In technology economic theory, technology innovation through R&D is regarded as a core element of economic growth. This research analyzes how R&D input factor (R&D as a percentage of GDP, total number of researchers, the proportion of science and engineering degree) affects GDP, economic outcome variable, through mediating variable (S&T papers, patent registration). The most effective variable among R&D activity variables is following order: the number of S&T papers (0.967), the total number of researchers (0.373), the proportion of R&D expenditure (0.191), the number of patent registration (0.049), the proportion of science and engineering degree (0.007). It is that the proportion R&D expenditure and the total number of researchers shows greater indirect impact through S&T papers and patent than the direct impact on GDP. This implies the importance of high-quality human resources training and the necessity of maintaining the scale of R&D fund or the importance on GDP. Moreover, S&T papers turns out to have the greatest effect on GDP and implies new outcome and value by sharing and expanding new knowledge and technology created by R&D
Objectives : To evaluate the annual visit days, the annual prescription days and the medical costs of hypertensive patients. Methods : The medical insurance records of 40,267 incident patients with the diagnostic code of hypertension from September 1998 through August 1999 in Daegu city were reviewed. Results : The proportion of the most proper medical care pattern group (Group VIII) who visited for 6-15 days with 240 prescription days or more a year was only 6.2%. The proper care group (Group IX) who visited for more than 16 days with 240 prescription days or more a year was 9.3%. The overall proper care group (Group VIII+IX) was therefore 15.5%. The proportion of the insufficient care group (Group I, IV) in both the number of visiting days and prescription days was 57.4%. The mean prescription day of the most proper group (Group VIII) was 29 days; the mean annual medical expenses,453,587won; the mean annual amount paid by patients, 218,013won; and mean medical expenses per prescription day, 1,483won. The proportion of the overall proper care group (Group VIII+IX) was significantly higher in adults aged 50-59, those who were enrolled in industrial workers health insurance as well as government employees and private school teachers health insurance, and those who made a higher contribution per month (p<0.01). According to the type of medical facilities, the proportion of the most proper medical care pattern group was highest in the general hospitals (9.3%) but the overall proper care group was higher in the public health centers (22.1%) and private clinics (17.1%). Conclusions : The management system of hypertension should be reinforced urgently. Therefore, it is necessary to develop guidelines including the number of visiting days per year and prescription days per visit day, and make the system provide medical facilities to more properly care for hypertensive patients.
For studying chlorophyll biosynthetic heterogeneity of plants, it is necessary to establish a technique for microassay of a putative monovinyl and divinyl protoporphyrin IX. Precise determination of the amounts of monovinyl and divinyl protoporphyrin IX is difficult with optical electronic spectroscopy even at 77$\circ$C. Such a problem could be solved by conversion of protoporphyrin IX to protoporphyrin IX dimethylester with diazomethane and subsequent Mg insertion into protoporphyrin IX dimethylester by reaction with a Grignard solution. The proportion of monovinyl and divinyl Mg-protoporphyrin IX dimethylester formed was measured instead of direct measuring that of protoporphyrin IX by low-temperature spectrofluorometry. The relative proportions of monovinyl and divinyl of protoporphyrin IX, Mg-protoporphyrin IX, and Mgprotoporphyrin IX dimethylester have not changed during the chemical conversion steps. This analysis system could be useful for the study of the monovinyl and divinyl chlorophyll biosynthetic routes in plants.
The extracts of selected plants and analyzed phenolic compounds were used to study the effects of alleloKDICicals on seed germination and seedling growth. HPLC analysis of the aqueous extracts of seven species identified 15 phenolic compounds including caffeic acid. Among them, protocatechuic acid was detected at 65.87ppm and 6.84ppm, in Erigeron canadensis and Pinus rigida, respectively. And the extract of P. rigida showed the strongest inhibitory effect on seed germination. The extract of P. rigida leaves significantly inhibited germination and radicle growth of Raphanus sativus var. hortensis for. acanthiformis in direct proportion to concentration. However, germination of Cassia mimosoides var. nomame was stimulated by the treated extracts at the same concentrations, but root growth was inhibited at high concentrations. Except chlorogenic acid, eleven of the twelve phenolic compounds inhibited the germination of R. sativus var. hortensis for. acanthiformis. In the case of C. mimosoides var. nomame, some phenolic compounds such as chlorogenic acid, vanillic acid, protocatechuic acid, ferulic acid, gallic acid and ${\rho}-coumaric$ acid stimulated germination, while the others reduced it.

This paper discusses the effect of varying LiBr solution circuits flow rates for a direct fired double effect commercial absorption chiller in the parallel flow configuration. The effects of solution flow rates have been investigated for generator, condenser, solution heat exchanger, absorber and evaporator. According to the result of this work, it was found that sensible heat rate of generator increases and refrigerant vapor generated in that decreases when inlet solution flow rate of that increases. As solution flow rate of absorber increases, the degree of superheat increases because of decreasing solution heat exchanger efficiency. The flashing vapor at the top of absorber increases in proportion to the degree of superheat whileas decreases cooling capacity inversely.

For improving the quality of survey dat a of sensitive character, we suggest a conditional in direct survey method. In th at method, only the respondents who answer directly to the less sensitive question respond indirectly to the more sensitive one by using the one sample unrelated question randomized response technique with the known $\pi_y$, the true proportion of unrelated group Y. We extend it to two sample method when $\pi_y$ is unknown. We also consider the case that people who possess less sensitive character answer untruthfully. Finally we compare our method with the methods of Greenberg et al. and Carr et al..
Surface treatment was carried out by an Excimer Pulse laser beam in order to increase the adhesive strength of vulcanized rubber. With increasing number of laser beam irradiations, the adhesive strength was greatly increased; the adhesive strength was 1,500 N/m after irradiation 100 times. The energy density increase was in direct proportion to the adhesive strength increase; the maximum value of the adhesive strength was 1,500 N/m at the energy density of 176 mJ/$cm^{2}$. It was concluded that the increase of surface area was relevant to that of both energy density and adhesive strength
Medicinal plant Rehmanniae Radix has long been used as traditional herbal medicine in Korea. In this study, we investigated quantitative changes of marker substance 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde (5-HMF) in Rehmanniae Radix Preparata fermented with Ganoderma lucidum, Paecilomyces japonica, honey, and Nuruk, using HPLC according to the Korean Pharmacopoeia. As a result, 5-HMF was decreased in SDT and SYT, and increased in SST and SNT, comparing with control group. Quantitative increasing of 5-HMF is not exactly in direct proportion with fermentation, and it is need further studies to elucidate mechanism of quantitative changes by converted and newly produced substances with fermentation.

Previous research on two-sided markets has, for the most part, concentrated on indirect network externalities between buyers alto sellers. This paper considers direct competition effect among sellers and among buyers as well as indirect network externalities. We develop an analytic model of C2C e-marketplaces and examine whether a monopolistic incumbent could successfully deter new entry into its market. We find that the effect of the number of sellers or buyers on the price of goods depends on whether sellers have decided to sell the goods using an auction or fixed pricing rule and on the characteristics of the goods. We argue that when the effect of the number of sellers on the price of goods is significantly larger than that of buyers, there is a high possibility of entry. In particular, we show that entry becomes more difficult to deter as fixed-price format is adopted more frequently or the proportion of collectables is relatively low.
In order to reduce the systemic side effects and gastrointestinal irritation after its oral adminitration, ketoprofen was formulated as water-soluble packs. The effects of fatty acids and fatty alcohols on the penetration of ketoprofen through excised rat skins were evaluated. The role of stratum corneum as a protective barrier was also investigated. Fatty acids and fatty alcohols were generally effective in promoting ketoprofen penetration. The flux of ketoprofen through rat skin was maximized when oleic acid or lauryl alcohol was used as an enhancer. As the concentration of fatty acids and fatty alcohols varied from 0% to 10%, the amounts of ketoprofen penetrated were in direct proportion to that of fatty acids but those had no relationship with that of fatty alcohols. The penetration of ketoprofen through stripped skin was enhanced compared to normal skin irrespective of enhancer type, which indicated that the action site of enhancers would be stratum corneum.
