  • This study comparatively analyzed the changes in the dimensional stability and the mechanical properties of stretch knit fabrics associated with washings conditions in order to determine the most appropriate washing method. Polyester and spandex knit fabrics were washed 25 cycles with nine washing condition profiles that controled detergent, hardness. temperature and RPM. The knit fabrics with repeated washings were evaluated by dimensional stability and measured by the KES-FB system. Polyester and spandex fibers have good chemical resistance. However, the changes in the dimensional stability and the mechanical properties were observed in washed knit fabrics. After repeated washings, the knit fabrics washed in an alkali or neutral detergent had good dimensional stability compared with the knit fabric washed in functional detergent. The washed knit fabrics were extended, stiff, rough, and had a smaller volume. The changes were the result of the rearrange of polyester fibers which twisted around spandex core and chemical interactions involving the detergent and the physical and mechanical forces of washing. Especially, using an alkali detergent resulted in increased stiffness and roughness of the knit fabric. In conclusion, the washing in water with low hardness and a neutral detergent can minimize the changes in dimensional stability and mechanical properties of polyester and spandex knit fabric.

  • This paper proposes dimensionless correlations predicting properties of the frost layer formed on a cold flat surface. Experiments are carried out to obtain the correlations with various environmental parameters such as air temperature, air velocity, absolute humidity, and cooling plate temperature. As a result, the frost properties (frost layer thickness, density, surface temperature, thermal conductivity) are correlated as a function of Reynolds number, Fourier number, absolute humidity and non-dimensional temperature by using a dimensional analysis. The correlations agree well with the previous and our experimental data within a maximum error of 10%, and are used to predict the frost properties in the following ranges: Reynolds number of 20216 to 53763, Fourier number of 0.1962 to 2.5128, absolute humidity of 3.22 to 8.47, and non-dimensional temperature of 0.125 to 0.5.

  • Up to now, DC-biased magnetic properties have been measured in one dimension (scalar). However, scalar magnetic properties are insufficient to clarify DC-biased magnetic properties because scalar magnetic properties can only impossibly consider the phase difference between the magnetic flux density B vector and the magnetic field strength H vector. Thus the magnetic field strength H and magnetic flux density B in magnetic materials must be directly measured as a vector quantity (two-dimensional). This paper presents measurement system to clarify the two-dimensional DC-biased magnetic properties.

  • We establish a characterization theorem of elliptic paraboloids in the (n+1)-dimensional Euclidean space 𝔼n+1 with extrinsic properties such as the (n+1)-dimensional volumes of regions enclosed by the hyperplanes and hypersurfaces, and the n-dimensional areas of projections of the sections of hypersurfaces cut off by hyperplanes.

  • The effects of heat treatment on the dimensional stability and bending properties of radiata pine sapwood were investigated. The dimensional stability was almost achieved by heat treatment though the loss of strength was accompanied as a negative effect. The improvement in dimensional stability of wood and the resultant reduction in bending properties were closely related to treatment temperature and duration. The optimum treatment conditions, which could be used to achieve a desired improvement in dimensional stability with resultant losses in modulus of rupture were proposed based on the results obtained in this study.

  • This paper descrived the changes of peel strength wrinkle recovery and dimensional stability after fusing 4 different wool face fabrics with 3 different fusible interlinings. The fusing condition was conducted by fusing press machine under 4kg.f/cm2 at 15$0^{\circ}C$. To determine the effect of the varous physical properties of the fused fabrics face fabrics and interlinings on the peel strength wrinkle recovery and dimensional stability(hygral expansion and relaxation shrinkage) of fused fabrics correlation among the KES values of fused fabrics face fabrics and interlinings to the peel strength rinkle recovery and dimensional stability of fused fabrics were expeerimentally analyzed,. As the results the peel strength was mainly influenced by the cover factor of face fabric and interlinings. After fusing wrinkle recovery and hygral expansion were decreased. The cover factor wrinkle recovery weight thickness shear rigidity and frictional properties of face fabric and the thickness of fused fabrics were not influence to the wrinkle recovery of fused fabrics. In addition the dimensional stabilities of fused fabrics were mainly influenced by the tensile and frictional properties of the wrinkle recovery of fused fabrics. In addition the dimensional stabilities of fused fabrics were mainly influenced by the tensile and frictional properties of the face fabrics.

  • For taking account of the two-dimensional magnetic properties of a grain-oriented electrical steel sheet, the effective anisotropic tensor reluctivity is examined, and a computationally efficient algorithm is suggested by using the response surface method to model the two-dimensional magnetic properties. It is shown that the reconstructed two-dimensional magnetic properties are fairly effective to stabilize the convergence characteristics of the Newton-Raphson iteration in the nonlinear magnetic field analysis.

  • Three different silicone polymer systems, such as aminofunctional, epoxyfunctional, and hydrophilic epoxyfunctional silicone polymers, were applied onto plasma pretreated wool fabric to improve the dimensional properties. The results showed that the plasma pretreatment modified the cuticle surface of the wool fiber and increased the reactivity of wool fabric toward silicone polymers. Felting shrinkage of plasma and silicone treated wool fabric was decreased with different level depending on the applied polymer system. Fabric tear strength and hand were adversely affected by plasma treatment, but these properties were favorably restored on polymer application. Therefore, it has been concluded that the combination of plasma and silicone treatments can achieve the improved dimensional stability, and better performance properties of wool fabric. The surface smoothness appearances of treated fabrics were measured using a new evaluation system, which showed good correspondence with the results of KES-FB4 surface tester.

  • Silicene is one of the most interesting two-dimensional materials, because of not only the extraordinary properties similar to graphene, but also easy compatibility with existing silicon-based devices. However, non-existing graphitic-like structure on silicon and unstable free-standing silicene structure leads to difficulty in commercialization of this material. Therefore, substrates are essential for silicene, which affects various properties of silicene and supporting unstable structure. For maintaining outstanding properties of silicene, van der Waals bonding between silicene and substrate is essential because strong interaction, such as silicene with metal, breaks the band structure of silicene. Therefore, we review the stability of silicene on other two-dimensional materials for van der Waals bonding. In addition, the properties of silicene are reviewed for silicene-based heterostructure.
