동물 사체의 고온 혐기성 소화 (Thermophilic Anaerobic Digestion of Animal Carcasses)

  • 동물 사체 처리가 축산업에 큰 부담이 되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 고온 혐기성 소화에 의한 동물 사체의 처리 타당성을 검토하는데 있다. 고기와 내장을 사용하여 수행된 회분식 실험 결과 동물 사체가 혐기성 고온 조건에서 분해 가능함이 확인되었다. 초기 기질 volatile solids (VS) 1.5~7.7% 조건에서 유기물 제거 효율과 메탄 생성 모두 52.7~58.5%, 220~243 ml/g VS의 양호한 효율을 보였다. 그러나 연속 실험에서는 VS 2.5% 이상의 조건에서 혐기성 미생물의 활동이 암모니아 독성에 의해 저해됨이 발견되었다. 암모니아가 동물 사체 내의 단백질이 분해되는 과정에서 생성되며 혐기성 조건에서 분해되지 않으므로, 암모니아 농도를 낮추는 방법은 희석이 유일하다고 판단된다. 따라서 고온 혐기성 소화를 적용할 시, 동물 사체의 단독 처리 보다는 질소 농도가 상대적으로 낮은 다른 폐수 또는 폐기물과의 혼합 소화를 고려하는 것이 타당할 것으로 사료된다.

Evaluating Feeding of Organic Waste and Stirring Interval to Optimize Anaerobic Digestion

  • Purpose: In the process of anaerobic digestion, stirring of the digester and feeding of organic waste into the digester have been considered important factors for digestive efficiency. The objective of this study was to determine the most appropriate conditions for both stirring interval of the digester and organic feeding frequency in order to improve anaerobic digestion performance. Methods: A 5-L anaerobic digester was used to conduct continuous batch tests to process swine manure and food waste. Four different stirring intervals of the digester were used: 5 min/h, 10 min/2 h, 15 min/3 h, and 20 min/4 h. Results: The application of swine manure to the digester every 5 min/h resulted in the highest production of biogas as well as the highest removal rates of volatile solids (VS) and total chemical oxygen demand. Stirring the digester with a mixture of swine manure and food waste at intervals of 5min/h and 10min/2 h produced the highest biogas yields of 515.3 mL/gVS and 521.1 mL/gVS, respectively. To test different supply frequencies, organic waste was added to the digester in either a 12-hor 24-h cycle. The 24-h cycle produced 1.5-fold greater biogas production than that during the 12-h cycle. Conclusions: Thus, from the above results, to optimize anaerobic digestion performance, the ideal stirring condition must be 5min/h for swine manure feeding and 10min/2h for co-digestion of food waste and swine manure in a 24-h cycle.

  • 1. Objectives: The purpose of this study was verify the difference in digestion, feces, sweat and urination characteristics according to Sasang Constitution among subjects in the age range of their 20s and 60s. 2. Methods: Three hundred and thirty eight participants were recruited in the age range of their 20s and 264 participants in the age range of their 60s. All the participants' Sasang Constitutions were diagnosed by Sasang Constitutional medicine expert. Then their digestion, feces, sweat and urination characteristics were assessed through the questionnaire. 3. Results: 1)Regarding digestion, Soeumin in all age ranges had bad appetites and Soeumin in their 20s had low digestibility. 2)Regarding feces, the daily defecation frequency showed no difference according to constitution. Only Soeumin in their 20s showed diarrheal state of stool. 3)Regarding sweat, Taeeumin usually perspired more in their 20s and there was no difference in the feeling after sweating according to age and constitution. 4)Regarding urination, frequency and strength showed no difference according to age and constitution. 4. Conclusions: Some difference was observed in the digestion, feces and sweat characteristics according to Sasang Constitution but these characteristics were susceptible to change in different age ranges. There was no difference in urination according to constitution.

혐기성소화(嫌氣性消化)의 동역학(動力學) : 고부하시(高負荷時)의 온도영향(溫度影響) (Kinetics of Anaerobic Digestion : Temperature Effects on Highly Loaded Digesters)

  • 혐기성소화(嫌氣性消化)에 미치는 온도(溫度)의 영향(影響)을 가장 효과적으로 파악할 수 있는 체류시간(滯留時間) 5일(日)에서 인공(人工)슬러지를 대상으로 $35{\sim}55^{\circ}C$의 소화실험(消化實驗)을 행하였다. 소화온도증가(消化溫度增加)에 따라 메탄발효(醱酵)의 저해(沮害)가 감소하여, 중온(中溫) 및 중간영역(中間領域)의 온도(溫度)에서는 잔발효(酸醱酵)가 우세하였으나 $55^{\circ}C$에서는 활발한 메탄발효(醱酵)가 이루어졌다. 온도(溫度)의 변화(變化)는 미생물활성(微生物活性)뿐 아니라 슬러지의 물리(物理), 화학적(化學的) 특성(特性)에도 영향(影響)을 미친다고 추정된다. 또한 유입(流入) 슬러지의 희석(稀釋)에 의하여 소화저해(消化沮害)가 크게 감소하여 모든 온도(溫度)에서 활발한 메탄발효(醱酵)가 가능하였다. 소화효율(消化效率)은 수리학적(水理學的) 부하량외(負荷量外)에 유기물부하량(有機物負荷量)에도 지배받음을 알 수 있었다. 소화효율(消化效率)의 급격한 저해(沮害)가 발생된다고 보고된 $40{\sim}45^{\circ}C$에서도 뚜렷한 저해(沮害)는 없었다. 한편 소화온도증가(消化溫度增加)에 따라 소화(消化)슬러지의 침강특성(沈降特性)도 향상되었다.

Influence of Kaolinite Clay Supplementation on Growth Performance and Digestive Function in Finishing Calf-fed Holstein Steers

  • Two experiments were conducted to examine the influence of kaolinite clay supplementation (0%, 1%, or 2% diet dry matter [DM] basis) on characteristics of digestion (Trial 1) and growth performance (Trial 2) in calf-fed Holstein steers fed a finishing diet. In Trial 1, 6 Holstein steers ($539{\pm}15kg$) with ruminal and duodenal cannulas were used to evaluate treatment effects on characteristics of digestion. Kaolinite clay supplementation decreased total tract DM digestion (linear effect, p<0.01) without effects ($p{\geq}0.10$) on site and extent of digestion of organic matter, neutral detergent fiber, starch and N, or ruminal microbial efficiency. There were no treatment effects on ruminal pH, volatile fatty acids molar proportions or estimated methane production. In Trial 2, 108 Holstein steers ($132.4{\pm}5.6kg$) were used in a 308-d study to evaluate growth performance and carcass characteristics. There were no treatment effects (p>0.10) on average daily gain (ADG) and gain efficiency (ADG/dry matter intake). Kaolinite supplementation tended (linear effect, p = 0.08) to increase dietary net energy (NE) during the initial 112-d period. However, the overall (308-d) effect of supplementation dietary NE was not appreciable (p>0.20). However, due to the inertness of kaolinite, itself, the ratio of observed-to-expected dietary NE increased with kaolinite supplementation. This effect was more pronounced (linear effect, $p{\leq}0.03$) during the initial 224 d of the study. Overall (308 d), kaolinite supplementation tended to increase (linear effect, p = 0.07) dietary NE by 3% over expected. Kaolinite supplementation did not affect carcass weight, yield grade, longissimus area, kidney, pelvic and heart fat, and quality grade, but decreased (linear effect, p = 0.01) dressing percentage. It is concluded that kaolinite supplementation up to 2% of diet DM may enhance energetic efficiency of calf-fed Holstein steers in a manner independent of changes in characteristics of ruminal and total tract digestion.

In vitro Solubility of Copper(II) Sulfate and Dicopper Chloride Trihydroxide for Pigs

  • This study was conducted to determine the solubility of copper (Cu) in two sources of copper(II) sulfate ($CuSO_4$) including monohydrate and pentahydrate and three sources of dicopper chloride trihydroxide (dCCTH) including ${\alpha}$-form (dCCTH-${\alpha}$), ${\beta}$-form (dCCTH-${\beta}$), and a mixture of ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-form (dCCTH-${\alpha}{\beta}$) at different pH and a 3-step in vitro digestion assay for pigs. In Exp. 1, Cu sources were incubated in water-based buffers at pH 2.0, 3.0, 4.8, and 6.8 for 4 h using a shaking incubator at $39^{\circ}C$. The $CuSO_4$ sources were completely dissolved within 15 min except at pH 6.8. The solubility of Cu in dCCTH-${\alpha}$ was greater (p<0.05) than dCCTH-${\beta}$ but was not different from dCCTH-${\alpha}{\beta}$ during 3-h incubation at pH 2.0 and during 2-h incubation at pH 3.0. At pH 4.8, there were no significant differences in solubility of Cu in dCCTH sources. Copper in dCCTH sources were non-soluble at pH 6.8. In Exp. 2, the solubility of Cu was determined during the 3-step in vitro digestion assay for pigs. All sources of Cu were completely dissolved in step 1 which simulated digestion in the stomach. In Exp. 3, the solubility of Cu in experimental diets including a control diet and diets containing 250 mg/kg of additional Cu from five Cu sources was determined during the in vitro digestion assay. The solubility of Cu in diets containing additional Cu sources were greater (p<0.05) than the control diet in step 1. In conclusion, the solubility of Cu was influenced by pH of digesta but was not different among sources based on the in vitro digestion assay.

Effects of Dietary Nitrogen Sources on Fiber Digestion and Ruminal Fluid Characteristics in Sheep Fed Wheat Straw

  • Fifteen Inner Mongolian wethers with permanent ruminal and duodenal cannulas were used to study the effects of dietary rumen-undegradable protein (RUP) to rumen-degradable protein (RDP) ratios or protein sources on fiber digestion in the gastrointestinal tract and ruminal fluid characteristics. Fiber digestion and ruminal fermentation were not affected (p>0.05) by dietary RUP to RDP ratios (from 1.54 to 0.72). Soybean meal supplementation improved ruminal digestion. Fish meal supplementation increased (p<0.05) the ruminal degradability of fiber. The different RUP to RDP ratios (from 1.54 to 0.72) did not influence (p>0.05) ruminal fluid pH, but there were differences (p<0.05) in ruminal fluid $NH_3-N$ concentration because of urea replacement. Soybean meal as a dietary protein source decreased (p<0.05) ruminal fluid pH and increased (p<0.05 or p<0.01) $NH_3-N$, acetate, propionate and butyrate concentrations in the rumen. Fish meal as a dietary protein source decreased (p<0.05 or p<0.01) ruminal $NH_3-N$ and acetate concentrations and increased (p<0.05) ruminal propionate concentration. It can be concluded that dietary protein sources have more significant effect on fiber digestion and ruminal fermentation than different dietary RUP to RDP ratios, when the dietary crude protein requirements of growing sheep are satisfied.

단상 및 이상혐기소화공정을 이용한 음폐수의 바이오에너지화 (The Single- and Two-Phase Anaerobic Digestion of Food Waste Effluent)

  • 음식물폐기물 처리 과정에서 발생되는 음폐수의 효율적인 처리를 위한 혐기소화공정을 선정하기 위하여, 단상 및 이상혐기소화공정을 대상으로 데모플랜트(일 5톤 처리용량)를 활용하여 성능을 비교하였다. TS, VS, tCOD 및 sCOD 처리율을 비교하여 보면 모든 항목에서 단상혐기소화공정의 처리율이 우수하였지만, 바이오가스는 오히려 이상혐기소화공정에서 더 많이 발생하였다. 이는 단상혐기소화공정의 경우 운전기간 동안 음폐수 투입량이 상대적으로 적어 처리효율은 뛰어 났지만, 음폐수 투입량 변동에 따른 바이오가스의 발생이 민감하게 반응을 한 결과로 해석된다. 이상혐기소화공정의 경우 총 COD가 상대적으로 매우 낮은 수준임에도 불구하고 바이오가스 발생량은 단상혐기소화공정보다 많이 발생되었다. 이는 음폐수 투입량이 일정하게 유지되었고, 산발효공정과 메탄발효공정이 분리되어 운영됨으로써 공정 전체가 안정적으로 운영되었기 때문인 것으로 판단된다. 음폐수처리를 위해서는 공정 선정이 중요하지만 단순 유기물처리율 비교만으로는 종합적인 평가가 어려우며, 이를 보완하기 위하여 원료성상, 투입량, 처리율, 운전기간, 바이오가스발생량 등을 종합하여 소화성능을 평가하여야 할 것이다.

Maximizing biogas production by pretreatment and by optimizing the mixture ratio of co-digestion with organic wastes

  • Anaerobic digestion is a popular sewage sludge (Ss) treatment method as it provides significant pollution control and energy recovery. However, the low C/N ratio and poor biodegradability of Ss necessitate pretreatment methods that improve solubilization under anaerobic conditions in addition to anaerobic co-digestion with other substrates to improve the process efficiency. In this study, three pretreatment methods, namely microwave irradiation, ultrasonication, and heat treatment, were investigated, and the corresponding improvement in methane production was assessed. Additionally, the simplex centroid design method was utilized to determine the optimum mixture ratio of food waste (Fw), livestock manure (Lm), and Ss for maximum methane yield. Microwave irradiation at 700 W for 6 min yielded the highest biodegradability (62.0%), solubilization efficiency (59.7%), and methane production (329 mL/g VS). The optimum mixture ratio following pretreatment was 61.3% pretreated Ss, 28.6% Fw, and 10.1% Lm. The optimum mixture ratio without pretreatment was 33.6% un-pretreated Ss, 46.0% Fw, and 20.4% Lm. These results indicate that the choice of pretreatment method plays an important role in efficient anaerobic digestion and can be applied in operational plants to enhance methane production. Co-digestion of Ss with Fw and Lm was also beneficial.

Hot digestion법(去)에 의(依)한 모나자이트정광(精鑛)의 알카리분해(分解) 및 염산침출(鹽酸浸出) 거동(擧動) (NaOH Decomposition and Hydrochloric Acid Leaching of Monazite by Hot Digestion Method)

  • 본 연구에서는 인산염계 모나자이트정광을 수산화나트륨 용액에 의한 분해와 영산 침출공정을 이용하여 최적의 희토류 침출조건을 확립하고자 하였다. 모나자이트정광의 hot digestion 분해 및 염산침출 실험용 수행결과 알카리 분해는 NaOH/TREO 몰비 15, 분해반응온도 $140^{\circ}C$, 분해반응시간 2시간 이상의 조건에서 분해율 90% 이상을 나타내었다. 그리고 알카리 분해 산물의 염산침출 반응 최적조건은 염산농도 6N, 침출반응 온도 $70^{\circ}C$, 침출반응시간 2시간 및 광액농도 15% 내외가 가장 효과적이었고, 이 때 회토류 침출율은 90% 이상 이었다.
