Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics between therapy continuity group and therapy discontinuity group and to develop management program for Korean patients with hypertension and diabetes. Methods: The subject of the study were 109 therapy continuity and 66 therapy discontinuity of Korea hypertension diabetes Daegu initiative. The data collection was performed from December 5 to December 30, 2008. Analysis of data was done by using descriptive statistics, chi-square test, t-test and ANCOVA with SPSS program. Results: 1) The groups were significantly correlated with such variables systolic BP(F=4.518, p=0.035) and diastolic BP(F=17.793, p=0.000). 2) The groups with hypertensive were significantly correlated with such variables perceived susceptibility of disease($\chi^2$=25.053, p=0.000), perceived barrier of health behavior($\chi^2$=12.584, p=0.006), drinking($\chi^2$=27.545, p=0.000), diet($\chi^2$=8.645, p=0.013), regular taking medicine($\chi^2$=92.415, p=0.000) and regular measurement of BP($\chi^2$=6.045, p=0.049). 3) The groups with diabetic were significantly correlated with such variables perceived seriousness of disease($\chi^2$=6.128, p=0.047), perceived susceptibility of disease($\chi^2$=8.079, p=0.018), health knowledge and attitude(F=8.418, p=0.006), drinking($\chi^2$=6.276, p=0.043), diet($\chi^2$=7.275, p=0.026), regular taking medicine($\chi^2$=33.083, p=0.000) and regular measurement of glucose($\chi^2$=7.233, p=0.027). Conclusion: The above findings indicate that it is necessary to develop and apply special management programs according to the therapy discontinuity group.
This study aimed to verify the nutritional and curative effects of protein hydrolysate in rats with cysteamine-induced duodenal uncer. Duodenal ulcer rat model was established by intraperitoneal injections of cysteamine. Sprague-Dawley, female rats weighing approximately 200g were intraperitoneally injected twice cysteamine(13mg/100g BW) at intervals of 3h per day. This procedure was repeated 3$\times$at intervals of 3d. Animals fed on 10% casein diet for infection periods. After last injection, 4 kinds of diets(10% casein, 20% casein, 10% casein hydrolysate, 20% casein hydrolysate) were given. Gastric montility, trypsin activity in gastrointestinal content, retention rate of nitrogen, plasma total protein, albumin, amino-N, urinary urea nitrogen, creatinine and hydroxyproline were analyzed for nutritional effects of dietary nitrogen levels(10%, 20%) and sources(casein, casein hydrolysate). In duodenal ulcer rat model, there was no differences between 20% casein diet and 20% casein hydrolysate in the view of severeness of ulcer, gastric emptying rate, serum total protein, serum albumin, plasma $\alpha$-amino-N, UUN, creatinine excretion, GFR, nitrogen retention. On the other hand, rats on 10% casein hydrolysate diet group had more curative effect of the ulcer, higher plasma albumin concentration and nitrogen retention than 10% casein diet group. The casein hydrolysate diet group was lower trypsin activity in small intestinal content than the casein diet group, at both nitrogen levels(10%, 20%). The results suggest that protein hydrolysate be applied in diet therapy for the patients with gastrointestinal ulcer.

[Purpose] Blood glucose and insulin resistance were lower following hypoxic exposure in previous studies. However, the effect of hypoxia as therapy in obese model has not been unknown. [Methods] Six-week-old mice were randomly divided into chow diet (n=10) and high-fat diet (HFD) groups (n=20). The chow diet group received a non-purified commercial diet (65 % carbohydrate, 21 % protein, and 14 % fat) and water ad libitum. The HFD group was fed an HFD (Research Diet, #D12492; 60% kcal from fat, 5.24 kcal/g). Both groups consumed their respective diet for 7 weeks. Subsequently, HFD-induced mice (12-weeks-old) were randomly divided into two treatment groups : HFD-Normoxia (HFD; n=10) and HFD-Hypoxia (HYP; n=10, fraction of inspired=14.6%). After treatment for 4 weeks, serum glucose, insulin and oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTT) were performed. [Results] Homeostatic model assessment values for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) of the HYP group tended to be lower than the HFD group. Regarding the OGTT, the area under the curve was 13% lower for the HYP group than the HFD group. [Conclusion] Insulin resistance tended to be lower and glucose uptake capacity was significantly augmented under hypoxia. From a clinical perspective, exposure to hypoxia may be a practical method of treating obesity.
The present study was aimed to investigate the effects of the application of pulsed electromagnetic fields on the blood components associated hyperlipidemia, antioxidant enzymes and reactive oxygen. The subjects were divided into three groups: General Diet, High fat Diet, High fat diet and pulsed electromagnetic fields. Pulsed electromagnetic field was applied with pulsed electromagnetic energy therapy equipment. The Glucose, free fatty acids, triglycerides, cholesterol and insulin was used to measure hyperlipidemia-related blood components, and the GSH, GRD, XO and MDA was used to measure antioxidant enzymes and reactive oxygen. The applied pulsed electromagnetic field has improved the concentrations of blood components and increasing GSH and GRD, that were decreased due to a high-fat diet and by reducing the increased MDA and XO to a level of general diet group. Therefore, the applied pulsed electromagnetic field can be the effective treatment for changes in the blood composition of hyperlipidemic rats, enhancement of antioxidative activity and the inhibition of reactive oxygen.
Background: A reasonable weight reduction is to reduce fat-body mass while preserving free-fat mass. Recently, many people in Korea have been trying reckless diet therapy for weight reduction by low calory and protein diets, which gave rise to many side effects consequently. For reasonable weight reduction, this study was undertaken to investigate the influential diet factors that change body composition during short-term low calory diet. Methods: 26 healthy obese women aged 23-27 years whose BMI was greater than 24volunteered for the 6 week diet therapy from January to April in 2003. All subjects were instructed to eat approximately 1200kca1/day and write dietary diary. In the beginning of the study, the 3rd week and the 6th week, subjects' body weight and fat body weight were measured by BlA. In the 6th week, the analysis of dietary diary was conducted. Results : There was significant positive correlation between protein intake per ideal bodyweight in the first 3 weeks and free fat mass increase in the later 3 weeks (P<0.05). At the same time, fat intake in the first 3 weeks had positive correlation with free fat mass in the second 3 weeks, too(P<0.05). But, we could not find any significant values that had effect on free fat mass increase in multiple regression analysis. Conclusion: The protein intake in the first 3 weeks helps preserve fat free mass in the later 3 weeks, and has positive effects.
This study was designed to determine the effects of protein sources on the curation of gastric ulceration, protein metabolism, and nitrogen balance in rats with gastric ulcer induce by restraint and water immersion stress. After the rats were fed 10% casein diet for 3 weeks, four groups of the rats were forced in 5$\times$5$\times$15cm plexiglass cage. The restraint and water immersion stress was carried at 20$\pm$2$^{\circ}C$ for 8-hour. The other one group(control group) was not exposed to stress. After stress 4 kinds of different diets containing 20% protein were given for 5 days. The protein sources were casein, whey protein, soy protein, gluten. The control group was fed to 10% casein diet. The results were as follows ; the weights of rats were not different among the diet groups During the experiment period follows ; the weights of rats were not different among the diet groups during the experiment period (for 5 days). The ulcer index of rats fed 10% gluten and soy protein diet was significantly higher than those of casein and whey protein diet groups(p<0.05). The level of serum albumin was not significantly different among diet groups. But hematocrit and the level of $\alpha$-amino-N, BU and UUN of plant protein diet groups were higher than animal diet groups, the urinary hydroxyproline of soy protein group was the highest and the whey protein was the lowest. The digestibility and BV of nitrogen of gluten diet group were significantly higher than those of casein and whey protein diet groups(p<0.05). The animal proteins had more curative effects of ulcer than plant animals. The results of this study provide useful information concerning diet therapy for the patients with gastrointestinal diseases and the field of enteral diet materials.
The purpose of this study was to find the sociopsychological factors influencing the compliance of dietary regimen in diabetes by using focus group interviews. The data were collected from fifty three diabetes patients in eleven focus groups from September 1997 to March , 1998 in Seoul and Suwon Korea. The interviews were tape-recorded and the contents of the interviews were analysed by researchers. The subjects knew the causes, complications, and therapies of diabetes although they were incorrect at times . Patients had a wide range of outcome expectations from very optimistic to pessimistic. They recognized diabetes as a disease which needs life-time care, and they though that good care could provide a normal life. One the other hand they thought diabetes could lead to death through complications, and cause financial problems as well as social isolation. As for self-efficacy they recognized the importance of compliance to diet regimen but they thought the diet therapy was very difficult and were not very willing to follow it. They felt medical professionals, especially doctors, were influential for the therapies. However they frequently felt counselling provided by doctors was insufficient in time and content and led to attitude problems. They felt support from families and others was often insufficient and inadequate. Nutrition education fostering outcome expectation, social support, and self-efficacy is needed to increased compliance. The most influential referents were medical professional including doctors, nurses, dieticians, so their role in diet therapy should by emphasized.
The research studied the nutritional composition and health effects of the Giwongo with its efficacy in providing nourishment to blood, liver and kidney as well as being an aid to the mental stability. The Giwongo is made by boiling the same amounts of Lycium fructus and Longanae arillus. Giwongo was analyzed to measure proximate nutritional composition, mineral contents, free sugar content and polyphenol compound content. The DPPH scavenging activity and its antioxidative effectiveness were also analyzed. Giwongo was composed of 16.7% water, 4.9% crude protein, 3.7% crude fat, 3.8%, crude ash 70.9% carbohydrate with the content per 100 g of 336.5 kcal. The Giwongo mineral contents were potassium, sodium and calcium in sequence according to contents. Per 100 g Giwongo were found 9.62 g glucose, 4.67 g fructose and 18.00 g sugar. The Giwongo had 60.67% DPPH electron donating ability and $32.19^{\circ}Brix$. The Giwongo made of Lycium fructus and Longanae arillus had effectiveness of tonify the liver and kidney, nourish blood, and psychologic stability. As such Giwongo may help prevent the symptoms of unbalanced health due to excessive stress and unhealthy diet.

The purpose of this investigation is examining how treatment for foot reflex massage affect the changes in body temperature and blood composition. The cases of experiment are 10 male(n=2) and female(n=8) who don't have special clinical problems. This is the process of experiment. First, we photograph the anterior part and posterior of the upper, lower half of the body with an infrared imaging system. Second, among same parts, we compare the temperature of the whole body before treatment for foot reflex massage with the temperature after it. Then we draw blood from the body and observe a change: in numerical value of blood before and after treatment. Before and after treatment, we come to measure temperature of the whole body, the numerical value of WBC, RBC, platelet, HCT, Hb through analysis of blood, and the result of AST(GOT), ALT(GPT), ALP, GGT through analysis of serum enzyme activity of blood. There were no significant differences in blood composition. In terms of SPSS statistic program, when we explain each numerical value before and after foot massage, the abdominal, the buttocks, the femoral region universally take successful results about a change in body temperature(p<0.05).
