  • This paper presents a non-contact measurement method of vital signal by the use of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) bio-radar system, configured with two antennas that are separated by a certain distance. The direction of arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm for coherent sources was applied to detect vital signals coming from different spatial angles. The proposed MIMO bio-radar system was composed of two identical transceivers sharing single VCO with a PLL. In order to verify the performance of the system, the DOA estimation experiment was completed with respect to the human target at angles varying between $-50^{\circ}$ and $50^{\circ}$ where the bio-radar system was placed at distances (corresponding to 50 cm and 95 cm) in front of a human target. The proposed MIMO bio-radar system can successfully find the direction of a human target.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate arrival direction effects of travelling waves on non-linear seismic response of arch dams. It is evident that the seismic waves may reach on the dam site from any direction. Therefore, this study considers the seismic waves arrive to the dam site with different angles, ${\theta}=0^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $75^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ for non-linear analysis of arch dam-water-foundation interaction system. The N-S, E-W and vertical component of the Erzincan earthquake, on March 13, 1992, is used as the ground motion. Dam-water-foundation interaction is defined by Lagrangian approach in which a step-by-step integration technique is employed. The stress-strain behavior of the dam concrete is idealized using three-dimensional Drucker-Prager model based on associated flow rule assumption. The program NONSAP is employed in response calculations. The time-history of crest displacements and stresses of the dam are presented. The results obtained from non-linear analyses are compared with that of linear analyses.

  • In this paper, we are comparative analysis both class method and proposal method in order to estimation of incident signal direction on uniform array antenna system. Proposal method of this paper decrease error probability for a signal direction of arrival estimation using maximum posterior probability estimator. If it decrease to signal estimation direction error probability, signal direction of arrival can correctly estimate. Through simulation, we were comparative analysis proposed method and class method. Also, we were comparative analysis about signal estimation error probability with increasing array antenna element. We show the superior performance of the proposed method relative to the class method to decrease of signal estimation error probability about 12%.

  • This paper presents a fast Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) estimation for sound source localization. TDOA is the time difference between the arrival times of a signal at two sensors. We propose a partial cross correlation method to increase the speed of TDOA estimation for sound source localization. We do this by predicting which part of the cross correlation function contains the required TDOA value with the help of the signal energies, and then we compute the cross correlation function in that direction only. Experiments show approximately 50% reduction in the cross correlation computation time thereby increasing the speed of TDOA computation. This makes it very relevant for real world surveillance.

  • Many high-resolution algorithms based on the eigen-decomposition analysis of observed covariance matrix, such as MVE, MUSIC, and EVM, have been proposed. However, the resolution of spectral estimates for these algorithms is severely degraded when Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) is low and arrival angles of signal are close to each other. And EVM and MUSIC is powerful for the characteristic of SNR. But have the limitation that the number of signals presented is known. While MVE is bad the characteristic of SNR. In this study, we propose a modified MVE to enhance the resolution for Direction-Of-Arrival (DOA) estimation of underwater acoustic signal. This is to remove the limitation that existing algorithms should know the information for the number of signals. Because the algorithms founded on the eigen value estimate DOA with only the noise subspace, they have the high-resolution characteristic. And then, with the method reducing the effect of the signal subspace, we are to reduce the degradation because of complementary relationship between the signal subspace and the noise subspace. This paper, with using the simulation data, we have estimated the proposed algorithms, compared it with other high-resolution algorithms. The simulation results show that the modified MVE proposed is accurate and has a better resolution even though SNR is low, under the same condition.

  • A generalization of null-spectrum for use in the estimation of directions of arrival of signal sources is considered in this paper. The upper and lower bounds of the generalized null-spectrum, the maximum and minimum null-spectra, are also derived. We observed that the maximum null-spectrum has higher resolution capability than other null-spectra including the two well-known null-spectra, the multiple signal classification null-spectrum and the Min-Norm null-spectrum.

  • This paper presents an alternative technique for DOA (direction-of-arrival) estimation. For generating a weight vector orthogonal to the signal subspace, a modified version of MES (minimum eigenvalue searching ) method is introduced. The performance of the proposed technique is compared to that of the conventional ED (eigen decomposition) method in terms of angle resolution for a number of snapshots during agiven observation period as well as various SNR's. In addition, the superiority of the suggested technique is shown, by analyzing the required computational load of the proposed MES and conventional ED method. A novel procedure of simplifying the MES proposed in [1] is presented on that purpose. Another advnatage of the proposed technique is that it is performed independently of the detection of the number of signal components, which makes it possible to estimate the DOA's of clusters consisting of infinite number of inseparable signal components.

  • For the issue of subsurface target localization by reverse projection, a new approach of target localization with different distances based on symmetric sub-array multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar is proposed in this paper. By utilizing the particularity of structure of the two symmetric sub-arrays, the received signals are jointly reconstructed to eliminate the distance information from the steering vectors. The distance-independent direction of arrival (DOA) estimates are acquired, and the localizations of subsurface targets with different distances are realized by reverse projection. According to the localization mechanism and application characteristics of the proposed algorithm, the grid zooming method based on spatial segmentation is used to optimize the locaiton efficiency. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed localization method and optimization scheme.

  • The Telescope Array (TA) experiment reported the arrival direction distribution of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) with energies above $5.7{\times}10^{19}eV$ in the northern sky. A clustering of TA events, the so-called hotspot, was found; however, its nature has not yet been understood. To understand the origin of the TA hotspot, we examine the sky distributions of the TA UHECR arrival direction and filamentary structures of galaxies in the local universe. By statistical tests for anisotropy, we find a close correlation of the TA events with the filaments of galaxies connected to the Virgo cluster. We discuss our finding and its implications.

  • In this paper, we propose a probabilistic framework for model-based clustering of direction of arrival (DOA) data to obtain stable sound source localization (SSL) estimates. Model-based clustering has been shown capable of handling highly overlapped and noisy datasets, such as those involved in DOA detection. Although the Gaussian mixture model is commonly used for model-based clustering, we propose use of the von Mises mixture model as more befitting circular DOA data than a Gaussian distribution. The EM framework for the von Mises mixture model in a unit hyper sphere is degenerated for the 2D case and used as such in the proposed method. We also use a histogram of the dataset to initialize the number of clusters and the initial values of parameters, thereby saving calculation time and improving the efficiency. Experiments using simulated and real-world datasets demonstrate the performance of the proposed method.
