  • The influence of magnetic saturation on electromagnetic field distribution in both a permanent-magnet direct-current (PMDC) motor and a field-winding (wound-field) direct-current (FWDC) motor, with the same output mechanical power, has been studied. In this paper, an approximate analytical method and time-stepping Finite Element Method (FEM) are used for prediction of Back-EMF and electromagnetic torque. No-load and rotor-lucked conditions, according to experimental measurements, and the FEM and analytical method studies of the motors have been considered. A sensitivity analysis has also been successfully accomplished on the major design parameters that affect motor performance. At last, these two DC motors are compared, in spite of their differences, on the basis of measured output characteristics.

  • A new method of direct current motor drive, which requires neither shaft encoder nor speed estimator, is presented. The proposed scheme is based on decreasing current gap between a numerical model and an actual motor. By supplying the identical instantaneous voltage to both model and motor in the direction of reducing the current difference, the rotor approaches to the model speed, that is, reference value. The performance of direct current motor drives without speed sensor is generally poor at very low speed. However, in this system, it is possible to obtain good speed performance in the low speed range.

  • Purpose : This study was to identify the effect of cognitive reaction following inactive electrode placement when applying anodal transcranial direct current stimulation over the primary motor cortex. Methods : For this study a total of 28 stroke patients participated. Before applying transcranial direct current stimulation, cognitive reaction was measured (P300 of event related potential, cognitive reaction time), and subjects were randomly assigned to two group. Transcranial direct current stimulation was applied to the scalp with an intensity of $0.04mA/cm^2$ for 15 minutes. All subjects were given an anode transcranial direct current stimulation over the primary motor area and inactive electrodes over the deltoid muscle (group I) and supra-orbital area (group II). Cognitive reactions were measured after applying transcranial direct current stimulation. Results : For this study a total of 28 stroke patients participated. • There are many kinds of motors operating by rated voltage which is constant. In this paper, the characteristics of separately excited direct current motor is analyzed when its terminal voltage is varied as its load current. As for this source, direct current generator of a series field is used, and it is driven at constant speed by a primemover. The induced voltage of the generator is propotional to its load current but it saturates as its load current is large. The charateristics of motor is studied by analog computer because of the nonlinearity of generator. The results are as follows: (1) The load current and the rotor speed of motor increase as the load of motor increases. But the speed of rotor decreases for the influence of the saturation of the iron of generator field when its load current is large. (2) Decreasing the inertia of motor and increasing the inductance of the armature circuit improve the stability of motor and the region of stable state. (3) By changing the field current of the motor, the speed and the direction of rotor can be controlled in wide range.

  • This paper proposes an optimal current control method for improving efficiency of Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motor. The proposed optimal current control method is based on the maximum torque point analysis of Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The proposed method can increase the effective voltage at the maximum torque point of BLDC motor and increase the output torque per unit current to increase the efficiency. In order to verify the proposed optimal current control method, have developed the prototype of a 50 [W] class motor drive and experimented by 20 [W] motor using the dynamometer set. This was verified.

  • Novel 8/10 bearingless switched reluctance motor, which can control rotor radial positions with magnetic force, is proposed. The motor has combined characteristics of switched reluctance motor and magnetic bearing. This paper proposes a air-gap control system method of suspending force control in a bearingless switched reluctance motor (BLSRM). The proposed radial force control scheme is independent to the torque winding current. A PI direct current control (DCC) controller and look-up table are used to maintain a constant rotor air-gap. From the analysis and the experimental results, it is shown that the proposed strategy is effective in realizing a naturally decoupled radial force control of BLSRM.

  • This paper presents the method of reducing torque ripple of Blushless Direct Current(BLDC) motor. In the BLDC motor, the torque is decided by the back-EMF and current waveform. If the back-EMF is constant, the torque ripple depends on the current ripple during commutation period. The current in commutation period is acquired by circuit analysis and then the torque ripple simply can be reduced by varying input voltage to flow the current continuously. And suggested method is confirmed by dynamic with parameters of 500W BLDC motor.

  • This paper presents an implementation of high performance control of a reluctance synchronous motor (RSM) using a neural network with a direct torque control. The equivalent circuit in a RSM, which considers iron losses, is theoretically analyzed. Also, the optimal current ratio between torque current and exiting current is analytically derived. In the case of a RSM, unlike an induction motor, torque dynamics can only be maintained by controlling the flux level because torque is directly proportional to the stator current. The neural network is used to efficiently drive the RSM. The TMS320C3l is employed as a control driver to implement complex control algorithms. The experimental results are presented to validate the applicability of the proposed method. The developed control system shows high efficiency and good dynamic response features for a 1.0 [kW] RSM having a 2.57 ratio of d/q.

  • This paper presents an implementation of efficiency optimization of reluctance synchronous motor (RSM) using a neural network (NN) with a direct torque control (DTC). The equipment circuit considered with iron losses in RSM is analyzed theoretically, and the optimal current ratio between torque current and exiting current component are derived analytically. For the RSM driver, torque dynamic can be maintained with DTC using TMS320F2812 DSP Controller even with controlling the flux level because a torque is directly proportional to the stator current unlike induction motor. In order to drive RSM at maximum efficiency and good dynamics response, the Backpropagation Neural Network is adapted. The experimental results are presented to validate the applicability of the proposed method. The developed control system show high efficiency and good dynamic response features with 1.0 [kW] RSM having 2.57 inductance ratio of d/q.

  • This paper proposes a novel current-sensorless maximum torque per ampere control for a surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor with low-resolution position sensor. A direct axis current is estimated from the mathematical model of the permanent magnet synchronous motor and the phase angle between direct and quadrature axis voltage commands is controlled to adjust the estimated direct axis current to zero, thus a maximum torque per ampere control can be achieved. The proposed method is suitable for low cost applications with slow dynamic response characteristics.
