″한국인을 위한 식생활 지침″에 대한 인지도 조사 (A Survey on Awareness about Dietary Guideline for Korean)

  • 바람직한 식생활은 질병을 예방하고 건강을 증진시킨다. 이에 식생활의 중요성이 강조되면서 국민 누구나 쉽게 이해하고 실행할 수 있는 식생활 지침이 각 기관에서 발표되었다. 그러나 그 활용도에 대한 분석결과가 없고 식생활 지침의 홍보도 현실적으로는 매우 미약한 수준이라 식생활 지침의 국민 건강증진에 대한 효과성 파악이 어려운 실정이다. 그러므로 본 연구는 식생활 지침의 활용도를 높이기 위한 전략사업의 기초로 일반인을 대상으로 식생활지침에 대한 인지정도를 조사하였기에 보고하는 바이다. (중략)

노인의 건강기능식품 섭취 실태와 영양지수를 이용한 식사의 질 및 영양 평가 (Evaluation of Dietary Quality and Nutritional Status based on Nutrition Quotient and Health Functional Food Intake in the Korea Elderly)

  • This study aim to evaluate dietary quality and nutritional status according to the consumption of health functional food using Nutrition Quotient for Korean elderly (NQ-E) for 288 elderly people attending senior welfare centers in Gyeonggi-do. The questionnaire consisted of items about general information, health functional food, and Nutrition Quotient for Korean elderly (NQ-E). Chi-squared test, Fisher's exact tests, and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) were performed using the SAS program ver. 9.4. Among the male and female subjects, the female subjects consumed more health functional food. The results of the dietary quality and nutritional status difference according to the intake of health functional food showed significant differences only in the areas of variety and abstinence among nutrition quotient factors for men, while no significant differences were observed in any of the nutrition quotient factors for women. In conclusion, focused-nutrition education program and useful guideline is needed for promoting adequate consumption of health functional foods in elderly.

게임특성화 고등학교 학생의 비만도에 따른 영양상태, 생활습관 및 골밀도 비교 연구 (Comparative Study on Nutrients Intake, Physical Activities and Bone Mineral Density of Specialized Game High School dentsaccording to Obesity Level)

  • The purpose of this study was performed to evaluate the prevalence of overweight and to compare the dietary behaviors, nutrient intake and physical activities of specialized game high school students. Total of 163 subjects participated and their weight, height, waist circumference, hip circumference and bone status by a quantitative ultrasound method were measured. The subjects were surveyed by a self-administered questionnaire about general characteristics, dietary behaviors and physical activities. Nutrient intakes of the subjects were assessed by semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire. The subjects were divided into four groups on their obesity level by BMI. The prevalence of underweight, normal, overweight and obese group was 6%, 58%, 16%, and 20% respectively. BMI was negatively correlated with bone mineral density (p < 0.01) and positively correlated with WHR (p < 0.01). The dietary guideline compliance score for "Enjoy Korean rice food style" was 2.63, followed by "Prepare food sanitarily"2.48, "Do not skip breakfast"2.29, "Eat a variety of vegetables, fruits, dairy products daily"2.25, "Drink water instead of beverage"2.10, "Choose less fried foods"2.09 and "Maintain healthy weight"1.91. The exercise frequency of walking was not significantly different between groups; however, heavy exercise frequency was significantly lower in underweight group than the other groups (p < 0.05). The energy intake was 2153 kcal, which was 81.2% of the Estimate Energy Requirement, and the intake of calcium and vitamin $B_2$ was 66.7% and 77.8% of KDRIs. Particularly, the intake of iron, vitamin A and vitamin C was about 59.4%, 52.2% and 55.4% of KDRIs and INQ was 0.71, 0.63 and 0.65 respectively, and intake of folic acid fell behind 39.1% of KDRIs and INQ was 0.46. Our study suggests that the systematic and continuous nutrition education will have to be provided at schools to improve dietary and health behaviors and prevent chronic metabolic disease for students of specialized game high school.

COVID-19에 의한 한국 청소년의 식생활 행태와 라이프스타일의 변화 (Changes in Dietary Behavior and Lifestyle of Korean Adolescents by COVID-19)

  • The aim of this study analyzed changes in dietary habits and lifestyles before and after COVID-19 targeting adolescents, using the food consumption behavior survey (2019 vs 2021). In the change in health-related factors, height decreased overall, and a significant difference was especially evident in males. Awareness that functional foods and eco-friendly foods contribute to health has increased. Among the results of dietary behavior, the frequency of skipping breakfast showed that the rate of not skipping breakfast and the rate of skipping breakfast more than 5 times increased at the same time(p=0.019). The rate of eating out decreased significantly after COVID-19, and it was analyzed that schools and school cafeteria, as well as Street carts or restaurants and academy, all increased significantly as places where snacks were not consumed. In order to analyze changes in food-related lifestyle, it was grouped into convenience-seeking, quality/safety-seeking, taste-seeking, and health/safety-seeking. 'Small packaged or pre-processed products' decreased. On the other hand, items such as 'Safety rather than price when choosing food' and 'Don't eat food that could go bad' improved. 'Tend to eat regularly' was higher than 2021 compared to 2019. Also 'Tend to purchase HACCP and GAP-certified products' are increased. Because of COVID-19 changes in lifestyle have affected the diet of adolescents. The results of this study suggest that it can be used as a guideline establishment and nutrition counseling material for the formation of correct eating habits for adolescents in the future pandemic era.

한국인 총당류 섭취기준 설정 (Establishment of Total Sugar Reference Value for Koreans)

  • Sugars are a ubiquitous component of our food supply and are consumed as a naturally occurring component of many foods and as additions to foods during processing, preparation, or at the table. Most fruits and dairy products are high in sugars and thus naturally occurring sugars are consumed as part of a healthy diet. Some countries developed recommended daily intake figures(daily values : DVs or guideline daily amounts: GDA) for nutrients, and some countries, but not most have developed DV/GDA for total sugars. Dietary Reference Intakes for Koreans established by the Korean Nutrition Society in 2005, did not include the reference values for total sugar or added sugar. The committee on Dietary Reference Intakes for sugar was constituted in 2006 and discussed whether to special added sugars or total sugar. Although added sugars are not chemically or physiologically different from naturally occurring sugars, many foods and beverages that are major sources of added sugars have lower micronutrient densities compared with foods and beverages that are major sources of naturally occuring sugars. But it was so hard to calculate a dietary intake of added sugar for Korean people, because there was insufficient information about contents of added sugar during processing or preparation of Korean food. Currently Korean or US food labels contain information on total sugars per serving but do not distinguish between sugars naturally present in food and added sugars. Therefore the committee decided to set the reference value for total sugar for Koreans. According to the recommended diet pattern for Koreans suggested by the Korean Nutrition Society, estimated sugar intake from the sugar containing food based on 2,000 kilocalories is 67 g or 13% of total energy. Based on the data available on risk of obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome from the analysis of Korean NHANES, it was insufficient evidence to set a UL for total sugar, but tended to increase serum LDL cholesterol and obesity at over 20-25% of energy from total sugar when consumed with high carbohydrates. Therefore the committee on Dietary Reference Intakes for sugar set the Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range for total sugar as 10-20% of total energy intake.

서울지역 청소년 및 성인의 타우린 섭취량, 혈중 농도 및 소변내 배설량에 관한 연구 (Dietary Intakes, Plasma Levels and Urinary Excretions of Taurine in Adolescents and Adults Residing in Seoul Area)

  • As diverse physiological functions of taurine have been reported, taurine-containing health drinks and products are marketed worldwide for the treatment of various conditions such as improvements of liver, heart and circulatory functions or as an aid to athletic performance. Although animal studies have shown that taurine is fairly safe when supplemented in the diet for an extended period, the effective dose range of taurine for dietary supplements is in controversy. Reports on dietary taurine intakes have been sparse, and would serve as a guideline for determining an appropriate taurine dosage. The present study was aimed to estimate dietary intake level of taurine using the taurine content database of commonly used food stuffs established recently in our laboratory, and also to evaluate plasma concentration and urinary excretion of taurine in adolescents and adults residing in Seoul area. Dietary taurine intakes of the subjects were 219$\pm$16.9mg/day for 16-19 years old(n=123), 177$\pm$18.1mg/day for adults older than 20 years old(n=123). Male subjects(n=115) consumed 216$\pm$21.1mg of taurine/day, while female subjects(n=131) consumed 181$\pm$14.3mg of taurine/day(p<0.05). The level of dietary taurine intake was positively correlated with the levels of dietary intakes of energy, carbohydrate, total lipids, cholesterol, vitamin A, vitamin B$_1$, niacin, vitamin C, calcium, phosphorous, sodium and potassium at p<0.01, and with dietary intakes of iron and animal lipids at p<0.05, respectively. Plasma taurine concentration of subjects were 135$\pm$5.9$\mu$mol/L, which is considered to be within a normal range for healthy subjects. The subjects excreted 1158$\pm$72.7nmol/ of tarine mg creatinine in their urine, which is approximated as 150-170mg of taurine/24hr urine based on the assumption that 18mg creatinine/kg/day is excreted in the urine of healthy adults, and this would be about 80% of the daily taurine intake observed in the same subjects. Dietary taurine intake level was positively correlated with plasma taurine concentration, as well as with urinary taurine excretion corrected by creatinine excretion at p<0.05. The present study was the first report of taurine intake, and plasma concentration and urinary excretion of taurine in a Korean population so far, and these results would serve as an index for the future study evaluating taurine status in a diverse population within and outside Korea. 한국 노인의 식생활 지침 실천도와 알츠하이머형 치매의 관련성 (Association between compliance with dietary guidelines and Alzheimer's disease in Korean elderly)

  • 우리나라의 노인 대상으로 식생활지침 실천도 점수에 따른 치매 유병률의 차이를 분석한 결과, 치매 노인군이 정상노인군에 비해 나이가 유의하게 많았고, 성, 체격, 그리고, 식사속도, 식사를 거르는 횟수, 편식 등 식생활 특성에는 정상 노인군과 유의한 차이가 없었다. 식생활지침 세부 실천지침 중에서 다양한 식품군 섭취, 규칙적이고 안전한 식사, 음주, 가벼운 운동부분에서 치매노인군의 실천도가 정상노인군에 비해 낮았고, 그 외의 문항에서는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 식생활지침 실천도 점수가 높을수록 치매 유병률이 낮은 경향을 보였다. 요약하면 어르신을 위한 식생활지침의 실천도가 높을수록 알츠하이머형 치매의 위험이 감소하므로, "어르신을 위한 식생활지침 (보건복지부, 2011)" 실천도를 높이는 것이 알츠하이머형 치매 예방에 도움이 될 수 있으며, 향후 알츠하이머형 치매 예방을 위한 식생활 지침의 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Effectiveness of worksite-based dietary interventions on employees' obesity: a systematic review and meta-analysis

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to provide scientific evidence on the effectiveness of worksite-based dietary intervention to reduce obesity among overweight/obese employees. MATERIALS/METHODS: Electronic search was performed using Ovid Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, and CINAHL databases. The keywords used were "obesity," "nutrition therapy," and "worksite." The internal validity of the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was assessed using the Cochrane's Risk of Bias. Meta-analysis of selected studies was performed using Review Manager 5.3. RESULTS: A total of seven RCTs with 2,854 participants were identified. The effectiveness of dietary interventions was analyzed in terms of changes in weight, body mass index (BMI), total cholesterol, and blood pressure. The results showed that weight decreased with weighted mean difference (WMD) of -4.37 (95% confidence interval (CI): -6.54 to -2.20), but the effectiveness was statistically significant only in short-term programs < 6 months (P = 0.001). BMI also decreased with WMD of -1.26 (95% CI: -1.98 to -0.55), but the effectiveness was statistically significant only in short-term programs < 6 months (P = 0.001). Total cholesterol decreased with WMD of -5.57 (95% CI: -9.07 to -2.07) mg/dL, demonstrating significant effectiveness (P = 0.002). Both systolic (WMD: -4.90 mmHg) and diastolic (WMD: -2.88 mmHg) blood pressure decreased, demonstrating effectiveness, but with no statistical significance. CONCLUSIONS: The worksite-based dietary interventions for overweight/obese employees showed modest short-term effects. These interventions can be considered successful because weight loss was below approximately 5-10 kg of the initial body weight, which is the threshold for the management of obesity recommended by the Scottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network (SIGN).

Residue Monitoring and Dietary Risk Evaluation of Fungicide Propiconazole in Leafy Vegetables under Greenhouse Conditions

  • Residue monitoring of propiconazole (PCZ) in cabbage, shallot, and spinach was conducted under multi-trial greenhouse conditions. This study aimed to understand the fate of the applied fungicide in these vegetables. Furthermore, the associated health risk of PCZ in leafy vegetables was assessed through dietary risk assessment. Commercially available PCZ (22% suspension concentrate) was administered thrice according to the OECD fungicide application interval guideline. The plant samples were extracted using a slightly modified QuEChERS technique and analyzed using gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The average PCZ recovery was between 84.5% and 117.6%, with a <5% coefficient of variance. The dissipation of PCZ residue in cabbage, shallot, and spinach after 14 days was 96%, 90%, and 99%, respectively, with half-lives of <5 days. Meanwhile, dietary risk assessments of PCZ residues in the studied vegetables using the risk quotient (RQ) were significant < 100 (RQ < 100). Thus, the population groups considered in this study were not at substantial risk from consuming leafy vegetables sprayed with PCZ following critical, good agricultural practices.

한국과 일본 국가수준 보육과정 및 평가지표의 식생활교육 내용 비교 (A South Korea-Japan Comparative Study on the Contents of Dietary Education in the National Child-care Curriculums and Evaluations)

  • 본 연구는 한국과 일본 국가수준 보육과정 및 보육시설 평가지표의 식생활교육 내용을 비교하여, 양국의 식생활교육의 특성을 알아보고 한국 식생활교육의 방향성을 모색하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 한국은 표준보육과정, 누리과정 원본과 해설서 및 지침서 그리고 어린이집 평가인증통합지표를, 일본은 2018년 개정된 보육소보육지침해설과 제삼자평가지표를 분석하였다. 연구결과는 첫째, 한국의 경우 보육과정과 평가에서의 중점에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 보육과정은 영양 및 식사예절 등 바르게 먹기의 내용 구성 비중이, 평가지표는 청결 및 위생에 대한 내용 구성 비중이 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 일본의 경우 국가수준 보육과정 및 평가지표는 일관적으로 즐겁게 식사하기 관련 내용이 강조되었고, 이를 위한 다양한 방안을 제시하였다. 둘째, 식생활교육 접근 방식에 있어 한국은 음식에 관한 지식중심으로, 일본은 일상적 체험을 통해 식생활교육 내용을 접근하였다. 즉, 한국의 교육은 영양과 식사예절 관련 지식을 통해 바르게 먹기를 지향하고 있으며, 일본은 다양한 사람들과 관계를 통해 함께 즐기며 식사하기를 지향하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과는 어린이집에서의 식사지도 개선을 위한 방향성과, 즐겁게 먹기 강조를 위한 일관성 있는 보육과정 및 평가지표의 필요성을 시사한다.
