Diastema is thought to be a problem related to aesthetics, pronunciation, or malocclusion. Due to its extent and patient conditions, orthodontic treatment, prosthodontic treatment, and conservative direct resin restoration are the treatment options for diastema closure. Additional factors need to be considered when deciding on the most appropriate treatment of diastema, particularly for patients with cerebral palsy. A 13-year-old girl visited the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Yonsei University Dental Hospital with a chief complaint of the large gap between her upper front teeth. After clinical and radiographic examinations, midline diastema of 4.5 mm, protrusive maxilla incisors, congenital missing teeth, retained primary teeth, etc. were identified. Prosthodontic treatment with intentional root canal treatment was not appropriate because of the patient's age. Dental spaces can be closed effectively via orthodontic appliances. However, additional prosthodontic and restorative intervention is unavoidable, which incurs significant costs and requires more time. Instead of orthodontic and prosthodontic treatment, direct resin restoration can address the chief complaint; these restorations are reversible, less harmful to other oral structure and teeth, relatively easy to apply, less expensive than other treatments, and require shorter office visits. Midline diastema can be treated in several ways. For diastema closure in patients with cerebral palsy, conservative resin restorations are a short, simple, and appropriate treatment compared with orthodontic or prosthodontic treatments.
Images acquired by a digital X-ray imaging system are inherently degraded due to system degradation process and additive noise sources. The system degradation in image quality is typically described as the system response function characterized by the modulation transfer function (MTF) and the noise term described as the noise power spectrum (NPS). In this case, we can restore the blur image as close as possible to the original image by using modified filtering designed for digital imaging system, as we know more precisely about the MTF and the NPS. In this paper, by performing simulation, we tried to restore blurred images taken from a digital X-ray imaging system based upon conventional filtering techniques such as a direct-inverse filtering, limited-inverse filtering, or a Wiener filtering, and evaluated the characteristics of the image restoration.
Purpose: The rate of fistulas occuring followed by resection of oral cavity, oropharyngeal, hypopharyngeal, and laryngeal cancer are reported to be 9 ~ 23% according to various documents. Neglected treatment of the fistula can result in a setback in proper treatment with restrictions in oral intake leading to delayed return to daily life. Furthurmore, in severe cases, it may injure important vessels and adjacent structures of the neck area. The author reviewed previously reported cases of treatment methods for fistulas recurring after diverse head and neck operations and with sharing the treatment experiments of our patients, we tried to present a treatment algorism for different fistula types. Methods: Our study was based on retrograde analysis of 64 patients who were clinically diagnosed with fistula after operation for cancer of the head and neck from 1997 to 2008 at Severance Hospital. Their primary sites of cancer were 8 oral cavity, 22 oropharynx, 25 hypopharynx, and 9 larynx. The patients were aged 45 to 75 years and the male to female ratio was 11 to 1. The patient's operation records and progress notes were evaluated for determination of degree of fistula and treatment methods. Results: Most fistulas were clinically suspected after postoperative 5 days and symptoms noted for detection of the fistula were erythema, purulent discharge, edema, tenderness, and fluctuation. The fistula was definitely diagnosed at postoperative 2 weeks with barium test and treatment method ranging from conservative management to operative procedure were applied to each patients. Total 21 patients were managed with conservative protocol. In 15 cases, direct repair of the fistula was done and more stable repair of the fistula was possible with using of TachoComb$^{(R)}$. Pharyngostoma was performed in 14 patients. Among them, 4 patients healed spontaneously, 5 patients were taken direct closure, 4 patients were taken pectoralis major musculocutaneous flap, and one patient was taken esophageal transfer. The other 14 patients were taken 11 pectoralis major musculocutaneous flaps and 3 free flaps without pharyngostoma formation. Conclusion: Fistula is a troublesome complication resulting after resection of head and neck cancer. Early detection and adequate treatment according to the period and condition of the fistula may prevent further complications and reduce the pain of the patient.

At least, there are intense pressures on the natural habitats from various disturbance, including urbanization, extension of industrial area, and road construction. These human land use result in fragmentation of landscape and natural habitat. The ecological consequences of habitat fragmentation include the direct effects of habitat loss and the indirect effects of reduced inter-patch dispersal. The decline of biological diversity has been rapidly declined by the habitat loss and fragmentation. Conservation strategists should consider not only the habitat amount of that must be preserved, but also the spatial configuration of habitat across the landscape. But, the paucity of available data for most species forces landscape ecologists to develop the concept, model, and theory. The developed theories are often misused in academic papers and practical applications. The development history, presumption of concept, model, theory is ignored. This tendency have leaded to failure of landscape restoration and the use of theory in conservation practice have come under increasing attacks. This paper will highlight the ecological theory that have proven the most influential in landscape ecology, restoration and conservation : the theory of island biogeography, the theory of nested subset analysis, minimum viable population(MVP), the theory of metapopulation dynamics. And, it find the problem and usefulness of four theory in application to real world. Consequently, the understanding of theoretical implication about landscape ecological theory is required. We must carefully apply the theory after examining the problem and availability of various theory because of no existence of only one general theory.

In cases, such as white porcelain with openwork lotus scroll design, where the ceramics has intricate form and decorations, we normally use casts to restore the work, in that current restoration materials have short molding time which causes difficulties in delicate work. However, since using a cast for restoration requires longer work-time and uses more materials, we decided to restore in direct. Since the molding time in the restoration material is closely related to the workability, restoration material which secures longer work hours is necessary when directly restoring a complex form of body. Therefore we experimented on the work-time, color variation and workability as time passes by making mixtures of Epoxy putty and Baked clay in different ratios. As a result of the experiment, the mixture ratio of OS8:RQ2 turned out to be the most effective ratio.

In recently, using of steel reinforcements by reinforcing materials of the reinforced earth, micro-pile and root-pile etc,. is wide-spreading in the stabilizing control of cutting and embankment slopes, but the failure mechanism of reinforced earth as well as the effect of insert angles or types of reinforcement and others are not defined clearly. In this study, therefore heavy-duty direct shear tests were exercised on the reinforced soil and the non-reinforced soil, which was executed for research on the interaction of soil-reinforcement and theirs behavior. The hardness and softness and the standard sands were used for modeling of reinforced soil, the material constants for the computer simulation were estimated from the results of CD-Test. The effects of reinforcing and of friction increasing on the softness, area ratio of reinforcements is equal, were the better than them of the hardness, as well the reinforcing effects of shear strength without regard to the area ratio is much the same at $10^{\circ}$, insert angle of reinforced bar, differ from them of the existing study. Then, the results of numerical analysis showed that the behavior of reinforcements displayed bending resistance and shear resistance at $15^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, respectively. Also, the state of strain transfer was observed and the behavior of resistance mechanism on reinforcements presented almost the same them of landslides stabilizing pile.
The aim of this study was to compare the marginal leakage of class II light curing composite resin restoration according to filling methods. With using acid etching technique and dentin bonding agent, various methods were suggested to eliminate or reduce the marginal leakage. In this study, class II cavities were prepared in 100 extracted human premolars with cementum margin(1mm below the CEJ) and the teeth were randomly assigned to 5 groups of 20 teeth each. The teeth in group 1, 2, 3 and 4 were restored by direct filling methods using P-50 and Clearfil Photoposterior of 10 teeth each, but the method of insertion of the restorative materials varied with each group. And the teeth in group 5 were restored by inlay method using Kulzer Inlay and CR Inlay. Filling methods are as follows : Group 1 : The composite resin was inserted in one layer in the proximal box and one layer in the occlusal portion. Group 2 : Insertion was in two equally thick horizontal layers in the proximal box. Group 3 : Insertion was in two diagonally placed layers in the proximal box. Group 4 : The composite resin was inserted in the same way as in group 3 except that a glass ionomer liner was first placed on the axial wall and gingival floor. Group 5 : The teeth were restored by Inlay technique using dure cure resin cement. All the teeth were thermocycled, stained with 1 % methylene blue solution, sectioned mesiodistally, and scored for marginal leakage. To compare the marginal leakage, ANOVA and T-test were used in analysis. The following results were obtained : 1. In direct filling methods, there was no significant difference in marginal leakage at both occlusal and cervical margins. 2. In all groups, occlusal margin showed significantly less leakage than cervical margin. 3. In group using glass ionomer liner, there was no significant reduction of marginal leakage at the cervical margin. 4. The group restored by inlay method showed significantly less marginal leakage than groups restored by direct filling methods at both occlusal and gingival margins. 5. There was no significant difference in each group according to filling materials.

Decalcification of the buccal surface of the teeth often occurs during fixed orthodontic treatment. This case report describes two cases in which cervical decalcificated teeth that occurred during orthodontic treatment were treated with direct resin veneer restoration. Early lesions without caries can be remineralized through periodic fluoride application, diet control, and oral hygiene improvement. As it progresses, appropriate repair treatment is required, and it is more preferable to focus on prevention rather than treatment after the occurrence of the lesion.

The main purpose of this study was to verify the shore margin protection effect of the root system of Salix gracilistyla Miq. developed from direct sticking cuttings on wetland, through the measurement of root growth and comparison of soil slaking rate depending on the planting method applied to shore-marginal slope. Comparison of growth rate and soil dispersion rate was made between five planted slope and one naked slope. The planting methods applied to the planted slope were (a) horizontally layed burying of stick(45cm) bundle (b) horizontally layed covering the slope with sticks (c) horizontally fencing with normal cuttings(20cm) (d) elected sticking of normal cutting at equal distances (e) random scattering short cuttings(3-4cm). As results, the most effective planting method was horizontally layed burying, and in order to increase its efficiency scattering the live stem chips in 2-3cm on the slope is recommended. The growth of root was negatively regressive to the distance from water floor.

The main purpose of this study was to verify the shore margin protection effect of the root system of Salix gracilistyla Miq. developed from direct sticking cuttings on wetland, focusing on the effect of the root system reducing soil particle dissociation rate in water. The soil dissociation rate was examined through slaking tests with cylindric pure soil column at maximum particle density and the same size column of root reinforced soil. The dry weight of remained soil was measured after 5, 10, 15, 30minutes and 1, 6, 12, 24, 48hours inundation. As results, the soil particles began to dissociate severely at 10 minutes and only 10% of soil particles were left after 25minutes inundation. The stable slope angle of pure soil was $36^{\circ}$after 24 hours. On the other hand, the columns of root reinforced soil were stable even after 24hours, being dissociated only 7.2% of soil particles. So, it was revealed that the root system was very effective materials protecting more than 80% of soil particle from dissociation in inundation.
