The dinuclear tetraazadiphenol macrocyclic nickel(II) complexes [$Ni_2$([20]-DCHDC)]$Cl_2$ (I), [$Ni_2$([20]-DCHDC)]$(ClO_4)_2{\cdot}2CH_3CN $ (II(b)) and [$Ni_2$([20]-DCHDC)$(NCS)_2$] (III) {$H_2$[20]-DCHDC = 14,29-dimethyl-3,10,18,25-tetraazapentacyclo-[25,3,1,$0^{4,9}$,$1^{12,16}$,$0^{19,24}$]ditriacontane-2,10,12,14,16(32),17,27(31), 28,30-decane-31,32-diol} have been synthesized by self-assembly and characterized by elemental analyses, conductances, FT-IR and FAB-MS spectra, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure of II(b) is determined. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/c. The coordination geometries around Ni(II) ions in I and II(b) are identical and square planes. In complex III each Ni(II) ion is coordinated to $N_2O_2$ plane from the macrocycle and N atoms of NCS- ions occupying the axial positions, forming a square pyramidal geometry. The nonbonded Ni…Ni intermetallic separation in the complex II(b) is 2.8078(10) $\AA$. The FAB mass spectra of I, II and III display major fragments at m/z 635.1, 699.4 and 662.4 corresponding to [$Ni_2$([20]-DCHDC)(Cl + 2H)]$^+$, [$Ni_2$([20]-DCHDC)$(ClO_4\;+\;2H)]^+$ and [$Ni_2$([20]-DCHDC)(NCS) + 6H]$^+$, respectively.

The flowers of Hemisteptia lyrata B. afforded two known acylglycerylgalactosides, 2',3'-di-O-(9Z,12Z,15Z-octadecatrienoyl)glyceryl ${\beta}$-D-galactopyranoside (1) and 2'-O-(9Z,12Z,15Z-octadecatrienoyl)glyceryl ${\beta}$-D-galactopyranoside (2), and a new sesquiterpene galactopyranoside, 7-eudesmene-1${\beta}$,4${\beta}$-diol-1-O-${\beta}$-D-galactopyranoside (3). This is the first time that galactopyranosides (1-3) have been isolated from the genus Hemisteptia. Their structures and stereochemistry were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR data, including COSY, NOESY and HMBC experiments.
Resource recovery and recycling of materials and products, including polyurethanes is viewed as a necessity in today's society. Most urethane polymers are made from a polyol and a diisocyanate. these and be chemicals such as water, diamines or diols that react with isocyanate groups and add to the polymer backbone. The problems of recycling polyurethane wastes has major technological, economic and ecological significance because polyurethane itself is relatively expensive and its disposal whether by burning is also costly. In general, the recycling methods for polyurethane could be classified as mechanical, chemical and feedstock. In the chemical recycling method, there are hydrolysis, glycolysis, pyrolysis and aminolysis. This study, the work was carried out glycolysis using sonication ant catalyzed reaction. Different kinds of recycled polyols were produced by current method(glycolysis), catalyzed reaction and sonication as decomposers and the chemical properties were analyzed. The reaction results in the formation of polyester urethane diols, the OH value which is determined by the quantity of diol used for the glycolysis conditions. The glycolysis rates by sonication for the various glycols, increased as fallows: PPG
The approximate rates and stoichiometry of the reaction of excess potassium tri-sec-butylborohydride ($K_s-Bu_3BH$) with selected organic compounds containing representative functional groups were determined under the standard conditions (0$^{\circ}C$, THF) in order to define the characteristics of the reagent for selective reductions. Primary alcohols evolve hydrogen in 1 h, but secondary and tertiary alcohols and amines are inert to this reagent. On the other hand, phenols and thiols evolve hydrogen rapidly. Aldehydes and ketones are reduced rapidly and quantitatively to the corresponding alcohols. Reduction of norcamphor gives 99.3% endo- and 0.7% exo-isomer of norboneols. The reagent rapidly reduces cinnamaldehyde to the cinamyl alcohol stage and shows no further uptake of hydride. p-Benzoquinone takes up one hydride rapidly with 0.32 equiv hydrogen evolution and anthraquinone is cleanly reduced to the 9,10-dihydoxyanthracene stage. Carboxylic acids liberate hydrogen rapidly and quantitatively, however further reduction does not occur. Anhydrides utilize 2 equiv of hydride and acyl chlorides are reduced to the corresponding alcohols rapidly. Lactones are reduced to the diol stage rapidly, whereas esters are reduced moderately (3-6 h). Terminal epoxides are rapidly reduced to the more substituted alcohols, but internal epoxides are reduced slowly. Primary and tertiary amides are inert to this reagent and nitriles are reduced very slowly. 1-Nitropropane evolves hydrogen rapidly without reduction and nitrobenzene is reduced to the azoxybenzene stage, whereas azobenzene and azoxybenzene are inert. Cyclohexanone oxime evolves hydrogen without reduction. Phenyl isocyanate utilizes 1 equiv of hydride to proceed to formanilide stage. Pyridine and quinoline are reduced slowly, however pyridine N-oxide takes up 1.5 equiv of hydride in 1 hr. Disulfides are rapidly reduced to the thiol stage, whereas sulfide, sulfoxide, sulfonic acid and sulfone are practically inert to this reagent. Primary alkyl bromide and iodide are reduced rapidly, but primary alkyl chloride, cyclohexyl bromide and cyclohexyl tosylate are reduced slowly.
The twelve macrocycle (L) complexes of cadmium(II) nitrate have been synthesized: $CdL(NO_3)_2$. All the complexes have been indentified by elemental analysis, electric conductivity measurements, IR and NMR spectroscopic techniques. The molar electric conductivities of the complexes in water and acetonitrile solvent were in the range of 236.8-296.1 $cm^2{\cdot}mol^{-1}{\cdot}ohm^{-1}$ at 25$^{\circ}$C. The characteristic peaks of macrocycles affected from Cd(II) were shifted to lower frequencies as compared with uncomplexed macrocycles. A complex with 1,4,8,11-tetrakis(methylacetato)-1,4,8,11-tetraaza cyclodecane (L4) exhibited two characteristic bands such as strong stretching (1646 $cm^{-1})$, and weaker symmetric stretching band (1384 $cm^{-1})$. NMR studies indicated that all nitrogen donor atoms of macrocycles have greater affinity to cadmium(II) metal ion than do the oxygen atoms. The $^{13}$C-resonance lines of methylene groups neighboring the donor atom such as N and S were shifted to a direction of high magnetic field and the order of chemical shifts were $L_1 < L_2 < L_3 < L_6 < L_4$. Also the chemical shifts values were larger than those of methylene groups bridgeheaded in side-armed groups. This result seems due to not only the strong interaction of Cd(Ⅱ) with nitrogen donors according to the HSAB theory, but weak interaction of Cd(Ⅱ) and COO- ions or sulfur which is enhanced by the flexible methylene spacing group in side-armed groups. Thus, each additional gem-methyl pairs of L_3, L_4\;and\; L_6$ macrocycles relative to $L_1, L_2,\;and\;L_5$ leads to an large enhancement in Cd(II) affinity. ^{13}C$-NMR spectrum of the complex with $L_{12}$ (1,5,9,13-tetracyclothiacyclohexadecane-3,11-diol) reveals the presence of two sets of three resonance lines, and intensities of the each resonance line have the ratio of 1 : 2 : 2. This molecular conformation is predicted as structure of tetragonal complex to be formed by coordinating two sulfur atoms and the other two sulfur atoms which is affected by OH-groups.
Polyurethane-ureas(PUUs) were prepared from 4,4'-methylenebis(cyclohexyl isocyanate) and various diols including isosorbide. Isosorbide is starch-derived monomer that exhibit a wide range of glass transition temperature and are therefore able to be used in many applications. PUU was synthesized by a pre-polymer polymerization using a catalyst. Successful synthesis of the PUU was characterized by fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy. Thermal properties were determined by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and dynamic mechanical analysis. It was found that by tuning isosorbide content in the resin, their glass transition temperature(Tg) slightly decreased. Physical properties were also determined by tensile strength and X-ray diffraction. There is no significant differences between petroleum-derived diol and isosorbide in XRD analysis. Moreover, their physical and optical properties were determined. The result showed that the poly(tetramethylene ether glycol)/isosorbide-based PUU exhibited enhanced tensile strength, transmittance, transparency and biodegradability compared to the existing diols. After 11 weeks composting, the biodegradability of blends increased in ISB-PUU. The morphology of the fractured surface of blend films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy.
A mixture of alcohol and water is commonly used as antifreeze, liquor, and the fundamental solvents for the manufacture of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and inks in our daily life. Since various properties of alcohol water mixtures such as density, boiling or melting point, viscosity, and dielectric constant are determined by their mixing ratio, it is very important to know the mixing ratio to predict their properties. One of simple method to find the mixing ratio is measuring the density of the mixtures. However, it is not easy to predict the mixing ratio from the density of the mixtures because the relationship between mixing ratio and density has not been established well. The relationship is dependent on the relative sizes of solute and solvent molecules, and their interactions. Recently, an empirical model to predict the density of glycerol water mixture from their mixing ratio has been introduced. The suggested model is simple but quite accurate for glycerol water mixture. In this article, we investigated the applicability of this model to different alcohol water mixtures. Densities for six different alcohol water mixtures containing various alcohols (e.g., ethylene glycol, 1,3-propane diol, propylene glycol, methanol, ethanol, and 1-propanol) were simulated and compared to experimentally measured ones to investigate the applicability of the model proposed for glycerol water mixtures to other alcohol water mixtures. The model predicted the actual density of all alcohol water mixtures tested in this article with high accuracy at various ratios. This model can probably be used to predict the mixing ratio of other alcohol water mixtures from their densities beyond 6 alcohols tested in this article from their densities.
We inoculated different combinations of three starter candidates, Bacillus licheniformis, Staphylococcus succinus, and Tetragenococcus halophilus, into sterilized soybeans to predict their contributions to volatile compound production through soybean fermentation. Simultaneously, we added NaCl to soybean cultures to evaluate its effect on the volatile compounds profile. Cells in soybean cultures (1.5% NaCl) nearly reached their maximum growth in a day of incubation, while cell growth was delayed by increasing NaCl concentrations in soybean cultures. The dominance of B. licheniformis and S. succinus in the mixed cultures of three starter candidates switched to T. halophilus as the NaCl concentration increased from 1.5% to 14% (w/w). Seventeen volatile compounds were detected from the control and starter candidate-inoculated soybean cultures with and without the addition of NaCl. Principal component analysis of these volatile compounds concluded that B. licheniformis and S. succinus made major contributions to producing a specific volatile compound profile from soybean cultures where both species exhibited good growth. 3-Hydroxybutan-2-one, butane-2,3-diol, and 2,3,5,6-tetramethylpyrazine are specific odor notes for B. licheniformis, and 3-methylbutyl acetate and 2-phenylethanol are specific for S. succinus. Octan-3-one and 3-methylbutan-1-ol were shown to be decisive volatile compounds for determining the involvement of S. succinus in the soybean culture containing 7% NaCl. 3-Methylbutyl acetate and 3-methylbutan-1-ol were also produced by T. halophilus during soybean fermentation at an appropriate level of NaCl. Although S. succinus and T. halophilus exhibited growth on the soybean cultures containing 14% NaCl, species-specific volatile compounds determining the directionality of the volatile compounds profile were not produced.

In our ongoing search for new secondary metabolites from fungal strains, one novel compound (1) and nine known compounds (2-10) were isolated from the EtOAc-soluble layer of the culture broth of Panus rudis. The culture broth of P. rudis was extracted in acetone and fractionated by solvent partition; column chromatography using silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and Sephadex G-10; MPLC; and HPLC. The structures of isolated compounds were elucidated by one- and two-dimensional NMR and LC-ESI-mass measurements. One new compound, panepoxydiol (1), and nine known compounds, (E)-3-(3-hydroxy-3-methylbut-1-en-1-yl)-7-oxabicyclo[4.1.0]hept-3-ene-2,5-diol (2), isopanepoxydone (3), neopanepoxydone (4), panepoxydone (5), panepophenanthrin (6), 4-hydroxy-2,2-dimethyl-6-methoxychromane (7), 6-hydroxy-2,2-dimethyl-3-chromen (8), 2,2-dimethyl-6-methoxychroman-4-one (9), 3,4-dihydroxy-2,2-dimethyl-6-methoxychromane (10), were isolated from the culture broth of P. rudis. This is the first report of isolation of a new compound panepoxydiol (1) and nine other chemical constituents (2-5, 7-10) from the culture broth of P. rudis.
