The author introduces the preventive and therapeutic methods of diseases in Japanese flounder which have been conducted by the Fish Disease Laboratory, the Mikamewan Fishery Cooperative Union, Ehime Prefecture, since 1982. Prevention 1. Addition of a sand substrate in the culture pond was effective to prevent ulcer disease. 2. Bathing in 0.5ppm of copper ion was effective to prevent some parasites. 3. Low stocking density of the fish reduced an incidence of edwardsiellosis or gliding bacterial disease. 4. Removal of the diseased fish prevented thd spread of lyphoeystis. 5. So-called $\pi$-water was effective to prevent the fry from some diseases. 6. Immersion of the juvenile in a sodium nifrusylate solution during transportation was effective to prevent gliding bacterial disease. Therapy 1. Sodium nifrustylate or oxytetracycline was effective to cure gliding bacterial disease. 2. Bathing in formalin(150ppm) or freshwater was effective to cure scuticociliatidosis. 3. Erythromycin was effective to cure $\beta$-hemolytic Streptococcus sp. infection. 4. Bathing in a hydrogen peroxide solution(1.5%) was effective to cure white spot disease.
If animal disease, i.e., livestock foot-and-mouth disease, avian influenza, brings out, animals have to be disposed to prevent the virus spreading. Mainly, animals have been disposed by carcass disposal. However, If not done properly, carcass disposal can lead to environmental problems, i.e., soil and ground water pollution, etc. Therefore, various disposal methods, i.e., rendering, cremation, etc., have to be considered with burial. Also, various supplement policies are needed to prevent the animal disease. The purpose of this study was to find effective solutions for the prevention and biosecurity of animal disease.
The usage and types of chemicals being developed, with diversified new exposure of workers, are of natural concern to occupational disease. In Korea, with industrialization, application of many chemicals has increased. A large proportion of mortality and disease is due to cancer, and the causal hazardous agents include chemical agents, like heavy metals and so on. Due to the long latency period with malignancies and the fact they are usually found after workers' retirement, it is suggested that management policies must be established to prevent occupational cancers occurring among workers in Korea. To give a general description about the efforts to prevent the occupational cancer with exposure to chemicals, articles on the trends of occupational cancers were reviewed and summarized with related research and efforts for prevention in Korea. It is important to improve the understanding of occupational cancer and help to maintain sustainable and appropriate measures to guarantee workers safety and health.
Previous infant feeding guidelines recommended a delayed introduction of solids to beyond 6 months of age to prevent atopic diseases. However, scientific evidence supporting a delayed introduction of solids for prevention of atopic diseases is scarce and inconsistent. Current evidence does not support a major role for maternal dietary restrictions during pregnancy or lactation in the prevention of atopic disease. In studies of infants at high risk of developing atopic disease, there is evidence that exclusive breastfeeding for at least 4 months compared with feeding intact cow milk protein decreases the incidence of atopic dermatitis, cow milk allergy, and wheezing in early childhood. For infants at high risk of developing atopic disease who are not breastfed exclusively for 4 to 6 months, there is modest evidence that atopic dermatitis may be delayed or prevented by the use of extensively or partially hydrolyzed formulas, compared with cow milk formula, in early childhood. There is no convincing evidence that a delayed introduction of solid foods beyond 4 to 6 months of age prevents the development of atopic disease. For infants after 4 to 6 months of age, there are insufficient data to support a protective effect of any dietary intervention for the development of atopic disease.

Background: This study examined age-group differences in the rate, severity, and cost of injuries among construction workers to support evidence-based worker safety and health interventions in the construction industry. Methods: Ohio workers' compensation claims for construction workers were used to estimate claim rates and costs by age group. We analyzed claims data auto-coded into five event/exposure categories: transportation incidents; slips, trips, and falls (STFs); exposure to harmful substances and environments; contact with objects and equipment (COB); overexertion and bodily reaction. American Community Survey data were used to determine the percentage of workers in each age group. Results: From 2007-2017, among 72,416 accepted injury claims for ~166,000 construction full-time equivalent (FTE) per year, nearly half were caused by COB, followed by STFs (20%) and overexertion (20%). Claim rates related to COB and exposure to harmful substances and environments were highest among those 18-24 years old, with claim rates of 313.5 and 25.9 per 10,000 FTE, respectively. STFs increased with age, with the highest claim rates for those 55-64 years old (94.2 claims per 10,000 FTE). Overexertion claim rates increased and then declined with age, with the highest claim rate for those 35-44 years old (87.3 per 10,000 FTE). While younger workers had higher injury rates, older workers had higher proportions of lost-time claims and higher costs per claim. The total cost per FTE was highest for those 45-54 years old ($1,122 per FTE). Conclusion: The variation in rates of injury types by age suggests that age-specific prevention strategies may be useful.

Objectives: To investigate the association between psychological distress and obesity among law enforcement officers (LEOs) in the United States. Methods: Self-reported data on psychological distress based on six key questions were obtained from LEOs who participated in the National Health Interview Survey (2004-2010). We used Prochaska's cut-point of a Kessler 6 score ${\geq}5$ for moderate/high mental distress in our analysis. Mean levels of body mass index (BMI) were compared across three levels of psychological distress. Results: The average age of LEOs (n = 929) was 39.3 years; 25% were female. Overall, 8.1% of LEOs had moderate or high psychological distress; 37.5% were obese (BMI ${\geq}30$). Mean BMI increased with increasing psychological distress (no distress, BMI = $27.2kg/m^2$; mild distress, $27.6kg/m^2$; and moderate/high distress, $33.1kg/m^2$; p = 0.016) after adjustment for age, race, income, and education level among female officers only. Physical activity modified the association between psychological distress and BMI but only among male LEOs (interaction p = 0.002). Among male LEOs reporting low physical activity, psychological distress was positively associated with BMI ($30.3kg/m^2$ for no distress, 30.7 for mild distress, 31.8 for moderate/high distress; p = 0.179) after adjustment, but not significantly. This association was not significant among males reporting high physical activity. Conclusion: Mean BMI significantly increased as psychological distress increased among female LEOs. A longitudinal study design may reveal the directionality of this association as well as the potential role that physical activity might play in this association.

There are various bioactive compounds in vegetables which are called 'phytochemicals' They are extranutritional constituents that typically occur in small quantities. They are being intensively studied to evaluate their effects on health. These biologically active compounds vary widely in chemical structure and function and are grouped accordingly, carotenoids, flavonoids, isothiocyanates, allyl compounds, indoles, isoflavones and saponins, etc. Traditionally used vegetables are defined, and their trivial names, biological functions and traditional and oriental medicinal effects are investigated in this study. Much scientific research needs to be conducted before we can begin to make science-based dietary recommendations. Despite this, there is sufficient evidence to recommend consuming vegetables rich in bioactive compounds, especially for the prevention of cancer.
