  • This paper considers (S -1, S) inventory models which have wide applications in reparable spare parts inventory systems and multi-echelon systems. We assume a discrete compounds Poisson demand and order size dependent delivery times ; when the replenishment order size is n, we assume the delivery time distribution is arbitrary with finite mean $b_{n}$ . On the basis of the fact the outstanding orders follow a certain queueing process, we introduce the results of Fakinos (1982). We develop the efficient recursive formulae to find the optimal $S^{*}$ under several performance measures as a function of the decision variable S. The results of this paper can be applied to the multi-echelon systems such as MEETRIC.C.

  • This paper presents a method in order to calculate the vortex distribution, the streak-line and the time-line around the flat and the cambered otter board in two dimensional flow using the discrete vortex method, and to calculate C sub(L) and C sub(D) of the otter boards varied with the passage of time by the numerical simulation using the Blasu's formula. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Flow pattern around the otter boards calculated by the discrete vortex method was resembled closely that of the visualized photograph. 2. C sub(L) and C sub(D) calculated by the numerical simulation was very similar to the model test. 3. The circulation direction around the otter boards and the action direction of the shearing force can be recognized from the time-line around the otter boards. 4. Flow speed in the back side of the otter boards was faster than that in the front side, and the difference of the flow speed in both side of the cambered otter boards was about 1.3 times greater than that of the flat otter boards. 5. The clockwise vortex was generated in the trailing edge, and the counter-clockwise vortex was generated the leading edge of the otter boards. And they were shown the shape of Karman's vortex varied with the passage of time.

  • This paper presents an application of the parallel Adaptive Evolutionary Algorithm (AEA) to search an optimal solution of a reconfiguration in distribution systems. The aim of the reconfiguration is to determine the appropriate switch position to be opened for loss minimization in radial distribution systems, which is a discrete optimization problem. This problem has many constraints and it is very difficult to find the optimal switch position because of its numerous local minima. In this investigation, a parallel AEA was developed for the reconfiguration of the distribution system. In parallel AEA, a genetic algorithm (GA) and an evolution strategy (ES) in an adaptive manner are used in order to combine the merits of two different evolutionary algorithms: the global search capability of GA and the local search capability of ES. In the reproduction procedure, proportions of the population by GA and ES are adaptively modulated according to the fitness. After AEA operations, the best solutions of AEA processors are transferred to the neighboring processors. For parallel computing, a PC-cluster system consisting of 8 PCs·was developed. Each PC employs the 2 GHz Pentium IV CPU, and is connected with others through switch based fast Ethernet. The new developed algorithm has been tested and is compared to distribution systems in the reference paper to verify the usefulness of the proposed method. From the simulation results, it is found that the proposed algorithm is efficient and robust for distribution system reconfiguration in terms of the solution quality, speedup, efficiency, and computation time.

  • This paper presents an application of the parallel Adaptive Evolutionary Algorithm (AEA) to search an optimal solution of the service restoration in electric power distribution systems, which is a discrete optimization problem. The main objective of service restoration is, when a fault or overload occurs, to restore as much load as possible by transferring the de-energized load in the out of service area via network reconfiguration to the appropriate adjacent feeders at minimum operational cost without violating operating constraints. This problem has many constraints and it is very difficult to find the optimal solution because of its numerous local minima. In this investigation, a parallel AEA was developed for the service restoration of the distribution systems. In parallel AEA, a genetic algorithm (GA) and an evolution strategy (ES) in an adaptive manner are used in order to combine the merits of two different evolutionary algorithms: the global search capability of the GA and the local search capability of the ES. In the reproduction procedure, proportions of the population by GA and ES are adaptively modulated according to the fitness. After AEA operations, the best solutions of AEA processors are transferred to the neighboring processors. For parallel computing, a PC cluster system consisting of 8 PCs was developed. Each PC employs the 2 GHz Pentium IV CPU and is connected with others through switch based fast Ethernet. To show the validity of the proposed method, the developed algorithm has been tested with a practical distribution system in Korea. From the simulation results, the proposed method found the optimal service restoration strategy. The obtained results were the same as that of the explicit exhaustive search method. Also, it is found that the proposed algorithm is efficient and robust for service restoration of distribution systems in terms of solution quality, speedup, efficiency, and computation time.

  • In this paper, we proposed using MFCC coefficients(Mel-Scaled Cepstral Coefficients) and a simple but efficient classifying method. Many other features: IAV, zero crossing, LPCC, $\ldot$ and their derivatives are also tested and compared with MFCC coefficients in order to find the best combination. GMM and HMM (Discrete and Continuous Hidden Markov Model), are studied as well in the hope that the use of continuous distribution and the temporal evolution of this set of features will improve the quality of emotion recognition.

  • The present paper proposes a sliding mode control with fixed switching frequency for three-phase three-leg voltage source inverter based four-wire shunt active power filter. The aim is to improve phase current waveform, neutral current mitigation, and reactive power compensation in electric power distribution system. The performed sliding mode for active filter current control is formulated using elementary differential geometry. The discrete control vector is deduced from the sliding surface accessibility using the Lyapunov stability. The problem of the switching frequency is addressed by considering hysteresis comparators for the switched signals generation. Through this method, a variable hysteresis band has been established as a function of the sliding mode equivalent control and a predefined switching frequency in order to keep this band constant. The proposed control has been verified with computer simulation which showed satisfactory results.

  • In this paper, we present a comprehensive analytical study of the symbol error rate (SER) of single-carrier frequency-division multiple access (SC-FDMA) with zero-forcing frequency domain equalization (ZF-FDE) over a Rayleigh fading channel. SC-FDMA is considered as a potential waveform candidate for fifth-generation (5G) radio access networks (RANs). First, the $N_C$ fold convolution of the noise distribution of an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) system is computed for each value of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in order to determine the noise distribution of the SC-FDMA system. $N_C$ is the number of subcarriers assigned to a user or the size of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) precoding. Here, we present a simple alternative method of calculating the SER by simplifying the $N_C$ fold convolution using time and amplitude scaling properties. The effects of the $N_C$ fold convolution and SNR over the computation of the SER of the SC-FDMA system has been separated out. As a result, the proposed approach only requires the computation of the $N_C$ fold convolution once, and it is used for different values of SNR to calculate the SER of SC-FDMA systems.

  • 3-dimensional numerical analysis for a rectangular magnetron cathode model is done to predict cooling characteristics of high power sputtering system for ZnO deposition. It includes cooling channel design, heat transfer analysis of a target, bonding layer and backing plate. In order to model erosion profiles of a target, ion current density distribution from 3D Monte Carlo simulation is used to distribute total sputtering power to 5 discrete regions. At 3 kW of sputtering power and cooling water flow of 1 liter/min at $10^{\circ}C$, the maximum surface temperature was $45.8^{\circ}C$ for a flat new target and $156^{\circ}C$ for a target eroded by 1/3 of its thickness, respectively.

  • The compression of CAD models is a key technology for realizing Internet-based collaborative product development because big model sizes often prohibit us to achieve a rapid product information transmission. Although there exist some algorithms for compressing discrete CAD models, original precise CAD models are focused on in this paper. Here, the characteristics of hierarchical structures in CAD models and the distribution of their redundant data are exploited for developing a novel data encoding method. In the method, different encoding rules are applied to different types of data. Geometric data is a major concern for reducing model sizes. For geometric data, the control points of B-spline curves and surfaces are compressed with the second-order predictions in a local coordinate system. Based on analysis to the distortion induced by quantization, an efficient method for computation of the distortion is provided. The results indicate that the data size of CAD models can be decreased efficiently after compressed with the proposed method.

  • Wall wetting in diesel engines has been considered as a bad phenomenon because of fuel deposition which makes fuel/air mixing and evaporation worse. In order to avoid the problem, many research works have been carried out. One of the studies is on new combustion chamber systems which are using spray impacting on a wall. In this study a new type of chamber system is analysed using wall impaction model introduced and assessed in the coupled paper. The gas phase is modelled in terms of the Eulerian continuum conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and fuel vapour fraction, The liquid phase is modelled following the discrete droplet model approach in Lagrangian form. With various conditions the spray distribution, vapor contour and gas flows are analyzed, and then design factors of those combustion systems are recommended.
