In this study, the characteristics of the experimentally produced high N-high Cr bearing stainless steels are discussed as a part of applications of materials for FGD (Fuel Gas Desulfurization) system of thermal power plants or for power plants using seawater as coolant. Corrosion resistance of developed alloys is especially investigated in detail. Corrosion characteristics of vacuum melted cast are shown to be superior to that of air melted one. From the viewpoint of CPT, It is estimated that the differences of corrosion resistance are $21.8^{\circ}C{\sim}24.6^{\circ}C$ at PRE 40 and $8^{\circ}C{\sim}12.4^{\circ}C$ at PRE 50, and the gaps becomes bigger as the PRE values are lower. In the evaluation of corrosion resistance in alloy A2501, Z3101, and A3301 according to Cr concentration, alloy A3301 shows a deviation from the general tendency in chloride solutions. It has relatively high PRE value as 48.6, but it has relatively poor pitting resistance. It is, however, difficult to observe a specific phase except ferrite in microstructure analysis and neither detects special phase such as sigma phase.
A Study on the recovery of the valuable metals(Vanadium Molybdenium) was carried out using spent catalysts originated from desulfurizing process of oil refinery. Experiments consisted of pre-roasting for Sulfur and Carbon removal, soda roasting and leaching for the extraction of valuable metals, and selective precipitation of Vanadium and Molybdenium. Effects of temperature and time in roasting for Sulfur removal, of $Na_2CO_3$ concentrations in soda roasting, and of pulp density, temperature and time in leaching were investigated for the recovery of Vanadium and Molybdenium. A optimum condition having over 85% in yield of Vanadium and Molybdenium was found. In the selective precipitation, more than 98% of Vanadium and Molybdenium were obtained by the variation of pH and concentration of additives.
The reduction of sulfur content in the diesel fuel has caused the poor lubricity of diesel fuel in the distributor type injection pumps of diesel engines that use the diesel for lubrication of their moving parts. To investigate the reason for poor lubricity of low sulfur diesel fuels, the wear scar diameters by HFRR (High Frequency Reciprocating Rig) were measured on the diesel fuels from Korean markets and the results were compared with their physical and chemical properties. Also, the lubricity change and the improvement effects on lubricity additives for the ultra low sulfur diesel fuel, were made experimentally, that will be regulated to a maximum of 0.005 wt% from about 2005 were evaluated. As a result, a good correlation was found between the wear scar diameter and the polyaromatic compound which includes heterocyclic compound in the diesel fuel. It was also found that the content of polyaromatic compound including heterocyclic compound was affected by the amount of desulfurization treatment fraction. And the lubricity additives with ester base were more effective than that with acid base on the ultra low sulfur diesel fuel. Therefore, it is suggested that the factors affecting the lubricity stated above should be taken into account to improve the lubricity property of the diesel fuel in the refining process.
The alloying effect of a small amount of nickel on low alloy steel for application to flue gas desulfurization(FGD) systems was studied. The structural characteristics of the rust layer were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The electrochemical properties were examined by means of potentiostatic polarization test, potentiodynamic polarization test, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) in a modified green death solution of 16.9 vol.% $H_2SO_4$+0.35 vol.% HCl at $60^{\circ}C$ and an acid rain solution of $6.25{\times}10^{-5}M\;H_2SO_4+5.5{\times}10^{-3}M\;NaCl$ at room temperature. It was found that as the amount of nickel increased, the corrosion rate increased in the modified green death solution, which seemed to result from micro-galvanic corrosion between NiS and alloy matrix. In acid rain solution, the corrosion rate decreased as the amount of nickel increased due to the repulsive force of $NiFe_2O_4$ rust against $Cl^-$ ions by electronegativity.

In the global trend of countries around the world announcing the declaration of carbon neutrality, the development of low-carbon cement in the cement industry can be seen as a very important issue that can determine the future development of the cement industry in the future. Therefore, this study evaluated the strength characteristics of limestone cement paste with limestone powder of CaCO3 and refinery desulfurization waste catalyst of high Al2O3 content, and using a Minitab mixture design to optimize a limestone cement content. As a resuls it was confirmed that limestone cement paste with 5-10% of limestone powder and 1.25-2.5% of the waste catalyst exhibits similar compressive strength to that of OPC.
Fossil fired power plant produces the electric energy by using a thermal energy by the combustion of fossil fuels as like oil, gas and coal. The exhausted flue gas by the combustion of oil etc. contains usually many contaminated species, and especially sulfur-content has been controlled strictly and then FGD (Flue Gas Desulfurization) facility should be installed in every fossil fired power plant. To minimize the content of contaminations in final exhaust gas, high corrosive environment including sulfuric acid (it was formed during the process which $SO_2$ gas combined with $Mg(OH)_2$ solution) can be formed in cooling zone of FGD facility and severe corrosion damage is reported in this zone. These conditions are formed when duct materials are immersed in fluid that flows on the duct floors or when exhausted gas is condensed into thin layered medium and contacts with materials of the duct walls and roofs. These environments make troublesome corrosion and air pollution problems that are occurred from the leakage of those ducts. The frequent shut down and repairing works of the FGD systems also demand costs and low efficiencies of those facilities. In general, high corrosion resistant materials have been used to solve this problem. However, corrosion problems have severely occurred in a cooling zone even though high corrosion resistant materials were used. In this work, a new technology has been proposed to solve the corrosion problem in the cooling zone of FGD facility. This electrochemical protection system contains cathodic protection method and protection by coating film, and remote monitoring-control system.
In hydrogen production for fuel cell by reforming city-gas, sulfur compounds, odorant in city-gas, are detrimental to reforming catalyst and fuel cell electrodes. We prepared metal salt impregnated ${\beta}-zeolite(BEA)$ to remove sulfur compound in city-gas by adsorption. The sulfur breakthrough adsorption capacity was changed depending on the concentration and species of metal salt. $AgNO_3$ impregnated BEA showed the highest sulfur breakthrough capacity among adsorbents used in this experiment(41.1 mg/g). But metal salt impregnated BEA such as $Ni(NO_3)_2/BEA$, $Fe(NO_3_)_3/BEA$, $Co(NO_3)_2/BEA$ showed a certain amount of sulfur adsorption capacity comparable to $AgNO_3/BEA$. Adsorption temperature effect, desorption study, and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis revealed that the dominant interaction between metal impregnated adsorbent and sulfur compounds was not chemisorption but physisorption.

It is necessary to find out the reaction characteristics of $CaCO_3$ sorbent particles in air and $O_2/CO_2$ atmospheric conditions in order that an in-furnace desulfurization technique can be applied to oxy-fuel combustion system. In this study, rate of change of GMD(geometric mean diameter) and specific surface area of $CaCO_3$ sorbent particles reacted in DTF(drop tube furnace) experimental setup were analyzed to investigate the effect of particle size and humidity on the reaction characteristics of them. In air atmospheric condition, calcination process occurs actively within shorter residence times as the particle size increases. On the contrary, in $O_2/CO_2$ atmospheric condition, a calcination process is delayed as particle size increases. The increment of humidity accelerates calcination process in an air atmospheric condition and increase rate of calcination in an $O_2/CO_2$ atmospheric condition.

This study is to develop a high quality lightweight foamed concrete that can be applied in the field using EXFG by cracking reducing agent combined with FGD and ALS. First, to increase the volume of foam, the flow and density of the mixture was increased and decreased, respectively. At this time, the effect of substitution ratio of EXFG on fluidity was negligible. The fraction of foam was the highest at EXFG 1%, and the settlement was found to be prevented by the expansion reaction at EXFG 1%. At this time, the ratio of foam was 65%. In the compressive strength, the strengths were similar or decreased when the substitution ratio of EXFG was more than 1%. The apparent density satisfied the KS 0.5 type at the bubble contents was 65%. In case of EXFG substitution, dry shrinkage was decreased by about 10%. As the substitution ratio of EXFG increased, the thermal conductivity increased proportionally.
In this study, dimethyl silicone oil and liquid paraffin were combined and subsequently emulsified; the resulting mixture was innovatively incorporated into desulfurized gypsum to resolve its drawback of a poor water resistance. The waterproof mechanism of the composite emulsion and liquid paraffin emulsion with mass fractions of 1%, 2%, 3%, and 4% were investigated. The effect of the desulfurized gypsum on the waterproof performance and basic mechanical properties were also investigated. The configuration of the composite waterproofing agent was characterized by FTIR and 1HNMR. The results showed that, compared with the traditional liquid paraffin emulsion-based waterproofing agent, the softening coefficient of the silicone oil paraffin composite emulsion-based water-repellent agent was increased by 60% and attained a value of 0.89. Combined with the waterproof mechanism and microscope morphology analysis of gypsum hydration products, the improvement in the water resistance of water resistance was primarily attributed to the formation of a silicone hydrophobic membrane between the crystals of the gypsum block; this ensured that water could not penetrate the crystal.
