A method of describing the rovibrational energy transitions and coupled chemical reactions in the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) calculations is constructed for $H(^2S)+H_2(X^1{\Sigma}_g)$ and $He(^1S)+H_2(X^1{\Sigma}_g)$. First, the state-specific total cross sections for each rovibrational states are proposed to describe the state-resolved elastic collisions. The state-resolved method is constructed to describe the rotational-vibrational-translational (RVT) energy transitions and coupled chemical reactions by these state-specific total cross sections and the rovibrational state-to-state transition cross sections of bound-bound and bound-free transitions. The RVT energy transitions and coupled chemical reactions are calculated by the state-resolved method in various heat bath conditions without relying on a macroscopic properties and phenomenological models of the DSMC. In nonequilibrium heat bath calculations, the state-resolved method are validated with those of the master equation calculations and the existing shock-tube experimental data. In bound-free transitions, the parameters of the existing chemical reaction models of the DSMC are proposed through the calibrations in the thermochemical nonequilibrium conditions. When the bound-free transition component of the state-resolved method is replaced by the existing chemical reaction models, the same agreement can be obtained except total collision energy model.
The direct injection diesel engine is one of the most efficient thermal engines. For this reason DI diesel engines are widely used for heavy-duty applications. But the world is faced with very serious problems related to the air pollution due to the exhaust emissions of diesel engine. So, that is air pollution related to exhaust gas resulted from explosive combustion should be improved. Exhaust Gas Recirculation(EGR) is a proven method to reduce NOx emissions. In this study, the experiments were performed at various engine loads while the EGR rates were set from $0\%$ to $30\%.$ The emissions trade-off and combustion of diesel engine are investigated. The brake specific fuel consumption rate is very slightly fluctuated with EGR in the range of experimental conditions. The ignition delay increased with increasing EGR rate. The maximum value of premixed combustion for the rate of heat release is increased with increasing EGR rate. NOx emissions are decreased with increasing EGR rate at high load and high speed. It was found that the exhaust emissions with the EGR system resulted in a very large reduction in oxides of nitrogen at the expense of higher smoke emissions.
Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) shows great potential for low $NO_x$ emission but is hampered by the problem of no direct method to control the combustion process. Therefore, HCCI combustion becomes unstable easily, especially at lower and higher engine load. This paper presents a method to achieve diesel-fueled HCCI combustion, which involves directly injecting diesel fuel into the cylinder before the piston arrives at top dead center in the exhaust stroke and adjusting the valve overlap duration to trap more high temperature residual gas in the cylinder. The combustion stability of diesel-fueled HCCI combustion and the effects of engine load, speed, and valve overlap on it are the main points of investigation. The results show that: diesel-fueled HCCI combustion has two-stage heat release rate (low temperature and high temperature heat release) and very low $NO_x$ emission, combustion stability of the HCCI engine is worse at lower load because of misfire and at higher load because of knock, the increase in engine speed aids combustion stability at lower load because the heat loss is reduced, and increasing negative valve overlap can increase in-cylinder temperature which aids combustion stability at lower load but harms it at higher load.
For the improvement of environmental comfort in the buildings with the blind control, the objective of this study is to prevent the direct glare caused by the daylight inlet. During the process of solar profile prediction, time are significant factors that may cause error and glare during the blind control. This research proposes and evaluates the correction and control method to minimize prediction error. For the local areas with different longitude and local standard meridian, error occurred in the process of the time conversion from local standard time to apparent solar time. In order to correct error in time conversion, apparent solar time should be recalculated after adjusting the day of year and the equation of time. To solve the problems by the potential time errors, control method is suggested to divide the control sections using the calibrated fitting-curve and this method is verified through simulations. The proposed correction and control method, which considered potential time errors by loop lop leap years, could solve the problems about direct glare caused by daylight inlet on the work-plane according to the prediction errors of solar profile. And also these methods could maximize daylight inlet and solar heat gain, because the blocked area on windows could be minimized.
The heat transfer phenomenon in the vicinity of the irradiated region of a focused laser beam of a DMT process greatly affects both the deposition characteristics of powders on a substrate and the properties of the deposited region. The goal of this paper is to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of a single bead deposition of Inconel 718 powders on S45C structural steel using a laser-aided direct metal tooling (DMT) process. The finite element analysis (FEA) model with a Gaussian volumetric heat flux is developed to simulate a three-dimensional transient heat transfer phenomenon. The cross-section of the bead for the FEA is estimated with an equivalent area method using experimental results. Through the comparison of the results of the experiments and those of the analysis, the effective beam radius of the bottom region of the volumetric heat flux and the efficiency of the heat flux model for different powers and travel speeds of the laser are predicted. From the results of the FEA, the influence of the power and the travel speed of the laser on the creation of a steady-state heat transfer region and the formation of the heat-affected zone (HAZ) in the substrate are investigated.
New alternative refrigerants have been developed due to the ozone layer depletion and global warming. For this reason, carbon dioxide is believed to be a promising refrigerant for use in air conditioners and heat pumps. Evaporative heat transfer characteristics and pressure drop of $CO_2$ with outer diameter of 5 mm in inclined ($45^{\circ}$) smooth and micro-fin tubes have been investigated by the experiments with respect to several test conditions such as mass fluxes, heat fluxes, evaporation temperatures in this study. The inclined ($45^{\circ}$) smooth and micro-fin tubes with length of 1.44 m were installed to measure the evaporative heat transfer coefficients of $CO_2$ and heat was supplied to the refrigerant by direct heating method where the test tube was uniformly heated by electricity. The tests were conducted at mass fluxes from 212 to $656\;kg/m^2s$, heat fluxes from 15 to $60\;kW/m^2$ and evaporation temperatures from -10 to $20^{\circ}C$. The heat transfer coefficients of $CO_2$ are slightly increased with increasing mass flux, and the heat transfer characteristics in the inclined ($45^{\circ}$) tubes are enhanced about $5{\sim}10%$ compared with those in horizontal or vertical tubes.
A finite element model for the process of squeeze casting for metal matrix composites (MMCs) in cylindrical mold is developed. The fluid flow and the heat transfer are the fundamental phenomena in the squeeze casing process. To describe heat transfer with solidification of molten aluminum, the energy equation in terms of temperature and enthalpy are applied to two dimensional axisymmetric model which is similar to the experimental system. And one dimensional flow model is employed to simulate the transient metal flow. The direct iteration technique was used to solve the resulting nonlinear algebraic equations. A computer program is developed to calculate the enthalpy, temperature and fluid velocity. Cooling curves and temperature distribution during infiltration and solidification are calculated for pure aluminum. The temperature is measured and recorded experimentally. At two points of the perform inside and one point of the mold outside, thermocouple wire are installed. The time-temperature data are compared with the calculated cooling curves. The experimental results show that the finite element model can estimate the solidification time and predict the cooling process.

As the space of the wind power generator stator end is limited, it is difficult for us to place the inner evaporative cooling system in it. We use the non-overlapping concentrated windings scheme to solve the placing and cooling problem. The characteristic of a 5MW direct-driven permanent magnet generator with non-overlapping concentrated windings were analyzed under no-load, rating-load and short-circuit by (Finite Element Method) FEM for verification of design. We studied the connection methods of the stator windings and designed the end connection member. The heat dissipation of the stator end was simulated by FEM, the result showed that the end cooling could satisfy the wind generator operation needs. These results show that the direct-driven permanent magnet wind power generators with non-overlapping concentrated windings and inner evaporative cooling system can solve the cooling problem of wind power generator, and obtain good performance at the same time.
Flow boiling heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) of R22, R134a, R407C, and R410A were measured for a horizontal plain tube. The test section was made of a copper tube of 8.8mm inner diameter and 1000mm length respectively. The refrigerant was heated by passing hot water through an annulus surrounding the test section. All tests were performed at a fixed refrigerant saturation temperature of $5^{\circ}C$ with mass fluxes of 100~300 kg/$m^2$,/TEX>s. HTCs were measured by two methods: the direct wall temperature measurement method and the indirect Wilson plot method. Experimental results showed that the Wilson plot method was affected greatly by the external test conditions and yielded inconsistent results. For the mass flux of 100kg/$m^2$,/TEX>s, HTCs were almost constant regardless of the quality for a given refrigerant HTCs of R134a and R407C were similar to those of R22 while those of R410A were 60% higher than those of R22. For the mass fluxes of 200 and 300kg/$m^2$,/TEX>s, HTCs of R407C were almost the same as those of R22, while HTCs of R134a and R410A were 12-13% and 20~23% higher than those of R22 respectively. For pure refrigerant, Shah\`s correlation yielded a good agreement with the measured data both qualitatively and quantitatively.
