환경요인에 의한 잣나무의 지위지수 추정식 개발과 적지 판정 (Development of a Site Index Equation for Pinus koraiensis Based on Environmental Factors and Estimation of Productive Areas for Reforestation)

  • Site index is an essential tool to estimate forest productivity. Generally, a site index equation is developed and used from the relationship between stand age and dominant tree heights. However, there is a limit to the use of the site index equation in the application of variable ages, environmental influence, and estimation of site index for the unstocked forest. Therefore, it has been attempted to develop a new site index equation based on various environmental factors including site, climate, and topographical variables. This study was conducted to develop a site index equation based on the relationship between site index and environmental factors for the species of Pinus koraiensis in Yangpyung-Gun, Gyunggi Province. The influence of climatic factors (temperature and solar irradiation ratio), topographical factors (elevation, slope, ratio of slope to valley and aspect) and soil profiles (soil depth by layer and soil consistency) on site index were evaluated by multiple regression analysis. Five environmental factors were selected in the final site index equation for Pinus koraiensis. The site index equation developed in this study was also verified by three evaluation statistics: model's estimation bias, model's precision, and mean square error of measurement. Based on the site index equation, the number of productive areas for Pinus koraiensis were estimated by applying GIS technique to digitized forest maps. In addition, the distribution of productive areas was compared with the areas of current distribution of Pinus koraiensis. It is expected that the results obtained in this study could provide valuable information about the amount and distribution of productive areas for Pinus koraiensis reforestation.

  • 바이오가스화는 유기성폐기물을 처리하는 과정에서 발생되는 메탄가스를 포함하는 환경 친화적인 연료를 생산하는 기술이다. 바이오가스화는 유기성폐기물의 해양투기 금지 이후 안정적인 육상처리일 뿐만 아니라 신재생에너지원으로 인정받으면서 세계적인 관심을 받고 있다. 최근에는 생산된 바이오가스를 고품질화하여 도시가스 및 수송용으로 이용하는 추세가 증가하고 있다. 바이오가스화 현장시설에서는 아직도 잦은 고장으로 바이오가스 생산이 저하되고, 또한 생산된 바이오가스를 효과적으로 정제하여 이용하는 것이 미흡한 실정이다. 이 연구에서는 바이오가스 생산 및 이용 시설에서의 문제점들을 파악하고, 최적으로 바이오가스를 도시가스 및 수송용으로 활용 가능하기 위한 가이드라인 및 기술지침을 마련하고자 하였다.

환경관리인의 교육.훈련 현황 및 개선 방안 연구 (Regimes for the Improvement on Education and Training for Environmental Mangers on site)

  • The environmental quality in Korea was significantly deteriorated though the past economic development period. Even though the government has spent huge sum of resources on the policies and projects to improve the environmental quality, it is much removed from what the people hope for. To solve the environmental problems effectively, pollutants generated at source should be kept as minimum as possible, and possible, and pollutants from source be controlled before leaving the sources, and most of all, environmental strategies and systems be established and enforced properly. So, it is not too much to say that nation's environmental quality is entirely dependent on the education and training of the environmental managers such as environmental employees for air, water, and noise discharge facilities, technicians at environmental plants, and environmental officers of central and local governments. Regimes for the improvement of the education and training for environmental managers are suggested into four categories-educational institute, circular of the study, training contents and trainees. Referring to the improvement of integrated institute, and to improvement on educational institute, it is necessary to investigate the feasibility of integrated institute, and to recommend the inclusion of the local colleges and universities, and environmental societies. For the improvement on training courses, it is necessary that the non-obligatory course be expanded, and the courses be developed in such a way to meet the needs from the field. As for the improvement on training contents. It is suggested that the practical training on size be strengthened, and also full time environmental specialist and integrated committee be required to develop the effective circular and selection of proper lectures. Finally, environmental education for high ranked officers of autonomies, and international courses for developing countries are suggested.

  • 국내 및 해외에서 진행되고 있는 간척사업은 대규모 매립재가 필요하나 육상에서 얻을 수 있는 매립재는 한정되어 있어 해상준설토를 활용하기 위한 지반 정보화 관련 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 이러한 연구의 일환으로 준설지역 지반조사 자료의 디지털 공간 정보화를 통해 신뢰도가 고려된 3차원 준설 물량의 자동 산출이 가능한 GIS 기반의 준설 매립지반 DB 구축 및 3차원 준설 매립 정보화 프로그램을 개발하였다. 현장에서 준설된 물량과의 비교 검증에 앞서 본 연구에서는 수집된 새만금 지역의 군장항 인근 지반조사 자료를 바탕으로 개발된 프로그램과 3차원 준설 매립 정보화 상용 프로그램으로 지반정보의 3차원 가시화를 수행하였다. 이를 토대로 가시화 수준, 각 지층의 단면 및 심도, 정량적 준설 물량 산출 결과를 비교하여 개발 프로그램에 대한 적정성을 평가하였으며, 평가결과 각각 산출된 준설 물량은 일치하는 것으로 나타났다.

울산단층대 중동부에 발달하는 제4기 개곡 6단층에 대한 보고 (A Report for the Quaternary Gaegok 6 Fault Developed in the Mid-eastern Part of Ulsan Fault Zone, Korea)

  • 울산단층대 중동부의 동변인 경상북도 경주시 외동읍 개곡리 남부에서 제3기초의 화강암이 제4기의 미고결 모래층이나 자갈층과 단층을 경계로 접하고 있다. 새로이 알려진 이 단층(개곡 6단층)은 $N02^{\circ}{\sim}22^{\circ}E$의 주향에 $45^{\circ}{\sim}80^{\circ}W$의 경사를 보인다. 이 단층은 풍화된 화강암의 단층각력과 함께 제4기 퇴적물로 뒤섞인 30~50 cm 폭의 쇄성전단대와 단층비지대로 구성되어 있다. 주된 단층조선의 자세는 $17^{\circ}$, $356^{\circ}$이며, 정단층성 운동성분을 가지는 우수향의 주향이동을 보인다. 이와 함께 주단층면을 자르며 서쪽 블록이 상승한 역단층운동을 지시하는 단층조선($78^{\circ}$, $278^{\circ}$$43^{\circ}$, $270^{\circ}$)도 관찰된다. 개곡 6단층은 이미 확인된 이 지역의 제4기 단층들과는 달리 서측 제3기초의 화강암이 동측의 제4기 역층을 올라탄, 외견상 서측이 상승한 형태를 보인다. 단층의 조선과 전단증거에 의하면 2회 이상의 단층운동과 관련한 압축운동기가 존재했음을 지시하고 있다. 개곡 6단층은 방향성, 서측으로 경사하는 기하학적인 양상, 그리고 서측이 상승한 운동학적인 양상 등이 북쪽에서 확인된 개곡 1단층과 유사하다. 그러므로 개곡 6단층은 개곡 1단층의 남쪽 연장으로 판단된다.

The grievous situation from such a rapid movement is meteorological comprehension and assessment as well as the problem of estimation exactness about the wind.   • In order to ensure a balance between economic development and a healthy Mekong Basin environment supporting natural resources diversity and productivity critical to the livelihood of its 65 million inhabitants, the Mekong River Commission (MRC) has been investigating the use of radar to remotely characterize and monitor the diversity, complexity, size and connectivity of the Basin's aquatic habitats. The PACRIM AIRSAR Mission provided an opportunity to evaluate the usefulness of radar technology to derive information for assessing, forecasting and mitigating possible cumulative and long-term impacts of development on the natural environment and the people's livelihood. This paper presents the results of mapping wetland cover types using multi-polarimetric radar for an area of the north-western corner of the Tonle Sap basin with data acquired from the AIRSAR Mission in September 2000. The implementation of a newly developed segmentation classification routine used to derive the image classification is described and the results of a fieldwork campaign to check the classification is presented.

  • For the planning of future land use for economic activities, an essential component is the identification of the vulnerable areas for natural hazard and environmental impacts from the activities. Also, exploration for mineral and energy resources is carried out by a step by step approach. At each step, a selection of the target area for the next exploration strategy is made based on all the data harnessed from the previous steps. The uncertainty of the selected target area containing undiscovered resources is a critical factor for estimating the exploration risk. We have developed not only spatial prediction models based on adapted artificial intelligence techniques to predict target and vulnerable areas but also validation techniques to estimate the uncertainties associated with the predictions. The prediction models will assist the scientists and decision-makers to make two critical decisions: (i) of the selections of the target or vulnerable areas, and (ii) of estimating the risks associated with the selections.

  • 인공배수유역의 강우유출모의를 위한 물리적 수문모형이 DEM으로 표현된 지형정보에 근거한 TOPMODEL로부터 개발되었다. 인공배수유역에서일어날 수 있는 아홉 가지 유출 발생 시나리오가 제안되었고, 또 이것을 모형의 개발을 위해 사용했다. 모형은 배수관을 통한 유출, 지하수 유출, 지표수 유출 등으로 유출과정을 나누어서 수문거동을 추적할 수 있도록 구성되어 있다. 제안된 모형은 유역의 물리적 특성을 잘 기술하고 있고 수문학적 거동에 보다 향상된 추출능력을 제공해줄 수 있을 것이라고 사료된다.

Temporal Variation of the Western Pacific Subtropical High Westward Ridge and its Implicationson South Korean Precipitation in Late Summer

  • This study investigates variations in the Western Pacific Subtropical High (WPSH) and its impact on South Korean precipitation in late summer during the period between 1958 and 2017. Composite analysis reveals that precipitation occurrence is directly linked to the displacement of the WPSH western ridge, a single, large-scale feature of the atmosphere in the Pacific Ocean. When WPSH ridging is located northwest (NW) of its climatological mean position, excessive precipitation is expected in late summer due to enhanced moisture transport. On the other hand, a precipitation deficit is frequently observed when the western ridge is located in the southeast (SE). Different phases of the WPSH are associated with lagged patterns of Pacific and Atlantic atmospheric and oceanic variability, introducing the potential to predict variability in the WPSH western ridge and its climate over northern East Asia by one month. Based on the identified SST patterns, a simple statistical model is developed and improvement in the ability to predict is confirmed through a cross-validation framework. Finally, the potential for further improvements in WPSH-based predictions is addressed.
