  • The head-on collision of two solitary waves are examined using a boundary element method. Attachment, detachment times and alplitudes and maximum run-up times and amplitudes are computed. Consolidation times show local minimum value if two waves are of equal amplitudes are colliding. Attachment times show local maximum value if the amplitudes of two waves are the same. The detachment time show local maximum if two wves are the same. The detachment amplitude show local minimum values if the amplitude e(=a/h) is greater than 0.3.

  • A Recently elevator accidents were occurred and increased due to carelessness of user and violent behavior. The accident of door detachment in elevator platform by electronic motor scooter show a example of safety concerns and insensibility for safety awareness. In this report, we review the cause of accident of door detachment in elevator platform by electronic motor scooter, and show some suggestions of preventing from the safety concerns about this case.

  • Pulmonary bullae usually grow slowly and have thin walls. However, we have observed 2 cases of abrupt bulla formation immediately after lobectomy and during surgery. The pathologic findings of what can be called visceral pleural detachment are quite distinctive: these bullae had a broad base connected to the lung, and their walls were thick, including the full extent of visceral pleural and peripheral alveolar tissues, which suggests that the visceral pleura were detached from the distal alveoli. High transpleural pressure might be the key factor in the pathogenesis of this type of bulla, unlike previously known types of bullous lung disease.

  • This paper reports on the measurement of the vane motion in a positive displacement small vane pump. The capacitive method using ceramic vane is proposed to measure the vane motion. This method enables us to measure only radial motion of the vane regardless of the motions of other directions. With simple experiments and solutions of simultaneous equations, the indirect compensation of measured signal was performed.

  • Pregnancy-related ocular diseases develop mostly in the third trimester of pregnancy. Here, we describe a case of a pregnant woman with a choroidal mass that caused a serous retinal detachment during the first trimester of pregnancy. The patient's condition resolved spontaneously after an abortion.

  • Objective: We evaluated the detachment force, amount of deformation, fracture mode, and pull-out force of 3 different wires used for bonded lingual retainer fabrication. Methods: We tested 0.0215-inch five-stranded wire (PentaOne, Masel; group I), $0.016{\times}0.022$-inch dead-soft eight-braided wire (Bond-A-Braid, Reliance; group II), and 0.0195-inch dead-soft coaxial wire (Respond, Ormco; group III). To test detachment force, deformation, and fracture mode, we embedded 94 lower incisor teeth in acrylic blocks in pairs. Retainer wires were bonded to the teeth and vertically directed force was applied to the wire. To test pull-out force, wires were embedded in composite that was placed in a hole at the center of an acrylic block. Tensile force was applied along the long axis of the wire. Results: Detachment force and mode of fracture were not different between groups. Deformation was significantly higher in groups II and III than in group I (p < 0.001). Mean pull-out force was significantly higher for group I compared to groups II and III (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Detachment force and fracture mode were similar for all wires, but greater deformations were seen in dead-soft wires. Wire pull-out force was significantly higher for five-stranded coaxial wire than for the other wires tested. Five-stranded coaxial wires are suggested for use in bonded lingual retainers.

  • Objective: The aims of this study were to evaluate the relationship between the detachment force and bonding resin surface are and to determine the resin bonding surface area that would provide adequate bonding strength with minimum resin volume. Methods: One hundred and sixty human premolars were randomly divided into 4 groups of 40 teeth each. The diameter of the resin surface area in each group was as follows: group 1, 1.5 mm; group 2, 2.5 mm; group 3, 3.5 mm; and group 4, 4.5 mm. Respond Dead Soft straight (length 0.0175 inch) was used to fabricate the retainers, and $Transbond^{TM}$ XT was used to fix the retainers to the tooth surfaces. A pair of teeth was embedded in acrylic blocks for each specimen. Thus, each group comprised 20 samples. Fixed retainers were bonded to the teeth, and vertical force was applied at the middle of wire. The force was measured using a universal testing machine. Results: The mean value of detachment force was the highest for group 4 ($102.38{\pm}2.92N$), followed by group 3 ($63.54{\pm}2.21N$), group 2 ($51.95{\pm}1.61N$), and group 1 ($24.14{\pm}1.38N$). Conclusions: The detachment force of lingual fixed retainers was significantly affected as the area of the resin bonding surface increased. Considering the minimum bonding strength of brackets, a resin bonding surface area with a diameter of 3.5 mm would provide adequate bonding strength.

  • Rapid increase of integrity for recent semiconductor industry highly demands the development of removal technology of contaminated particles in the scale of a few microns or even smaller. It is known that the surface cleaning technology using $CO_2$ snow has its own merits of high efficiency. However, the detailed removal mechanism of particles using this technology is not yet fully understood due to the lack of sophisticated research endeavors. The detachment mechanism of particles from the substrates is known to be belonged in four types; rebounding, sliding, rolling and lifting. In this study, a modeling effort is performed to explain the detachment mechanism of a contaminant particle due to the rebounding caused by the vertical collision of the $CO_2$ snow. The Hertz and Johnson-Kendall-Roberts(JKR) theories are employed to describe the contact, adhesion and deformation mechanisms of the particles on a substrate. Numerical simulations are followed for several representative cases, which provide the perspective views on the dynamic characteristics of the particles as functions of the material properties and the initial inter-particle collision velocity.

  • Despite leisure has been well-studied as an influence in coping with stress, psychological process of leisure experience have not examined. This study examined the effect of leisure experience on emotional exhaustion. Also, we attempted to find out whether psychological detachment from work has mediating effects on the relationship between leisure experience and emotional exhaustion. Data were collected from 215 workers employed in a variety of organizations. We divided leisure experience into perceived competence, social relation, nature relation, and control nature based on factor analysis. Results indicate that only perceived competence was negatively associated with emotional exhaustion. Further, psychological detachment partially mediated this relation. This result presented that perceived competence is most important factor in leisure experience for psychological recovery.

  • Particle contamination on the data storage disks has been a serious problem for magnetic hard disk drive manufacturers. For high storage optical disks, such as DVD-ROM/RAM or NFR (near field recording) system, particle-induced damages can be also detected because only a few micrometer particles can prevent read/write signal from optical lens. The increasing areal density and smaller bit size accelerates particle induced damages on the optical disk. One of the methods to prevent particle contamination on the optical disk surface is to handle the disk enclosed in a cartridge like a modern DVD-RAM disk. However, even for a perfectly sealed disk drive, particles are found inside the drive. The other method is to improve disk surface characteristics. Particle contamination on the surface can be reduced by proper selection of disk coating materials. [n this paper, particle detachment ratios for CD (compact disk), DVD (digital versatile disk), HD (magnetic hard disk), HD with Jut lubricant, and aluminosilicate substrate HD were investigated. Surface roughness and surface energy of the test disks were compared with the particle detachment ratios. Proper substrate and lubricant characteristics to reduce particle contamination on the disk surface were found.
