  • Flexoelectric effect has a major role on mechanical responses of piezoelectric materials when their dimensions become submicron. Applying differential quadrature (DQ) method, the present article studies dynamic characteristics of a small scale beam made of piezoelectric material considering flexoelectric effect. In order to capture scale-dependency of such piezoelectric beams, nonlocal elasticity theory is utilized and also surface effects are included for better structural modeling. Governing equations have been derived by utilizing Hamilton's rule with the assumption that the scale-dependent beam is subjected to thermal environment leading to uniform temperature variation across the thickness. Obtained results based on DQ method are in good agreement with previous data on pizo-flexoelectric beams. Finally, it would be indicated that dynamic response characteristics and vibration frequencies of the nano-size beam depends on the existence of flexoelectric influence and the magnitude of scale factors.

  • In this study, nonlinear dynamic response of a concrete plate retrofit with Aluminium oxide ($Al_2O_3$) under seismic load and magnetic field is investigated. The plate is a composite reinforced by Aluminium oxide with characteristics of the equivalent composite being determined using Mori-Tanka model considering agglomeration effect. The plate is simulated with higher order shear deformation plate model. Employing nonlinear strains-displacements, stress-strain, the energy equations of column was obtained and using Hamilton's principal, the governing equations were derived. Differential quadrature method (DQM) in conjunction with Newark method is applied for obtaining the dynamic response of structure. The influences of magnetic field, volume percent of nanoparticles, geometrical parameters of column, agglomeration and boundary conditions on the dynamic response were investigated. Results showed that with increasing volume percent of nanoparticles, the dynamic deflection decreases.

  • In this paper, nonlinear vibration of embedded nanocomposite concrete is investigated based on Timoshenko beam model. The beam is reinforced by with agglomerated silicon dioxide (SiO2) nanoparticles. Mori-Tanaka model is used for considering agglomeration effects and calculating the equivalent characteristics of the structure. The surrounding foundation is simulated with Pasternak medium. Energy method and Hamilton's principal are used for deriving the motion equations. Differential quadrature method (DQM) is applied in order to obtain the frequency of structure. The effects of different parameters such as volume percent of SiO2 nanoparticles, nanoparticles agglomeration, elastic medium, boundary conditions and geometrical parameters of beam are shown on the frequency of system. Numerical results indicate that with increasing the SiO2 nanoparticles, the frequency of structure increases. In addition, considering agglomeration effects leads to decrease in frequency of system.

  • Nonlinear vibration and instability of cylindrical shell conveying fluid-nanoparticles mixture flow are studied in this article. The surrounding elastic medium is modeled by Pasternak foundation. Mixture rule is used for obtaining the effective viscosity and density of the fluid-nanoparticles mixture flow. The material properties of the elastic medium and cylindrical shell are assumed temperature-dependent. Employing first order shear deformation theory (FSDT), the motion equations are derived using energy method and Hamilton's principal. Differential quadrature method (DQM) is used for obtaining the frequency and critical fluid velocity. The effects of different parameters such as volume percent of nanoparticles, boundary conditions, geometrical parameters of cylindrical shell, temperature change, elastic foundation and fluid velocity are shown on the frequency and critical fluid velocity of the structure. Results show that with increasing volume percent of nanoparticles in the fluid, the frequency and critical fluid velocity will be increases.

  • The use of nanotechnology materials and applications in the construction industry should be considered for enhancing material properties. However, the nonlinear buckling of an embedded straight concrete columns reinforced with silicon dioxide ($SiO_2$) nanoparticles is investigated in the present study. The column is simulated mathematically with Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam models. Agglomeration effects and the characteristics of the equivalent composite are determined using Mori-Tanaka approach. The foundation around the column is simulated with spring and shear layer. The governing equations are derived using energy method and Hamilton's principal. Differential quadrature method (DQM) is used in order to obtain the buckling load of structure. The influences of volume percent of $SiO_2$ nanoparticles, geometrical parameters and agglomeration on the buckling of column are investigated. Numerical results indicate that considering agglomeration effects leads to decrease in buckling load of structure.

  • In this paper, critical fluid velocity and frequency of laminated pipe conveying fluid are presented. Each layer of the pipe is reinforced by functionally graded carbon nanotubes (FG-CNTs). The internal fluid is assumed turbulent and the induced forces are calculated by momentum equations. The pipe is resting on viscoelastic foundation with spring, shear and damping constants. The motion equations are derived based on classical shell theory and energy method. Differential quadrature method (DQM) is used for solution and obtaining the critical fluid velocity. The effects of volume percent and distribution of CNT, boundary condition, lamina layer number, length to radius ration of pipe, viscoelastic medium and fluid velocity are shown on the critical fluid velocity. Results show that with increasing the lamina layer number, the critical fluid velocity increases.

  • In the present research, differential quadrature (DQ) method has been utilized for investigating free vibrations of porous functionally graded (FG) micro/nano beams in thermal environments. The exact location of neutral axis in FG material has been assumed where the material properties are described via porosity-dependent power-law functions. A scale factor related to couple stresses has been employed for describing size effect. The formulation of scale-dependent beam has been presented based upon a refined beam theory needless of shear correction factors. The governing equations and the associated boundary conditions have been established via Hamilton's rule and then they are solved implementing DQ method. Several graphs are provided which emphasis on the role of porosity dispersion type, porosity volume, temperature variation, scale factor and FG material index on free vibrational behavior of small scale beams.
