This study was conducted to distribution characteristic of root diameter class between natural and planted stands of one-age class in Pinus densiflora for. eracta in Gangwon. Root development presented that 0.5-2.0 mm diameter class was large part in total root number and length but 0.5-2.0 mm diameter class have a low distribution in each stand. Below 5.0 mm diameter class between natural and planted stands observed outstanding natural stand more than planted stand, but reverse over 5.0 mm diameter class. Root development depending on soil level of vertical and horizontal was presented various natural stand more than planted stand because root distribution of planted stand was concentrated low soil level in 10 cm of soil depth and 20 cm of soil horizontal layer. We can understand that the root distribution presented different between natural and planted stand, therefore this result can used as a basic information for correct of outplanting.
Investigation was carried out on response of Tetrapleura tetraptera (Schum. and Thonn.) to soil, water and light with the view of its domestication and introduction to different ecological regions. The experiment was arranged in a factorial experiment of $3{\times}3{\times}3$ in a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replicates. The factors were: soil textural class (Loamy sand, Sand and Sandy clay loam), watering regime (daily, twice a week and once a week) and light intensity (100%, 75% and 50%). Soil textural classes had significant influence on collar diameter, stem height, number of leaflets, root/shoot ratio and relative growth rate of Tetrapleura seedlings. Seedlings grown on loamy sand recorded the highest mean value- 2.28 mm for collar diameter, stem height- 12.9 cm, number of leaflets- 19.9, chlorophyll b- $0.34mg\;mL^{-1}$, leaf relative water content- 27.4% and relative growth rate- $0.037mg\;g^{-1}\;day^{-1}$. Watering regime had significant influence on the collar diameter of Tetrapleura. Seedlings watered daily recorded the highest mean value- 2.25 mm for collar diameter. Light intensity significantly influenced collar diameter and root/shoot ratio. Seedlings exposed to 100% light intensity recorded higher mean value for collar diameter- 2.28 mm and root/shoot ratio- 1.481 cm. The interaction between soil textural class and light intensity significantly affected collar diameter, stem height and number of leaflets. Higher mean value for collar diameter (2.47 mm) stem height (13.25 cm) and number of leaflets (21.16) were recorded while the interaction between soil textural class, light intensity and watering regime was significant for only number of leaflets. Tetrapleura exhibited some level of tolerance to different soil texture, drought and light intensity. Therefore, Tetrapleura has the potentials to be raised in different ecological zones characterized by difference in soil, rainfall and amount of sunshine.
This study was carried out to analyze annual diameter growth characteristics for major 11 tree species using the data for Gangwon province of the National Forest Resources Inventory in 2007. The annual diameter growth of coniferous species was 5.02 mm, 4.70 mm, and 3.90 mm in Korean white pine, Japanese larch, and Korean red pine, respectively. In growths of the deciduous trees, dogwood, basswood, and cork oak had 3.55 mm, 3.48 mm and 3.01 mm, respectively. Average of the annual diameter growths for all species was 3.38 mm. The relationship between diameter growth and age class showed that the growth rate decreased for all species as age increased. The age class II had the highest annual diameter rate. In relation of the stand density(trees per hectare) and diameter growth, the diameter growth tended to decrease as the stand density increased for most species, especially Korean white pine, cork oak, and basswood. Finally age had the highest value in the correlation coefficients between measurement factor and growth rate regardless of species.
This study was carried out to figure out the number of logs for sawtimber by DBH and height class and to compare merchantable volume ratio by categorizing into sawtimber, lagging board and pulpwood, and others for Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis, and Larix kaempferi. Logs for sawtimber were hardly produced in small DBH class of three species, but produced evidently from medium DBH class. In large DBH class, the number of logs for sawtimber were noticeably different among species: 4.3 logs for L. kaempferi, 2.6 logs for P. densiflora, and 1.0 logs for P. koraiensis on average. Similarly, merchantable volume ratio for sawtimber were largely different among species in large DBH class with higher than 15 m: 82% logs for L. kaempferi, 60% logs for P. densiflora, and 44% logs for P. koraiensis. When compared to the upper diameter and upper height by species with regard to the last log of a tree produced for sawtimber, upper diameter was smallest with 14.1 cm and upper height was highest with 12.2 m in L. kaempferi. Overall, L. kaempferi was considered as the more commercial species for sawtimber production than P. densiflora and P. koraiensis.
Receptor-mediated endocytosis has been suggested for a stage-specific transport mechanism of vitellogenin into the oocytes of a sabellid poly chaete, Pseudopotamilla occelata. Membrane proteins of oocytes of three size classes, including small (30-70 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in diameter), intermediate (70-140 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in diameter) and large (180-200 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in diameter), showed a atage-specific variation. Coelomic fluid proteins (CP), ass$\mu\textrm{m}$ed to be vitellogenin, consists of several proteins, which showed quite a different pattern from that of yolk proteins. Incorporation of $^{125}I$-CP into the oocytes of the intermediate size class almost linearly increases with time, showing a contrast to the pattern of the large size class, in which the incorporation is low and approaches a plateau, suggesting the vitellogenin transports by a regulated process only in the intermediate size class. Vitellogenin receptor proteins were identified to be 60 kDa and 68 kDa only in the intermediate size class by a ligand blotting test.
This study was conducted to estimate merchantable volume and yield per diameter (DBH) class of Pinus koraiensis and Larix kaempferi. Stem volume of trees in each diameter class was calculated using the existing equations for taper and height curve. Saw logs and pulpwood volume were then estimated from the stem volume in each diameter class. The final step was to estimate merchantable volume and yield from saw logs, assuming saw logs were used for lumber (boards or dimension products) production only. The results showed that the stem volume of Larix kaempferi was 23~38% higher than that of Pinus koraiensis at the same diameter classes. Both species were able to produce saw logs from the diameter class of 18 cm. Saw logs and pulpwood yield for both species rapidly increased due to the size limitation on small end diameter. This yield reached a maximum of 90% and 88% at 26 cm and 38cm diameter class, respectively, for Pinus koraiensis and Larix kaempferi. Lumber yield estimated for board products ranged from 23% to 56%. In the case of dimension products, Lumber yield became significantly smaller as saw logs were used for larger dimension products. These results can be used for calculating merchantable volume and economic value of trees, as well as determining final lumber products.

The scale of wind turbines has continuously increased over the last decade. Especially, the rapid growth of the rotor diameter has brought about the increase of the tower height and the load on the rotor blade, as can be seen in the case of a 5MW class wind turbine with 126m rotor diameter. This trend means the increasing possibility of system failure. In addition to that, it is impossible for human operators to stay and manage all the turbines in the case of a large-scale wind farm. For these reasons, the operation and maintenance technology is getting more importance. In this paper, we present an unmanned remote monitoring system for MW class wind turbines and its application to YeungHeung wind test bed.
A result of Hardy and Littlewood relates Holder continuity of analytic functions in the unit disk with a bound on the derivative. Gehring and Martio extended this result to the class of uniform domains. In this paper we obtain a similar result to the class of uniformly John domains in terms of the inner diameter metric. We give several properties of a domain with the property. Also we show some results on the Holder continuity of conjugate harmonic functions in the above domains.
Diameter distributions describe forest stand structure information. Prediction equations for percentiles of diameter distribution and parameter recovery procedures for the Weibull distribution function based on four percentile equations were applied to develop prediction system of even-aged slash pine stand structure development in terms of the number of stems per diameter class changes. Four percentiles of the cumulative diameter distribution were predicted as a function of stand characteristics. The predicted diameter distributions were tested against the observed diameter distributions using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov two sample test at the ${\alpha}$=0.05 level. Statistically, no significant differences were detected based on the data from 236 evaluation data sets. This stand level diameter distribution prediction system will be useful in slash pine stand structure modeling and in updating forest inventories for the long-term forest management planning.
This study was carried out to provide basic data for active control of the anticipated damage through investigation and analysis of geographical and spatial occurrence distribution of oak wilt disease area. The damage of oak wilt disease was analyzed by investigating all the damage trees caused by oak wilt disease from 2011 to 2015 in three areas of Gwangtan-myeon, Paju-si, Gyeonggi -do. As a result, the closer to the ridge the more damage of the oak wilt was generated. Therefore, it is necessary to select the central management area from 0 to 40 m based on the ridge line for more effective control, and to intensively control the area. Also, it is difficult to predict the occurrence of damage by the slope because the damage situation represent differently by the region. By the diameter class, it was analyzed that the number of damaged trees was the largest in the average diameter class with the most number of the trees in each region.
