Photonic True-Time Delay for Phased-Array Antenna System using Dispersion Compensating Module and a Multiwavelength Fiber Laser

  • An optical true-time delay beam-forming system using a tunable dispersion compensating module (DCM) for dense-wavelength division modulation (DWDM) and a multiwavelength fiber ring laser for a phased array antenna is proposed. The multiwavelength fiber ring laser has one output that includes four wavelengths; and four outputs that include only single-wavelength. The advantage of such a multiwavelength fiber ring laser is that it minimizes the number of devices in the phased array antenna system. The time delays according to wavelengths, which are assigned for each antenna element, are obtained from the tunable DCM. The tunable DCM based on a temperature adjustable Fabry-Perot etalon is used. As an experimental result, a DCM could be used to obtain the change of the beam angle by adjusting the dispersion value of the DCM at the fixed lasing wavelengths of the fiber ring laser in the proposed optical true-time delay.

  • As many sensors and actuators are used in automated systems, various industrial networks are adopted for digital control system. In order to take advantages of the networking, however, the network implementation should be carefully designed to satisfy real-time requirements considering network delays. This paper presents the implementation scheme of a networked control system via Profibus-DP network. More specifically, the effect of the network delay on the control performance was evaluated on a Profibus-DP testbed, and a GA-based PID tuning algorithm is proposed to design controllers suitable for networked control systems.

Expert형 제어기법에 의한 자기동조 제어기에 관한 연구 (A Study on the STC Utilizing Expert Control Technique)

  • In systematic tuning of digital STC parameters, systems with time-varying parameters and systems with time-varying delays are studied individually because of many preconditions and difficulties. In order to eliminate all these difficulties effectively, the expert control technique is required to enhance STC control functions. In this paper, an expert controller, a STC utilizing expert control technique, for process control is designed. The expert controller is composed of an unstability indicator for detecting plant unstability, an expert back-up controller and an expert STC which are switched each other by the unstability indication, and expert system with knowledge base and inference engine. This expert controller is able to perform control functions successfuly for the following` 1) a system which has unknown and time-varying delay time, 2) a time-varying system which has unknown parameters, and 3) a system with minimun and non-minimum phase. The robust control function is demonstrated by computer simulations.

  • In this paper, a platoon merging is considered as a remote-controlled system with the state represented by a stochastic process. In this system, it becomes to encounter situations where a single decision maker controls a large number of subsystems, and observation and control signals are sent over a communication channel with finite capacity and significant transmission delays. Unlike classical estimation problem in which the observation is a continuous process corrupted by additive noise, there is a constraint that the observation must be coded and transmitted over a digital communication channel with finite capaci쇼. A recursive coder-estimator sequence is a state estimation scheme based on observations transmitted with finite communication capacity constraint. Using the coder-estimator sequence, the remote control station designs a feedback controller. In this paper, we introduce a stochastic model for the lead vehicle in a platoon of vehicles considering the angle between a road surface and a horizontal plane as a stochastic process. The simulation results show that the inter-vehicle distance and the deviation from the desired inter-vehicle distance are well regulated.

Identifying Barriers to Big Data Analytics: Design-Reality Gap Analysis in Saudi Higher Education

  • The spread of cloud computing, digital computing, and the popular social media platforms have led to increased growth of data. That growth of data results in what is known as big data (BD), which seen as one of the most strategic resources. The analysis of these BD has allowed generating value from massive raw data that helps in making effective decisions and providing quality of service. With Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia seeks to invest in BD technologies, but many challenges and barriers have led to delays in adopting BD. This research paper aims to search in the state of Big Data Analytics (BDA) in Saudi higher education sector, identify the barriers by reviewing the literature, and then to apply the design-reality gap model to assess these barriers that prevent effective use of big data and highlights priority areas for action to accelerate the application of BD to comply with Vision 2030.

발달지연 아동의 학교준비도 향상을 위한 작업치료 프로그램 효과에 대한 사례 연구: 적응기술, 일상생활기술 영역을 중심으로 (A Case Study on the Effects of Occupational Therapy Program on Improving School Readiness in Children With Developmental Delays: Focusing on Adaptation and Daily Living Skills)

  • 목적 : 본 연구는 발달지연 아동을 대상으로 작업치료 프로그램이 학교준비도의 적응기술 영역과 일상생활 기술 영역에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구방법 : 본 연구는 발달 지연의 만 5세 8개월 남아 1명을 대상으로 하였다. 프로그램은 1주일에 2번, 4주 동안 총 8회기 진행되었다. Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM)를 실시하였으며 목표 활동은 수업 준비하기와 화장실 이용하기였다. 사전-사후 검사와 후속 평가를 통하여 대상자의 변화를 비교하였다. 자료 분석은 대상자의 수행을 비디오로 녹화하여 실시하였다. 결과 : COPM의 결과는 수업 준비하기와 화장실 이용하기에서 수행도와 만족도 모두 향상을 보였다. 처리기술은 수업 준비하기에서 7개, 화장실 이용하기에서 8개의 향상을 나타냈다. 작업 수행 관찰결과 수업 준비하기와 화장실 이용하기에서 사후 검사와 후속 평가에서 향상된 결과를 나타냈다. 결론 : 작업치료는 발달지연 아동의 학교준비도 적응기술과 일상생활기술을 향상시키며 학교준비에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다.

  • 디지털 전환이 다양한 분야에서 가속되고 있는 가운데, 금융시장에서도 디지털·전자화된 화폐를 포함한 지급결제 수단 발전에 관한 관심이 집중되고 있다. 그중 중앙은행 디지털화폐(Central Bank Digital Currency, CBDC)는 기존 실물 화폐를 대체할 수 있는 미래 디지털화폐로 가치변동이 없으며 기존 실물 화폐인 현금과1:1 등가교환이 가능하다. 최근 국내·외에서는 CBDC 출시를 위해 다양한 연구 및 개발을 진행하고 있다. 그러나, 현재 CBDC 시스템은 대용량 거래에 대한 처리 속도 지연, 응답대기시간 지연 및 네트워크 부하 등 CBDC 확장성에 관한 문제가 존재한다. 범용적인 CBDC 시스템을 구축하기 위해서는 기존 블록체인의 낮은 처리량 및 네트워크 부하 문제 등의 확장성 문제를 해결해야 한다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 범용 CBDC 구축을 위한 강화학습 기반의 CBDC 환경에서 대용량 데이터에 대한 처리량 및 네트워크 부하 문제 해결 기술을 제안한다. 제안 기술은 기존 시스템 대비 최대 64배 이상의 처리량 증대 및 20% 이상의 네트워크 부하를 감소할 수 있다.

  • In robotics and other fields of engineering, techniques for artificial reality or virtual reality are focused on and studied extensively, e.g., virtual existence for tele-operator systems in robotics, and virtual reality of designed objects in architecture. In order to realize the system we should create physical stimulations according to internal models created by experiences in a human brain. The internal model does not have to have direct connections to the real world, however, the stimulation must be signals such that the internal model are retrieved in a human brain. In this paper we propose a technique for tele-virtual reality of dynamic mechanical models, which means that one dynamic mechanical model can be shared by peoples in distant places. Since a stability issue due to time delays arises in the system, we employed a scattering technique developed for a tele-operator system and a kind of passive adaptive controllers. Furthermore, restrictions due to a simple digital implementation of the scattering transformation are discussed and some conditions for stability are shown. The proposed method is applied to a remote tug of war system and the effectiveness is verified.

지상파 DMB 컨텐츠의 MPEG-4 BIFS 최적화 기법 (MPEG-4 BIFS Optimization for Interactive T-DMB Content)

  • The Digital Multimedia Broadcasting(DMB) system is developed to offer high quality multimedia content to the mobile environment. The system adopts the MPEG-4 standard for the main video, audio and other media format. For providing interactive contents, it also adopts the MPEG-4 scene description that refers to the spatio-temporal specifications and behaviors of individual objects. With more interactive contents, the scene description also needs higher bitrate. However, the bandwidth for allocating meta data, such as scene description is restrictive in the mobile environment. On one hand, the DMB terminal renders each media stream according to the scene description. Thus the binary format for scene(BIFS) stream corresponding to the scene description should be decoded and parsed in advance when presenting media data. With this reasoning, the transmission delay of the BIFS stream would cause the delay in transmitting whole audio-visual scene presentations, although the audio or video streams are encoded in very low bitrate. This paper presents the effective optimization technique in adapting the BIFS stream into the expected bitrate without any waste in bandwidth and avoiding transmission delays inthe initial scene description for interactive DMB content.

The simulation results show that the intervehicle spacings and the deviations from the desired intervehicle spacing are well regulated.
