A study on the development of DC-DC converter for low-power DSC

  • In this research, we have studied the development of dc-dc converter suitable for the driving of mobile instruments by using a dye-sensitized solar cell(DSC). We also have designed a interlocking circuit. The circuit makes power generation be saved in one battery and concurrently be discharged in the other battery. As this application, mobile devices such as MP3, cellular phone are operated by using power generator from DSC during the daytime and they can be operated by using the saving energy of the daytime during the night. Consequently, it has a simple and robust circuit configuration. Besides, we designed dc-dc converter circuit to drive low power instruments by using NMOS switch and PMOS rectifier. Operational modes are analysed, and then validity of the proposed interface circuit is verified through DCS.

  • Electrical equipment for railway is always experiencing wear and degradation by mechanical, electrical and environmental stress in service and the fault or the accident of high voltage main circuit directly causes operation interruption. Particularly propulsion drive of high speed switching inverter takes the form of specific degradation mechanism such as fast rising transient surge, reflective overvoltage and harmonic stress, and it is known that it threatens the long life and the reliability of electrical equipment. In this paper, statistics of fault and accident on main electrical equipment for railway are presented and also insulation degradation mechanism, which governs end life of electrical device, is analyzed. Finally the method of fault respondence and reliability improvement on the main electrical equipments will be reviewed in order to prevent operation interruption.

  • In this paper the new converter topology using single-Phase full bridge inverter for the switched reluctance motor drives is proposed. The proposed SRM drives are supplied by the AC pulse voltage source, while the conventional drives are supplied by the DC voltage source. Speed of the SRM is controlled by adjusting the frequency and the multitude of output current of inverter. The SRM using the proposed converter reduces the switching loss and the machine core loss, and has ability to pre-regulate the input voltage. The total number of power switches become fewer than another topology as a number of stator poles becomes more. Power circuit of an inverter is simpler and its volume is smaller because the module device involving several switches is used as an inverter.

  • In this paper, transient characteristics of the Punch Through Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (PT-IGBT) have been studied. On the contrary to Non-Punch Through Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor(NPT-IGBT), it has a buffer layer and reduces switching power loss. It has a simple drive circuit controlled by the gate voltage of the MOSFET and low on-state resistance of the bipolar junction transistor. The transient characteristics of the PT-IGBT have been analyzed analytically. Excess minority carrier and charge distribution in active base region, the rate of anode voltage with time are expressed analytically by adding the influence of buffer layer. The experimental data is obtained from manufacturer. The theoretical predictions of the analysis have been compared with the experimental data obtained from the measurement of a device(600 V, 15 A) and show good agreement.

  • This paper proposes a design of stepper motor control in microstep driven mode using FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) for hardware implementation. The methods to drive stepper motor in microstep excitation mode are to control of the controlling currents in each phase windings of stepper motor with reference signals. These reference signals are used for controlling the current levels, the required variation of current levels with rotor position can be obtained from the ideal linear or sinusoidal approximations to the static torque-displacement ($T-{\theta}$) characteristic curve. In addition, the hardware implementation of stepper motor controller can be designed uses VHDL (Very high speed integrated circuits Hardware Description Language) and synthesis using an Altera FPGA, FLEX10K family, EPF10K20RC240-4 device as target technology and use MAX+PlusII program for overall development. A multi-stack variable-reluctance stepper motor of Sanyo Denki is used in the experiments.

  • Continuously variable transmission(CVT) mechanisms are proposed, which can offer a backward mode, a geared neutral, an underdrive mode and an overdriver mode. They are not required of a starting device as a torque converter. CVT mechanisms developed here present two distinct operating modes which are a power circulation mode and a power split mode. The transition of two modes takes place at the particular CVU speed ratio. For these CVT mechanisms, performance analysis related to speed ratio, power ratio and theoretical efficiency are executed.

  • Drive malfunction take many forms and every possible one must be protected against. Until recently a separate analog device was needed for each type of malfunction. In this approach to simplified, more reliable motor-circuit protection and control, a microprocessor's digital controller for motor control center simultaneously examine most of the possible sources of circuit trouble and has more efficent functions (sequence control,display) than the conventional motor control center. The result of standard surge tests provided a realistic evaluation of the surge withstand capability of equipment.

  • Using one chip microcontroller 87Cl96 (On chip EPROM type) and EPLD (Erasable & Programable Logic Device), an implantable control system to drive pendulum type electromechanical total artificial heart was developed. This control system consists of 4 parts, main management system, motor driver with power regulator, state monitoring system and communication part. The main system has the functions for speed detection, PI(proportional and integration) control, PWM generation, communication and analog data processor. Two kinds of power system were used and separated by 8 photo coupler arrays to improve the system stability. The performances of each compartments were compared with our previous z80 microprocessor based control system and good correspondences was shown. Logic power consumption was reduced to a one third of our previous controller. Using mock circulation tests, the overall performances of control system are evaluated.

  • 기존의 CNC Controller를 재구성하면 제어성과 절삭성의 재고에 큰 효과를 낼 수 있다. 현실적으로 시스템의 재구성은, 가) 시스템의 재구성으로 2축 CNC 기계를 다축으로 전환시킬 수 있고, 나) 모터의 직접제어에 의한 G-code 작성과정의 생략이 가능하며, 다) NC 동작의 제어가 소프트웨어로 (C 언어) 이루어 지기 때문에 사용자환경에 맞도록 고객화가 가능한 강점이 있다. 나아가서는 형상의 정의에서 NC 기계동작의 제어 및 온라인 모니터링에 이르는 전과정을 소프트웨어로 일식화 시킬 수 있는 통합 NC 시스템의 구현이 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 목적으로 연구되고 있는 INCS(Integrated NC System)의 개발현황을 소개한다. INCS는 PC-286, NC Controller, Drive Amplifier, Sensing Device의 하드웨어 시스템과 CAD, CAM 및 CNC 기능을 수행하는 소프트웨어 시스템으로 구성되어 있다. 그래픽 시뮬레이션 및 실제 절삭을 통하여 개발된 방식의 유효성과 효율성을 설명한다.

Design of the precision micro-positioning stage (초정밀 마이크로 위치결정 스테이지의 설계)

  • We present a micro-positioning stage that has minimized geometrical error and can drive in the 4-axis. This stage divided into two parts: $Z\theta_x$ $\theta_y$, motion stage and$\theta_z$ motion stage. These stages are constructed in flexure hinges, piezoelectric actuators and displacement scnsors. The dynamic model for each stage is obtained and their FE (finite element) models are made. Using the Lagrange's equation, the motion of equation is found. Through the parametric analysis and FE analysis, sensitiv~ty of the design parameters is executed. Finally, fundamental frequencies, maximum stress, and displacement sensitivity for each stage are obtained. We expect that this micro-positioning stage be a useful micro-alignment device for various applications.
