mass production required many unskilled and low-wage workers. As the NICs exports of manufactured goods have incredibly expanded during the 1970s, the industrialized countries have become threatened. The industriablized countries have restructured their economies and international policies. Such restructures resulted in the economic depression of the NICs. The investment pattern of the industrialized countries has changed and particularly those industries adopting the Post-Fordism have invested from the NICs to the peripheral areas of their own countries or toward the underdeveloped countries which have much lower wage workers. The investment pattern of the NICs is also undergoing some changes like from metropolitian areas to small or non-metropolitan regions. The regional development since the post-Fordist production is still going on, thus it is not possible to generalize the tendency. That could be a particular phenomenon or a stage in the long-term cycle. But the regional development in the world system since 1980s definitely shows the different pattern.t pattern.

폐흡충에 대한 Praziquantel의 시험관내 작용에 관한 광학 및 연사전자현미경적 관찰 (In vitro dffect of praziquantel on Paragonimus westermani by light and scanning electron microscopic observation)

  • Praziquantel이 폐흡충에 미치는 영향을 광학 및 주사전자현미경으로 관찰하기 위하여 본 연구를 수행하였다. 가재에서 분리수집한 폐흡충의 피낭유충을 2마리의 개에 경구감염시키고 11주후에 도살하여 폐로부터 128마리의 성충을 회수하였다. Tyrode 용액에 prasiquantel을 0.01, 0.1, 1, 10, 1000mg/m1 농도로 희석하여 배양액으로 사용하였다. 배양액에 활발히 움직이는 충체를 8마리씩 넣고 $37^{\circ}C$에서 배양하면서 15분, 30분, 1시간, 6시간, 12시간, 26시간에 운동성 및 형태학적 변화를 해부현미경으로 관찰하였다. 또한 각 실험군의 충체를 광학 및 주사전자현미경 표본으로 제작하여 관찰하였다. Praziquantel에 작용된 충체는 즉시 수축하고 점차 이완되었으며 표피와 표피하층의 공포화, 소화관의 수축과 내강의 팍장, 소화관벽의 비후, 난소와 고환의 공포화 및 말단의 구형화, Mehlis선의 공 포화등이 관찰되었다. 주사전자현미경적 소견으로 소수포의 형성은 구흡반과 복흡반 사이의 표면에서 가장 먼저 관찰되었고 배양시간과 praziquantel의 농도가 증가합에 따라 전체표면으로 확산되었다. 고농도의 배양액에 배양한 충체의 측후방 표피에는 분화구모양의 손상이 관찰되었으며 점차 전체표피로 확산되었다. Praziquantel의 작용을 받은 폐흡충의 형태학적 변화는 표피뿐만 아니라 소화기관, 생식기관 기타 조직등 전부위에서도 일어나는 것이 관찰되었다. 특히 충체가 살아있는 농도에서도 생식기관이 파괴되어 산란에 지장을 초래할 것으로 예상된다. 이와같은 변화는 pragiquantel의 농도보다 배양시간에 보다 더 영향을 받는 것으로 보인다.

무인헬기용 Macrogranule(GG) 제초제의 안정성 및 살포방법 연구 (Studies on Application Method and Safety of Macrogranule(GG) Herbicide for Remote-controlled Aerial Application)

  • 무인헬기 살포로 논에 발생하는 잡초를 방제할 목적으로 macrogranule(GG) 제초제를 개발하였다. 약제 제조와 제조약제의 안정성, 살포방법에 따른 적용방법을 조사하였고, 제형별 살포소요시간 경제성을 분석한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 제조 GG의 입경(粒經)은 2.5~3mm 범위내에 85%이상을 차지하였고, 가비중은 $0.2\sim0.4g\;mL^{-1}$로 수면에서 부유성을 갖고 확산되는 입제고형물이었다. GG의 저장안정성은 $54{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ 항온기에서 2, 4, 6, 8주간 저장 후 halosulfuron-methyl을 HPLC로, mefenacet는 GC로 분석한 결과 유효성분 및 외형 변화가 없이 안정되어 있었다. GG의 수중붕괴성은 온도가 상승할수록 증가하였다. 또 담수 중 pH별 수중붕괴성은 담수 pH의 영향은 없었다. GG의 살포거리는 손살포, 도구살포 및 기계살포 등에서 각각 4~5m, 7m, 10~12m로 살포방법에 따라 달랐다. GG의 약효 및 작물안전성은 손살포, 도구살포, 기계살포 및 무인헬기살포에서 모두 우수하였다. 제형간 $4,000m^2$ 기준 손살포 소요시간은 GG, GR, SC, TB가 각각 38분 4초, 42분 20초, 38분 10초, 21분 4초였으나, 무인헬기 살포시 1분 32초를 나타냈다. 제형의 형태 및 특성상 무인헬기살포가 가능한 제형은 SC, GG였다.

흰쥐 좌골신경에 신경파괴제 주입 후 초래되는 하지 운동과 신경조직학적 변화 (Functional and Histopathological Changes Following Injection of Neurolytic Agents on Rat's Sciatic Nerve)

  • Background: This study was undertaken to observe the functional changes of the hind limb and histopathological changes in the sciatic nerve after an injection of alcohol or phenol, which are commonly used neurolytic agents, highlighting the time of recovery. Methods: Forty-eight Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 200-300 g were used for the experiment. Histopathological changes under the electron microscope, were observed in the distal part of the sciatic nerve, into which 0.1 ml of alcohol or phenol was injected. This was severed in 3 rats of each group at 10 minutes, 1 hour, 24 hours, 3 days, 1, 2, 4 and 6 weeks later. The functional changes in the hind limbs were observed for 6 weeks by noting their walking pattern. Results: Following the injection of alcohol or phenol into the right sciatic nerve, the right hind limb showed a severe pronounced motor weakness and obvious gait changes. About 2 weeks later, gradual improvement of gait changes began, and after 6 weeks, the motor weakness and gait changes were no longer perceptible in both groups. The findings of any histopathological change were similar in both alcohol or phenol groups. At 10 minutes after injection, destructive lesions were confined to the unmyelinated fibers and the myelin sheath of small the myelinated fibers. On the 3rd day and at 1 week, pathologic changes in axonal fibers and Schwann cells were in being phagocytized in spite of myelin restitution. From 2 to 4 weeks, axonal regeneration and remyelination appeared at the same time a myelin disintegration and axonolysis. At 6 weeks, neural regeneration was similar to that of the contralateral control group. Conclusions: These results suggest that functional and histopathological changes, after injection of neurolytics into the peripheral nerves, are quite similar in both alcohol and phenol groups. The progression of functional and histopathological changes become more obvious according to the time interval following the injection. Consequently, side effects that develop following the use of alcohol or phenol may begin to improve around the time that nerve regeneration occurs, i.e., two to four weeks later.

  • Experimental and analytical researches have been conducted on the twin-fluid atomizers for better droplet breakup during the past decades. But, the studies on the disintegration mechanism still present a great challenge to understand the drop behavior and breakup structure. In an effort to describe the aerodynamic behavior of the sprays issuing from the internal mixing counter-swirling nozzle, the spatial distribution of axial (U) radial (V) and tangential (W) components of droplet velocities are investigated across the radial distance at several axial locations of Z=30, 50, 80, 120 and 170mm, respectively. Experiments were conducted for the liquid flow rates which was kept constant at 7.95 g/s and the air injection pressures were varied from 20 kPa to 140 kPa. Counter-swirling internal mixing nozzles manufactured at angles of $15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ the central axis with axi-symmetric tangential-drilled holes was considered. The distributions of velocities and turbulence intensities are comparatively analyzed. PDPA is installed to specify spray flows, which have been conducted along the axial downstream distance from the nozzle exit. Ten thousand of sampling data was collected at each point with time limits of 30 second. 3-D automatic traversing system is used to control the exact measurement. It is observed that the sprays with all swirl angle have the maximum SMD for on air injection pressure of 20 kPa and 140 kPa with centerline, respectively. The nozzle with swirl angle of $60^{\circ}$ has vest performance.

Mechanical Alloying에 의한 비정질 Ti40Cu40Ni10Al10 합금의 형성 및 열적특성 (Formation and Thermal Properties of Amorphous Ti40Cu40Ni10Al10 Alloy by Mechanical Alloying)

  • The amorphization process and the thermal properties of amorphous Ti$_{40}$Cu$_{40}$Ni$_{10}$Al$_{10}$ powder during milling by mechanical alloying were examined by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The chemical composition of the samples was examined by an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX) facility attached to the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The as-milled powders showed a broad peak (2$\theta$ = 42.4$^{\circ}$) with crystalline size of about 5.0 nm in the XRD patterns. The entire milling process could be divided into three different stages: agglomeration (0 < t$_m$ $\leq$ 3 h), disintegration (3 h < t$_m$ $\leq$ 20 h), and homogenization (20 h < t$_m$ $\leq$ 40 h) (t$_m$: milling time). In the DSC experiment, the peak temperature T$_p$ and crystallization temperature T$_x$ were 466.9$^{\circ}C$ and 444.3$^{\circ}C$, respectively, and the values of T$_p$, and T$_x$ increased with a heating rate (HR). The activation energies of crystallization for the as-milled powder was 291.5 kJ/mol for T$_p$.
