A Rigorous 2D Approximation Technique for 3D Waveguide Structures for BPM Calculations

  • We propose a rigorous 2D approximation technique for the 3D waveguide structures; it can minimize the well-known approximation errors of the commonly used effective index method. The main concept of the proposed technique is to compensate for the effective cladding index in the equivalent slab model of the original channel waveguide from the modal effective index calculated by the nonuniform 2D finite difference method. With simulations, we used the proposed technique to calculate the coupling characteristics of a directional coupler by the 2D beam propagation method, and the results were almost exactly the same as the results calculated by the 3D beam propagation method.

An Edge Profile Adaptive Bi-directional Diffusion Interpolation

  • In this paper, we propose an edge profile adaptive bi-directional diffusion interpolation method which consists of shock filter and level set. In recent years many interpolation methods have been proposed but all methods have some degrees of artifacts such as blurring and jaggies. To solve these problems, we adaptively apply shock filter and level set method where shock filter enhances edge along the normal direction and level set method removes jaggies artifact along the tangent direction. After the initial interpolation, weights of shock filter and level set are locally adjusted according to the edge profile. By adaptive coupling shock filter with level set method, the proposed method can remove jaggies artifact and enhance the edge. Experimental results show that the average PSNR and MSSIM of our method are increased, and contour smoothness and edge sharpness are also improved.

  • The overall aim of this paper is to determine coupling loss factor of welding point between shell and cylinder using loss factor and structural loss factor. For this purpose, two kinds of loss factor were adopted. One is loss factor of each sub structure, another is structural loss factor based on the complex welded or assembled structure. Using these two parameters, it is possible to derive the coupling loss factor which represents characteristic condition of SEA theory. Coupling loss factor of conjunction in complex structure was expressed as power balance equation. The derived equation for a coupling loss factor has been simplified on the assumption of one way (uni-directional) power flow between multi-sub structures. Using these conditions, it is possible to find the equation of coupling loss factor expressed as above two loss factors. To check the effectiveness of above equation, this paper used two-stage application. The first approach was application between simple cylinder and shell. The next was adopted rotary compressor. Rotary compressor has three main conjunctions between shell and internal vibration part. This equation was applied to find out the optimum welding point with respect to reduce the noise propagation. It shows the effective tool to evaluate the coupling loss factor in complex structure.

  • Equations of motion of thin-walled composite H-type cross-section beams incorporating a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear and primary and secondary warping, and anisotropy of constituent materials are derived. The vibrational characteristics of a composite thin-walled beam exhibiting the circumferentially asymmetric stiffness system(CAS) and the circumferentially uniform stiffness system(CUS) are exploited in connection with the bending-transverse shear coupling and the bending-twist coupling resulting from directional properties of fiber reinforced composite materials.

  • A coupler is a microwave passive component used for power coupling or dividing. Regarding the trend of current telecommunication systems it is highly desirable for monolithic integration of passive components as such LTCC(Low temperature cofired ceramics) technology offers potential advantage in size, cost and performance. Utilizing LTCC technology a 2012 size type dual band coupler for DCS and EGSM band was fabricated.   • We analyzed the excitation coefficients and the extinction ratio as a function of waveguide width, center to center distance, and angle of input waveguide for a directional coupler. The variation of thc difference between excitation coefficients is similar to that of the extinction ratio. Also, the smaller the difference between those is, the better the extinction ratio is. This concept will have application to devices using optical coupling.

  • A design procedure using spatial Fourier transform is presented for a structural-acoustic coupled radiator that can emit sound in the desired direction with high power and low side lobe level. The design procedure consists of three steps. Firstly, the structural-acoustic coupled radiator is chosen to obtain strong coupling between structural vibration and acoustic pressure. The radiator is composed by two spaces which are separated by a wall. Spaces can be categorized as reverberant finite space and unbounded semi-infinite space, and the wall are composed of two plates and an opening. The velocities on the wall are predicted. Secondly, directivity and energy distribution of radiator are predicted in wave number domain using spatial Fourier transform. Finally, optimal design variables are calculated using a dual optimal algorithm. Its computational example is presented including the directivity and resulting pressure distribution using proposed procedure.

  • An application determination of the dominant-mode fields in ridge waveguides at all frequencies has been made. Evaluations of the fields along the walls of a commercially standard single-ridge guide having a usable frequency range from 3.75 to 15.0 Gc, This paper presented the analysis of the mode directive coupling characteristics of two ridge waveguide using mode matching techniques for TE10 mode.

  • 수직 방향성결합기 구조에서 결합파장 및 결합분포를 달리하는 결합기 4개를 포함하는 헙대역 파장역다중기를 제안하고 동작특성을 모의실험 하였다. 너비가 다른 네 개의 ridge 광도파로를 동일한 strip상에 집적하여 수직결합시킴으로써 각각의 ridge 광도파로가 개별 파장여과기로 동작한다. 각 채널에서 발생하는 부엽(side-lobe)을 억제하기 위해 두 광도파로 간의 결합계수를 광파 진행방항으로 변화시켰다. 모의실험 결과 1.55 ㎛ 중심파장 대역에서 채널간격은 7 nm 이고 각 채널은 1.7 nm의 3-dB 통과대역폭, 20dB의 부엽억제비 및 약 90%의 광전력 전달효율을 보이면서 각 채널이 균일한 광여과 응답특성을 나타냄을 알 수 있었다.

  • 전력 결합기 및 전력 배분기는 마이크로파 수동 소자의 일종으로 전력을 결합하거나 나눌 때 쓰이는 것이다. 최근의 정보통신 시스템의 추세를 보아 수동 소자의 집적화 및 소형화가 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 추세를 감안하여 2012 크기의 다층 구조를 적용한 양대역 방향성 결합기를 저온 동시소성 기술을 활용하여 제작하였다. DCS(Digital communication system)와 EGSM(European global system for mobile) 대역에서 각기 원하는 커플링을 얻기 위해서 수직 결합 패턴들을 다층 구조에 적용하였다. 제작된 방향성 결합기의 결합성, 삽입 손실, 격리성 및 방향성 등의 특성들을 측정하였고 시뮬레이션 결과들과 비교 고찰하였다.
