Cystoisospora is responsible for morbidity in immunocompromised patients. PCR is sensitive for diagnosing Cystoisospora; however, it needs reevaluation for differential molecular diagnosis of cystoisosporiasis. We aimed at evaluating melting curve analysis (MCA) after real-time PCR (qPCR) in diagnosis and genotyping of Cystoisospora as an alternative to conventional PCR. We included 293 diarrheic stool samples of patients attending the Department of Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine of Cairo University Hospitals, Egypt. Samples were subjected to microscopy, nested PCR (nPCR), and qPCR targeting the internal transcribed spacer 2 region (ITS2) of the ribosomal RNA (r RNA) gene followed by melting temperatures ($T_ms$) analysis and comparing the results to PCR-RFLP banding patterns. Using microscopy and ITS2-nPCR, 3.1% and 5.8% of cases were Cystoisospora positive, respectively, while 10.9% were positive using qPCR. Genotyping of Cystoisospora by qPCR-MCA revealed 2 genotypes. These genotypes matched with 2 distinct melting peaks with specified $T_ms$ at $85.8^{\circ}C$ and $88.6^{\circ}C$, which indicated genetic variation among Cystoisospora isolates in Egypt. Genotype II proved to be more prevalent (65.6%). HIV-related Kaposi sarcoma and leukemic patients harbored both genotypes with a tendency to genotype II. Genotype I was more prevalent in lymphomas and mammary gland tumors while colorectal and hepatocellular tumors harbored genotype II suggesting that this genotype might be responsible for the development of cystoisosporiasis in immunocompromised patients. Direct reliable identification and differentiation of Cystoisospora species could be established using $qPCR-T_ms$ analysis which is useful for rapid detection and screening of Cystoisospora genotypes principally in high risk groups.

Since substations are structurally complex due to the concentration of protection coordination facilities with substation facilities for long distance power transmission, it is difficult to design a protection coordination system to minimize the spreading effect of the fault when a fault occurs on transmission line or distribution line. Therefore, in this paper, the bus configuration and the basic logic of protection coordination that have a major influence on the reliability of substation power supply were analyzed, and the substation protection coordination logic to detect internal and external faults was developed based on EMTP-RV. As the basic logic of substation protection coordination, the percent differential protection relay logic for substation internal fault detection and the overload protection relay logic for inference of external failure were modeled. Finally, the 154kV substation including the protection coordination logic was modeled using EMTP-RV, and the effectiveness of the protection coordination design methodology was confirmed through the several fault simulation cases based on EMTP-RV.
This method using the synthesis substrate of $5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-{\alpha}-galactoside\;(X-{\alpha}-Gal)$ was examined for the differential enumeration of Bifidobacteria and lactic acid-producing bacteria. Bifidobacteria possess a high level of ${\alpha}-galactosidase$ activity. Bifidobacterium longum KCTC 3215 exhibited the highest ${\alpha}-galactosidase$ specific activity (8.57 units/mg protein). Determination of ${\alpha}-galactosidase$ activity using the PNPG procedure showed that Lactobacillus, Streptococcus, Pediococcus, and Leuconostoc strain had lower ${\alpha}-galactosidase$ activity as compared to Bifidobacteria. The $X-{\alpha}-Gal$ based medium is useful to identify Bifidobacteria among lactic acid-producing bacteria since the enzyme action of ${\alpha}-galactosidase$ spills $X-{\alpha}-Gal$ substrate and releases indol which impacts a blue color to Bifidobacterial colonies on agar plates. All strains of Bifidobacteria appeared as blue colonies on MRS agar medium supplemented with $100\;{\mu}M\;X-{\alpha}-Gal$ while colonies of other lactic acid-producing bacteria appeared white or light blue.

Senescent effects are the gradual deterioration of function caused by biological aging. Senescent effects on color vision are not clearly understood even after considerable researches. Part of the reason is that the color vision is a complex phenomenon resulting from various factors such as organic systems, and the physical (neuro-optical) and the psychological (experiential) processes of color perception. We performed a field experiment on color perceptional differences due to aging vision. Our experiment was applied to two different groups in South Korea: an experimental group (46 subjects of over the age of 61 years) and a control group (49 subjects in their twenties). The experimental tools are comprised of (1) six gradual yellowing detector board (40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%); (2) pairs of vivid-strong, vivid-deep, grayish-deep, deep-dull, and bright-light tones of Blue (B) and Purple (P) colors; (3) Red (R), Yellow (Y), Green (G), Blue (B), and Purple (P) colors of dull-tones and pale-tones; and (4) a questionnaire on the semantic differential scales of the color images and color differences. A diagnosis system of gradual yellow vision, developed by the authors for this study, was adapted to generate the color detecting boards. The results are as follows. (1) There are significant differences between the two groups in detecting colors that simulate 40% and 50% of yellow vision. (2) As to the color difference detecting ability between similar tones, the experimental group shows difficulties in pairs of vivid-strong tones and deep-dull tones of the B color. And (3), the emotional responses to the dull tone and the pale tone are not stable in the red, the yellow, blue, and purple. Thus, we empirically demonstrate the specific differences in color perception between the old and young groups.

There were many studies on the development of radiation measuring instruments to detect the presence of radiation. In particular, the signal processing method and treatment without loss of the detection signal are very important. The common feature for these studies is the peak-hold method that keeps the peak value of input signal uniform for a short time, readouts its value, discharges electrical value, and then waits for next signal. We propose the new methodology to capture the pulse peak value from the radiation detector and read the value directly other than peak-hold method. This method has merit of accurate reading the input signal pulse peak value without complicate process of holding for a period or initializing of input signal, and then be verified to be adequate through simulation of actual example.
A simple procedure, readily available at low cost with a sensitivity sufficient to determine trace levels of iron in seawater is proposed, which utilizes adsorptive accumulation of the iron/catechol complex on the mercury drop electrode in a borate medium of pH 8.0. Optimal conditions include a solution concentration of 2 mM catechol, 2.5 mM borate and a pH of 8.0, an accumulation potential of - 0.25 V is applied for 1∼3 min, and the potential scan is in the differential pulse mode. The limit of detection is 1.5 nM Fe using a preconcentration time of 3 min. The interference from copper can be eliminated and baseline slope is greatly improved, because its peak is well separated from that of iron in the proposed medium.
Poly-ethylenedioxypyrrole (PEDOP) coated thiolated multiwall carbon nanotubes palladium nanoparticles (MWCNTs-Pd) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) [PEDOP/MWCNTs-Pd/GCE] for the determination of hydroquinone (HQ) and it’s isomer catechol (CA) were synthesized and compared with bare GCE and thiolated multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-SH/GCE). The modification could be made by simple processes on a GCE with MWCNTs-Pd covered by PEDOP in a 0.05 M tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP)/MeCN solution system. A well-defined peak potential evaluation of the oxidation of hydroquinone to quinone at 0.05 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), and electrochemical reduction back to hydroquinone were found by cyclic voltammetry (CV) in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) at pH 7.4. Peak current values increased linearly with increasing hydroquinone contents. The peak separation between the anodic and cathodic peaks at the PEDOP/MWCNTs-Pd/GCE was ${\Delta}Ep$ = 40 mV for HQ and ${\Delta}Ep$ = 70 mV for CA, resulting in a higher electron transfer rate. Moreover, good reproducibility, excellent storage stability, a wide linear range (0.1 ${\mu}M$ - 5 mM for HQ and 0.01 ${\mu}M$ - 6 mM for CA), and low detection limits ($2.9{\times}10^{-8}$ M for HQ and $2.6{\times}10^{-8}$ M for CA; S/N = 3) were determined using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and amperometric responses; this makes it a promising candidate as a sensor for determination of HQ and CA.

A glassy carbon electrode(GCE) modified with nafion-DTPA-glycerol was used for the highly selective and sensitive determination of a trace amount of Cu$\^$2+/. Various experimental parameters, which influenced the response of nafion-DTPA-glycerol modified electrode to Cu$\^$2+/, were optimized. The copper(II) was accumulated on the electrode surface by the formation of the complex in an open circuit, and the resulting surface was characterized by medium exchange, electrochemical reduction, and differential pulse voltammetry, A linear range was obtained in the concentration range 1.0${\times}$10$\^$-8/M∼1.0${\times}$10$\^$-6/M Cu(II) with 7 min preconcentration. Further, when an approximate amount of lead(II) is added to the test solution, nafion-DTPA-glycerol modified glassy carbon electrode has a dynamic range of 2 orders magnitude(1.0${\times}$10$\^$-9/M∼1.0${\times}$10$\^$-7/M). The detection limit(3 $\sigma$) was as low as 5.0${\times}$10$\^$-6/M(0.032ppb). The interferences from other metal ions could be reduced by adding KCN into the sample solutions. This method was applied to the determination of coppe,(II) in certified reference material(3.23${\times}$10$\^$-7/M, 21ppb), sea water(9.50${\times}$10/sup-7/M, 60ppb). The result agrees satisfactorily with the value measured by Korea Research Institute of Standard and Science.
Epithelial ovarian cancer represents the most lethal gynecological cancer, and the high mortality rate makes this malignancy a major health concern. Poor prognosis results from an inability to detect ovarian cancers at an early, curable stage, as well as from the lack of an effective therapy. Thus, effective and novel strategies for prevention and treatment with non-toxic agents merit serious consideration. Resveratrol, obtained from grapes, berries, peanuts and red wine, has been shown to have a potent growth-inhibitory effect against various human cancer cells as well as in in vivo preclinical cancer models. The objective here was to evaluate potential antitumor effects of resveratrol in both in vitro and in vivo NuTu-19 ovarian cancer models. In vitro an invasion assay was performed. After 48 h, the numbers of viable cells that invaded the extracellular matrix layer were reduced by 94% with resveratrol in comparison to control. For the in vivo anti-tumor assessment, 10 rats were injected with NuTu-19 cells into the ovarian bursa. Thereafter, half were provided with a diet mixed with a dose of 100 mg resveratrol/kg body weight/day for 28 days. Following sacrifice, anticancer effects were assessed by histological evaluation of ovarian as well as surrounding tissues, and immunohistochemical detection of cell proliferation and apoptosis, but there were no observable differences between the control and resveratrol-treated groups for any of the biological endpoints. While resveratrol is effective in suppressing the in vitro cellular invasion of NuTu-19 ovarian cancer cells, these effects do not appear to impact on in vivo NuTu-19 ovarian cancers in rats.

A TC-16ADPSK scheme for transmitting different kinds of information simultaneously is proposed in this paper. The scheme is designed for simultaneously transmitting two kinds of Information on one channel. In signal mapping, a data of two kinds of information is used to phase modulation on Star-16APSK constellation and the other to amplitude modulation. In detection, each data independently recovers from mixing signal on each detector Therefore, we can transmit two kinds of Information on one channel can be transmitted efficiently. BER performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed on AWGN channel and Rayleigh fading channels on a computer with Matlab communication toolbox. On same SNR, the Gray code mapping has more 0.5-1.5dB coding gains than Ungerboeck's code mapping gains.
