This study examines market acceptance for DMB service, one of the touted new business models in Korea's next-generation mobile communications service market, using adoption end diffusion of innovation as the theoretical framework. Market acceptance for DMB service was assessed by predicting the demand for the service using the Bass model, and the demand variability over time was then analyzed by integrating the innovation adoption model proposed by Rogers (2003). In our estimation of the Bass model, we derived the coefficient of innovation and coefficient of imitation, using actual diffusion data from the mobile telephone service market. The maximum number of subscribers was estimated based on the result of a survey on satellite DMB service. Furthermore, to test the difference in diffusion pattern between mobile phone service and satellite DMB service, we reorganized the demand data along the diffusion timeline according to Rogers' innovation adoption model, using the responses by survey subjects concerning their respective projected time of adoption. The comparison of the two demand prediction models revealed that diffusion for both took place forming a classical S-curve. Concerning variability in demand for DMB service, our findings, much in agreement with Rogers' view, indicated that demand was highly variable over time and depending on the adopter group. In distinguishing adopters into different groups by time of adoption of innovation, we found that income and lifestyle (opinion leadership, novelty seeking tendency and independent decision-making) were variables with measurable impact. Among the managerial variables, price of reception device, contents type, subscription fees were the variables resulting in statistically significant differences. This study, as an attempt to measure the market acceptance for satellite DMB service, a leading next-generation mobile communications service product, stands out from related studies in that it estimates the nature and level of acceptance for specific customer categories, using theories of innovation adoption and diffusion and based on the result of a survey conducted through one-to-one interviews. The authors of this paper believe that the theoretical framework elaborated in this study and its findings can be fruitfully reused in future attempts to predict demand for new mobile communications service products.
A new ion transport code for planetary ionospheric studies has been developed with consideration of velocity differences among ion species involving ion-ion collision. Most of previous planetary ionosphere models assumed that ions diffuse through non-moving ion and neutral background in order to consolidate continuity and momentum equations for ions into a simple set of diffusion equations. The simplification may result in unreliable density profiles of ions at high altitudes where ion velocities are fast and their velocity differences are significant enough to cause inaccuracy when computing ion-ion collision. A new code solves explicitly one-dimensional continuity and momentum equations for ion densities and velocities by utilizing divided Jacobian matrices in matrix inversion necessary to the Newton iteration procedure. The code has been applied to Martian nightside ionosphere models, as an example computation. The computed density profiles of $O^+,\;OH^+$, and $HCO^+$ differ by more than a factor of 2 at altitudes higher than 200 km from a simple diffusion model, whereas the density profile of the dominant ion, $O_2^+$, changes little. Especially, the density profile of $HCO^+$ is reduced by a factor of about 10 and its peak altitude is lowered by about 40 km relative to a simple diffusion model in which $HCO^+$ ions are assumed to diffuse through non-moving ion background, $O_2^+$. The computed effects of the new code on the Martian nightside models are explained readily in terms of ion velocities that were solved together with ion densities, which were not available from diffusion models. The new code should thus be expected as a significantly improved tool for planetary ionosphere modelling.
This paper models knowledge diffusion on an inter-organizational network. Based on literatures related to knowledge diffusion, the model considers critical factors that affect diffusion behavior including nodal property, relational property, and environmental property. We examine the relationships among network structure, knowledge search, and diffusion performance. Through a massive simulation runs based on the agent-based model, we find that the average path length of a network decreases a firm's cumulative knowledge stock, whereas the clustering coefficient of a firm has no significant relationship with the firm's knowledge. We also find that there is an interaction effect of network structure and the range of knowledge search on knowledge diffusion. Specifically, in a network of a larger average path length (APL) the marginal effect of search conduct is significantly greater than in that of a smaller APL.
The fluorescence quenching of 2, 5-di-(5-tert-butyl-2-benzoxazolyl)-thiophene (BBOT) by aniline in five different solvents namely heptane, hexane, cyclohexane, dioxane and acetonitrile has been carried out at room temperature with a view to understand the quenching mechanisms. The experimental results show positive deviation in the Stern-Volmer plots in all the solvents. In order to interpret these results we have invoked the Ground state complex and sphere of action static quenching models. Using these models various rate parameters have been determined. The magnitudes of these parameters suggest that sphere of action static quenching model agrees well with the experimental results. Hence this positive deviation is attributed to the static and dynamic quenching. Further, with the use of Finite Sink approximation model, it was possible to check these bimolecular reactions as diffusion-limited and to estimate independently distance parameter R$^1$ and mutual diffusion coefficient D. Finally an attempt has been made to correlate the values of R$^1$ and D with the values of the encounter distance R and the mutual diffusion coefficient D determined using the Edward's empirical relation and Stokes-Einstein relation.

Recently, to utilize conutry effectively, many concrete structures such as Young Jong Do New Airport. SeoHae Bridege are being constructed. Therefore, Corrosion of steel reinforcement of concrete structures become more and more serious, and prediction of service lives of concrete structures considering steel corrosion is needed much more. The methodologies of predicting service life have been studied for various views, but mathematical modelling based on diffusion theory is generally applied. The purpose of this paper is to investigate current mathematical models, and suggest theoretical basis on estimation of service lives of concrete structures in marine environment. Thus, the procedures for selecting variables such as threshold chloride concentration, diffusion coefficient, etc are suggested, and the service lives calculated through these procedures for various diffusion coefficients and cover depths are presented.
In this paper we study implicit-explicit (IMEX) methods combined with a semi-Lagrangian scheme to evaluate the prices of fixed strike arithmetic Asian options under jump-diffusion models. An Asian option is described by a two-dimensional partial integro-differential equation (PIDE) that has no diffusion term in the arithmetic average direction. The IMEX methods with the semi-Lagrangian scheme to solve the PIDE are discretized along characteristic curves and performed without any fixed point iteration techniques at each time step. We implement numerical simulations for the prices of a European fixed strike arithmetic Asian put option under the Merton model to demonstrate the second-order convergence rate.
A one-dimensional eddy diffusion model and a mixed-layer model are developed and applied to simulate the vertical temperature profiles in lakes. Also the running results of each method are compared and analyzed. In an eddy diffusion model, molecular diffusivity is neglected and eddy diffusivity which does not need lake-specific fitting parameter and constant lake's level are applied. The heat exchanges at the water surface and the bottom are formulated by the energy balance and zero energy gradient, respectively. In a mixed-layer model, two layers approach which has a constant thickness is adopted. Application of these models which use explicit finite difference an Runge-Kutta methods respectively demonstrates that the models efficiently simulate water temperatures.
It is well-documented that the major deterioration of coastal RC structures is chloride-induced corrosion. Therefore, regional investigations are necessary for durability based design and evaluation of the proposed service life prdiction models. In this paper, four reinforced concrete jetties exposed to severe marine environment were monitored to assess the long term chloride penetration at 6 months to 96 months. Also, some accelerated durability tests were performed on standard samples in laboratory. As a result, two time-dependent equations are proposed for basic parameters of chloride diffusion into concrete and then the corrosion initiation time is estimated by a developed probabilistic service life model Also, two famous service life prediction models are compared using chloride profiles obtained from structures after about 40 years in the tidal exposure conditions. The results confirm that the influence of concrete quality on diffusion coefficients is related to the concrete pore structure and the time dependence is due to chemical reactions of sea water ions with hydration products which lead a reduction in pore structure. Also, proper attention to the durability properties of concrete may extend the service life of marine structures greater than fifty years, even in harsh environments.
We studied the metal-distribution of isolated Milky-way mass galaxy using various hydrodynamic solvers and investigated the difference of the result between AMR and SPH codes. In particle-based codes, physical quantities like mass or metallicity defined in each particle are conserved unless being injected explicitly by the effect of the supernova, whereas in the Eulerian codes the diffusion is simply accomplished by hydro-equation. Therefore, without including explicit physics of diffusion on the SPH- codes, the metal mixing in the galaxy or CGM only can be accomplished by the direct motion of the particles, however, the standard-SPH codes depress the instability of the turbulent fluid mixing. In this work, we simulated under common initial conditions, common gas-physics like cooling-heating models, and star-formation feedback using ENZO(AMR) GIZMO and GADGET-2 codes. We additionally included a metal-diffusion algorithm on the SPH-codes, which follows the subgrid-turbulent mixing model investigated by Shen et al. (2010) and compared the effect of the metal-outflow on the halo region of the galaxy in different hydro-solvers. We also found that for the implementation of the diffusion scheme in the SPH-codes, the existence of a sufficient number of the gas-particles, which is the carrier of the metals, is necessary. So we tested a new initial condition for proper implementation of the diffusion scheme on the SPH simulations. By comparing the metal-contamination of the circumgalactic medium with different hydrodynamics models, we quantify the diffusion strength of AMR codes using diffusion parameterization of the SPH codes and also suggest the calibration solutions in the different behavior of codes in metal-outflow.

In order to analyze the densification behaviour of stainless steel powder compacts during hot isostatic pressing (HIP) at elevated temperatures, a power-law creep constitutive model based on the plastic deformation theory for porous materials was applied to the densification. Various densification mechanisms including interparticle boundary diffusion, grain boundary diffusion and lattice diffusion mechanisms were incorporated in the constitutive model, as well. The power-law creep model in conjunction with various diffusion models was applied to the HIP process of 316L stainless steel powder compacts under 50 and 100 MPa at 1125 $!`\acute{\dot{E}}$. The results of the calculations were verified using literature data It could be found that the contribution of the diffusional mechanisms is not significant under the current process conditions.
