Differential Diagnosis of Malignant Biliary Tract Cancer from Benign Tissues using Apparent Diffusion Coefficient Measurements with Diffusion Weighted Imaging in Asians

  • Background: The aim of this meta-analysis was to assess the efficacy of the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value of diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI) for differentiating biliary tract cancer (BTC) from benign biliary tract diseases in Asians. Materials and Methods: We systematically searched Embase and PubMed prior to December 2014. Eight studies conducted in Asians met our predetermined inclusion criteria. Results: Our meta-analysis results showed that ADC values in BTC tissues were significantly lower than in benign biliary tract tissues (SMD = -1.54, 95%CI: -1.75~-1.33, P<0.001). Subgroup analysis based on the MRI machine type showed that the ADC values were consistent, accurate and reliable in the diagnosis of BTC when comparing cancer tissue vs. benign tissue under the Siemens 1.5 T/3.0 T, Philips 1.5 T/3.0 T, GE 1.5 T, and Toshiba 1.5 T types, respectively (all P<0.05). Further, ADC values were still consistent and accurate in the differential diagnosis of BTC under the b value of 800 and $1000s/mm^2$ (all P<0.05). Conclusions: Our findings supported potential clinical applications of DWI ADC values in differentiating BTC from benign biliary tract diseases in Asians.

Design of Face Recognition algorithm Using PCA&LDA combined for Data Pre-Processing and Polynomial-based RBF Neural Networks (PCA와 LDA를 결합한 데이터 전 처리와 다항식 기반 RBFNNs을 이용한 얼굴 인식 알고리즘 설계)

  • In this study, the Polynomial-based Radial Basis Function Neural Networks is proposed as an one of the recognition part of overall face recognition system that consists of two parts such as the preprocessing part and recognition part. The design methodology and procedure of the proposed pRBFNNs are presented to obtain the solution to high-dimensional pattern recognition problems. In data preprocessing part, Principal Component Analysis(PCA) which is generally used in face recognition, which is useful to express some classes using reduction, since it is effective to maintain the rate of recognition and to reduce the amount of data at the same time. However, because of there of the whole face image, it can not guarantee the detection rate about the change of viewpoint and whole image. Thus, to compensate for the defects, Linear Discriminant Analysis(LDA) is used to enhance the separation of different classes. In this paper, we combine the PCA&LDA algorithm and design the optimized pRBFNNs for recognition module. The proposed pRBFNNs architecture consists of three functional modules such as the condition part, the conclusion part, and the inference part as fuzzy rules formed in 'If-then' format. In the condition part of fuzzy rules, input space is partitioned with Fuzzy C-Means clustering. In the conclusion part of rules, the connection weight of pRBFNNs is represented as two kinds of polynomials such as constant, and linear. The coefficients of connection weight identified with back-propagation using gradient descent method. The output of the pRBFNNs model is obtained by fuzzy inference method in the inference part of fuzzy rules. The essential design parameters (including learning rate, momentum coefficient and fuzzification coefficient) of the networks are optimized by means of Differential Evolution. The proposed pRBFNNs are applied to face image(ex Yale, AT&T) datasets and then demonstrated from the viewpoint of the output performance and recognition rate.

Synthesis and Characterization of Wholly Aromatic Polyester Liquid Crystalline Thermosets (전방향족 폴리에스터 열경화성 액정의 합성과 특성)

  • We prepared a series of aromatic liquid crystals (LCs) based on wholly aromatic ester units with the reactive end group methyl maleimide by means of melt condensation method, and the resulting LCs were thermally crosslinked to produce liquid crystalline thermoset (LCT) films. The synthesized LCs and LCTs were characterized with Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), thermomechanical analysis (TMA), and polarizing optical microscopy (POM) with a hot stage. The glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and coefficient of thermal expansion are strongly affected by the mesogen units in their main chain structures. The $p$-substituted biphenyl LC was found to have the highest thermal property value.

Non-Profiling Analysis Attacks on PQC Standardization Algorithm CRYSTALS-KYBER and Countermeasures (PQC 표준화 알고리즘 CRYSTALS-KYBER에 대한 비프로파일링 분석 공격 및 대응 방안)

  • Recently, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced four cryptographic algorithms as a standard candidates of Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC). In this paper, we show that private key can be exposed by a non-profiling-based power analysis attack such as Correlation Power Analysis (CPA) and Differential Deep Learning Analysis (DDLA) on CRYSTALS-KYBER algorithm, which is decided as a standard in the PKE/KEM field. As a result of experiments, it was successful in recovering the linear polynomial coefficient of the private key. Furthermore, the private key can be sufficiently recovered with a 13.0 Normalized Maximum Margin (NMM) value when Hamming Weight of intermediate values is used as a label in DDLA. In addition, these non-profiling attacks can be prevented by applying countermeasures that randomly divides the ciphertext during the decryption process and randomizes the starting point of the coefficient-wise multiplication operation.

A Study on Performance Improvement of Non-Profiling Based Power Analysis Attack against CRYSTALS-Dilithium (CRYSTALS-Dilithium 대상 비프로파일링 기반 전력 분석 공격 성능 개선 연구)

  • The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which is working on the Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) standardization project, announced four algorithms that have been finalized for standardization. In this paper, we demonstrate through experiments that private keys can be exposed by Correlation Power Analysis (CPA) and Differential Deep Learning Analysis (DDLA) attacks on polynomial coefficient-wise multiplication algorithms that operate in the process of generating signatures using CRYSTALS-Dilithium algorithm. As a result of the experiment on ARM-Cortex-M4, we succeeded in recovering the private key coefficient using CPA or DDLA attacks. In particular, when StandardScaler preprocessing and continuous wavelet transform applied power traces were used in the DDLA attack, the minimum number of power traces required for attacks is reduced and the Normalized Maximum Margines (NMM) value increased by about 3 times. Conseqently, the proposed methods significantly improves the attack performance.

A Study on the Supportive Stiffness in Transitional Zones through Moving Load-Based Three-Dimensional Modeling (이동하중과 3차원 모델링을 통한 접속부 지지강성연구)

  • The Transitional zone between bridge abutment and earthwork is one of the representative vulnerable zones in railway where differential settlements may take place due to the different supportive stiffness. Although transitional zones are managed with stricter standards than those of the other earthwork zones either in the design and construction stages, it is very difficult to prevent differential settlement perfectly. A three-dimensional numerical analyses were performed by applying train moving load in this study. The analytical model including abutments and earthwork zones was constituted with rail, sleepers, track concrete layer (TCL), hydraulic stabilized base (HSB), reinforced road bed, and road bed using railway and road base structure. The clamp connecting the rail and sleeper were also modeled as the element with spring coefficient. The train wheel is modeled in the actual size and moved on the rail with 300 km/hr speed. The deformation characteristics at each point of the rail and the ground were considered in detail when moving the train wheel. The analysis results were compared with those from the two-dimensional analysis without considering moving load. The research results show that displacement and stress were greater in the three-dimensional analysis than in other analyses, and the three-dimensional analysis with moving load should be performed to evaluate railway performance.

Synthesis and Nonlinear Optical Properties of Novel T-type Polyester Containing Thiophene with Enhanced Thermal Stability

  • A novel T-type polyester 7 containing 1-(2,5-dioxyphenyl)-2-{5-(1,2,2-tricyanovinyl)-2-thienyl}ethenes as nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores, which are part of the polymer backbone, was prepared and characterized. Polyester 7 is soluble in common organic solvents such as dimethylsulfoxide and N,N-dimethylformamide. It showed a thermal stability up to $300^{\circ}C$ in thermogravimetric analysis thermogram and the glass-transition temperature ($T_g$) obtained from differential scanning calorimetry thermogram was around $113^{\circ}C$. The second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficient ($d_{33}$) of poled polymer films at 1,560 nm fundamental wavelength was around 1.85 pm/V. The dipole alignment exhibits a greater thermal stability even at $10^{\circ}C$ higher than $T_g$, and there is no SHG decay below $125^{\circ}C$ due to the partial mainchain character of the polymer structure, which is acceptable for nonlinear optical device applications.

  • In this paper, optical noise effect is reduced by using the loss characteristics of plastic fibers in an optical wireless system. The attenuation coefficient of a plastic fiber for the signal is different from that f3r the noise light, and the length difference between two fibers to the 2PD's behaves like a discriminative element. It is possible to eliminate the optical noise effect and detect only the signal without optical filters. The signal to noise ratio in a differential detector using fibers was 9.7 dB higher than in a single photodiode without optical fiber.

Effect of $TiO_2$ in the Lead-Zinc-Borosilicate Solder Glass ($TiO_2$ 의 첨가가 Lead-Zinc-Borosilicate 봉착 유리에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of present study is to find the structure crystallization mechanism and physical properties in $TiO_2$ containing lead zinc borosilicate glass system. The experiments such as differential thermal analysis infrared spectral analysis. X-ray diffraction analysis and thermal expansion measurements have been done. Differential thermal analysis of coarse and fine glass powder showed bulk nucleating mechanism for high $TiO_2$ containing glasses and surface nucleation mechanism for low $TiO_2$ containing glasses. The prepared glasses crystallized to crystalline mixture of PbO.2ZnO. $B_2O_3$ .4PbO.2ZnO.$5B_2O_3$and 2PbO.ZnO.$B_2O_3$ when heat-treated in the range of 480 and 51$0^{\circ}C$ and crystallized to PbTiO3 when heat-treated at $600^{\circ}C$. Obtained crystalline phase of $PbTiO_3$ in glass matrix strongly affects to thermal expansion coefficient and the value of crystallized glass varied 68.0 to $107.1{\times}10-7$/$^{\circ}C$ depending on the amount of $TiO_2$added. Infrared spectral analysis showed that [$BO_3$] triangle and [$BO_3$] tetrahedral units were coexisted in the glass with high content of PbO.

Subsidence Measurements of Reclaimed Coastal Land using Satellite Radar Interferometry (위성 레이더 인터훼로메트리를 이용한 연안 매립지의 지반침하량 측정)

  • We measure subsidences occurred in a reclaimed coastal land, Noksan industrial complex, by using JERS-1 SAR (1996-1998) and RADARSAT-1 SAR (2002-2003) dataset. SAR with a high spatial resolution (about several or several tens meter) can reveal the two-dimensional distribution of settlement that would be bardly estimated from in situ measurements. The DInSAR results show significant deformation signal associated with soil consolidation. Accuracy of the settlements estimated by 2-pass differential interferometry (DInSAR) is evaluated using the measurements of settlement gauge. A two-dimensional subsidence map is constructed from 7 qualified pairs. Comparing the JERS-1 radar measurements with the ground truth data yields the correlation coefficient of 0.87 (RMSE of 1.44 cm). The regression line shows the gradient of 1.04 and intercepts close to the origin, which implies that the unbiased settlement can be measured by DInSAR technique. The residual settlements are also detected from RADARSAT-1 pairs. The extent and amount of the settlements are matched well with ground truth data.
