베지어 곡선을 이용한 로봇 축구 항법의 개선 (An Improvement of Navigation in Robot Soccer using Bezier Curve)

  • This paper suggests a new method for making a navigation path by using Bezier curve in order to improve the navigation performance used to avoid obstacles during a robot soccer game. We analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of both vector-field and limit-cycle navigation methods, which are the mostly widely used navigation methods for avoiding obstacles. To improve the disadvantages of these methods, we propose a new design technique for generating a more proper path using Bezier curve and describe its advantages. Using computer simulations and experiments, we compare the performance of vector-field navigation with that of Bezier curve navigation. The results prove that the navigation performance using Bezier curve is relatively superior to the other method.

  • Many rheocasting processes had been proposed because of the difficulty of recycling, the limit of material, and the high cost of raw material in thixocasting. But, these rheocasting processes also had disadvantages such as the high initial Investment cost and the lower mechanical properties than thixocasting. In this study, a continuous fabrication of rheological material with pressure rotation equipment was newly devised to overcome the disadvantages of rheocasting process. In order to investigate the thixoformability, reheating experiments were carried out with the material fabricated by the newly devised equipment. Morphological characteristics between mechanical stirring and reheating were compared.

반도체 탄소 나노재료 기반 상온 동작용 가스센서 (Sensing performances of Semiconducting Carbon Nanomaterials based Gas Sensors Operating at Room Temperature)

  • Semiconducting carbon-based nanomaterials including single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs), multi-walled CNT(MWCNTs), graphene(GR), graphene oxide(GO), and reduced graphene oxide(RGO), are very promising sensing materials due to their large surface area, high conductivity, and ability to operate at room temperature. Despite of these advantages, the semiconducting carbon-based nanomaterials intrinsically possess crucial disadvantages compared with semiconducting metal oxide nanomaterials, such as relatively low gas response, irreversible recovery, and poor selectivity. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce a variety of strategies to overcome these disadvantages and investigate principle parameters to improve gas sensing performances.

A Study on the Modeling of Transient Response in Automated Manual Transmission for Hybrid Trucks

  • Modern transmission technologies such as automated manual transmission(AMT) and dual clutch transmission(DCT) are interested to all manufactures due to their fuel efficiency and driver's convenience, especially in a hybrid system. AMT has advantages in that they have a high efficiency of manual transmissions(MT) and offer operation convenience similar to automatic transmissions(AT), but it has some disadvantages in that they have torque gap during gear shift and shift time. To reduce disadvantages, it is necessary to evaluate errors and characteristics as a developing simulation model before experimental verification. The purpose of this study is to develop virtual components and simulate the transient response of AMT. A dynamic AMT model and a control logic for an integrated vehicle model have been developed using Matlab/Simulink as a simulation platform. In this paper, the clutch model to describe the stick-slip transition mode and the transmission model to describe the neutral gear shifting is introduced and compared with each other.

CMC in English Language Learning: Gains and Losses

  • This paper aims to address the gains and losses of the CMC environment in Language learning. Data were attained from twelve middle school ESL students who took English as a second language class and twelve pre-service teachers taking ESL foundation course. This exploration describes the role of CMC focusing on its' advantages and disadvantages which language teachers need to consider. The findings revealed that the teachers, tasks, and other elements involved in the CMC environment provided several gains and losses for many areas of learning. This implies that CMC alone does not provide an optimal learning environment, but rather it is used as an essential tool in providing opportunities to enhance language learning. Several suggestions are made for teachers and pre-service teacher education how CMC instruction might be better designed. The paper concludes with some practical considerations for future research in the area of CMC.

Korean Coreference Resolution with Guided Mention Pair Model Using Deep Learning

  • The general method of machine learning has encountered disadvantages in terms of the significant amount of time and effort required for feature extraction and engineering in natural language processing. However, in recent years, these disadvantages have been solved using deep learning. In this paper, we propose a mention pair (MP) model using deep learning, and a system that combines both rule-based and deep learning-based systems using a guided MP as a coreference resolution, which is an information extraction technique. Our experiment results confirm that the proposed deep-learning based coreference resolution system achieves a better level of performance than rule- and statistics-based systems applied separately

  • The analysis of current distribution in a solidly modeled coil is very important for accurate of electric machines such as deflection yoke. In general, Modeling every coils is nearly impossible for analyzing magnetic field using the 3-D finite element method, so solidly modeled coil is usually used. Some methods have been developed for analyzing current distribution, but these methods have fatal disadvantages. The main disadvantages are that the methods cannot be applied to an arbitrary shaped coil and that they yield numerical errors. In this paper, a novel method for resolving the problems mentioned above is proposed. The new method is verified by the application to a test model and it shows a very accurate result.

  • Brushless DC Motors are widely used because of their high power ratio and easy control. But the brushless DC Motors need rotor Position- and speed- sensor such as encoder, resolver and hall sensor. The position sensor has present several disadvantages from the standpoint of drive cost, machine size and reliability. Hall sensors are used generally because of low cost but their operating temperature is limited up to $75^{\circ}C$ because of sensitivity of temperature. Now a day many research projects are on the development of sensorless brushless DC motors to correct these disadvantages. In this paper, characteristics such as starting, change of speed and load of a sensorless brushless DC motor are investigated.

  • Recently, exposed concrete designs have been placed everywhere due to increased interest in indoor residential environments. In addition, in order to overcome the disadvantages of litracon, which was developed by mixing optical fiber, LEFC(Light Emotion Friendly Concrete) was developed in Korea, which improved unit price and constructivity by inserting hard acrylic rods. LEFC, using foaming agent and lightweight aggregate for light weighting, has disadvantages that decrease mechanical properties, and thus improved mechanical properties by using ultra-high performance concrete. Also, due to the characteristics of UHPC materials, it showed excellent self-consolidating performance. Considering these characteristics, a LEFC mold with pattern design was developed. The LEFC blocks were built so that pattern shapes could be seen and these were applied on-site to Sewoon plaza, located in Seoul.

The Logic of Vertical Density: Tall Buildings in the 21st Century City

  • This paper attempts to summarize recent debates on tall buildings. It first explains the driving forces of constructing tall buildings including population increase, rural-to-urban migration, demographic change, agglomeration, and human aspiration. Next, it discusses disadvantages and challenging factors that are frequently raised in making a case against tall buildings including economics, environmental factors, historic context, public safety, and psychological issues. The paper concludes by affirming that tall buildings will persist in the $21^{st}$ century due to strong commitment to urban sustainability and significant population increase worldwide.
