In genetic association studies with high-dimensional genomic data, multiple group testing procedures are often required in order to identify disease/trait-related genes or genetic regions, where multiple genetic sites or variants are located within the same gene or genetic region. However, statistical testing procedures based on an individual test suffer from multiple testing issues such as the control of family-wise error rate and dependent tests. Moreover, detecting only a few of genes associated with a phenotype outcome among tens of thousands of genes is of main interest in genetic association studies. In this reason regularization procedures, where a phenotype outcome regresses on all genomic markers and then regression coefficients are estimated based on a penalized likelihood, have been considered as a good alternative approach to analysis of high-dimensional genomic data. But, selection performance of regularization procedures has been rarely compared with that of statistical group testing procedures. In this article, we performed extensive simulation studies where commonly used group testing procedures such as principal component analysis, Hotelling's $T^2$ test, and permutation test are compared with group lasso (least absolute selection and shrinkage operator) in terms of true positive selection. Also, we applied all methods considered in simulation studies to identify genes associated with ovarian cancer from over 20,000 genetic sites generated from Illumina Infinium HumanMethylation27K Beadchip. We found a big discrepancy of selected genes between multiple group testing procedures and group lasso.
Dental impression materials often become contaminated with patients' saliva and blood which creates the potential for cross-infection. It was the purpose of this study to investigate the effects of disinfection of three different rubber impression materials with four different disinfecting solutions. Polysulfide, vinyl polysiloxane and polyether impression materials were mixed according to the manufacturer's directions and samples were formed on a stainless steel model. On removal from the standard model, impressions were immersed in a disinfectant (acid-potentiated glutaraldehyde, phenollic compound, chlorine compound, iodophor) at room tempera tures for ten minutes. After disinfection, the distance between reference points(linear dimension) was measured using the non-contact automatic cordinate measuring projector(MZ-1, Nikon). Through statistical analyses on the data from this study,. the following conclusions were obtained. 1. Polysulfide, vinyl polysiloxane impressions were disinfected without dimensional change.(p>0.05) 2. Polyether impressions which were immersed in acid-potentiated glutaraldehyde were statistically different from control group.(p<0.05) But the amount of shrinkage(0.04%) would not be clinically significant. 3. By immersion of polysulfide, vinyl polysiloxane, polyether impressions in Banicide, Biocide, Multicide plus, sodium hypochlorite for ten minutes, clinically accurate impressions were obtained without dimensional change.
In this study, wool/nylon(50/50%) blend yarn and its fabrics for tra-biz(complex word of travel+business) garment were prepared, and its wear comfort characteristics were investigated through thermal manikin and human-body wearing experiment. In addition, tactile wearing performance from fabric mechanical properties and the dimensional stability and the pilling of the fabric specimen during wearing and dry-cleaning were measured and compared with those of wool 100% fabric specimen. Heat keepability of the wool/nylon(50/50%) blend fabric by thermal manikin experiment was superior than that of wool 100% fabric, this result was verified with human-body wearing experiment and its result coincided well with this experimental result. Tactile wearing performance of the wool/nylon(50/50%) fabric from fabric mechanical properties measured by FAST system was better than that of the wool 100% fabric. The dimensional stability of the wool/nylon(50/50%) fabric was more stable than that of the wool 100% fabric. Because relaxation shrinkage was lower and hygral expansion of wool 100% fabric was more high. However, the breathability and pilling property of the wool/nylon(50/50%) fabric were inferior than those of the wool 100% fabric. The possibility of application for tra-biz garment of wool/nylon(50/50%) blend fabric was observed because of good heat keepability, tactile wearing performance and washing fastness.
Disinfection of dental impressions are necessary due to contamination with patient’s saliva and blood, which is a potential for cross-infection. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of disinfection of four hydrophilic rubber impression materials with three disinfecting solutions, on the dimensional stability and surface hardness of improved stone casts. Three hydrophilic vinyl polysiloxane impression materials(Express, Reprosil, Exafine) and one polyether impression material(Impregum-F) were mixed according to the manufacturer’s directions and impressions were made on a ADA specification No. 19 stainless-steeldie. On removal of the impressions, each impression was immersed in one of the disinfectants(Banicide, Potadine, Clorox) for 10 minutes. After disinfection, type IV improved stone. casts were poured. On this cast, the linear dimension and surface hardness were measuredusing a Measurescope(Nikon, Japan) and a Barcol hardness tester(Barber, Colman Co U. S. A). The results were as follows : 1. The improved stone casts from disinfected Reprosil and Impregum-F impression material did not show dimensional changes(P>0.01). Those from disinfected Express and Exafine impression material showed dimensional changes(P<0.01). The amount of shrinkage was not clinically significant. 2. The improved stone casts from disinfected Express impression material did not exhibit changes in surface hardness(P>0.01), but those from disinfected Reprosil, Exafine, Imp regnum-F impression material showed changes in surface hardness(P<0.01). 3. The dimensinal stability and surface hardness of the improved stone casts were satisfactory using Banicide on Express, all disinfectants used in this study on Reprosil, Potadin and Clorox on Exafine, Banicide and Clorox on Impregum-F. According to these results, immersion disinfection of hydrophilic rubber impression mate rials did not adversely affect the resultant casts. Nevertheless compatibility tests of impression materials and disinfectants should be done when disinfecting impressions.
A general step-by-step simulation for the time-dependent analysis of segmentally-erected prestressed concrete box-girder bridges is presented. A three dimensional finite-element model for the balanced-cantilever construction of segmental bridges, including effects of the load history, material nonlinearity, creep, shrinkage, and aging of concrete and the relaxation of prestressing steel was developed using ABAQUS software. The models included three-dimensional shell elements to model the box-girder walls and Rebar elements representing the prestressing tendons. The step-by-step procedure allows simulating the construction stages, effects of time-dependent deformations of materials and changes in the structural system of the bridges. The structural responses during construction and throughout the service life were traced. A comparison of the developed computer simulation with available experimental results was conducted and good agreement was found. Deflection of the bridge deck, changes in stresses and strains and the redistribution of internal forces were calculated for different examples of bridges, built by the balanced-cantilever method, over thirty-year duration. Significant time-dependent effects on the bridge deflections and redistribution of internal forces and stresses were observed. The ultimate load carrying capacities of the bridges and the behavior before collapse were also determined. It was observed that the ultimate load carrying capacity of such bridges decreases with time as a result of time-dependent effects.
When the complete denture is made, the record base for jaw relation is divided into temporary record base and permanent record base. However, The temporary record base include some disadvantages such as, the lackness of intimate contact between model and base, the lackness of retention during the jaw relation registration, When we obtained jaw relation the permanent record bases made from heat curing resin were utilized. We could get several advantages as follows : 1. The permanent record base provided intimate contact between the model and record base. 2. In fabricating occlusal rim on record base, the dimensional change of record base was little because the permanent record base was lesser influenced to thermal change of occlusal rim than the temporary record base. 3. At the stage of jaw relation, the retention of final denture could be early checked. 4. It could be able to get more accurate registration of jaw relation because all procedure were done on the same base during the jaw relation, artificial teeth arrangement, try-in, and final denture construction. 5. Although there was an inconvenience due to double curing procedure, the shrinkage rate in resin polimerization was relatively reduced so that more dimensional stability could be taken.

An interactive computer program has been developed to design a pattern and risers for the production of castings of high quality. In our system, the user models the shape of a final product by using the system's modeling capability, a pattern is generated in a three dimensional model by eliminating the holes and adding shrinkage allowances and drafts, the proper riser is created automatically, and they are united together to yield the three dimensional model of the portion of a mold assembly. The mold can be completed after the runners and the gating systems are designed, modeled, and united, which will be described in part 2 of this work. The unique feature of this work is a realization of an automatic design of the pattern and risers by integrating the modeling capabilities and the design equations used in the real practice.
In this paper, nonlinear static analysis of three-dimensional cable stayed bridges is performed for the time dependent materials properties such as creep, shrinkage and aging of concrete and relaxation of cable. Manavgat Cable-Stayed Bridge is selected as an application. The bridge located in Antalya, Turkey, was constructed with balanced cantilever construction method. Total length of the bridge is 202 m. The bridge consists of one $\ddot{e}$ shape steel tower. The tower is at the middle of the bridge span. The construction stages and 3D finite element model of bridge are modeled with SAP2000. Large displacement occurs in these types of bridges so geometric nonlinearity is taken into consideration in the analysis by using P-Delta plus large displacement criterion. The time dependent material strength and geometric variations are included in the analysis. Two different finite element analyses carried out which are evaluated with and without construction stages and results are compared with each other. As a result of these analyses, variation of internal forces such as bending moment, axial forces and shear forces for bridge tower and displacement and bending moment for bridge deck are given with detailed. It is seen that construction stage analysis has a remarkable effect on the structural behavior of the bridge.

In gravity die casting, die cooling systems are frequently employed with water cooling to remove the heat of the solidifying metal. Thermal modeling is an important technique in mold design for improving the productivity of the process. Computer simulation system which consists of pre-processor, main solidification simulator and post-processor has been developed for three dimensional solidification analysis of cyclic gravity die casting. The pre-processor is used for mesh generation in a PC system. The modified finite difference method is adopted for the main solidification simulation algorithm during all the casting cycles. The post-processor graphically presents the simulation results. Several experiments in automotive cast piston were carried out. The temperature variations in casting and mold with time are measured experimentally, and the results are compared with calculation results. The effects of cycle number on solidification pattern are also studied. Several experimental results for the prediction of shrinkage defects are compared with calculated results.

One of the most important things for quality to meet ship-production schedule is an accuracy control. A ship is assembled by welding through whole production process, so it is important that loss by correction will not happen as much as possible by using some engineering skills like reverse design, reverse setting and margin for thermal shrinkage. These efforts are a quite effective in fabrication stages, but not in erection stages. If a ship block which consists of common steel is exposed to directional solar radiation, its dimensional accuracy will change high as time by its thermal expansion coefficient. Therefore, the measuring work would be often done at dawn or evening even with having a very accurate device. In this study, an FE analysis method is developed to solve this problem. It can change measured data affected by solar thermal distortion to ones not, even though ship-block is measured at an arbitrary time. It will use the time when measuring, the direction of block and the weather record by satellites. It is confirmed by a comparison between measured data of a ship-block and the result by suggested analysis method. Furthermore, a pre-processing system is also developed for fast application of the suggested analysis method.
