Priority Assignment Procedure in Multi-Product Disassembly

  • This paper investigates the design of a priority rule in a multi-product disassembly environment. Specifically, it is concerned with product scheduling by which the inventory control of disassembled parts can be incorporated into a priority rule to reduce part lead times. The part lead time consists of two components: flow time and supply delay. The primary focus of the paper is on the development of a disassembly priority rule that aims to reduce the supply delay. We propose a priority rule, called Minimum Distance (MD) rule, to improve the supply delay performance. Finally, we provide a comparative analysis on the performance of traditional rules and the new rule proposed in this paper via a simulation model.

  • In order to improve the recyclability and to reduce the recycling cost and time, the disassembly technology should be systemized because the worn out products can be reused or recycled after disassembly processes. This paper attempts to propose the integrated CATIA-based DfD (Design for Disassembly) support system to promote the disassemblability of products. The system is composed of two modules; evaluation of disassemblability, generation of DfD alternatives. The disassemblability of current vehicle is evaluated to identify the weak point in terms of disassembly using the DELMIA and developed evaluation system. Furthermore a new expert system is developed to propose the optimal redesign rule and principle for generating the DfD alternatives. In order to generate the DfD alternatives, a CATIA-based design support system is implemented. The system can provide quick results and ensure consistency and completeness of the redesign alternatives.

  • This paper proposes a design methodology for customer, assembly and disassembly considering recycling. The disign process starts with the identification of customer needs, which are in turn converted into functional requirements. The concepts of Design for Customer(DFC), Design for Assembly(DFA), Design for Variety(DFV) and Design for Disassembly(DFD) are considered in the product design phases in order to decreas production variety and mass customization. And, a new module generation approach is developed for rearranging and clustering parts and subassemblies for disassembly and recycling. Based on the result of the module generation, a new configuration methodology is suggested to minimize the disassembly time or number of disassembly operations for recycling.

A Two-Stage Heuristic for Disassembly Scheduling with Capacity Constraints

  • Disassembly scheduling is the problem of determining the quantity and timing of disassembling used or end-of-life products while satisfying the demand of their parts and/or components over a planning horizon. The case of assembly product structure is considered while the resource capacity constraints are explicitly considered. A cost-based objective is considered that minimizes the sum of disassembly operation and inventory holding costs. The problem is formulated as an integer programming model, and a two-stage heuristic with construction and improvement algorithms is suggested in this paper. To test the performance of the heuristic, computational experiments are done on randomly generated problems, and the results show that the heuristic gives near optimal solutions within a very short amount of computation time.

  • Many industrial products can be assembled in various sequences of assembly operations. To save time and cost in assembly process and to increase the quality of products, it is very important to choose an optimal assembly sequence. In this paper, we propose a methodology that generates an optimal assembly sequence by using the knowledge of experts. First, a product is divided into several sub-assemblies. Next, the disassembly sequences of sub-assembly are generated using disassembly rules and special information can be extracted through the disassembly process. By combining every assembly sequence of sub-assemblies, we can generate all the possible assembly sequences of a product. Finally, the expert system evaluates all the possible assembly sequences and finds an optimal assembly sequence. It can be achieved under consideration of the parameters such as assembly operation, tool change, safety of part. basepart location, setup change, distance, and orientation. The developed system is applied to UBR(Unit Bath Room) example.

휴대폰부품의 재사용률 극대화를 위한 설계 지침 개발 (Development of the Design Guideline to Increase the Reusing Rate of Cellular Phone Parts)

  • Reusing is one of the most environmentally friendly recycling methods. For the economical remanufacturing of used cellular phone, the cellular phones should be design for easy disassembly. In this paper, we analyzed the components and connecting elements of cellular phones and developed a guideline for the design of the cellular phones. A software for the disassembly assessment was also developed. Redesigned cellular phone by the developed guideline and its original phone was analyzed by the disassembly assessment software. Disassembly time could be reduced about 40% and reusing rate could be improved about 37%.

  • Due to increasing awareness on the treatment of end-of-use/life products, disassembly has been a fast-growing research area of interest for many researchers over recent decades. This paper introduces a novel lot-sizing problem that has not been studied in the literature, which is the service-parts lot-sizing with disassembly option. The disassembly option implies that the demands of service parts can be fulfilled by newly manufactured parts, but also by disassembled parts. The disassembled parts are the ones recovered after the disassembly of end-of-use/life products. The objective of the considered problem is to maximize the total profit, i.e., the revenue of selling the service parts minus the total cost of the fixed setup, production, disassembly, inventory holding, and disposal over a planning horizon. This paper proves that the single-period version of the considered problem is NP-hard and suggests a heuristic by combining a simulated annealing algorithm and a linear-programming relaxation. Computational experiment results show that the heuristic generates near-optimal solutions within reasonable computation time, which implies that the heuristic is a viable optimization tool for the service parts inventory management. In addition, sensitivity analyses indicate that deciding an appropriate price of disassembled parts and an appropriate collection amount of EOLs are very important for sustainable service parts systems.

The case of single product type with assembly structure is considered for the objective of minimizing the sum of disassembly operation and inventory holding costs. In particular, the resource capacity constraint is explicitly considered. The problem is formulated as an integer programming model, and a two-stage heuristic with construction and improvement algorithms is suggested in this paper. To show the performance of the heuristic, computational experiments are done on a number of randomly generated problems, and the test results show that the algorithm can give near optimal solutions within a very short amount of computation time.

  • This paper suggests a specific model that could efficiently improve the interaction and the interface between MES(Manufacturing Execution System) server and POP(Point of Production) terminal through electronic document server and electronic pen, bluetooth receiver and form paper in disassembly and process inspection works. The proposed model shows that the new method by electronic document automation system can more efficiently perform to reduce processing time for maintenance work, compared with the current approach by handwritten processing system. It is noted in case of the method by electronic document automation system that the effects of proposed model are as follows; (a) While the processing time per equipment for maintenance by the current method was 300 minutes, the processing time by the new method was 50 minutes. (b) While the processing error ratio by the current method was 20%, the error ratio by the new method was 1%.
