  • In this study, we use various change-point detection methods to detects Korea economic crisis of 1997, and then compares their performance. In change-point detection method, there are three major categories: (1) the parametric approach, (2) the nonparametric approach, and (3) the model-based approach. Through the application to Korea foreign exchange rate during her economic crisis, we compare the employed change-point detection methods and, furthermore, determine which of them performs better.

  • Outlier detection methods help one to identify unusual instances in data that may correspond to erroneous, exceptional, or surprising events or behaviors. This work studies conditional outlier detection, a special instance of the outlier detection problem, in the context of incorrect data label identification. Unlike conventional (unconditional) outlier detection methods that seek abnormalities across all data attributes, conditional outlier detection assumes data are given in pairs of input (condition) and output (response or label). Accordingly, the goal of conditional outlier detection is to identify incorrect or unusual output assignments considering their input as condition. As a solution to conditional outlier detection, this paper proposes the ratio-based outlier scoring (ROS) approach and its variant. The propose solutions work by adopting conventional outlier scores and are able to apply them to identify conditional outliers in data. Experiments on synthetic and real-world image datasets are conducted to demonstrate the benefits and advantages of the proposed approaches.

  • Shot change detection is an important technique for effective management of video data, so detection scheme requires adaptive detection techniques to be used actually in various video. In this paper, we propose an adaptive shot change detection algorithm using the mean of feature value on variable reference blocks. Our algorithm determines shot change detection by defining adaptive threshold values with the feature value extracted from video frames and comparing the feature value and the threshold value. We obtained better detection ratio than the conventional methods maximally by 15% in the experiment with the same test sequence. We also had good detection ratio for other several methods of feature extraction and could see real-time operation of shot change detection in the hardware platform with low performance was possible by implementing it in TVUS model of HOMECAST Company. Thus, our algorithm in the paper can be useful in PMP or other portable players.

  • Change detection is widely used taxation, military fields, etc. In general, global change detection methods using image difference method, etc, are used in low resolution images and local change detection methods using floating windows, etc, are used in high resolution images. But, these methods have disadvantages in practical use and automatic method for changed area detection should be developed. In this research, characteristics of Kompsat images are reviewed in perspective of change detection and various change detection method applicable to are tested.

  • Microbial pathogens are responsible for most of the rapidly-spreading deadly infectious diseases against humans. Thus, there is an urgent need for efficient and rapid detection methods for infectious microorganisms. The detection methods should not only be targeted and specific, but they have to be encompassing of potential changes of the pathogen as it evolves and mutates quickly during an epidemic or pandemic. The existing diagnostics such as the antibody-based ELISA immunoassay and PCR methods are too selective and narrowly focused; they are insufficient to capture newly evolved mutant strains of the pathogen. Here, we introduce a fresh perspective on some new technologies, including aptamers and next generation sequencing for pathogen detection. These technologies are not in their infancy; they are reasonably mature and ready, and they hold great promise for unparalleled applications in pathogen detection.

  • Edge detection considers the important technical details of digital image processing. Many edge detection operators already perform edge detection in digital color imaging. In this study, the edge of many real color images that represent the type of digital image was detected using a new operator in the least square approximation method, which is a type of numerical method. The Linear Fitting algorithm is computationally more expensive compared to the Canny, LoG, Sobel, Prewitt, HIS, Fuzzy, Parametric, Synthetic and Vector methods, and Robert' operators. The results showed that the new method can detect an edge in a digital color image with high efficiency compared to standard methods used for edge detection. In addition, the suggested operator is very useful for detecting the edge in a digital color image.

  • An image edge has been utilized as preprocessing procedure in various field such as object detection, object recognition. there are Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts, Laplacian as conventional edge detection methods. existing methods are implement is simple, but edge detection characteristics is insufficient in impulse noise area. Therefore, to compensate the defect of conventional methods, in this paper, an edge detection algorithm using modified mask is proposed.

  • In the modern society, image processing is utilized in various fields. Edge detection used for image processing as such is essential for most of the applications. Accordingly, there are studies conducted both in and out of Korea in order to detect edge. Representative edge detection methods include Sobel, Prewitt and Roberts. However, these methods are rather limited when it comes to the edge detection characteristics when used for the image with damaged AWGN(additive white Gaussian noise). Thus, this paper presented edge detection method utilizing local mask in order to overcome the shortcomings of the existing methods.

  • Significant attention has recently been drawn to human robot interaction system that uses face detection technology. The most conventional face detection methods have applied under pixel domain. These pixel based face detection methods require high computational power. Hence, the conventional methods do not satisfy the robot environment that requires robot to operate in a limited computing process and saving space. Also, compensating the variation of illumination is important and necessary for reliable face detection. In this paper, we propose the illumination invariant face detection that is performed under the compressed domain. The proposed method uses color balancing module to compensate illumination variation. Experiments show that the proposed face detection method can effectively increase the face detection rate under existing illumination.
