In determining vertical grades in highway alignment design, engineers usually consider heavy vehicle performances on the upgrade. Heavy vehicles usually experience speed reduction on the upgrade and with recent years weight/horsepower improvements for heavy vehicles the speed reduction shows some change. However, in spite of the weight to horsepower improvements for the design vehicles from 300lb/HP to 200lb/HP in the AASHTO, there was no change in the maximum vertical grades. Therefore, a review of the maximum vertical grade reflecting existing heavy vehicle performances is required. In particular, in South Korea where highways pass through lots of mountaineous terrain, the maximum vertical grades must be reviewed throughly. In this study the amount of heavy vehicle performances during past decades were investigated and their expected impacts on highway vertical alignment designs were subsequently analyzed. A worldwide terrain analysis and international design standards were compared to set South Korean vertical grade standards. Traffic flow simulation Vissim was utilized to simulate vehicular flows on the upgrade and new truck performance curves on the grades were developed. Based on the new curve, it was decided that $1{\sim}2%$ increase of the maximum vertical grades could be allowed.
This study was carried out to evaluate meal management behavior of housewives and to improve their behavior by determining what problems exist. The survey was conducted using a questionnaire in Jinju from October to November in 1999. It was shown that 29.1% of housewives didn't plan food budget, whereas only 5.6% of them did. The reasons for not planning food budget were mostly due to not forming a habit(38.8%), irregularity of prices(19.9%) or irregularity of income(13.8%). The characters of planning food budget and the reasons for not planning were not affected by age, education, monthly income, family size or monthly flood cost. Only 17.8% of meal managers recorded their housekeeping in detail and 47.4% of them wrote only the important things. Recording housekeeping records was affected by age and education. It was found that most meal managers(90.8%) didn't set menu planning and they didn't fuel the need for menu planning. The frequency of food shopping was every two days(36.2%), twice a week(20.9%) or randomly(27.4%), and the places for food shopping were supermarket(49.0%) and traditional market(41.3%). Both were affected by education or age. The quality of food was the main reason(54.6%) far the selection of food shopping place. Important consideration for selection of food and meals was preference of family(47.4%) and this character was affected by education. It was shown that the score of nutrition knowledge was 7.36, and it was affected by education. The results of this study suggest that the government, educators and scientists in nutrition make efforts to develop various levels of practical education programs for meal management and nutrition depending on age, education and community using mass media.

Although several research efforts have been directed to fast-tracking to reduce the total delivery time, few researches have been studied on concurrent engineering in construction projects. The focus of fast-tracking is primarily on overlapping independent activity pairs. In comparison, the focus of concurrent engineering is on overlapping dependent activity pairs. Dependent activities are much harder to overlap successfully. This paper presents a simulation-based Concurrent Engineering methodology to optimize the overall duration of a set of design activities in a project by modelling key factors that determine the duration of individual activities and overlap between dependent activities. This methodology involves determining how much to overlap activities, how to decide which activities to overlap and the corresponding cost and time tradeoffs using a discrete event model solution. This simulation model, therefore, can be used as a reference on decision-making to define optimum point between time and cost.

The aim of this study is to utilize system trading for making investment decisions and use technical analysis and Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) to determine similar patterns in the frequency of stock data and ascertain the optimal timing for trade. The study will examine some of the most common patterns in the futures market and use DTW in terms of their frequency (10, 30, 60 minutes, and daily) to discover similar patterns. The recognized similar patterns were verified by executing trade simulation after applying specific strategies to the technical indicators. The most profitable strategies among the set of strategies applied to common patterns were again applied to the similar patterns and the results from DTW pattern recognition were examined. The outcome produced useful information on determining the optimal timing for trade by using DTW pattern recognition through system trading, and by applying distinct strategies depending on data frequency.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the productive efficiency of world container ports by using the DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) method and raw data from previous research in measuring the international competitiveness of world container ports. Ports have to cope with rapid changes in shipping environments. In order for a port to compete in the global market, it must provide port services promptly and accurately. Basically, there are two approaches to measuring the international competitiveness of a container port. First, there is the traditional productivity analysis method, which analyzes productivity based on the container port's facilities (efficiency, selectivity, land availability), and by its general capacity (handling ability, storage capacity, terminal productivity). Second there is multi-attribute utility analysis, which considers several elements including the reasons for selecting particular container ports and factors determining international competitiveness. This paper follows the first method (traditional productivity analysis) and extends the limitation of previous studies by using the DEA method newly, and suggesting: the relative productive efficiency of container ports. The main results of this paper are as follows: First, the results of the DEA analysis in terms of world container ports matches that of a previous study (Jun et al., 1993) at a level of 35%. The low ratio is due to the constrained set of input-output elements, the result of only twenty container ports being analyzed in this paper. Second, the result of the DEA analysis in terms of North-East Asia's container ports matches with that of a previous study (Ha, 1996) at a level of 100 percent. Therefore we can conclude that the DEA analysis is the best measurement method for international competitiveness. Policy implications for this study are as follows: First, when port authorities want to measure the international competition power of container ports and enhance their productive efficiency, they should consider the traditional method and newly introduce the DEA method. Second, according to the analysis results of the DEA method, pen authorities should recommend benchmarking ports as reference ports in order to enhance the productive efficiency of container ports that show an efficiency score of below 1.

Modeling and simulation of mechanical response of infrastructure object, solids and structures, relies on the use of computational models to foretell the state of a physical system under conditions for which such computational model has not been validated. Verification and Validation (V&V) procedures are the primary means of assessing accuracy, building confidence and credibility in modeling and computational simulations of behavior of those infrastructure objects. Validation is the process of determining a degree to which a model is an accurate representation of the real world from the perspective of the intended uses of the model. It is mainly a physics issue and provides evidence that the correct model is solved (Oberkampf et al. 2002). Our primary interest is in modeling and simulating behavior of porous particulate media that is fully saturated with pore fluid, including cyclic mobility and liquefaction. Fully saturated soils undergoing dynamic shaking fall in this category. Verification modeling and simulation of fully saturated porous soils is addressed in more detail by (Tasiopoulou et al. 2014), and in this paper we address validation. A set of centrifuge experiments is used for this purpose. Discussion is provided assessing the effects of scaling laws on centrifuge experiments and their influence on the validation. Available validation test are reviewed in view of first and second order phenomena and their importance to validation. For example, dynamics behavior of the system, following the dynamic time, and dissipation of the pore fluid pressures, following diffusion time, are not happening in the same time scale and those discrepancies are discussed. Laboratory tests, performed on soil that is used in centrifuge experiments, were used to calibrate material models that are then used in a validation process. Number of physical and numerical examples are used for validation and to illustrate presented discussion. In particular, it is shown that for the most part, numerical prediction of behavior, using laboratory test data to calibrate soil material model, prior to centrifuge experiments, can be validated using scaled tests. There are, of course, discrepancies, sources of which are analyzed and discussed.
The purpose of this study was to make a pants pattern suitable for women 70 to 85 years of age, then analyze that- pattern's shape, size, appearance, fit, allowance and air gap. Participants made the pattern using 3D simulation program DC Suite version 5.1. The results suggest a design method suitable for the lower-body shapes of elderly women. In external appearance, the A-type earned the highest evaluation in all items except the allowance of the back waist and back hip. The L type earned the highest evaluation in the allowance of back waist and hips. The A-type's, back waist appeared set at an angle that did not match the body shape of an old-old aged woman in the center-back-line setting. Therefore, the pattern method of A-type combined with L-type's method of center back, produces an excellent pants pattern. Evaluation of the air gaps among patterns revealed that; the A-type showed the largest air gap in waist and hip circumference and the smallest air gap in thigh circumference. The waists, abdomen, and hip circumferences of older women often become larger while their legs become slimmer. This study accounted for those factors in determining a pattern suitable for the lower-body shape of old-old aged women. However, participants only analyzed four patterns and compared them with women 70 to 85, years of age. Therefore, it is necessary to develop industrial patterns applicable to a wide age group.

Theoretical studies on the un-catalyzed and catalyzed aminations of ketene with $NH_3$ and $(NH_3)_2$, respectively, were studied using MP2 and hybrid density functional theory of B3LYP at the 6-31+G(d,p) and 6- 311+G(3df,2p) basis sets in the gas phase and in benzene and acetonitrile solvents. In the gas phase reaction, the un-catalyzed mechanism was the same as those previously reported by others. The catalyzed mechanism, however, was more complicated than expected requiring three transition states for the complete description of the C=O addition pathways. In the un-catalyzed amination, rate determining step was the breakdown of enol amide but in the catalyzed reaction, it was changed to the formation of enol amide, which was contradictory to the previous findings. Starting from the gas-phase structures, all structures were re-optimized using the CPCM method in solvent medium. In a high dielectric medium, acetonitrile, a zwitterions formed from the reaction of $CH_2$=C=O with $(NH_3)_2$, I(d), exists as a genuine minimum but other zwitterions, I(m) in acetonitrile and I(d) in benzene become unstable when ZPE corrected energies are used. Structural and energetic changes induced by solvation were considered in detail. Lowering of the activation energy by introducing additional $NH_3$ molecule amounted to ca. −20 $\sim$ −25 kcal/mol, which made catalyzed reaction more facile than un-catalyzed one.
The respective delivering vehicle loaded with the own cargo moves into the respective delivery area. At the base, the delivery points D1 and D2, for example, have the same starting point but the destination is different. The average delivering time of the delivery vehicle is mostly more than 8 hours a day. Therefore, the efficiency of delivery is generally low. In this study, the deliveries will be forwarded from a base station to a delivery point where cross docking will be applied to a single vehicle, and will be distributed from the cross docking point through cross docking. If the distribution is implemented, one vehicle will not have to be operated from the base to the cross docking point. In that case, logistics cost will be reasonably saved by the reduction of transportation cost and labor time. If one vehicle only runs from the base to the cross docking point, each vehicle will be operated in two shifts, and the vehicle operation can be efficiently implemented. This research model is based on the assumption that the 3 types of ratios between the traffic volume of the vehicles starting at the base and the vehicles waiting at the cross docking point are set to the first ratio of 30% to 70%, the second ratio of 50% to 50% and the final ratio of 70% to 30%. As a result of the study, The delivery time in the cross docking point is much higher than that in present on the condition that the cargo volume in the D2 area is more than 50%. Likewise, the delivery time is slightly higher on the condition that the cargo volume is less than 50%. Time is reduced in terms of 50% model like AS-IS model.
This study was conducted to investigate the condition of frying oil used for frying chicken nuggets in a deep fryer. The acidification of the frying oils used, soybean oil (SB), canola oil (CA), palm oil (PA), and lard (LA), were determined as peroxide value, acid value, and fatty acid composition, after chicken nuggets were fried in them for 101 times. The acid value and peroxide value obtained were 5.14 mg KOH/g and 66.03 meq/kg in SB, 4.47 mg KOH/g and 71.04 meq/kg in CA, 2.66 mg KOH/g and 15.48 meq/kg in PA, and 5.37 mg KOH/g and 62.92 meq/kg in LA, respectively. The ranges of the major fatty acid contents were palmitic acid, 8.91-45.84%; oleic acid, 34.74-58.68%; linoleic acid, 10.32-18.65%; and stearic acid, 2.28-10.86%.Used frying oils for food except animal products have a legal limit for the freshness standard, set by the Food Codex regulations (AV<2.5, POV<50). Therefore, this study could help develop a freshness standard for frying oils used for animal products such as chicken nuggets. Based on the quality limits associated with food regulations stated, we suggested that the estimated frying times before acceptable freshness was exceeded were 41 for SB, 38 for LA, 53 for CA, and 109 for PA. This data may be useful in determining food quality regulations for frying oil used for animal products.
