Co-opetition Strategy for the Balanced Development of Busan Port

  • Busan North port is facing crisis due to the opening of the New port. The North Port and NewPort are competing for a limited volume of cargoes and this competition is leading after all to price competition, lowering cargo work fee that may result in the failure of both This paper proposed the balanced development plans, which are the strategies of business tie-up and activation between the North Port and NewPort by introducing the strategy of "co-opetition" and the analysis for the success factor of co-opetition: to solve this operational problems on Busan port. It is found out that activation strategy is more successful co-opetition strategy than business tie-up strategy. The execution for the two co-opetition strategies will lead Busan Port to the balanced development as well as the enhanced competitiveness and will leap Busan port into global hub port as well.

  • Purpose - The purpose of the paper is to examine development strategy that Shanghai port has practiced, and to take out some productive implications to be applied to other port. Research design, data and methodology - The research methods to be applied is first to look into some development progress in terms of trade volumes, and then to review development strategy that is classified with two different aspects, and finally to identify implications. Results - Following the change of economic environment that China has joined to WTO, the way of doing business in Chinese economy has transferred to market economy more closely. Trade volume is higher than before and it attracts to build national infrastructure including port. Development strategy has to be needed to take care of newly faced economic situations, within two aspects, hardware and software approach. Both construction and management are answer to competitive port of Shanghai. Conclusions - From the development strategy of Shanghai port, hardware and software aspects should be emphasized, and it is evident that both trade volume of shipping market and the willingness of port authority have to be getting along with each other in development strategy.

  • 세계적으로 항만의 대형화, 첨단화, 효율화 등 항만환경의 변화가 급격하게 이루어지고 있으며, 선진항만들은 대륙별로 중심항만의 입지를 구축하기 위해 항만기술의 연구개발과 투자를 지속하고 있다. 항만의 대형화, 첨단화, 효율화에 대응하기 위해서는 지속적인 항만기술 개발이 필요하며, 이를 통해 자국 항만산업 발전과 더불어 세계 항만기술 관련 산업의 선점과 수출 극대화를 이룰 수 있을 것이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 국내외 항만기술 개발의 현황과 추진정책을 살펴보고 항만기술 분야의 정립을 통해 국내 항만기술개발의 발전전략과 정책방향을 제시하고자 한다.

  • Purpose - The purpose of paper is to review and look into the process of port development of each country, and compare with their system of port management. Research design, data and methodology - The methods to be taken is to examine a process of port development in terms of historic and regulated point of views, and each country's port is compared with various port models. Results - China has evolved of port governance into 3 stages, which has lead to almost liberalized port management system in process of privatization slogan. Japan has three stages of port development, and key commitments have been done by local government, rather than national one. Korea has also several stages of port reforms, and national government has been deeply involved in port industry, as well as regional government and port authority in certain areas. Conclusions - whatever port management system each countries has taken, it eventually aims to port productivity in country's port. To adopt most proper port management system may be answer for country to cope with environmental changes around port industry.

  • Recently changes in the technological environment of marine transportation and the increase of traffic volume have fostered a revolution in the design and operation of port and also playing a major role in the development of new types of port in Asian. These changes are dynamic and will continue to influence port physical distribution system. The port of Pusan has been hardly able to handle the traffic increases in recent years by expansion increased mechanization and other operational and institutional improvements but, further traffic increases bring about critical congestion and such congestion is an economic cost to the country in terms of cost of physical distribution. This paper treats the development of entirely new port of Pusan and related transportation system by considering the existing or expected need for improved port capacity and services. The western part of GADUK island is selected as the optimum port site through the detailed analysis of the physical requirement and careful consideration of regional development and since the lead time of the national development plan including the port project from initial planning to implementation is considered as long as 7 to 10 years the aggregated master plan for port development is made and implemented in the year of 2012.

  • Intact mammalian hair and wool fibres are multi-compartmental composite materials consisting of a sulphur-rich outer protective cuticle layer surrounding elongated, highly keratinized, cortex cells. The cortex cells themselves are made up of crystalline, filamentous, low-sulphur a-helical keratin molecules embedded in a matrix of highly cross-linked, globular high-sulphur keratins. It is the structurally organised and highly disulphide cross-linked nature of these materials that provides them with their remarkable mechanical properties. However these mechanical properties are sensitive to environmental conditions such as water content, temperature and chemical treatment and the importance of their ultra-structural arrangements to overall mechanical properties in different environments is still not fully understood.(omitted)

부산항의 개발단계별 수질환경변동특성에 관한 연구 (On the Characteristics of the Water Quality Changes due to the Development Phases of Pusan Port)

  • This study aims to examine the characteristics of the water quality variation in relation to the change of water exchange rate with respect to the development phases of the Pusan port. To clarify the characteristics, water exchange caused by the variations of coastline shape and water surface area was examined by the numerical experiments using the Lagrangian particle tracking model based on 2-D shallow water equation. As the results of numerical experiments, it was proved that the water exchange in the Pusan port was decreased mainly due to the port development and the breakwaters construction. During the port development phases from 1875 to 1998, 35% of the sea-space in the port had decreased to make hinterland spaces. This resulted in the loss of wet-land and coastline change as well as decrease of the water exchange rate at the sea side. The city population in that period had rapidly increased from several thousands to 4 millions, resulting in the large discharge of sewages into the port area. Under the these environmental conditions, it can be clearly said that the water quality in the Pusan port is sensitively affected by the discharge of urban sewages decrease of the water exchange rate in relation to port and urban developments. In the study, the temporal changes of water quality were discussed with respect to the port development phases. It was clear that the water quality wad controlled by the exchange rate change under the port development as well as the input impact into the port from the urbanized city area. To make clean sea of the Pusan port, it is suggested that the sewage control, the water exchange and coastline control should be systematically checked under the concept of eco-friendly development and environmental management.

  • 항만은 선박 입출항의 증가와 다양한 화물 물동량 창출은 지역경제에 활성화를 도모하고 지역발전과 기업의 유치와 지역주민의 유입으로 이어 질수 있는데, 당진시 항만지역은 화물의 제한성과 대부분의 사설부두로 되어 있어 지역 경제 발전과 지역주민의 기대에 부응하는 점이 점차 미약하게 되어 있음. 따라서, 지역발전과 지역경제 활성화를 도모하고 지역주민의 소외감 해소를 위해서 음섬포구 일원에 대한 개발을 통하여 항만에 친수성과 접근성이 용이 하도록 함이 필요하며 해운·항만물류 환경변화에 능동적인 변화가 필요함. 국내외 항만개발의 다양한 사례와 거제 고현항의 항만 재개발의 사례를 통하여 보듯이 당진항도 지역의 발전과 수도권 주민들에게 삶의 질을 증진하는 당진항만의 발전된 모습이 조속히 시현 할 수 있어야 하며, 정부 당국의 추진력이 매우 요청되는 시점임.

  • The world Economy has rearranged into three economic block. Especially, the nation's economy in Northeast area are an engine of world economic development. Among these nations in Northeast area china has done a main role of the development of world economy. Owing to raising of the China economy, the Export-Import of container load has rapidly increased in this area. So it is very important of the nation to manage a port. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to analysis a port of Masan and to search the way of development. To accomplish this purpose, I will analyze a logistics circumstance in northeast area and a port of Pusan and Jinhae. In conclusion, government and local government must enlarge the investment to develope the port of Masan. Local government should do its best effort to solve the problem of port of Masan. And all citizen should recognize that a development of the port of Masan will be the engine of the raising of Masan.
