The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a healing garden program based on internal factors of vocational adaptation on career attitude for college students with developmental disabilities. First, healing garden program was defined by a group of experts related to education for developmental disabilities in the industry and academia through the focus group interview. Second, the healing garden program for college students with developmental disabilities was carried out for 15 weeks. Third, this study examined the effects of healing garden program based on internal factors of vocational adaptation on career attitude for college students with developmental disabilities. The participants of this study were 55 college students with developmental disabilities in N University, with 25 students placed in the experimental group and the other 30 in the control group. As a result of examination, the difference between before and after the program, it was found that factors of career attitude were improved significantly after the program in the experimental group, with Factor 1 (determination) increased from 2.08 to 3.39, Factor 2 (finality) from 2.28 to 3.19, Factor 3 (confidence) from 2.20 to 3.69, Factor 4 (preparation) from 2.12 to 3.79, and Factor 5 (independence) from 1.88 to 3.63. But the control group did not show a significant improvement after 15 weeks of the program except Factor 3 (confidence) and Factor 5 (independence). It was found that the healing garden program based on internal factors of vocational adaptation had effects on career attitude for college students with developmental disabilities. Finally, the program will contribute to vocational rehabilitation for college students with disabilities. The findings further suggest that healing gardening programs that facilitate career attitudes must be continuously developed and applied in order to establish effective transition from school to the world of vocational adaptation.

Patients with inflammatory bone disease or cancer exhibit an increased risk of fractures and delayed bone healing. The S100A4 protein is a member of the calcium-binding S100 protein family, which is abundantly expressed in inflammatory diseases and cancers. We investigated the effects of extracellular S100A4 on osteoblasts, which are cells responsible for bone formation. Treating primary calvarial osteoblasts with recombinant S100A4 resulted in matrix mineralization reductions. The expression of osteoblast marker genes including osteocalcin and osterix was also suppressed. Interestingly, S100A4 stimulated the nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-${\kappa}B$) signaling pathway in osteoblasts. More importantly, the ex vivo organ culture of mouse calvariae with recombinant S100A4 decreased the expression levels of osteocalcin, supporting the results of our in vitro experiments. This suggests that extracellular S100A4 is important for the regulation of bone formation by activating the NF-${\kappa}B$ signaling pathway in osteoblasts.

For physiological or pathological understanding of bone disease caused by abnormal behavior of osteoclasts (OCs), functional studies of molecules that regulate the generation and action of OCs are required. In a microarray approach, we found the suppression of tumorigenicity 5 (ST5) gene is upregulated by receptor activator of nuclear $factor-{\kappa}B$ ligand (RANKL), the OC differentiation factor. Although the roles of ST5 in cancer and ${\beta}-cells$ have been reported, the function of ST5 in bone cells has not yet been investigated. Knockdown of ST5 by siRNA reduced OC differentiation from primary precursors. Moreover, ST5 downregulation decreased expression of NFATc1, a key transcription factor for osteoclastogenesis. In contrast, overexpression of ST5 resulted in the opposite phenotype of ST5 knockdown. In immunocytochemistry experiments, the ST5 protein is colocalized with Src in RANKL-committed cells. In addition, ST5 enhanced activation of Src and Syk, a Src substrate, in response to RANKL. ST5 reduction caused a decrease in RANKL-evoked calcium oscillation and inhibited translocation of NFATc1 into the nucleus. Taken together, these findings provide the first evidence of ST5 involvement in positive regulation of osteoclastogenesis via Src/Syk/calcium signaling.

Osteoclast generation from monocyte/macrophage lineage precursor cells needs to be tightly regulated to maintain bone homeostasis and is frequently over-activated in inflammatory conditions. PARK2, a protein associated with Parkinson's disease, plays an important role in mitophagy via its ubiquitin ligase function. In this study, we investigated whether PARK2 is involved in osteoclastogenesis. PARK2 expression was found to be increased during the receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast differentiation. PARK2 gene silencing with siRNA significantly reduced osteoclastogenesis induced by RANKL, LPS (lipopolysaccharide), TNFα (tumor necrosis factor α), and IL-1β (interleukin-1β). On the other hand, overexpression of PARK2 promoted osteoclastogenesis. This regulation of osteoclastogenesis by PARK2 was mediated by IKK (inhibitory κB kinase) and NF-κB activation while MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinases) activation was not involved. Additionally, administration of PARK2 siRNA significantly reduced osteoclastogenesis and bone loss in an in vivo model of inflammatory bone erosion. Taken together, this study establishes a novel role for PARK2 as a positive regulator in osteoclast differentiation and inflammatory bone destruction.
Background and objective: This study was conducted to examine the effects of the theme-based garden book (photo book) making integration program on social skills and self-determination of college students with developmental disabilities. Methods: We analyzed the changes in social skills and self-determination of college students with developmental disabilities. The first step was defining the theme-based garden book (photo book) making integration program, which was done by focus group interviews (FGI) comprised of specialists in the industry and academia. The second step was carrying out 8 sessions of the program. The third step was examining the effects of the program on social skills and self-determination of college students with developmental disabilities. The participants of this study were 36 college students with developmental disabilities attending N University, and 17 students were in the experiment group and the other 19 in the control group. Results: The control group showed no statistically significant changes in the three sub-domains of social skills, while the experimental group showed statistically significant differences across all three sub-domains, such as cooperation(P < .05), assertion(P < .05), and self-control(P < .05). The experimental group, that participated in the program showed statistically significant differences across all four sub-domains of self-determination skills, such as behavior (P < .05), cognition(P < .05), school support(P < .05) and home support(P < .05). This proved that the theme-based garden book (photo book) making program contributed to bringing positive effects to self-determination and social skills. Conclusion: These results suggest that the theme-based garden book (photo book) making integration program could improve self-determination and social skills of college students with developmental disabilities. These positive changes are related to the high level of interest in theme-based garden design programs among college students with developmental disabilities, and thus these programs can be used effectively to improve social adjustment.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the mentoring function and mentor trust on the intention to reparticipate in the mentoring program, focusing on university students in fashion related departments. To achieve the purpose, research was conducted through a survey questionnaire. The questionnaire data from 223 university students in fashion related departments who experienced mentoring programs were analyzed. SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 7.0 statistical packages were used to investigate a structural model and test research hypotheses. The results derived from the analysis of the questionnaire survey were summarized as follows. First, the result showed that the mentoring function was composed of three factors: a sensitivity developmental function, psychosocial function, and fashion career developmental function. Second, the sensitivity developmental function, psychosocial function, and fashion career developmental function positively affected mentor trust. Third, the sensitivity developmental function positively affected the intention to reparticipate in the mentoring program, while the psychosocial function and fashion career developmental function did not influence the intention to reparticipate in the mentoring program. Fourth, mentor trust positively influenced the intention to reparticipate in the mentoring program. The results of the current study would be useful for the professor and university administrator who would like to establish a mentoring program in a fashion related department, by exploring the relation of mentoring function, mentor trust and the intention to reparticipate in the mentoring program.

Conclusion : The parent educational program with sensory integration suggest that its useful program to understanding their children and sensory integration for parent.
This is an underlying study for expanding child growth and developmental screening program, which had been implemented as a part of maternal child health service in a certain public health center located in P City. This study attempted to develop system model to discover, consult and follow-up developmental disabilities in children in early stage. For the purpose of providing groundwork for further development of screening program, the system model was analyzed and evaluated. One of the focuses of this study was developing practical tool that can aid small number staffs of public health center to handle large number of patients. 9 types of developmental checklist by key month was developed to support understaffed public health center. These checklists were also supplied to other public health centers, greatly improving qualitative and quantitative development of screening project. Also, the 4-step program of operating and managing child growth and developmental screening was proved to be quite effective. Total 632 children were evaluated and 21 of them were suspected to have developmental problem. Among these children, 8 children were determined to receive regular supervision of public health center. Other 13 children were recommended to visit professional institution, but only 7 of them actually visited institution. Four of these children who visited professional institution are currently receiving treatment, while the other 3 children were determined to require close observation. Five times of screening education were provided to the staffs in public health center and personnel in charge of children in every district public center in P City. The purpose of this training was to improve individuals' capability to implement project and to establish basis for expanding child growth and developmental screening program. The participants were guided to have continuous attention for the project, and their knowledge, skill and recognition were greatly improved through educational training. Also, professional child consulting and education, including lecture for baby food and baby food menu exhibition, were given to parents. Through this opportunity, parents acquired higher understanding about baby food while the local residents' recognition for maternal child health service was greatly improved.
