Preoperative diagnoses were unstable angina in 13 of patients, stable angina in 8, postmyocardial infarction state in 7, and state of failed percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty [ PTCA in 2. The patterns of disease were single vessel involvement [ 17cases , double vessel involvement [ 7 cases , triple vessel involvement [ 3 cases , Lt main lesion including Lt. ostial lesion [ 3 cases . Saphenous vein grafts were used in 27/30 patients [ 90% , and internal mammary artery grafts were used in 6/30 patients [ 20% . The hospital mortality was 13.3% and all survivors were asymptomatic and improved over their preoperative status.

  • Ecosystem health assessment is an emerging concept regarded as a useful diagnostic tool for evaluating ecosystems. The stability of ecosystem is the main theme in the assessment. Generally, two components - resilience and resistance - are involved in the mechanism of ecosystem stability. In this study, relative degrees of the resistance and the resilience were quantified for most aquatic Insects Inhabiting running waters in Korea. A total of 34 groups were newly categorized based on previous studies, and a conceptual model has been produced. The model was applied for the aquatic insect communities inhabiting different streams and demonstrated that each stream ecosystem possessed different degrees of stability. This study also indicated that it was possible to compare stabilities of different ecosystems using relative degrees of resilience and resistance. Using the conceptual model, suitable conservation and management strategies could be recommended in ecological assessments. The model can be used as a stepping-stone for developing more comprehensive methodology that objectively diagnoses and evaluates the ecosystem stability.

  • Ever since gold was found, this element has fascinated human beings. It is stable in air, and is illuminating for several thousands years without changing its colors. Nanoparticles are the basic nanommaterials, and, particularly gold nanoparticles show unique properties which are not shown in bulk states. Scientists are trying to apply these new properties to catalysts, bioscience, optics, etc. Judging from the current research activities, one can envisage that gold nanoparticles can play a major role in opening a new era in diagnoses and treatment of diseases like cancers. However to apply the nanoparticles one must modify the surface of the nanoparticles in order to give the materials certain functionalities. It certainly is worth to review the current research status and challenges in the area of functional gold nanoparticles.

  • The diagnosis of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) is based on patient's age at disease onset, symptom duration, gender, and clinical manifestations. JRA is of unknown origin, begins under the age of 16, and persists for a minimum of 6 weeks. JRA is categorized into three principal types, systemic, oligoarticular and polyarticular. Infection, other connective tissue diseases, malignancy, trauma, and immunodeficiency are discussed as differential diagnoses for JRA. Because of joint damage, focusing on early diagnosis and intervention, a vigorous initial therapeutic approach must be taken in patients who have poor prognostic factors. A multidisciplinary team approach is also important for the care of patients with JRA.

  • We reviewed ten South Korean species of the genera Acrodactyla Haliday, 1838 and Acropimpla Townes, 1960. Only Acropimpla persimilis (Ashmead, 1906) has been distributed in South Korea, and Acrodactyla is recorded for the first time from South Korea. We report nine newly recorded species: Acrodactyla carinator (Aubert, 1965), Acrodactyla degener (Haliday, 1838), Acrodactyla lydia Kasparyan, 1979, Acrodactyla takewakii (Uchida, 1927), Acrodactyla varicarinata (Uchida and Momoi, 1958), Acropimpla aspera Gupta and Tikar, 1976, Acropimpla didyma (Gravenhorst, 1829), Acropimpla nakula Gupta and Tikar, 1976 and Acropimpla pictipes (Gravenhorst, 1829). Keys to South Korean species of the genera Acrodactyla and Acropimpla, diagnoses and illustrations are provided.

  • One of the largest genera of subfamily Ophioninae, Ophion, has been reported 144 species in the World. Nevertheless, recorded members of genus Ophion are 40 species in the Eastern Palaearctic region, 8 in South Korea (O. ainoicus, O. choaspese, O. flavopictus, O. fuscomaculatus, O. luteus luteus, O. obscuratus obscuratus, O. okunii, O. takaozanus). In this paper, a taxonomic list of genus Ophion from South Korea is provided for the first time. Two newly recorded species, Ophion hokkaidonis Uchida and Ophion nikkonis Uchida, are reported from South Korea. A key to these South Korean species, diagnoses of the two newly recorded species and digital images are provided.

  • Support vector machines (SVMs) have become one of the most popular approaches to learning from examples and have many potential applications in science and engineering. However, their applications in fault diagnosis of rotating machinery are rather limited. Most of the published papers focus on some special fault diagnoses. This study covers the overall diagnosis procedures on most of the faults experienced in rotating machinery and examines the performance of different SVMs strategies. The excellent characteristics of SVMs are demonstrated by comparing the results obtained by artificial neural networks (ANNs) using vibration signals of a fault simulator.

  • Villoglandular adenocarcinoma of uterine cervix has recently been described, and is characterized by good prognosis and occurrence in young women, except a small number of cases. Morphologically, it exclusively shows villoglandular growth and mild to moderate nuclear atypia, the cytologic diagnoses have been frequently missed due to interpretation error. We report here on the cytologic findings of two cases, and both cases were not diagnosed as adenocarcinoma before punch biopsy. One of these cases showed previously described characteristic features such as high cellularity and large tissue fragments with long villous fronds lined by columnar cell with mild nuclear atypia. The other showed moderate cellularity of somewhat smaller clusters without long villous structures. The clusters showed marked nuclear overlapping and the nuclei showed distinct moderate atypia with hyperchromasia and coarse chromatin pattern. The nucleoli were indistinct. Recognition of these features will be helpful to avoid underdiagnosis as a benign lesion, although diagnosis is still difficult in a portion of the cases.

  • As cultural Heritages are source of the national history and a life transition, their extinction is a fatal shock as result of cutoff the genealogy of the creative national spirit. So, we have necessarily to protect them, and to get the duty and the responsibility which the cultural inheritance hands over tnem to descendants with preserving and meaning safely at present time. In these days, the risk of fire in the Cultural Heritages building is increased because of rash changing environments from the indiscreet development of them. Accordingly, in order to get the original transmission of the Cultural Heritages, this paper involves being intensive the fire safety information of the Cultural Heritage in kyonggi-do province, analyzing their diagnoses, and studying a Fire Safety Prevention Management model to protect and to maintain them continuously. Therefore, it is to contribute from this approach to collecting fire safety information, analyzing diagnostic problems in fire accidents, and to manage the prevention method for protecting and maintaining the Cultural Heritages.

  • Seizures in the neonatal period are common and frequently indicate serious underlying brain injury. Neonatal seizures continue to present a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge to pediatricians because recognition and classification of neonatal seizures remain problematic, particularly when clinicians rely only on clinical criteria. Neonatal seizures can permanently disrupt neuronal development, induce synaptic reorganization, alter plasticity, and "prime" the brain to increased damage from seizures later in life. Since neonatal seizures predict an increased risk for later epilepsy and other neurological sequelae, accurate diagnoses are needed for aggressive antiepileptic drug use. The present review summarizes the treatment and prognosis of neonatal seizures.
