Motor Protection and Control with Digital Protective Relays (디지털 보호 계전기를 이용한 모터 보호 및 제어)

  • In this paper, intelligent methods using digital protection relay in power management and control system is developed in order to protect power systems by means of timely fault detection during operation and control at starting for induction motor which have various load environments and capacities in power systems. The digital protective relay was designed with DSP CPU(TMS320C31) to Protect and measure more quickly and precisely. The test result on the basis of KEMCl120 and IEC60255, show that the operation time error of the digital motor protection relay is improved within $\pm$5%. Also, we can control motors at starting according to starting types with simple method as programmable sequence editor. So we can improve the demerits of high cost and much manhour for rework.

  • This paper discusses the dynamic test of distance relay on transmission line connected unified power flow controller(UPFC) using the real-time digital simulator(RTDS). Depending on operating conditions of UPFC, the trip characteristics of distance relay is influenced by the prefault conditions. In this paper, UPFC is established using the RTDS and then relay test is performed on real time.

  • In this paper, the frequency compensator for digital protective relay is introduced. Due to sudden appearance of generation-load or fault in power system, the frequency can deviate from its nominal value. The Orthogonal filter adopted to digital protective relay is exposed to the problem. Therefore, the frequency variation makes a difficult to protective function and power measurement in digital protective relay. The essential property of the proposed algorithm presented is its outstanding immunity to both signal orthogonal component magnitudes and DFT filter gain variations which ensures below 0.05Hz accuracy of estimation. Additionally, the proposed method has excellent characteristics with low signal sampling rate. Based on the frequency estimation, author design under frequency protection relay for generator and verifies its performance with several experimental tests.

  • In recent years, with the continuous development of modem power system, the need for high performance protection to meet the customers' requests for more stable and reliable power supply has become increasingly emphasized. So, there is urgent need for a proper testing platform about not only existing digital protection relay but also new digital protection relay on the transmission line. It is also dynamic-state test which can test the performance of digital relay. This paper suggests basic system model for testing transmission line protection using PSCAD/EMTDC, and presents the process of the component modeling in the basic system.

  • In this work, the digital simulator for testing of digital protective relay is presented. The proposed simulator software has EMTP simulation data file conversion, sequence waveform generation, user define simulation data generation, communication engine, data analysis engine and measurements function etc. The simulator hardware is designed using 32bit floating point DSP architecture to achieve flexibility and high speed operation. This simulator is tested to evaluate the performance of relay simulator by using a output data of simulation model on EMTP.

  • This paper shows a novel interference cancellation method of relay utilizing to the CGM algorithm in wireless communication environments. It is a problem that relay have interference cause by feedback signal of it. CGM algorithm obtained weight value that can remove the interference due to feedback signal of relay. In this paper, we confirm that performance of CGM algorithm is far superior with suitable cancellation value to remove the feedback signal. Also, we implement CGM module to verify the real-time processing of CGM algorithm using to DSP. Based on the analysis from computer simulation, it is observed that proposed algorithm is suitable for the relay in time-varying environment.

  • This paper summarizes an education and training system for the auto-reclosing of power transmission system using a real time digital simulator. The system is developed to understand the principle of reclosing and the sequence of automatic reclosing schemes, and practice the effects of reclosing actions to power system in real-time simulator. This study is concentrated into the following two parts. One is the development of real time education and training system of automatic reclosing schemes. For this, we use the RTDS(real time digital simulator) and the actual digital protective relay. The mathematical relay model of RTDS and the actual distance relay which is equipped automatic reclosing function are also used. The other is the user friendly interface between trainee and trainer. The various interface displays are used for user handing and result display. The conditions of automatic reclosing which is a number of reclosing, reclosing dead time, reset time, and so on, can be changed by the user interface panel. A number of scenario cases are reserved for the education and training. Through the test, we verified that the proposed system can be effectively used to accomplish the education and training of automatic reclosing.

  • In this paper present Autonomous Adaptive Digital Over Current Relay which acts autonomous setting using voltage and current measured by relay in the change of power systems. Automation of relay setting is required for distribution automation although manual relay setting is used at present. This paper presents Autonomous Relay Setting which knows change of the power system and acquires setting element using the Recursive Least Squares. Relay setting is very difficult work. But proposed relay is expected to decrease burden of relay setting using acquired information of power system change and autonomous setting. Also fast protective ability is expected according to change of power system.

  • This paper describes real time dynamic tests on the digital distance relay using new digital test system including RTDS(Real Time Digital Simulator) in KEPRI. The RTDS is developed by the Manitoba HVDC Reserch Centre and consists of specialized hardware and software which allows transients simulation of electrical power systems in real time. From high impedance fault test, it is known that the characteritics of distance reach is influenced by load flow. A detailed discussion of relay test using the RTDS simulator, high impedance faults and test results are included in the paper.

  • Protective relay play a crucial role in the proper operation of a power system, and the reliable transfer of electrical power. This paper deals with the design and implementation of a digital protective relay on a single chip. Implementation on the FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) of the chip of digital protective relay. This protective relaying chip monitors the frequency and the voltage and current of the power system. And report the voltage, the current. the frequency, active power and reactive power.
