The spatio-temporal distribution of the sand crab Ovalipes punctatus larvae was investigated in the Korean waters in 2019. Sea surface temperature (SST) was the lowest in February and highest in September. Sea surface salinity (SSS) was the lowest in September and highest in March. Further, sea surface chlorophyll a (SSC) was the highest in September. Larvae were distributed in the South Sea and coastal area of Jeju Island from April to June, and the abundance was the highest in May. The spatio-temporal distribution analysis suggested that larval groups showed a tendency to be dispersed over a wider area as the larvae developed, due to the increase in their swimming ability. The correlation analysis between environmental factors and larval density suggested that larvae appeared in the SST range 11.8-20.9℃ and SSS range 31.5-35.3 psu. The Megalopal stage appeared in a wider range of SST and SSS than other larval stages, possibly due to the increased environmental tolerance before settlement. Results of redundancy analysis (RDA) and Spearman's rank correlation analysis between the larval density by developmental stages and the environmental factors suggested that SST showed a positive correlation and SSC showed a negative correlation in the later stage.

In this study we aimed to enhance streamflow prediction skill of a land-surface hydrological model, WRF-Hydro, over one of the snow dominated catchments lies in Himalayan mountainous range, Astore. To assess the response of the Himalayan river flows to climate change is complex due to multiple contributors: precipitation, snow, and glacier melt. WRF-Hydro model with default glacier module lacks generating streamflow in summer period but recently developed WRF-Hydro-CROCUS model overcomes this issue by melting snow/ice from the glaciers. We showed that by implementing WRF-Hydro-CROCUS model over Astore the results were significantly improved in comparison to WRF-Hydro with default glacier module. To constraint the model with the observed streamflow we chose 17 sensitive parameters of WRF-Hydro, which include groundwater parameters, surface runoff parameters, channel parameters, soil parameters, vegetation parameters and snowmelt parameters. We used Dynamically Dimensioned Search (DDS) method to calibrate the daily streamflow with the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) being greater than 0.7 both in calibration (2009-2010) and validation (2011-2013) period. Based on the number of iterations per parameter, we found that the parameters related to channel and runoff process are most sensitive to streamflow. The attempts to address the responses of the streamflows to climate change are still very weak and vague especially northwest Himalayan Part of Pakistan and this study is one of a few successful applications of process-based land-surface hydrologic model over this mountainous region of UIB that can be utilized to have an in-depth understanding of hydrological responses of climate change.
The purpose of this paper was to review the problems relating to Korea's occupational health services and suggest ways to improve them. Korea can be classified as a welfare state type of conservative corporatism partially interwoven with liberalism. While experiencing compressed economic growth, the economic sectors of developed (excess areas) and developing (deficient areas) countries are interwoven. Therefore, it is necessary to perfect conservative corporatism along with a complementary reinforcement of liberal contents and to apply a multilayered approach focusing on complementing the deficient areas. It is essential to form a national representative indicator related to occupational health, and a strategy for selection and concentration is needed. The proposed central indicator is the occupational health coverage rate (OHCR), which is the number of workers who have applied for mandatory occupational health services under the Occupational Safety and Health Act in the numerator with the total working population in the denominator. This paper proposes ways to raise the OHCR, which is currently at the level of 25%-40%, to 70%-80%, which is the level of Japan, Germany, and France. To achieve this target, it is necessary to focus on small businesses and vulnerable workers. This is an area of market failure and requires the active input of community-oriented public resources. For access to larger workplaces, the marketability of services should be strengthened and personal intervention using digital health resources should be actively attempted. Taking a national perspective, work environment improvement committees with tripartite (labor, management, and government) participation for improvement of the working environment need to be established at the center and in the regions. Through this, prevention funds linked to industrial accident compensation and prevention could be used efficiently. A national chemical substance management system must be established to monitor the health of workers and the general public.
Simrad EM950 multibeam data and surficial sediment grab samples were acquired to correlate backscatter strength with surficial sediment properties in the eastern Yellow Sea which tidal sand ridges are dominantly developed. The study area is divided into the western sand ridge zone characterized by well sorted, fine sandy sediment, and the eastern non-sand ridge zone characterized by poorly sorted, medium sand with some gravels and shell fragments. In spite of minor difference in grain size between two zones, the variations of backscatter strength between two zones are distinct. Multibeam backscatter strength of study area shows good correlation with the grain size of surface sediment as well as the carbonate contents. High occurrence of carbonate shell fragments can increase grain size and bottom roughness. The dominance of higher backscatter strength in the eastern non-sand ridge zone may reflect the effects of coarse grain size and high shell fragments contents.
Sand layer distribution, which is the main target of river and land aggregate resources, mainly belongs to alluvial and river sedimentary environments among the Quaternary sedimentary environments. The distribution of aggregate resources in the area of Geumsan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do is characteristically developed around a sedimentation environment in which intrusive meandering river dominate. Although the area around Bonhwangcheon Stream and the area near the confluence of small streams are small, the river floodplain develops and corresponds to the aggregate distribution area. The sedimentary layer formed in the sedimentary environment such as colluvial deposits or alluvial fan deposits has a relatively low distribution rate of aggregate resources. The vertical distribution of the Quaternary sedimentary layers in the Geumsan-gun region ranges from about 5 to 12 m and has an average Quaternary sedimentary thickness of 8 m. The aggregate-bearing section has an average thickness of 3.6 m, and the average grain size is about 21% clay-silt, 67% sand, and 12% gravel. The main characteristics of the aggregate-bearing section are that coarse-grained sand predominates, and gravel is sub-angular or sub-rounded, and the sorting is generally poor and has a massive form of deposits, and the soil colour ranges from dark grey to yellowish-brown. In Geumsan-gun, the most likely distribution area for aggregate development is the alluvial sedimentary and river sedimentary layers distributed along the current and former riverbeds of the main Geumgang River, Bonhwangcheon and small River tributaries.

Non-point source pollution associated with suspended solids in stormwater has been known to often adversely affect surface water ecosystems. Various methods of treating stormwater in the basin area before the stormwater reaches the receiving body of water have been developed. However, these treatment methods tend to be costly to install and also to maintain. In this study, an economical way of removing TSS (total suspended solids) from stormwater runoff with a fabric filter system was developed. Polyester was chosen as a fabric-filter material, because it was found to be economical in cost and relatively resistant to various chemicals. An experimental device was developed and used to determine filtration rates through polyester fabric samples of a series of several pore-opening sizes ($20{\mu}m$ to $94{\mu}m$) under a series of water-heads (0.25 to 1 m). It was found that the filtration rate increased as the size of water head increased. It was also found that the smaller the pore size of the fiber filter was, the higher the TSS removal efficiency was. However, the TSS removal efficiency was not found to be much different among the filters with different sizes of pore opening due to the fact that most mass of TSS was associated with large particles.

The analysis for unsteady flow is necessary to design the hydraulic structures affected by water level and discharge changes through time. The numerical model has been generally used for unsteady flow analysis, however it is difficult to acquire field data to calibrate and validate the numerical model. Even though it is possible to collect field data for some case, high cost and labor are required and sometimes it is considered that the confidence of measured data is very low. In this case, the experimental data for unsteady flow can be used to calibrate and validate the numerical model as an alternative. Therefore, the discharge-supply system which could generate various type of unsteady flow hydrograph was developed in this study. Also, the accuracy of the unsteady flow hydrograph generated by developed dischargesupply system in the experiment was evaluated by comparing with target hydrograph. Accuracy errors and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) were analyzed for the rectangular-type hydrograph with sudden changes of flow, triangular-type hydrograph with short peak time, and bell-type flood hydrograph. As a result, the generating error of the discharge-supply system for the rectangular-type hydrograph was about 59% which was maximum error among various types. Also, it was represented that RMSE for the triangular-type hydrographs with single and double peaks were approximately corresponding to 10%. However, RMSE for the bell-type flood hydrograph was lower than 2%.

Copper is an essential transition metal involving in various biogeochemical processes. With the recent advances in analytical techniques and mass spectrometry, such as MC-ICP-MS, it is possible to measure Cu isotopes, which allows us to understand various biogeochemical processes in detail. Nonetheless, few studies have been performed in South Korea. In this study, we compared two purification methods previously reported using an anion exchange resin ($AG^{(R)}$ MP-1M), developed the best method in our lab environment, and then verified it by measuring Cu isotopic compositions in two USGS geological reference materials (BHVO-2 and BIR-1a). Although all matrix cations causing mass bias were effectively removed through both two methods with the yield of better than 95%, the method using the mixture of HCl and $H_2O_2$ only displays Cu isotopic compositions, in excellent agreement with reported values within the error. The method developed in this study is expected to be commonly applied to earth and environmental sciences.

There are demands for water environmental analysis of discharge processes in paddy fields, however, it is not fully understood in nutrients discharge process for watershed modeling. As hydrological processes both surface and ground water and agricultural water managements are so complex in paddy fields, the development of lowland paddy fields watershed model is more difficult than upland watershed model. In this research, the improvement of SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model for a paddy watershed was conducted. First, modification of surface inundated process was developed in improved pot hole option. Those modification was evaluated by monitoring data. Second, the monitoring data in river and drainage channel in lowland paddy fields from 2012 to 2014 were analyzed to understand discharge characteristics. As a case study, Imbanuma basin, Japan, was chosen as typical land and water use in Asian countries. In this basin, lowland paddy fields are irrigated from river water using small pumps that were located in distribution within the watershed. Daily hydrological fluctuation was too complex to estimate. Then, to understand surface and ground water discharge characteristics in irrigation (Apr-Aug) and non-irrigation (Sep-Mar) period, the water and material balance analysis was conducted. The analysis was composed two parts, watershed and river channel blocks. As results of model simulation, output was satisfactory in NSE, but uncertainty was large. It would be coming from discharge process in return water. The river water and ground water in paddy fields were exchanged each other in 5.7% and 10.8% to river discharge in irrigation and non-irrigation periods, respectively. Through this exchange, nutrient loads were exchanged between river and paddy fields components. It suggested that discharge from paddy fields was not only responded to rainfall but dynamically related with river water table. In general, hydrological models is assumed that a discharge process is one way from watershed to river. However, in lowland paddy fields, discharge process is dynamically changed. This function of paddy fields showed that flood was mitigated and temporally held as storage in ground water. Then, it showed that water quality was changed in mitigated function in the water exchange process in lowland paddy fields. In future, it was expected that hydrological models for lowland paddy fields would be developed with this mitigation function.
The aim of this study was to apply the new agricultural technique developed for three years($'96{\sim}'98$) by demonstration at an model farm of environmental agriculture located in Bangsan-ri, Dagang-myun, Namwon-city. Rice growth of environmental farming plot, which supplied with oil cake and compost fermented with chicken manure was reduced compared to that of conventional farming plot, which supplied with chemical fertilizers. Weed control by using of Ampullarius insularus in the rice paddy field was effective compared to that of control, which treated with chemical herbicide twice. The yield of rice was decreased of 35% in both environmental and eclectic farming polt compared to that of conventional farming plot. The water quality of environmental not and eclectic farming plot were good compared to conventional farming plot. Density of water flea was high in environmental and eclectic farming plot compared to that of the conventional farming plot.
