Seismic upgrading of reinforced concrete frames with steel plate shear walls

  • The objective of this paper is to report on a study of the use of unstiffened thin steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) for the seismic performance improvement of reinforced concrete frames with deficient lateral rigidity. The behaviour of reinforced concrete frames during seismic activities was rehabilitated with an alternative and occupant-friendly retrofitting scheme. The study involved tests of eight 1/3 scale, one bay, two storey test specimens under cyclic quasi-static lateral loadings. The first specimen, tested in previous test program, was a reference specimen, and in seven other specimens, steel infill plates were used to replace the conventional infill brick or the concrete panels. The identification of the load-deformation characteristics, the determination of the level of improvement in the overall strength, and the elastic post-buckling stiffness were the main issues investigated during the quasi-static test program. With the introduction of the SPSWs, it was observed that the strength, stiffness and energy absorption capacities were significantly improved. It was also observed that the experimental hysteresis curves were stable, and the composite systems showed excellent energy dissipation capacities due to the formation of a diagonal tension field action along with a diagonal compression buckling of the infill plates.

Experimental investigation of the shear strength of hollow brick unreinforced masonry walls retrofitted with TRM system

  • The study is part of an experimental program on full-scale Un-Reinforced Masonry (URM) wall panels strengthened with Textile reinforced mortars (TRM). Eight brick walls (two with and five without central opening), were tested under the diagonal tension (shear) test method in order to investigate the strengthening system effectiveness on the in-plane behaviour of the walls. All the URM panels consist of the innovative components, named "Orthoblock K300 bricks" with vertical holes and a thin layer mortar. Both of them have great capacity and easy application and can be constructed much more rapidly than the traditional bricks and mortars, increasing productivity, as well as the compressive strength of the masonry walls. Several parameters pertaining to the in-plane shear behaviour of the retrofitted panels were investigated, including shear capacity, failure modes, the number of layers of the external TRM jacket, and the existence of the central opening of the wall. For both the control and retrofitted panels, the experimental shear capacity and failure mode were compared with the predictions of existing prediction models (ACI 2013, TA 2000, Triantafillou 1998, Triantafillou 2016, CNR 2018, CNR 2013, Eurocode 6, Eurocode 8, Thomoglou et al. 2020). The experimental work allowed an evaluation of the shear performance in the case of the bidirectional textile (TRM) system applied on the URM walls. The results have shown that some analytical models present a better accuracy in predicting the shear resistance of all the strengthened masonry walls with TRM systems which can be used in design guidelines for reliable predictions.

대역의 특성을 이용한 웨이블렛 기반 영상 압축 부호화 (Wavelet-Based Image Compression Using the Properties of Subbands)

  • 본 논문에서는 웨이블렛 변환에 의해서 얻어진 고주파 대역에 웨이블렛 변환을 반복 적용하면 분해된 대역들이 필터링 방향에 따라서 대역 내의 웨이블렛 계수의 자승합으로 정의되는 에너지량을 다르게 갖는 특성을 이용하여 영상을 압축 부호화한다. 2차원 영상에 웨이블렛 변환을 적용하면 하나의 저해상도 영상과 세 개의 고주파 대역을 얻을 수 있다. 원영상에 포함되어 있는 고주파 성분은 웨이블렛 변환에 의해서 수평 방향, 수직 방향, 대각 방향의 윤곽선 형태로 세 개의 고주파 대역에 나뉘어서 존재하게 된다. 이러한 세 개의 고주파 대역에 다시 웨이블렛 변환을 적용하면, 윤곽선 방향과 동일한 방향으로 저역 통과 필터링되어 얻어진 대역에서는 에너지량이 크게 나타나지만, 윤곽선 방향과 동일한 방향으로 고역 통과 필터링되어 얻어진 대역에서는 에너지량이 적게 나타난다. 그러므로, 효율적인 압축을 위하여 에너지량이 적은 대역들을 부호화 과정에서 제외하며 제외되지 않은 나머지 대역들은 대역에 따라 DPCM 또는 임계값을 이용하여 양자화한 후에 엔트로피 부호화한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 방법은 압축률과 화질면에서 기존의 웨이블렛 변환과 벡터 양자화를 이용한 방법보다 우수한 성능을 보인다는 것을 실험을 통하여 제시하였다.

팔 외전 시 몸통의 피부 변화량 분석과 이를 활용한 3D 컴프레션 상의 설계 (Design of 3D compression upper wear based on skin deformation during arm abduction)

  • Lines of non-extension (LoNEs) on torso surface during arm abduction were investigated to provide appropriate location for inserting less-extensible yarns which can be used as seams for design and or clothing pressure variation. As experimental methods, reference points about 3 cm apart were marked on the skin and scanned at 30, $90^{\circ}$ and $135^{\circ}$ arm abduction. Skin deformation was measured by connecting reference points in horizontal, vertical and various angles of diagonal directions. Observation of skin deformation was made within the separated sections of the torso as well as integrated ones to cover the various occasions of design application. LoNEs of front and back torso were provided as mapping lines. Actual compression wear of three types was constructed with different pattern reduction rate at each separated section using LoNEs as boundary cutting lines. Clothing pressure and subjective evaluations of those three compression wear were evaluated by six subjects. LoNEs found in this study were useful as seam lines to differentiate clothing pressure at each part of the body, providing positive wear sensation. It is also expected that LoNEs can be paths for less strechable conductive yarns of IT-integrated upper garments.

Seismic performance of RC columns retrofitted using high-strength steel strips under high axial compression ratios

  • In this paper, the impact on seismic performance of an economical effective technique for retrofitting reinforced concrete (RC) columns using high-strength steel strips under high axial compression ratios was presented. The experimental program included a series of cyclic loading tests on one nonretrofitted control specimen and three retrofitted specimens. The effects of the axial compression ratio and spacing of the steel strips on the cyclic behavior of the specimens were studied. Based on the test results, the failure modes, hysteretic characteristics, strength and stiffness degradation, displacement ductility, and energy dissipation capacity of the specimens were analyzed in-depth. The analysis showed that the transverse confinement provided by the high-strength steel strips could effectively delay and restrain diagonal crack development and improve the failure mode, which was flexural-shear failure controlled by flexural failure with better ductility. The specimens retrofitted using high-strength steel strips showed more satisfactory seismic performance than the control specimen. The seismic performance and deformation capacity of the retrofitted RC columns increased with decreasing axial compression ratio and steel strip spacing. Based on the test results, a hysteretic model for RC columns that considers the transverse confinement of high-strength steel strips was then established. The hysteretic model showed good agreement with the experimental results, which verified the effectiveness of the proposed hysteretic model. Therefore, the aforementioned analysis can be used for the design of retrofitted RC columns.

  • 본 논문은 인덱스 영상의 무손실 압축을 위한 적응적 순위 기반 재인덱싱 기법에서 동일 빈도 값에 대한 우선 순위 결정 방법을 제안한다. 발생빈도행렬에서 동일 빈도 값에 대한 우선순위 결정은 발생빈도행렬의 임의의 행에서 물리적으로 처음 위치한 빈도 값, 주대각선 주위에 위치한 빈도 값, 민도 값이 큰 원소의 주위에 위치한 빈도값을 사용한다. 실험 결과, 제안 방법은 기존의 Zeng과 Pinho의 방법보다 1.71 비트까지 절감 효율을 보였다.

단결정 압축 변형 거동의 변형구배 결정소성 유한요소해석 (Strain Gradient Crystal Plasticity Finite Element Modeling for the Compression Behaviors of Single Crystals)

  • A strain-gradient crystal plasticity finite element method(SGCP-FEM) was utilized to simulate the compressive deformation behaviors of single-slip, (111)[$10{\bar{1}}$], oriented FCC single-crystal micro-pillars with two different slip-plane inclination angles, $36.3^{\circ}$ and $48.7^{\circ}$, and the simulation results were compared with those from conventional crystal plasticity finite element method(CP-FEM) simulations. For the low slip-plane inclination angle, a macroscopic diagonal shear band formed along the primary slip direction in both the CP- and SGCP-FEM simulations. However, this shear deformation was limited in the SGCP-FEM, mainly due to the increased slip resistance caused by local strain gradients, which also resulted in strain hardening in the simulated flow curves. The development of a secondly active slip system was altered in the SGCP-FEM, compared to the CP-FEM, for the low slip-plane inclination angle. The shear deformation controlled by the SGCP-FEM reduced the overall crystal rotation of the micro-pillar and limited the evolution of the primary slip system, even at 10 % compression.

전단보강근이 없는 보의 거동 (Behaviour of Beams Without Transverse Reinforcement)

  • 전단보강근이 없는 보의 거동을 이해하기 위하여 서로 다른 트러스 개념으로부터 출발한 두 종류의 해석방법 및 배경이론[압축응력장(MCFT) 및 균열마찰 (CFTM)이론]을 수단으로 콘크리트 기여강도($V_c$)를 구성하는 i)압축지역의 전단응력, ii)균열면의 마찰작용, iii)주근의 장부작용, iv)아치작용 및 최근에 추가된 v)비균열 부위 잔류 인장강도의 상대적인 중요도를 물리적으로 설명하였다. 또한, 두 해석모델의 평가를 위하여, 최근 국내에서 파괴역학 개념의 크기 효과식 개발에 보다 초점을 맞추어 수행된 일련의 고강도 콘크리트보의 실험결과(20개, $f'_c$=53.7Mpa)를 예측하였다. 예측결과에 의하면, 두 해석모델은 a/d비, 주근량 및 보의 춤이 변화함에 따라 관측된 물리적 현상을 정확하게 포착하고 있었으며, 특히 MCFT로부터 얻어낸 보다 자세한 응력 및 변형도 분포 등에 관한 정보는 일련의 추가적인 설명을 가능하게 하였다. 하지만, 보다 완전한 이론적 배경을 지니고 있는 MCFT는 P4.6 및 D915의 파괴하중을 각각 다소 과소 및 과대 평가하는 경향을 나타내고 있어, 주근량 및 크기효과에 대한 보다 완전한 결론을 유도하기 위해서는 추가적인 실험적 연구가 필요한 것으로 판단되었다.

선자름 방법을 이용한 JPEG2000에서의 부호차 시간 단축 알고리즘 (Compression-time Shortening Algorithm on JPEG2000 using Pre-Truncation Method)

  • 본 논문에서는 정지 영상의 압축 방식인 JPEG2000에서 영상의 질을 일정하게 유지하면서 부호화 시간을 단축시키는 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 전체 이미지의 주파수 분포를 추정하여 출력 비트스트림을 위한 최적의 자름점(Truncation Point)을 찾아 선택된 비트플레인만 부호화하는 방법이다. 다해상도의 특징을 갖는 웨이블렛은 각각의 해상도마다 수직, 수평 및 대각선 주파수 성분을 얻을 수 있다. 이 주파수 상관관계는 전체 레벨에서 유지되며 입력영상에 따라 고유한 주파수 특징을 나타낸다. 따라서, 최상위 레벨의 주파수 관계로 각각의 코드블럭에서 부호화할 비트를 예측하여 적절한 자름점을 선택할 수 있어 부호화 시간을 단축시켰다. 또한 명도 성분보다는 에너지가 작은 컬러 성분에서 부호화 되지 않는 하위 레벨은 단순한 다운 샘플링만으로 저주파 통과 필터를 대신함으로써 부호화 시간을 줄이는 성과를 보였다. 이러한 제안된 알고리즘으로 부호화 시간을 약 15~36% 줄였으며 PSNR을 30$\pm$0.5㏈로 유지하였다.

Shear behavior of composite frame inner joints of SRRC column-steel beam subjected to cyclic loading

  • In this paper, cyclic loading tests on composite frame inner joints of steel-reinforced recycled concrete (SRRC) column-steel beam were conducted. The main objective of the test was to obtain the shear behavior and analyze the shear strength of the joints. The main design parameters in the test were recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) replacement percentage and axial compression ratio. The failure process, failure modes, hysteresis curves and strain characteristics of the joints were obtained, and the influences of design parameters on the shear strength of the joints have been also analysed in detail. Results show that the failure modes of the joints area are typical shear failure. The shear bearing capacity of the joints maximally decreased by 10.07% with the increase in the RCA replacement percentage, whereas the shear bearing capacity of the joints maximally increased by 16.6% with the increase in the axial compression ratio. A specific strain analysis suggests that the shear bearing capacity of the joints was mainly provided by the three shear elements of the recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) diagonal compression strut, steel webs and stirrups of the joint area. According to the shear mechanism and test results, the calculation formulas of the shear bearing capacity of the three main shear elements were deduced separately. Thus, the calculation model of the shear bearing capacity of the composite joints considering the adverse effects of the RCA replacement percentage was established through a superposition method. The calculated values of shear strength based on the calculation model were in good agreement with the test values. It indicates that the calculation method in this study can reasonably predict the shear bearing capacity of the composite frame inner joints of SRRC column-steel beam.
