Precise analysis on deterioration processes of road pavements is not so simple matter due to severe uncertainty originated from a lot of explanatory variables engaged in. For those reasons, most analytical models for pavement deterioration prediction have often preferred to probabilistic approaches than deterministic models. However, the general probabilistic approaches that treat overall characteristics of population or entire sample would not be suitable for providing detail or localized information on their changing process. Considering the aspects, this paper aimed to suggest a stochastic disaggregation method to analyze the localized deterioration speeds and its variances changed by time and condition states. In addition, life expectancies and their uncertainty were estimated by probabilistic algorithm using the disaggregated stochastic process. For an empirical study, pavement inspection data (crack) accumulated from 2003 to 2010 from Korean national highway network was applied. This study can contribute to securing reliability of life cycle cost analysis, which is one of the primary analyses in road asset management, with much advanced deterioration forecasting functions. In addition, it would be meaningful trials as fundamental research for preventive maintenance strategy that demands essential understanding on changing process of the deterioration speed of pavement.

The social trouble to the durability of concrete rises recently because the embedded rebar corrosion influences concrete structures to deteriorate structural capacity. And also, the rebar corrosion causes crack of concrete, decrease of steel section and separation of covering concrete. In the result, the bond strength of concrete and embedded rebar decreases, which causes deterioration of the structure behavior in reinforced concrete. In this study, the relation of bond strength and bond-slip was understood to evaluate capacity deterioration of reinforced concrete, and experiments were carried out by compressive strength and embedded rebar condition in the rebar corrosion rate.
Among many amplitude parameters, Kurtosis (4-th normalized moment of probability density function) is recognized to be the sensitive good parameter for machine diagnosis. Kurtosis has a value of 3.0 under normal condition and the value generally goes up as the deterioration proceeds. In this paper, simplified calculation method of kurtosis is introduced for the analysis of impact vibration with one sided affiliated impact vibration which occurs towards the progress of time. That phenomenon is often watched in the failure of such as bearings’ outer race. One sided affiliated impact vibration is approximated by one sided triangle towards the progress of time and simplified calculation method is introduced. Varying the shape of one sided triangle, various models are examined and it is proved that new index is a sensitive good index for machine failure diagnosis. Utilizing this method, the behavior of kurtosis is forecasted and analyzed while watching machine condition and correct diagnosis is executed.

Recently, the research on durability of concrete proceed rapidly in the building industry. Deterioration due to do-icing salts occurs in practice in bridge structure, dike, barrier and similar structure. This paper reports the results of effect of chlorides on the freeze-thaw properties of concrete bridge deck in winter. The case fresh water condition where the concrete will receives a freez-thaw effect compared to decrease of durability quotient a lot occurs is a possibility of knowing from brine condition.

We designed and fabricated the engine oil monitoring sensor to measure engine oil deterioration through increased vehicle mileage. Since the condition of the engine oil can be affected by the state of the vehicle and its operating conditions, it should be directly measured and determined in every vehicle. The fabricated sensor has an aluminum parallel capacitor structure that measures capacitance related with the dielectric constant, which is one of the indices of oil deterioration. The size of the capacitor is small enough that it could be easily adapted on the oil level gauge without introducing any change in the design. The fabricated device is installed in the diesel engine to measure the change in capacitance accurately as the vehicle moved from 0 km (new engine oil state) to 11,364 km. The results showed the maximum value at around 5,000 km, and the values plateaued as mileage increased, corresponding with the measurement result of the TAN (Total Acid Number). Based on the results, the condition of the oil must be monitored regularly though oil change is recommended once the vehicle has traveled the distance of around 10,000 km.
The most common deterioration cause of concrete structures in urban environment is carbonation. Recently, the $CO_2$ concentration and temperature at atmosphere is sharply increased with time due to global warming phenomena. In this study, the climate scenario IS92a, which was suggested by the IPCC, is used to consider temperature and atmospheric $CO_2$ concentration change in the model of service life prediction. The modified mathematical solution, which was based on the Fick's 1st law of diffusion, was used to reflect concrete materials properties such as the degree of hydration of concrete with elapsed time, and important parameters, which associated with deterioration rate. The techniques of service life prediction are developed introducing the method of reliability and stochastic concept to consider microclimatic condition in Seoul, South Korea. From the result of service life prediction, concrete containing high W/C ratio is shown fast carbonation rate due to $CO_2$ concentration increase. It is concluded that the deterioration of concrete structures due to carbonation is insignificant problem on the conditions that below W/C 55%, well curing concrete.

Heating cables, widely used in office buildings, factories, streets and railways, deteriorate in electrical insulation during operation. The insulation deterioration of heating cables leads to electric discharges that can cause electrical fires. With this background, this paper dealt with a condition monitoring technique for heating cables by the analysis of discharge signals to prevent electrical fires. Insulation deterioration was simulated using an arc generator specified in UL1699 under AC operation, and the characteristic and propagation of discharge signals were analyzed on a 100 meter-long heating cable. Discharge signals produced by insulation deterioration were detected as a voltage pulse because they are as small as a few mV and they are attenuated through propagation path. The frequency spectrum of discharge signals mainly existed in the range from 70 kHz to 110 kHz, and the maximum attenuation of the signal was 84.8% at 100 meters away from the discharge point. Based on the experimental results, a monitoring device, which is composed of a high pass filter with the cut-off frequency of 70 kHz, a comparator, a wave shaper and a microprocessor, was designed and fabricated. Also, an algorithm was designed to discriminate the discharge signal in the presence of noise, compared with the pulse repetition period and the number of pulse counts per 100ms. In the experiment, the result showed that the prototype monitoring device could detect and discriminate the discharge signals produced at every discharge point on a heating cable.

Nowadays new water supply projects have been on the decline as the water-power constructions have saturated, which means that the existing power equipment have slowly aged and they require more efforts to maintain the system performance. An effective asset management method of power equipment has become a great necessity from both economical and technical aspects. To be balanced, the asset management should look into all three parts: management, engineering, and information. The purpose of this paper is to study a Risk-Based Maintenance (RBM) matrix method through the deterioration evaluation algorithm for an efficient reliability assessment of oil-immersed power transformers by considering both asset management and technical evaluation. Make use of this result, the equipment will be decided to be replace or repair otherwise on service.

Recently, the deterioration of concrete structures have been increased by the damage from salt, carbonization, freezing & thawing and the others. Reinforcement corrosion is the principal cause of deterioration of reinforced concrete. Unfortunately, full bond is assumed in all existing shear models, a condition which is often not fulfilled when assessing damaged structures. It is therefore very important to increase the understanding of how reduced bond influences the load carying capacity particularly for shear. Therefore in this study an equation is proposed to evaluate the residual shear strength considered deterioration.

The corrosion of steel reinforcing bar has been the major cause of the reinforced concrete deterioration. GFRP(Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polymer) reinforcing bar has emerged as one of the most promising and affordable solutions to the corrosion problems of steel reinforcement in structural concrete. However, GFRP rebar is prone to deteriorate due to other degradation mechanisms than those for steel. The high alkalinity of concrete, for instance, is a possible degradation source. This paper presents the long-term deterioration of the GFRP rebar under alkali environmental condition.
