The number of subjects was total 508 with 396 men and 112 women. They were subgrouped into surgical part, medical part and service and basic part by speciality. And also subgrouped into intern and resident, pay doctor, and practitioner by working type. The results were as follows. 1) Obesity indices: BMI of total doctor was $23.1{\pm}2.8$, and WHR was $0.87{\pm}0.08$ and overweight prevalence(BMI>25.0) was 23.6%. It was within normal limit but slightly over the Korean standard. The degree of obesity indices of subgroups by speciality was 'surgical part > medical part > service and basic part', and by working type was 'practitioner > pay doctor > intern and resident'. 2) Dietary intake and Physical activity: Average dietary intake was $2148{\pm}451kcal/day$. The degree of dietary intake by speciality was 'surgical part > medical part > service and basic part'. By working type it was 'practitioner > pay doctor > intern and resident'. Average physical activity was $29{\pm}5$ METs/day. The degree of physical activity also showed similiar pattern. But there was no significant difference among each groups. 3) Comparision between over-weight and non-over-weight group: The items that showed significant difference between two groups were dietary intake, skip breakfast, regular exercise, smoking, heavy drinking, chronic disease etc.
The aim of this study was to analyse effects that the degree of depression have on the life style variables, nutrient intake, iron indices and pregnancy outcome. Subjects were 114 pregnant women who were receiving prenatal care at a hospital in Seoul. We collected data for general characteristics and lifestyle variables from general survey instrument and for depression score from the questionnaire on depression. Dietary intakes of subjects were estimated by 24 hour dietary recall method. Also we analysed iron indices and pregnancy outcomes. We classified subjects by 10 point, which was the average depression score, into two groups [Low depression score group (LS) : High depression score group (HS)]. As to the intakes of total calcium, plant-calcium, plant-iron, potassium, total folate and dietary folate, LS group was far higher than HS group (P < 0.05, P < 0.05, P < 0.01, P < 0.001, P < 0.05, and P < 0.01, respectively). As to pre-pregnancy alcohol drinking, LS group had 41.9% in non-drinker, which was far higher than 28% in HS group in non-drinker (P < 0.05). As for drinking coffee during pre-pregnancy, pregnant women who don’ drink coffee in LS group took 43.6%, which was higher than 38% in HS group (P < 0.01). Regarding delivery type, the cesarean section in LS group (18%) was significantly lower than that in HS group (45%) (P < 0.01). Bivariate analysis showed that birth weight was significantly associated with the gestational age (P < 0.01). The pregnant women with higher depression score tended to have undesirable life habit, which might affect negative pregnancy outcomes. A better understanding of how depression and intake of nutrients work together to modulate behavior will be benefit nutritional research.
Korean food is being recognized for its excellence. This paper attempts to provide material for the popularization of Korean cuisine with respect to foreign nationals living in Korea who are vegetarian by studying their Korean cuisine knowledge and preferences. The results of an Importance-Performance Analysis showed that though the importance values of traditional spice use such as garlic and the consideration of ingredient price were high, their performance values were low. Thus, these were areas identified as needing major improvement. Repeated measured data analysis was performed to determine variations in the perception of major factors for the development of Korean cuisine. The results indicated that simplification of seasoning was the most important factor followed by diversification of food ingredients, resale of vegetables in small quantities, ease of obtaining Korean cuisine recipes, and popularization of herbal and temple food, in that order. The least important factor in developing Korean cuisine was determined to be the reduction in levels of salt. Conjoint analysis was performed on the choices affection the selection of Korean cuisine, and price was found to be the most important factor. It was also determined that the effectiveness in the combination of fusion style, health oriented, concurrently served, medium to low price Korean cuisine was highest in preference. The next highest preferred combination was traditional style, health oriented, concurrently served, medium to low price Korean cuisine. The most significant factor to keep in mind in developing Korean dishes for foreign vegetarians was determined to be price. Furthermore, it was important to not simply reduce caloric intake but to use healthy ingredients and cooking methods.

Controlling dietary behaviors and health-related lifestyle habits is important to manage non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). If NIDDM is not treated properly, the prevalence of macro-vascular complications (MC) may increase. The goal of NIDDM therapy is to maintain normal concentrations of blood glucose and lipid profiles by having regular meals, controlling alcohol drinking, quitting smoking, and performing physical exercise regularly. This study was performed to investigate the dietary and health-related lifestyle habits and blood parameters of NIDDM patients of both genders and compared these characteristics between the patients with and without MC. Our results show that the subjects with MC compared to without MC and the female patients than the males controlled their diets more regularly, tended to regulate the number of meals better, and smoke less than those without MC. Although plasma lipid profiles were not significantly different between the genders and between the subjects with and without MC, the men had higher blood glucose and plasma tHcy concentrations than the women and plasma tHcy concentration was higher in the female subjects without MC. These results imply that the male patients of NIDDM without MC might have more problems in maintaining their blood glucose. In addition, smoking may be the most important life-style factor influencing some blood parameters like blood glucose, HbAlc, and total cholesterol in the NIDDM patients.
The purpose of this study was to obtain the basic information needed for an effective program of nutrition education and the establishment of desirable dietary attitudes in elementary school children. The study was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire, and the participants were 281 elementary school children. The data were analyzed in terms of the participants' gender and level of nutritional knowledge, and group differences were assessed using chi-square and Duncan's multiple range tests. The results were as following: Male and female students did not differ in nutritional knowledge. In terms of health-related life style, there were significant differences according to gender and nutrition knowledge. This study was performed in order to investigate the difference of general environment, life style, dietary behavior and food habit between the obese children and normal children. The number of subject was 98 obese children, 347 normal children. General characteristic was not significantly different, however father's BMI of obese children was significantly (p<0.05) higher than that of normal children. There was significant difference between obese children and normal children in mother's office-closing hour (p<0.05). Normal children spent more time to play outdoor than obese children in their free time. Normal children slept over 8 hours, but obese children slept below 8 hours. Most of obese children (70.4%) ate too many times and most of obese children (72.4%) recognized their overweight. Parents of obese children considered that their children need to control their weight and correct their eating habits such as overeating. Obese children could not bear hunger and kept eating a meal until they feel full. Obese children preferred fried or broiled food. Therefore nutritional education is necessary to improve the food habits of obese children and to reduce the obesity rate of children.
Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze the change in the obesity index in girls receiving a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa), based on treatment duration, and to aid in nutritional counseling by investigating dietary habits and lifestyle. Methods: Anthropometric examinations were conducted on 62 girls treated with GnRHa from January 2010 through July 2014. Parents were asked to fill out questionnaires on patient dietary habits and lifestyle. Results: The group taking GnRHa for over 1 year had a higher rate of obesity increase than the group taking GnRHa for less than 1 year, but they had common habits related to obesity, which should be corrected. In addition, 69.2% of the normal weight group taking GnRHa for over 1 year gained weight, and needed more intensive programs, which include physical exercise and nutritional education. Although girls with precocious puberty showed a decrease in the intake of high-calorie foods with nutritional intervention regardless of treatment duration, they still had problems that needed improvement, such as shorter meals and lack of exercise. Conclusion: Girls with precocious puberty and their parents should emphasize maintenance of proper body weight, especially when treatment for over 1 year is anticipated. Consistent education in nutrition, ways to increase intensity and duration of physical activity, and the need to slow down mealtimes are important in managing obesity; doctors need to perform regular checkups and provide nutritional counseling.
148 male and 153 female college students attitude toward weight control, diet behaviors and food habits were investigated by self questionnaire. Among the students, underweight students were 11.0$\%$, normal weight students were 63.5$\%$ and obese students were 25.6$\%$ by RBW standard, and underweight students were 16.0$\%$, nromal weight students were 70.4$\%$ and obese students were 13.6% by BMI standard. However, more than 10% of male and 38$\%$ of female students thought they were obese even thought their body weight were normal. Female students tended to overeat when they were stressed or in a bad mood and generally all participants had poor scores on the dietary attitudes test, however, male students had significantly higher scores than female students. Female students tended to choose food more for its taste. Collegestudents are in early stage of adult life and their dietary attitudes, food behaviors and life style will continue to their later life. Therefore college students need more good nutrition knowledge, positive dietary attitudes, modified life styles to prevent and treat collegestudents obesity.
