  • Image processing for object detection and identification has been studied for supply chain management application with various approaches. Among them, feature pointed detection algorithm is used to track an object or to recognize a position in automated supply chain systems and a depth image based feature point detection is recently highlighted in the application. The result of feature point detection is easily influenced by image noise. Also, the depth image has noise itself and it also affects to the accuracy of the detection results. In order to solve these problems, we propose a novel hybrid filtering mechanism for depth image based feature point detection, it shows better performance compared with conventional hybrid filtering mechanism.

  • Lane marking detection based on a mono camera sensor provides a low cost solution to both ITS (intelligent transportation systems) and DAS (driver assistant systems). A number of methods and implementations have been reported in the literature. However, reliable detection is still an issue. Traditional approaches are mostly based on statistics or Hough transforms. However, the former approaches usually include many irrelevant detection areas, and the latter are not practical because actual lanes are not usually suitable for the approximation with linear or polynomial equations. In this paper, we focus on increasing the reliability of detection by reducing the detection of irrelevant areas while improving the detection of actual lane marking areas, which is usually a tradeoff for most conventional approaches. We use scale-space for that. Through experiments with real images obtained from various environments, we could achieve a significant improvement over traditional approaches.

  • We propose a new contact detection algorithm for fine pitch wire bonding. Fast and stable contact detection of the z-axis in wire bonding is extremely important to maintain the quality of fine pitch gold wire bonding processes, which use a small pad less than $70{\mu}m$ in diameter. A small perturbation in the contact detection time causes a large difference in the size of the formed squashed ball. The new detection method is based on a statistical approach and designed for a discrete Kalman filter. It is faster and has smaller detection time variations than conventional detection methods. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed algorithm.

  • Acoustic telemetry is a useful method to investigate fish behavior and is widely used to obtain biological information. In this study, the detection ability of a mooring-type acoustic telemetry system and the seasonal changes were studied for survey design and data analysis. The system detection range was examined with an underwater noise model, and seasonal changes were estimated with a ray-tracing program and underwater temperature profile data. The field experiment was conducted with two sets of pingers and six receivers to estimate the difference in detection rate by installation depth and to compare the model estimate. Results indicated that the long-range detection ability of the acoustic telemetry system was significantly affected by underwater temperature. The detection rate rapidly decreased near the sea surface or bottom despite that the near-range Signal to noise ratio was sufficient.

  • Change detection is one of the common research topics in remote sensing. In general, global change detection methods using image difference method, etc, are used in low resolution images and local change detection methods using floating windows, etc, are used in high resolution images. But, these methods have disadvantages in practical use. If changed area images are automatically produced, these images will be used in public area such as regional planning, regional development managements. In this research, we developed new change detection method applicable KOMPSAT EOC images. This method automatically produces subset images in changed area.

  • An infrared temperature sensor module developed for the detection of defects in a plate was modified to use in a cylinder. A set of optical fiber leads and a mechanism maintaining sensor-object distance constant were utilized for the modification of the IR sensor module. The detection performance was experimentally investigated, and the measured temperature was also compared with computed temperature distribution. The experimental outcome indicates that the detection of a simulated defect is readily available. The temperature distribution is better for defect detection than that with the previous device. In addition, the measured distribution is comparable to the calculated one using a heat conduction equation. The developed device of defect detection is suitable to be utilized in chemical processes where most of vessels and piping systems are in the shape of a cylinder.

  • This paper describes an implementation of face detection technology for a real-time application on the Android platform. Java class of Face-Detection for detection of human face is provided by the Android API. However, this function is not suitable to apply for the real-time applications due to inadequate detection speed and accuracy. In this paper, the AdaBoost based classification method which utilizes Local Binary Pattern (LBP) histogram is employed for face detection. The face detection module has been developed by C/C++ language for high-speed image processing, and this module is included to the Android platform using the Java Native Interface (JNI). The experiments were carried out in the Java-based environment and JNI-based environment. The experimental results have shown that the performance of JNI-based is faster than Java-based method and our system is well enough to apply for real-time applications.

  • In this paper, an efficient method of analysis and design of fault detection filter is presented. Since the directional constraint is applied to the eigenstructure associated with the detection space, an eigenvector is determined by the eigenvalues associated with other eigenvectors. Further, the assignment of a pair of eigenvalue and eigenvector leads to the fixation of overall eigenstructure related with the detection space. Using the transmission zeros and the transmission zero vectors, these phenomenon are clearly proven, and an efficient algorithm for design of the fault detection filters is presented.

  • Significant attention has recently been drawn to digital home photo albums that use face detection technology. The tendency can be found in home photo albums that people prefer to allocate concerned objects in the center of the image rather than the boundary when they take a picture. To improve detection performance and speed that are important factors of face detection task, this paper proposes a face detection method that takes spatial context information into consideration. Experiments were performed to verify the usefulness of the proposed method and results indicate that the proposed face detection method can efficiently reduce the false positive rate as well as the runtime of face detection.

  • In-situ particle monitors(ISPMs) are widely used for monitoring contaminant particles in vacuum-based semiconductor manufacturing equipment. In the present research, the performance of a Particle Measuring Systems(PMS) Vaculaz-2 ISPM at subatmospheric pressures has been studied. We created uniform upstream conditions of particle concentration and measured the detection efficiency, the lower detection limit, and the size response of the ISPM using uniform sized methylene blue aerosol particles. The effect of particle size, particle velocity, particle concentration, and system pressure on the detection efficiency was examined. Results show that the detection efficiency of the ISPM decreases with decreasing chamber pressure, and with increasing mass flow rate. The lower detection limit of the ISPM, determined at 50 % of the measured maximum detection efficiency, was found to be about $0.15{\sim}0.2{\mu}m$, which is similar to the minimum detectable size of $0.17{\mu}$ given by the manufacturer.
